I write this review as an elementary teacher who loves books and reading in her free time. I first discovered Bookmans a few months ago when I had the time to read more. When I first walked in, I was amazed at how big the space was with books, comics, musical instruments, gadgets, etc. And naturally, I was curious if they had teacher discounts -- and what do you know, when I went up to the counter, they said they offer 20% discounts for teachers, and even have a Read 10 program for students/kids (if a child reads 10 books and writes a book report for each, I was told it could be a paragraph long or so, they can get 1 free book in store!) I love how this bookstore supports educators and children! But with that being said, I have noticed that there are some suggestive items near the checkout, which is fine, but as a teacher who has mentioned the Read 10 program to my 3rd grade students, I feel slightly uncomfortable having them go here knowing those things are visible in the one place they'll probably have to go through in this big bookstore. Now, reviewing not as a teacher but as a person... This is an awesome place for book-lovers who read for the story, not the cover: Some books on shelf may be worn down (small folds on paperback, slight fades on the spine, I assume they were traded in) but that makes them super affordable! I love to support, and personally I would prefer a once-used book for cheaper from a smaller business than a new $$ one from a chain (Don't worry, Bookmans has new stuff too though). They also host monthly/weekly events like Mahjong Mondays!

Wow, what a place! How is it I've never been here?? Only thing missing is a cafe! Sell, buy books, Musical instruments, dvds, magazines, games, gameboys, you name it. The store is huge and they even sell jewelry (used) and Knick knacks ( also used). You could easily spend a few hours here and some serious cash. Great selection!

A must visit for book lovers, music enthusiasts, and creative types in general. This place is seriously a haven! My first visit was over an hour and I barely scratched the surface. The metaphysical and esoteric section was particularly intriguing but there's truly something for everyone. They offer a great buy back program as well. Such reasonable prices! Price: amazing value Food: none Drinks: none Service: super friendly staff Ambiance: rows upon rows of books, music, memorabilia, and Sanrio gifts Good for: gifts, book lovers, musicians, and vinyl

What an awesome place. Don't let the fact that it's a trade and resale shop fool you--the store is clean, organized, and full of high-quality finds. We were especially excited about the huge selection of books and board games, which is what originally drew us in. There were also some really cool instruments to check out. On top of that, the customer service is always friendly and helpful. Bonus points for being dog-friendly too. Well-behaved, leashed pups are welcome, which makes it an even better spot to browse and spend a few bucks on a hot summer day.

A great welcoming sign inside BOOKMANS, Phx, AZ.

Epic and plenty of books to hide away and freshen up on your literature skills. This place has everything music related, comic related, eclectic findings, retro related, magazines, maps, jewelry, game systems, band systems, vinyl, CD's, DVDs, Bluerays, players, hardware, software, and and all books ranging from the early ages to more contemporary ideas. One could imagine themselves with any question in their mind related to space, science, the human body, plants, death, life, spirituality, psychology, humor, food, philosophy, medical, ideologies, animals, lifestyle, legalities, governments, religion and sooooo much more. One can literally find all the answers in this one location. FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN: There are several sweet spots for families which include a children's area where kids can explore their inner desires for reading. Those into anime can get their fix with the various rows upon rows of toys, books and magazines. Comic fans will absolutely find quality here from the early hero's to todays newest and upcoming hero's. Literally, if you can think it, you can find it here. The staff is amazing and this place is ran like a well oiled machine with a cozy atmosphere - got questions; folks here are happy to answer. Bookmans is always accepting new and used products (all of the above) and you can either get store credit or cash on the spot. Large backpacks are left at the counter, food and drinks are welcome as long as patrons are courteous and clean up after themselves. Restrooms are assigned male and female and are pretty clean. Overall, I would recommend and give yourself time to browse, you'll be glad you did.

Great used book and entertainment store in the Phoenix area. We stopped in to see what it was like and walked away with a ton of books for a fraction of the cost. They also purchase used items and I plan to see if they might buy some stuff soon. We will definitely be back.

Bookman's is an ethical business and I always felt that a fair price (in store credit) was given for my books.

I am usually not in this area a lot, but my daughter & I wanted to go check out this bookstore for…read moresome used books so we took the drive down. When we arrived, I realized I remembered this spot from when I was a kid, I just hadn't been back since I was younger. This spot is absolutely STUFFED with books, comic books, VHS tapes and more. You could spend quite a long time wandering around looking at all of the books they have to offer. It can be slightly overwhelming especially if you are looking for something specific as there wasn't really any clear guidance on where to find certain sections. We still had a lot of fun though wandering around and seeing what we could find. If you are looking for the prices, they are written in pencil on the inside of the books. You can find a mixture of mostly used books along with some new books. They have a cute shop cat that you can sometimes spot wandering around, or asleep at the front. The woman who was working the register the day we visited was friendly! They also had a cart out-front with a number of books that were free to grab. There is plenty of parking out-front.

Once I was got to the store, I had to explore. I think that if one were to regularly visit Books, he/she would find some rare editions and other gems. Also, they had what looked like reproductions of banned book announcements posted around the store: all were of classic novels that we can't imagine not having access to as students. (See photos: Charlotte's Web, Huck Finn, Fahrenheit 451...) They were quite entertaining, in a disturbing way. They had the effect of making me feel so grateful that past efforts of censorship in the US had failed. In 2024, this is still a real threat. Tiny stores like this one are real treasures. Let's keep them in business.

My sister and I had just visited their Tempe location and were delighted in how similar but different this Changing Hands was from Tempe's shop. Namely, this Changing Hands has a little area for coffee, booze, and bites. Just like the Tempe shop, they have an amazing selection of books and gift items and so much more. I find their prices to be so fair, especially for a fairly small indie bookshop--support small book sellers! We also loved that this shop has a tiny art print vending machine...think of the sticker machines from your childhood that traded quarters for stickers...but cooler!

Like its Tempe counterpart, this store has a fantastic selection and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to spend far more time browsing than planned. I especially loved the poetry section, which was thoughtfully curated and offered a wonderful variety of titles. Beyond the books, there's an eclectic mix of gifts and unique items that make browsing even more enjoyable. The coffee/bar is also a nice touch and adds to the overall experience. Whether you're searching for your next great read, shopping for a gift, or simply looking for a relaxing place to wander, this location is definitely worth a visit.

So little time and money and so many books! My life motto!…read more I adore Gardners. Yesterday they had an author signing/teacher appreciation/ Grand Opening event. It reminded me I have never written a review. Well, let me tell you something about myself. I adore books. I could never go 100 percent digital. In fact, I rarely use an apparatus for reading. I love the smell, feel, divine touch of a great book in my hand. I could spend my entire life, every day visiting books stores at author visits. Author meet and greets are my happy place. I am secretly envious of these people who put words down on paper and make them come to life. I might be quick witted with the tongue but lack the talent with the pen. Sooooooo, I bow down to them. Gardner's Book Service has been good to me and our community over the years. Many people might not be familiar with them since they are more a book service than a book store. They really are the best bunch of folks! Here you will find: knowledgeable staff, great teacher in-service classes, author visits, contests at times, a great grant program generously provided by Mr. Parks in memorial to his wonderful wife Barbara, and of course, books, books, and more books. Troy is the general manager and his staff are very good at what they do. They are open to the public so stop by and take a look. Yes, teachers you get a discount too. Happy reading.
