Stinkweeds is one of the top vinyl record shops in the AZ area! This spot has a back parking lot with a decent amount of spots. Inside, they have a pretty spacious setup with records neatly organized by genre and artists. Their records are priced fairly and they have records in both used and new condition. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. I definitely spent a good hour or so crate digging here. I came up empty today but will definitely be back next time I am in the area! read more

Friendly, easygoing staff that greets you when you walk in but also lets you wander around on your own, and is there for any questions or recommendations. They're honest and not "aloof/rude" like maybe some other record shops can come off as. Nice people and fair trade-in values on records if you decide to sell some there. Clean shop, well-organized, great selection of many genres new and old, as well as vinyl accessories etc. They have 45 record singles, as well. If you're into jazz, they have all the latest reissues of Blue Notes, Prestige, Verve etc, which is amazing as those albums are legendary and the reissues are high quality. Overall a fun place to visit and feel like you belong. Great customer service , no attitudes, great selection of records new and old, and easy parking. Love Stinkweeds! read more

I've been to Stinkweeds twice now, and I'm really impressed by both the selection and the service. I ended up wanting to trade a record I'd previously purchased, and Dario was super cool about asking my taste and helping me find something totally new to me. I love this place! I needed to invest in a really good turntable and speakers, and I got great advice without pushy sales tactics from (I am bad with names but I think his name was Darius or Dario or something like that?). I was also happily surprised when I inquired about my all-time favorite album and he took my name and said they'd call if it came in - and they did. They held it a few days and now I can hear my tunes in the best method and how the artist intended it. Robert Smith, my hero, would be proud. I go there periodically and everyone is totally cool and the music is always good. They have a great selection, even some fantastic vintage gems (I now have Kenny Rogers' Gambler for $5!). Trying to support local record stores during these times and had a great time browsing Stinkweeds! The shop is small but packed with all kinds of records, CDs, cassettes, and even a few books. They have a nice stock of 7"s. Two staff members were there to help but gave you your space and were friendly. During COVID you have two options to shop: curbside pick up or booking a private appointment. For a $10 deposit (that comes off your total) you get 45 mins for you and up to two others to browse during a set time. It was awesome! Not only do you have the shop to yourself but you are staying safe. Masks are required, social distancing is enforced, and hand sanitizer is provided. Local independent record store worth a visit. Recently renovated. Nice new refresh. Did like the old patio but oh well Decent selection of vinyl as well as some cds and even cassettes. Im very particular and have been to the best record stores in the world but if I look I can find something of interest. Dont expect too much. But hell its my local record store and I will definitely support their effort. I would recommend this shop to everyone. Probably my fave for the Phoenix area but hey its Phoenix so. The best record store I have been to in such a long time! I wish I lived close so I could frequent this place, but we were just driving through on a road trip when we stumbled on Stinkweeds. They have such a wide selection of great music and it was hard to walk out of there without buying the whole place! Although the store is small, it is packed with essentials. Great digs and decent prices! We might have to make a special trip to Phoenix just to visit this record store again. We especially loved the boxes of free vinyls on the way out and grabbed a few. I really love swinging in here anytime I'm in Phoenix. The workers are always incredibly helpful and friendly, and I like that they have a little of everything. Definitely caters to the alt/indie rock scene which is my jam, so I appreciate it. I like that they also have cool merch to buy, as well as record players and accessories. I was happy to learn that this local record store sells tickets to three local venues: The Rebel Lounge, Valley Bar, and Rhythm Room. I heard about a certain South London anarcho punk band from the 80's touring and coming to the Rebel Lounge, and I wanted physical tickets! Well this is where you get them! You could say that Stinkweeds is like those venues box office, the employee even informed me of how many tickets were left for sale! I'll going to the Rhythm Room for a show too so I'll be back for more tickets very soon. They even have local posters up about related music and dancing events around town - even learned there's a place to learn swing dancing, can't wait to go there! Great local shop promoting other local places, and YAY for traditional physical stub tickets! Screw eprinted tickets. As for the actual products, they have a vinyl collection, CD collection, cassette collection, record players, t-shirts for adults, band onesies for infants, and more! I've been a loyal Stinkweeds customer since back in the Tempe days. Kimber & co have kept independent music alive in Phoenix on so many levels. I try to buy new releases from here rather than online if I can, and tend to walk out with a little something extra from the used bin. The variety of music they serve up to the community is spot on - from whatever they call "alternative" nowadays to local, jazz and beyond. But, don't expect to get the latest Top 40 hits here (does that even exist anymore?). They have a good balance between new & used, vinyl & CD (and even cassettes!). The prices for new releases are reasonable/comparable with the Big River, and the used selection is well curated. Parking can be a pain sometimes, but I can usually find a spot unless there's an event going on. The staff are always real helpful too. They seem to go out of their way to not be the stereotypical snooty indie record store clerks. I also appreciate the white board with upcoming concerts and new releases on it. And you can get tickets for local shows here too! I know business is rough in the music industry, but hopefully enough people still appreciate vinyl (and CDs) to keep Stinkweeds on the Phoenix map! read more

Nice little spot if you are searching for that smaller local music shop. As a vinyl collector I found their selection to be decent. My car is an 80s classic and therefore, still has a working cassette player so I found some sweet-ass gems. I am sure that not many people have Stryper as a music choice lingering in their vehicle. The staff was friendly but not overly friendly which I prefer; nothing more annoying than people bothering you when you're trying to look at merch. Overall, nice joint. read more

Bought two records here that were marked "very light scratches." Upon opening them at home in Washington, it's clear Stinkweeds staff has no idea what light scratches are. Here it is: Light scratches are surface only that do not affect play. Deep scratches go through the grooves and cause loud pops. Both records had several deep scratches, easily felt with a nail. Both records are throw-aways. Kids, I know a lot of you think records should sound scratchy with pops and ticks, and that many of you for whatever insane reason think this is great. A wonderful neighborhood record store with deep shelves and friendly folks since 1987 - wow! The vibe here is cool, but not pretentious and the prices are cheaper than LA/NY... definitely worth a stop if you're visiting. I almost never find Coltrane albums anywhere else besides my hometown.. Baltimore, MD, but this one always have at least one. Lots of Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix. A refreshing old-school record store that reminds us, in the days of iTunes and mp3's, that music is first and foremost about friends and community. Sure it is a tad cramped, but that is because it is chock-full of indie music goodness (along with a selection of some high quality mainstream tracks). This is the place to go for tickets for Crescent Ballroom and Valley Bar. If you want to purchase tickets before hand and dont want to pay a six dollar service this is place to go. You do need to pay cash and there is a one dollar fee. But thats a five dollar savings per ticket. I was also inquiring about a record player and the lady working was very helpful and informative. I've always known stinkweeds to be a great place. However, I just bought a record player and I went there with high hopes, but was very disappointed. I don't know if they got a shipment of records during the heat of the summer...but this place has an issue. I bought a record and drove straight home with it. It was so badly warped I had to return it. I was issued store credit and went back two weeks later with my boyfriend to pick out another record together. We used our store credit for an MGMT record.... and again it's warped. It's not nearly as warped as the first one, but we still can't listen to it. Seriously annoyed with this place and will never go again. I will never recommend anyone to go here either. read more

Its definitely not the biggest music store in the valley, but its certainly got the most charm. Endless supplies of Indie Records, old and new, and they carry tons of albums and vinyl that I haven't been able to find in other stores. If they don't have what you are looking for, they will special order it for you, and once its been received they will promptly let you know.. I know this because they just called me, to tell me my selection was in.. which reminded me that I needed to review these wonderful people. The staff here are awesome.. totally knowledgeable with their music and also at recommending artists to fit your taste.. I went home with over $70 of music the other day.. 2 artists of which I hadn't heard of but ended up loving. Whether you're looking for new or used, they WILL have what you're looking for, and if not, they will make it happen anyway.. and all reasonably priced, maybe even a little cheaper than other stores I've been in. Hipster Mecca. Come here for new vinyl, not for the old stuff. They have all the hip, indie stuff on brand-new, in the package, hot off the press vinyl. Come here for indie stuff. If you want to get that look that says someone has recognized your coolness for requesting The Fireman (look it up if you don't know. I mean it) this is the place. The people who work here are super-helpful, super-knowledgable, super friendly and have super-powers (one of these things is not entirely true). They are so in the loop that it makes you feel really cool if you stump them, like let's day you walk in and say "Hey is that Tim Seely album out yet?" and they say "Who?" and you get that look like "I got you bitch, I got you!(playfully of course)" then they give you that look like "oh man you got me!" Then you give them the Mentos smile and elaborate "The dude from Actual Tigers." On a related note I am really awesome. They offer to order anything you can't find. My one complaint is the way the used CDs are set up in the tiny cubbies up top makes it hard to scan them but it is a small complaint for such a charming place. read more
