Coming from CA was looking for a place similar to Rasputins or Amoeba. This place is pretty close but a little more expensive but still great none the less. Great selection of records and movies, and local music. Hubby likes looking for old school music and real hip hop albums. He found this place a while back and we've been to the one in Tempe which is smaller so this one was great for him to look in! They have great DVD and Blu ray trade value and little knick knacks and snacks too. For trading in you need a AZ for this location but the one in Tempe a CA was ok, not sure why they have different rules here but good to know for next time! They take card, cash and trade in credit frm previous sales. The area is ok too and parking is plentiful. Huge selection! I hadn't been in a Zia's in around 8-10 years. The new CDs are about the price you would expect from most retail establishments, but you don't go to Zia's for Bieber's newest album. You go to Zia's for the used albums and the selection. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they carry lesser-heard acts, such and "Now, Now" and "Kitten". Have you even heard of them? Well check them out, they are both awesome! They also had a lot of other bands that I haven't even heard of. This location also has a good amount of vinyl, books, comics (probably better off going to a dedicated comic shop TBH), movies, video games, and TV shows. In other words, they've expanded to Bookman's range of products, with the focus still on the music, where it should be. The place is about what you would expect from a place that specializes in used goods, which is to say the place looks vaguely aged. They maintain five stars for me based on a selection I would only expect from online warehouse retailers. read more

I live about an hour away from this Zia Records store and I love that store. Everyone who leaves a bad review is just super critical and doesn't like anything or is super sensitive because they're employees are nice and helpful and a lot of their things are old so don't complain if it's not brand new when they older stuff. I've been going to this Zia for 15 years. Yes, I know. It used to be on 7th and Indian School. Growing up in a lower middle class family, Mom's suggestion to us if we wanted to get new music was to trade in old. And we did. I remember doing the math. If I traded in 4 CD's, I could afford to get 3 used CD's. Not a bad return. Since they moved, they got to expand a touch. They now have a METAL section, which is brutal. No more thumbing through Brittney Spears or Kenny Chesney when I'm looking for some heavy shit. Customer service is always top notch. The customer rewards card is cool. You accumulate points just for purchasing. A nice place to get CD's, DVD's, and even VHS. read more

Zia Record Exchange is an ideal place to locate those hard-to-find CDs you have had no luck finding in those other chain stores and don't want to pay way too much for online. I fucking love this place. Its helped me expand my DVD collection tremendously at a cheap price. ZIA is the best place to get the latest art, independent,foreign and new releases on DVD at a great price even if they are used, I have never had a single problem with ANY of the used DVD's I have purchased there. The CD collection is awesome and they usually have hard to find releases that places like Best Buy and Borders dont carry. Some other reviewer said he can get all these things for the same price on Ebay, but who wants to wait for their stuff to come in the mail and spend money on shipping and ending up with scratched material? Don't bother selling anything here. It's not worth it. I got paid $15 for 25 CDs some of the albums were double CDs, so actually more than 25. Not even a dollar each. I should have donated them to charity. The trade value was only $20. So I could have given them 25 in exchange for 3-4 of their's. I don't expect 1 for 1, but come on! Zia's heyday was 20-25 years ago. Now it's just a dump. Half the store is full of kitsch. And their vinyl selection sucks and totally overpriced. read more

I'm very disappointed in the treatment of us the customers. You abruptly stopped the survey cards. I contacted Zia via the website, IG & Twitter and never got a response as to why and if they would honor the existing survey cards out there. Now I see they've added a survey to bottom of the receipts and reduced the discount to 10%. It's tough enough trying to avoid getting jumped at this location. Now, cutting the survey discount stinks. My elderly parents went into zia to rid their 500+record collection. They left with 21$, less than 5cents a record! They should be ashamed of themselves. I wish I had gone with them before they made this decision. They had records from the 50s 60s 70s and 80s and all in decent condition. I am 100% sure that there were some great gems in there. I personally know they had great music. I know records are a thing of the past but all the records they sell are way overpriced for what they pay for them. They are crooks in my opinion. Not LGTBQ Friendly, not friendly to people of color. While this record shop was large and selection wasn't bad, their customer service is what left a lot to be desired. Having traveled from the Houston area, we were excited to shop for vinyl. Record shops should be filled with diverse people, in our opinion. While this shop had employees rocking different colored hair and elements of apparent diversity, we were not treated with respect or courtesy specifically by one of the male "managers" (wearing a blue knit head today). Our 8yo daughter severely needed to use a restroom, he refused to allow her to do so..."no public restrooms". Several minutes later a kind female employee saw her struggling (as we were waiting at the register) and offered to take her to a restroom (THANK YOU). The "manager" was the attendant at our register. He asked for ID since we were using a credit card...we thought, "ok, maybe that's standard"...but no other customers pulling out cards were asked to show ID. Then, as we walked out, the security alarm went off...this same "manager" came running. We asked, "did you forget to take something off of our records?" He took our bag and made us walk back through the sensors, obviously to ensure we had not attempted to steal anything. While I can imagine these security features are there for a reason, we were in this shop for about an hour and never saw anyone else treated this way. Was it coincidence??? We are a same-sex interracial couple with 2 small children in tow...so we are now left wondering how much "acceptance" is really happening at this location. We spent about $100 on 3 records in this store.... returning the records are now not an option as they only allow for store credit (no true refund). Shame on you, Zia records "manager"! read more

Has the best movies and easy to find movies that you like. They even have a lot of cool books and accessories.

So, I took a bunch of records to zia to sell. They offered me $10 for the whole stack, some were in perfect condition and I just took them back. I later took them to Stinkweeds and got $56 offered for the same stack. If you're looking to get a fair exchange perhaps maybe not take them here to Zia. Try Stinkweeds instead. read more

Bad selection and your trade ins mean nothing at this location. staff really has a bad attitude about everything you ask them to look up items in their store and I always get the same answer the stock section is not working what it stops working every time I go into the store. Traded here for the first time.. took in 6 animation shirts and 50 or so movies... they had what they were buying on the desk 3 shirts and about 5 movies.... I took the 7$ cash they offered for it... before I left I noticed 4 shirts were missing so I asked how many they took.. the guy said 4... soooo why was the 4th one hidden behind the desk when you made me an offer? Made me wonder how many movies they actually took and hid behind the desk with my 4th shirt..... extremely sketchy... won't be trading there again. Not only can you purchase items you can also trade in your older goods. Time-to-time when i am looking for a last minute gag-gift this is the place i go. Moving from Indian School to this building was a terrible idea. Zia used to have kitschy, rare, interesting inventory. Now, the store is an old CVS building, with terrible ambience. The friendly, indie vibes are all but gone, and the stuff they carry is crap from romance novels to mainstream films. There are still obscure fun items near the checkout, but it's not the same. It's like the girlfriend with a special, unique look...who went and got a tit job and a nose job while she was at it. Now she giggles with a vacant look in her eyes. I like coming here, friendly staff. I usually come and just spend about 2/3 hours looking for cool albums or movies. And I am actually impressed that they are starting to carry KPOP albums. I even found a Japanese version from my favorite kpop girl group, TWICE. So that's a big plus there. The only thing that sucks a bit is that Ive taken several stuff in excellent condition and they offer you less than what you were hoping and I mean WAY LESS. There is a wide variety of new and old entertainment for old and new which is great. Platforms of all types are here if you're a gamer, instrument player, fanboy/fangirl, an avid reader, or collector. If you want to trade or sell, their prices are a joke--catching up to Game Stop. I waited for almost 2 hours just for $6. Their service is great but their bargaining is horrible and like a slap to the face. First review. Maybe be a helpful to you guys, who knows. First record store I've been to and this is my fourth visit. Nice atmosphere and pretty enormous as a store. (Which means more roaming) *good thing* You can find: records, cds, used games, book, and my most favorite...childhood memories like movies and a whole lot more. The customer service overall is friendly and nice and they give you this missing puzzle piece at the end of your purchase for you can donate before you leave. The only downfall to this review is that they are not a whole lot k-pop or J-pop, but that is understandable. I would recommend this store to anyone. read more

Don't bother ordering a transfer of a used CD from their Vegas location to a Phoenix location. Almost a month of waiting and being told it's still showing as ordered, someone finally told me today that it doesn't show in their computer system because they pretty much use post-it notes when ordering used CD transfers and there is NO order showing. I would not recommend shopping at Zia's. I have bought two vinyl records from here and both skip. I thought possibly it could be my record player, however, all the records I have bought from other stores work just fine. It is only the Zia records that skip. I make sure to only buy new records from here, not used, so there is no reason they should skip. If you want a working record I would not buy from here. read more

I really enjoyed the vinyl selection. The building and location are kind of odd and the employees could be a little more welcoming. Although, my only real complaint is that they wouldn't let me use their restroom. You could spend a lot of time searching through the vinyl selection, so a bathroom would have been great. read more

Avoid this place! They are thieves! I traded in 4 PS4 games and asked for store credit but they gave me a receipt showing I sold the games and received cash unbeknownst at the time until I tried to use the store credit later & discovered I had none. I called and spoke with a female on the phone who said the Store Manager could reverse the transaction and honor my store credit. Apparently, the store manager only comes in a few times a week (so I was told). The female said she would leave a message for the manager to call me and sort this out, 2 months later I have not heard one word back from the stores so called management. Ultimately, they took in my games and I did not receive a dime for them. They win! Straight stole my games...Also this place offers you the very lowest amount possible, it's HORRIBLE! Be careful trading in your items here and check your receipts ALWAYS! I now travel the extra miles and go to the store on Thunderbird they are so much better than this poor excuse of a "Record Exchange" store. After telling The employess at the Thunderbird location what happened to me here they offered to help me out and apoligized for the camelback locations mistake. Never will I EVER be going back to this camelback location, and I would suggest you not to as well! read more

This place is hit or miss. Usually miss. 12 years ago I could find buttloads of out of print, hard to find gold. The past few years it just went down hill. Seems like "New Times" and "Mtv" run the show now. Just a bunch of main stream crap. Worth checking out on a boring day. Zia is awesome! I lived in Phoenix for 14 years and had no idea it existed until I came back to visit. I love all the different sections of the store. You can find anything from vinyls to CDs to books to action figures to comic books. The vinyl section was small compared to Amoeba in LA that I usually shop at, but it was a well organized and great prices on new and used records. read more
