I had been meaning to check out Zinnia as soon as it opened, and it was so good! I went for brunch. I made the reservation (a must) a little late and the only available seats were in the cellar, which is cozy but a little dark. My friend and I ordered 2 pastries to share - the cheddar and currant scones. I preferred the cheddar, but both were delicious. We also shared the French toast which was incredible. It had stewed apples but comes with different fruits based on the season. We shared the brunch hash too, which was great, and we customized it to have it without any meat. I also asked for hot sauce and it was promptly brought over. Service was great throughout. If you are going and are not familiar with the area, there is ample parking in the lot across the street that's reserved for the restaurant!

This was first time visiting Zinnia since the restaurant changed over from Mrs. K's. Greeted by hostess upon entry. The space flows the same however there is the addition of a full bar upstairs. I had the seafood chowder and a petite steak with sides. The chowder was fantastic. The scallops amd seafood ingredients were fresh. The serving size for bowl was a good portion. The petite steak was a decent size. Good flavor especially with chimichuri sauce topping. However it need just a touch of salt. Overall meal and bar experience was great. I finished off the meal with a cappuccino. Good flavor with leaf float design on top. Look forward to my next visit.

Had the most beautiful Valentine's Day experience at Zinnia in Silver Spring, Maryland. We opted for the Valentine's Day menu, and I absolutely loved it. It was a thoughtfully curated, multi-course menu that felt well-paced and perfectly tailored for the occasion. The small details really stood out candlelight at the table, a rose-shaped napkin, and even a rose to take home. Those touches made the evening feel intimate and memorable. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic without feeling overdone. Customer service was excellent from start to finish attentive, warm, and professional. As for the food, everything was delicious. The seafood entrée was very good, flavorful and well-prepared but my absolute favorite were the desserts, the crepe cake was to die for!! It was the perfect sweet ending to the night. The drinks were also really enjoyable, though I will say they were a little on the expensive side for the portion size. Overall, such a lovely experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a cozy night out, Zinnia is definitely worth visiting.

Absolutely beautiful scenery. Kids could run around and expend energy outside. Service was wonderful and very friendly. The food was delicious. It's simple but we loved the bread basket and the fruit compote that came with it.

My family came here for my dad's birthday and it was so lovely. The staff were knowledgeable and accommodating to substitutions and all our food turned out delicious. I got the pan seared salmon which was perfect, but the real surprise was the pear sorbet. It was so refreshing! We sat upstairs which has such a cozy cottage vibe, but downstairs is almost like an old time English ale house. So cool! The only issue I had that evening is there were a couple issues with our drinks. Mine came out later than the other 2 and it was wrong (I ordered a Negroni Sbagliato and it was a regular Negroni).

Came here for my sister-in-law's birthday brunch and had a really nice experience. We sat in the downstairs tavern, which was cute and cozy--perfect for a cold day. I'd love to come back when it's warmer to try one of the other seating areas. Our waiter was really nice. I got the shrimp and grits, which were very good, and shared the apple French toast with my sister-in-law--we both loved it. Another friend had an eggs Benedict with pulled meat and enjoyed it. The only miss for us was the Caesar side salad, which wasn't very flavorful. Overall, great ambiance and solid food. I'd definitely come back, especially to try dinner.

I am in the bar downstairs. The real treat here is the resident pianist, Porkchop! He is an amazing entertainer. Impressive improvisation that weaves in and out of well known melodies from Take Five to Play that Funky Music to Für Elise. Tonight he has Laura Baron, award winning songstress, as his guest. She carried us away from her first number, the classic, Skylark. Then we heard some of her original tunes including Enchanté. A delight! Together they closed the evening with a beautiful rendition of Auld Lang Syne. The evening was wonderful! Every Thursday evening Porkchop is here. Food is excellent, Service is great, Ambience is unbeatable! Our 3-person party had: A. Gold & Rose beet salad with steak B. Mediterranean Bowl C. Crab cake sandwich See pictures I had the beet salad and I thought it was outstanding. The roasted pistachios and arugula balance the gold and red beets beautifully. The steak was medium rare done right. Tasted the crab cakes. Honestly it's hard to get crab cakes wrong in Maryland. Nicely seasoned. The Mediterranean bowl looked beautiful but I did not partake. For dessert we had the Carrot Parsnip Cake, thick with cream cheese icing but somehow not heavy... the chef's magic! Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He met all of our needs and smiled while he did it. He did not get in the way and managed the room well.

I came here for my birthday brunch with the girlies and had a cute time!! I have been wanting to try it out since coming across a TikTok review, and was super excited. Now this area was packed and busy, there was a mini farmers market happening behind Zinnia's, and also Christmas tree pickup, so parking was a little stressful. I luckily found parking in the lot across the street when someone was leaving, however, give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes to find parking. My friends were almost late for our reservations because they had to park a few blocks away. There are two floors, and we sat downstairs, and it was so cute and cozy. Our waiter Kevin was THE BEST!! He was so warm, and we felt so welcomed by him (please give him a raise). I ordered a chai latte, quiche with a side of old bay fries, and the challah French toast for my friends and I to share. I am a sucker for fries and was excited to pair them with my food. I personally enjoyed my food a lot. My quiche needed a bit of salt love, but everything was super good. At the end, they gave us a postcard with our receipt, which I was super excited for. I LOVE that they played live music. It truly adds to the atmosphere. It did get really loud, and they were receptive to toning it down. The hostesses who checked us in were cold and standoffish. It could have been because the place was really busy, chaotic, and overstimulating, but I don't know. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior, and the pictures don't do it this place justice, ESPECIALLY for the downstairs. I would 100% come back. My mom would love this, so you will see me again with her.

Great day for a lunch to sit either inside or out. This place offers both. As it was a business lunch we needed a calmer, quieter area to work, so we chose inside. Really cool how they set this house up turning it into a fine dining establishment. Apparently this was a different establishment before and equally popular. Multiple rooms inside or out to choose to sit. Not crazy pricing by any means, the meal I got, which was soup and salad was filling enough for lunch. You don't get that bloated feeling. They had a couple of soup specials. I went with a chicken lentil. Not so much a lot of soup, but what was there offered a sensible amount of chicken and a lot of flavor. My lunch salad was called a " baby gold, and ruby beat". it's an arugula salad with lemon ricotta shallots, pistachios, and a great tasting dressing of honey vinaigrette. I'm not a huge fan of lemon or lime flavor in my food so it was a bit concerned. This might be lemonade tasting, but as it turned out, it was not. Would be very curious to check this place out at dinner. I suspect it would be equally satisfying. Regarding our server, he was great. He kept water at the table and consistently checked in on us.

This venue offers morecsrsting than you'd expect looking at a converted home. There's ample seating in the gardens behind the property, which makes it perfect spring through fall. There's general restaurant style seating indoors and a sports bar on the lower level. The menu is simple with pretty good quality. I haven't discovered any go to dishes. The burger is a good portion, juicy and served on delicious buttery brioche bun. The fries are below average. The seafood and grits delivered on the described flavor pofile. They offer seasonal alcoholic slushies. The servers were prompt, accommodating and pleasant.

    BBQ Gulf Shrimp & Grits

Came here to have brunch with some of my wife's relatives. One of our party had limited mobility, so it made sense to eat outside, but it was still a challenge. This restaurant is not ADA friendly. The weather was designed just for us. Unfortunately, there was a wedding event taking place later that day, so some of the seating options and servers seemed spoken for. We wish we had vetted that situation out ahead of time to make sure we didn't have obstacles. The garden seating was spectacular and even featured a bit of mother nature in action and in full bloom. I started off with the Corpse Reviver #2 which had just enough punch and sweetness. Lunch was the BBQ Gulf Shrimp & Grits. A few in my party wondered out loud if a restaurant in MD could possibly know how to do grits properly (they were from further south). I was pretty confident that they could pull it off, and I was correct. The grits were swimming in buttery goodness and the shrimp were sautéed to perfection. If I had to do it over again, I would probably ask for some hot sauce to drip all over to give it a little kick. It seems that the rest of the party (5 others) all ordered different things and each raved about their food as well. It was a perfect combination of good food, family, and sunshine. Once we got seated and comfortable.

*Adding review for afternoon tea!* I've been here for lunch, dinner, and brunch before and enjoyed each experience. Finally I can say afternoon tea service is just as delightful! Love the full range of menu options (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, pescatarian). The food was delicious and we left feeling stuffed despite the mini sizes. We enjoyed the darjeeling, royal wedding, and chocolate chai teas. Although Zinnia does not offer the large amount of teas that other downtown services offer, it's also half the cost of those! I would recommend for anyone in Silver Spring who enjoys high tea.

Chai Tea Latte (Iced) - June 2025

I joined a few friends for brunch one weekend. It was my first time here. As I entered, I noticed the host stand to the right and a stairway to the left (there is a basement level with its own bar). Beyond the host stand (on the right), I was led down a few stairs to my party who were already seated. The area we were in was just a few tables - I did notice a bar and saw views of the outside. The brunch menu is separated by breakfast, salad, and sandwiches on one side and on the other, pastries, sides, and drinks (cocktails, beer, wine, non-alcoholic, coffee & tea). For a drink, I ordered the Chai Tea Latte and was asked if I wanted it hot or iced. I got it with ice (needed on a hot day) in a tall glass. It was great. For food, I ordered the Breakfast Bowl, described as chorizo scramble, patatas bravas (menu showed "potatas"), sweet peppers, onions, cheddar, and smoked paprika aioli. It was listed under "Breakfast" on the Brunch menu. It was a nice sized portion along with a small amount of greens. I liked the fact that the meal was light, and I really enjoyed it. There were no leftovers once I was done. I was able to glance at the dessert menu but decided to hold off until another time. I did like the choices though: Carrot Parsnip Cake, Baba Au Rhum, Brown Sugar Crème Bruleé, Hazelnut Crunch Bar, Ice Cream and Sorbet. Great service from Alexandra. On our way out, we decided to take a mini tour of the other areas within the restaurant. Everywhere we turned there was a new room somewhere. Outdoors set up was nice - a mini bridge here or there with a little lake in view. All the tables looked like they had umbrellas, and I even saw a gazebo in the distance. Great visit overall. Parking The restaurant is located at the corner of Colesville Road (Rt. 29) and Dale, however, if you need to park, it is best to park in the bigger lot on Dale Drive (entrance is across the street from the restaurant). If you need to be closer, you can check the much smaller lot (entrance on Toll House Road), but it could be full - I think I counted about 13 spaces with a few extra on the side street.

My friend's Paloma cocktail. She loved it.

I saw on Instagram that they do afternoon tea on the weekend? Is there a menu for that?

It was awesome to see the diversity of the diaspora from the African continent (East and West Africa) the Caribbean/Latin America, and America all in one safe space enjoying themselves without the performative and obnoxiousness from others I would give them that. The Billy Holliday mural and the interior design has a nice sleek, New American vibe. My problem is the service, the cost, and the food although solid, I cooked a brunch the following day myself not to brag (scrambled eggs and cheese, friend potatoes with diced green peppers and onions) that was masterful in comparison to the gingerbread style big ole French toast and fancy "scrambled eggs and cheese" this spot has. The service charge was ridiculous as my mom's bill was 70 plus bucks for just the seafood shrimp and grits which was nice, a very sweet pre-diabetic lemonade, and bread pudding that was like bougie Georgetown prices with the dominant culture. I paid 40 dollars (Hairstylist from Baby Boy!) for French toast, scrambled eggs with cheese and lemonade. The food is nice and all but nothing to die for. We came for the vibe, culture, and atmosphere also, but we do prefer the chains of Dennys and I-hop if I am not doing the cooking which is most of the time. The server would dirty mack and take a while flirting with women at the bar and playing around with staff, and I had to give a clinical gaze with my glasses and hand signal for him to return. We did ask up front about service charge and gratuity included from the beginning but they have a very Southern slow pace here that I agree with others and I am a very patient man and notice that. It can take a while to get your checks, get change, just other tasks that you would think would be handled more efficiently. The place attracts the social media crowd, with professional pictures, the glitz, the glamor the Hollywood red carpet of the DMV, but the structural integrity of the pricing, service, and experience needs to step its game up in the worst way. We certainly see this place being a bit turned up and precarious in later hours. The closest parking that is reliable enough is the Safeway garage so it is not the most convenient, where as at least Matchbox has the Wayne and Colesville garages to park at and then enter. It was nice to support the Black owned establishment but it is a 1 and done spot. Majic 102.3 put in the hype a couple of years ago, but I found the truth, no thanks, it is a performative culture that still has that ole Georgia Ave. street culture.

Today we took a drive to Kaldi's to order some breakfast to-go. The restaurant was really packed but the ordering process was actually pretty smooth. We ordered their 12oz lattes, my drink was modified to add a splash of almond milk. The lattes sadly weren't anything special and could probably benefit from some cinnamon or a flavor of some sort to bring a little personality to the drink. To eat, we ordered their waffles (sorry for the to-go pictures) I ordered the sweet corn waffle and my boyfriend ordered the waffles with fresh berries. The waffles were PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!! Probably the best and most creative waffles I've had in a long time. The sweet corn waffles were magical. The addition of jalapeño peppers perfectly balanced off the sweet flavor seeping through the waffles. It was beautifully paired. The waffles were also very creamy and soft. Only downside is that I didn't care for the random garnish of corn of top but I get the presentation. This might have been better if it was seasoned or sautéed but the random corn didn't add or take away from the dish. My boyfriend lovedddddd his waffles and berries and said that it was the perfect breakfast selection. I'll definitely come back to order more waffles but also wished that they had a way of conducting pick up through their online portal. As mentioned, it was packed in there but there were some nice seating around the restaurant so I assume that you'll need to get there really early in order to dine in. Overall, I'll return and hopefully I can try another beverage.

My cousin and bestie were in town and wanted a true DC brunch/day party vibe, so we gave it a shot and overall, it was a good time. When we arrived, we ordered mimosa pitchers and were directed straight to the buffet. The food spread was huge: waffles, pancakes, French toast, made-to-order omelets, chicken sausage, pork sausage, bacon, fried chicken, jerk chicken, shrimp, grits, collard greens, mac & cheese, breakfast potatoes, salmon, fresh fruit, and more than I can even remember. The variety was definitely a highlight. I wish they had real food utensils instead of plastic. The mimosas, however, were very juice-heavy and pretty weak . We ended up switching to bottle service so we could enjoy real champagne, which was much better. The absolute best part of the experience was our server, Noah kind, attentive, friendly, and fine AF . She made sure our drinks stayed flowing and kept us informed about our table time so there were no surprises. Top-tier service. The space itself is large with two levels. We initially thought we'd be seated downstairs, but due to a private event, we were directed upstairs. He also had a difficult time figuring out how to split the 4-person tab into 2 couples. Hopefully he was new and this helped him learn. The music was very loud, more like closer to club level than restaurant level, which made it difficult for me to hear most of the time. I am not a true seafood lover as there are very few seafood items I eat but needless to say my husband couldn't say enough positive things about the catfish and grits and the other couple we were with absolutely loved that they got their calypso sauce on the side because then they got to enjoy the flavor and crispiness of the fish. The one crabcake on the Chesapeake Crabcake meal was very flavorful and I enjoyed it. Their food was very good. The prices weren't too bad but you also got a lot of food for the price. We had leftovers which was nice!

It was a Monday so it wasn't super packed but I'm sure other days it's not like that. Chris and Jazz provided great service at the bar on the first floor. I enjoyed the lemon drop martini and the caribbean rolls! I really hadn't been in this area in awhile because navigating the road closures and detours due to the purple line construction was hectic. Outside of that it was nice to come cab to familiar territory!

Visited last night to celebrate a few things…read more I have to start with the best part of our experience. Staff ( i wish I got their names at the front) were so pleasant! Alex, our server was AMAZING!!! please ask for him every time! We initially wanted to be at the bar but it was packed! We ended up in a private style booth in the back. The booth offers curtains and the ability to adjust your lighting and music.... lovely bonus. We ordered a lot: Shrimp Cocoktail -9 Crab balls - 9 (wish they were more or bigger...comes with 5) Steak Frites - 8 Chicken - 8 (didnt care the root vegetables but the flavor, overall, was great) Scallops - 7 (great flavor, some were under. The bed of spring vegetables could have been spinach instead...?) Complimentary birthday cake 10...amazing!! We also got a few drinks that I cant rate, but my friends said were great! Will absolutely be back again! ALEX is wonderful and the food is consistently amazing. Kudos to the Chefs !!!

The staff as always is great! They have an all night happy hour at the bar only and the drinks were as I remembered. During the happy hour I stick to the classic martini offerings. My go to is the lemon drop. Love it! Unfortunately the happy hour food offerings were not as I remembered. I appreciate the staff because anything we did not like they took back and removed it from the tab. I did enjoy the wings though. If you are looking for a place to meet a friend for a drink at happy hour I would say come but maybe not focus on the bar bites. Again this review is only for their happy hour. I went this time on a Tuesday and it was not as crowded that night but I know sometimes happy hour can be packed and it's only offered in the bar area.

He was super polite, clearly explained the menu and specials, and checked in on us while we dined. This is my favorite restaurant in Silver Spring. Keep up the great service, Copper Canyon!

The décor leans more classic and strait-laced, but in a warm, comfortable. Service is typically solid, and when they have a live jazz band performing? That's an added bonus that elevates the whole experience. And with their frequent diner program, you can rack up points on your visits and redeem them later for dollars off your bill, which makes an already good meal feel even better. My Go-To's: Spinach & Artichoke Dip One of the best around. It's always cooked just right, never underdone, never burnt. Great flavor and perfectly creamy. And yes, I'm the one mixing it up with salsa and sour cream for an extra flavor kick. Fiesta Eggrolls A flavorful favorite. Rotisserie Chicken Salad Think Tex-Mex salad loaded with all the good stuff. I love, mixing the BBQ sauce with the chipotle blue cheese dressing, it's the perfect sweet-smoky combo. It used to come with cornbread croutons (which were such a nice sweet touch), so now I just order a slice of their delicious cornbread on the side. Chicken Pot Pie Comfort food done right. Rattlesnake Pasta It almost gives Rasta Pasta vibes, but without the heat. Creamy, flavorful, and filling. Barbecue Ribs Tender, saucy, and satisfying. Key Lime Pie One of the best. And the fact that they sell it whole? Dangerous! Pineapple Upside Down Cake My new favorite. Nice and moist and comes à la mode. Don't just take my word for it. Check out "Copper Canyon Grill" and experience it for yourself! Mmmm... Bon Appetit! Cheers! Enjoy!

In March 2018, my girlfriend at the time wanted to go here as there was a group of people going for St. Patrick's Day. We went here along with her young pre-teen daughter. They almost weren't going to let us in, but my g/f assured we just needed to eat, and they said since it was before 9 PM, it'd be ok. I enjoyed my Shepherd's Pie, a solid option here. After eating, there was dancing on the dance floor and a couple of people I knew. Then, my g/f went out to the dance floor. I'm sitting at the table with my g/f's pre-teen daughter who fell asleep. It was awkward for me especially since someone asked me if she was ok, and I said she's just tired. We left sometime in the midnight hour. But the fact of the matter was that my g/f shouldn't have put her daughter in that situation. On a positive, her daughter graduated high school & is still alive today in 2025, so her mom did something right. The other time I was here was in February 2023. I decided to have my birthday party at Copper Canyon in downtown Silver Spring. Then, a few of us were willing to hang longer asking what I wanted to do. I said I remember McGinty's was a good Irish pub. So, I had a couple of more drinks here. Staff was nice and helpful getting me drinks. Overall, I like McGinty's as it's a cute Irish pub with live entertainment, dance floor, & good Shepherd's Pie.

The servers were friendly and prompt, and cheerfully gave us separate checks when it was time to pay. But, unless you like your beer warm, the drinks may disappoint you. My beet salad with goat cheese and grapefruit was beautifully described on the menu - enough to seduce me to order something that was not an Irish classic - but was not enjoyable enough to finish. The fries were good though, and the fried fish that others ordered looked to be perfectly done. So perhaps I'll come back when I'm in the mood for some classical fare. Too bad about the beer though.,,
