I came here to try and trade some cassettes that the other Zia on Bethany wouldn't take. They took all but 3. Woo hoo. I ended up getting 3 DVDs and it all evened out. Everyone I interacted with was nice (trade counter & cashier I dealt with). Missing star is because one of the cashiers let some other lady cut in front of the line of people. I should have been next. I believe she didn't see that there was a line. The cashier should have sent her to the back of the line instead of ringing her up. The two other ladies she was with walked to the back of the line. Other than that, I walked away with 3 DVDs for no money out of pocket because I found some cassettes that I am no longer able to play. read more

Some days I feel like snuggling up with a favorite movie to relax. Other times I like to play my fav flicks in the background while cooking or other housework. Either way, it's a comfort to have my own movie library. Zia Records recently helped me expand my collection. The store is overflowing with racks, stacks, bins and bookcases of movies, books, games, records, CDs and more. It's a little overwhelming, but I found almost everything I wanted. And I signed up for the free loyalty program when I checked out. The cashier didn't clearly explain how you accumulate rewards, but I'm willing to trust the process. The big thing is they said they don't sell your info to third parties; I did ask before agreeing to participate. As for value, I spent $15 on two pre-owned BluRay movies. I was satisfied with the prices. It was less expensive than an online site. The only reason this isn't a five-star review is because I think the store could be better organized. The sale bins aren't alphabetized, so searching for something specific would be very time consuming. The movies on the shelves are alphabetized, but some were in the wrong sections. I used to shop here on a weekly basis till I moved away. I recently returned to this part of town and decided to drop in and sell some items at Zia's thunderbird location. The employees here used to be so personable, kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming and I am so disappointed by the pretentious energy the staff have now. Took them 4+ hours to get through my items (they were relatively transparent about the time frame so I understand) but every. single. person was so unapproachable and rude. I literally felt like I was overcompensating and thanking them for everything simply because they seemed so annoyed with me for existing or contributing to their business. When I returned to check on my sell/trade I walked in the front door to find all of my bags with the items they passed on directly in front of the door (not behind a counter or in any safe location). It just feels like they are either miserable or just don't care. Retail work is under appreciated as it is and I always try to be pleasant so it was a bummer to be treated poorly off the rip. Incident with Alec, manager of Thunderbird Zia's. It pains me to have to do this after 25 years of shopping there, but.. Tuesday, March 25th at Thunderbird Zias started out like any other day. I noticed a crate of priced records waiting to go out behind the counter. The cashier was free and I asked if I could check 'em out. Happy to oblige, as he was bringing them out, Alec rushed abruptly from behind, grabbed the crate from the cashier and slammed it back down. Enraged, he turns to me, points, and yells, "You'll see 'em when we put 'em out!" Eyes glaring, he aggressively walks up on me, mad dogging ... and the N.Y. side of me thinks we're going to throw down. This guy is half my age.. I stand my ground as he passes close to my side and returns to the area in the back. There were a pair of customers who looked over, horrified. I wish I had their contact info. Anyways, it was embarrassing, unnerving and unexpected. Taken back, I returned to the record bins and looked to the back at Alec, glaring, watching my every move. . After a few minutes of him menacing from abroad, I just want to get out of there because now, I'm quite pissed. I pay for my record with the cashier that Alec grabbed the crate from and expressed my disdain for Alec's behavior by calling him a four letter word. Hey, this is my day off. I came in here in a great mood. I didn't come in to be humiliated in public. I came in to spend money with the company that he WORKS for... and he put a stop to it.           Tuesday, April 2nd. I return to Thunderbird Zias. Alec walks up with a back up employee and says, "I need to talk with you".. to which I replied, "I want to talk with you as well." He says, "I need you to leave the store. You're banned for life for calling me a name to my employee".. I replied, "Really, you started this.." Alec interrupts, sticking his chest out, throwing his arms out to the side ala Ice Cube in Boyz 'n The Hood and blurts, "Whatever! Whatever!" He wasn't letting me speak, continuing to interrupt, so ... I left peacefully. He was way out of line. Twice. THIS is their choice for store manager.. Alec, If the name I called you really hurt your feelings, I'm willing to buy you some crayons and a coloring book. So, I go through their Operations Manager, Zak. No apology. No 'Let's work this out.' They're standing by the lifetime ban. I wrote in again, asking Zak if he found out WHY this happened. No reply. Certified letters to Zia Corporate. No replies. There's a professional etiquette that should be a given when in a corporate establishment that obviously does not exist at Zia, but it used to. It's now an insulated Company with no contact info beyond an email. Zia's really doesn't care... so, why should we support and care about them? BTW, the rest of the staff at the Thunderbird location are great. And in closing to you Alec : I don't know you. I don't know your life, your struggles (family or personal), or the stress of your job. I do know in the 5 years I've seen you there that I've never seen you have a light moment with your employees. If they're chatting with smiles, their mood takes a sudden downturn when you approach. As a shopper, I've just kept my head down and avoided you because of your piss 'n vinegar attitude. Always that miserable scowl. Perhaps these last months have given you time to reflect on our incident and if you're okay with what you've done, it speaks volumes about the person you are. You took that little bit of power that Zia's gave you and abused it. Man, I feel for you and hope you someday find yourself in a better place. I usually love coming here. It's always a fun experience with so many things to look at clothes, vinyl records, and little trinkets. But my last visit was disappointing. I was searching for an item I had bought a couple years ago, since I lost the original. I even showed the workers, including the manager, a picture of the exact item. They didn't seem to know what I was talking about and honestly made me feel a little brushed off. Strangely, another customer happened to see the picture and pointed out that the item was sitting right by the registers the whole time. NEVER again will I shop at Zia Records. I used to love Zia records. I was a frequent customer here. Bought all kinds of things from this place. I've purchased vinyls, CD's, books and movies. Trinkets. Game station. I have recommended so many people to Zia records. Brought friends and family here. Worst experience ever. Worst customers service ever. Specifically the white female with blonde and colored hair working behind the counter. Had a horrible night and spent 6 hours in the emergency room. After being home and finally feeling like I can get up I decided to come shop at Zia's and pick up a few things. I'm with my boyfriend and our toddler as we're getting ready to check out our son is being a toddler wanting his toy and 3 movies he found. I'm telling my boyfriend I think we need to head to the registers in the middle of the store as all these say closed. My boyfriend starts moving towards the end of the check out where there's an employee (white female, with blonde and colored hair) behind the counter. I was unaware she was standing right there two feet away from us and could hear our entire conversation. I look up and ask "oh I didn't see you there, is there a register open here ?" She gives me the nastiest look and replies with most condescending tone "uhm yea you mean the only register right there that's open yes" YEA absolutely not, no thank you. After spending a night in the hospital and STILL not feeling well but wanting to bring my son to come get a few things to be treated so rudely is disappointing and disgusting: That was enough to never get me to come back ever again. I had $40 worth of cassette tapes being held at checkout and another $50 worth of items in my hand. I placed my items back and bought the items we promised my son and left. read more

Great place to get CD's/Records/etc. I love the atmosphere. It's comfortable and you don't feel like you're being watched like in some stores. I kept sneezing and thought maybe it was my allergies... until I looked at on of the shelves and there was a concerning amount of dust on it. Very surprised how big this location was. There is plenty to choose from, and everything is fairly priced. All things that were used are in fair to good condition. Had to stop in and buy my little cousin cassettes for Christmas. Had to return one because the tape inside was incorrect. Couldn't check it them store - they were taped closed. Called within 10 minutes of getting home and spoke with Skylar. They okayed it to be returned but only for a store gift card even though it was less than 24 hours, and with card of purchase. It's okay though because I probably will visit again. You could definitely kill hours in here. read more

Clearing out my mother's apartment and finding over 650 cassette tapes and 250 cd's we were recommended to Zia records. We took all into the 35th & Bethany home store for appraisal. Dave took all from us and told us to return in 2 hours and he would give us a total on the goods. We returned and were given the good news that our total was over $650 store credit or 40% less for cash, we chose the cash option as it was far higher than we had previously been offered. The service, care and knowledge of the staff was refreshing to see and although not everything was purchased, the returns were able to be donated to our local thrift store. We would highly recommend Zia records and their staff if you have anything to sell or indeed purchase. read more

The absolute worst experience ever. I've been here for nearly 4.5 hours and they still have not processed my trade. All I had was about 100 DVDs and a guitar amp. They definitely have their favorites here. There were trades that came in long after mine and yet still got processed before mine. This is TERRIBLY UNFAIR to the people that are waiting. I likely will NEVER come here again and do not reccomend this place to anyone. I will be sure to update how long it actually took for them to process my trade. Starting out, I feel it is important for people to understand this location has a lot of addicts afoot. Be careful. The store itself is nice inside. A record store/bookstore/second hand store will be a little cluttered looking at times. They have everything organized and workers are constantly adding new stock. The Blu-ray section has a lot of good deals. I have gotten Blu-ray's for a buck before. Granted you will not probably find cinematic masterpieces, it is still fun to peruse in search of that feel good movie from the good old days. The music selection is of course extensive with vinyl and possibly every CD ever struck. If you can't find something to buy here, unless it's expensive which happens occasionally, you might be Amish. It smells strongly from their incense section so if that's an issue, I would go in through the middle entrance. It isn't a bad smell to me, but it does make you aware of their plethora of incense. Overall, this would be a good date location, or a fun place to take the kids, as long as you are not easily offended or super religious. There is something for everyone. read more

Very strange store. Their CD section has an area that combines rock and pop of every single style, making it a pain in the butt to find stuff you're looking for. Wish it was better organized. Unless you have all day and you arrive right when they open you'll feel overwhelmed - not by the huge selection, but by the task of having to read every single one of the tiny names printed on the spine of the CDs. What if I just wanted to browse metal CDs? Not an option. The rest of the store is horribly organized as well. Didn't even bother flipping thru the vinyl. The selection was okay from what I gathered but again, nobody has time to just look at bins of random records. You're better off calling ahead, asking if they have something and seeing if they'll set it aside for you. The guy at the trade counter seemed needlessly standoffish. The store is in a terrible area too, and I won't hold them against them, but be warned: there's no public restroom here or at any of the nearby businesses that you can use without buying something first. So get that outta the way before you spend your entire day squinting at CD spines. read more

I brought one of my big tubs of CD's like the picture I attached ( I have 4 big tubs). The gentleman asked if I was wanting to trade and told me it would be like 4-5 hours before they could even look at them. I said that was ok. Then he went to look for a trade in form. He came back and said they were out of the form and to right my name and phone number on a sticky note and then asked if I was going to wait or I could leave and they would call me back, I said I would leave and they could call me when they were done. They called me later that evening and said they would not take them because they were singles. I said ok I would stop back in a few days to get them. He stated ok. I went in today to pick up and they said they were thrown out. 700 CD's just thrown away? Yes he replied. Then he called his manager and he states that they can give me a store credit for $50.00... $50.00 for 700 CD's. That would be $0.07142857 per CD. This place is a joke. Big but not deep inventory of CDs--I liked the store despite getting lost in the stacks of hard to read titles.

I have loved Zia for the last 5 years. Normally spend a good 150.00 -200.00 when i stop in. Today when i stopped by, the parking lot was almost empty.. I was pretty excited because usually i have to bypass my visit due to parking... As i got to the door, i realized why. Mandatory masks... Sorry Zia. I can honestly say that every time I have come into this store, I leave with at least one thing I've been wanting or searching for. Zia has a wide selection of new and used DVDs, CDs and books/comics. I will say they have a good selection of new vinyl, but this locations used vinyl area could be bigger. That being said, I know that probably depends on who is bringing stuff in to sell, so that's forgivable to me. They also have collectibles and all kinds of random stuff (socks, wallets, gag gifts, cards) throughout the store. I've found blu-ray or DVDs here that I've never been able to find anywhere else, minus the internet. I think overall you can find things for a good value if you have the patience to look. Rummaging through their sale movie bins are fun for me. I will say, new releases can be at a higher price point compared to other locations, but for a couple of dollars, I like supporting this place. Everyone I've encountered working here has been polite and friendly. They are pretty chill and let you browse, you don't seem to get pestered, which I like. I will also say, I've never sold to Zia, so I can't comment on that process. I've come here for RSD and had good experiences as well. They spread out releases across the store to give people some room to move. I've also ordered online and while I'm not sure which specific location may have handled my order, it was an easy process. They sometimes have contests online and the associates who handle that sort of thing have also always been very nice and helpful. Moral of the story: if I'm on the hunt for something, this is usually my first stop. read more

Over the years their prices have gone way up. Now new items are $5-10 more expensive than anywhere else. They seem to think everything on their shelves is a rare collectible. So here's what happened. I'm checking out with a vinyl and a little cheap Halloween decoration. The dude (black hair, Caucasian guy, glasses) tells me my store credit and asks if I want to use it. I say yes. He then tells me the remaining amount. I'm like ok cool. He then says, "So do you want to subtract the vinyl?" I'm like...um I guess? Thinking he means the store credit again. He finishes the transaction and hands me a receipt and placed the vinyl away from me. I'm like, "and the vinyl?" He likes, "oh so you didn't want to subtract the vinyl?" Like, what? I ask him what does he mean? He says and I quote, "Well some PEOPLE can't afford them, so that's why I asked you if you wanted to subtract it!" Smh dude should be fired. Why would anyone ever assume at any time a customer would bring up something to purchase and automatically think they can't afford it? This is the place to come for your music, book and movie needs. They literally have something for everyone with any and every kind of interest/likes. I like this place so much that I'll just come in here with no particular reason or want, but I like to just browse and see what they have to offer new. They have some awesome deals on movies from their 99 cent bins to BOGO and so on. Most of the sale items obviously are older stuff, but if you're anything like me, I like lots of the older movies and music. For the most part, everything is pretty organized into sections, but I have found things in places I wouldn't have normally thought they would be, so that is kind of confusing for me at times. I love their selection of Vinyl records and can't wait to buy me a record player so I can enjoy going to the store and getting me some records. The staff here aren't particularly friendly. With as many people that work here, you'd think at least one would say hi or something, but they kind of just keep to themselves. When I do have a question and I ask for some help, they act as if I'm inconveniencing them in some way. I'm sorry if I can't find what I need and have to ask for help, but that's what you're there for..to help the customers. read more

This is the coolest store I've ever seen, it has pretty much every kind of entertainment you can think of, I love the variety and creativity of this place. I love to collect a variety of media and this store most of the time carries what I'm looking for from movies to music and their shopping selection doesn't end there. They have a great Funko Pop section too, books, video games, collectibles, stuffed animals and figures, they even got incense! I also love their older products that they have too like cassette music tapes and VHS tapes, just really neat that they have that stuff still. I like that they have a trade counter too for unwanted items you might have and their system for that is really easy to follow. I also like the little touches of the store like the music that plays in the store, a little table of astrology-themed stuff, another little table of merchandise of the company, the musician t-shirts section, there's always something to look at here! I just really love this place, good prices too, pretty clean and very well organized environment, I highly recommend coming here for your entertainment needs! read more

This location has an extensive new and used book selection. They also sell comics. Their blu-ray selection is decent but a little disorganized. I found a few blu's of the same title under "feature films" as I have found under "comedy". The prices for the most part are low for the pre-owned films. You can find great deals about 9 out of 10 times you shop here. Their video games are a bit overpriced. If you find anything cheaper than the pre-owned games at Gamestop consider yourself lucky. They have a kid's corner with a dirty play rug that I would not allow my son to play on. A filthy children's table that I would also not approve of for any adults or children. Come on Zia, let's get some Lysol or something to sanitize it. Vacuum the rug and wash it. They also have children/family dvds in the kid's corner. I received a warm welcome from the employee that opened up the store. Cheers to that guy. I was browsing thru the store all over for about an hour and not one employee approached me. I spent a good 10 min shuffling thru the video games, which is a few feet from the employees behind the register. No one acknowledged despite the fact that they were even re-stocking merch around me. Overall I like shopping for deals at Zia but I didn't buy anything today after an hour of browsing the entire store. Had my visit gone differently I would have bought both seasons of the television series, "Jericho." I didn't buy it because I couldn't find it. I can't wait to come back to this place to just roam around for hours with a decent amount of money to spend. There is a plethora of new/used DVDs (blue rays too) that range from extremely recent to the classics. I was able to get one of my favorite 90's movies for 5 bucks and I can't wait to go back to roam through the 2 for $5 bins! This place also has comics and a wide selection of books. This is a great place to find gifts too if you have friends like mine. It's like a Spencer's but 10 times better. If you're looking to sell your stuff too, they do that! Just make sure it's in decent condition and still play-able. So many CDS! There just wasn't enough time for be to go through it all. Going back extremely soon. read more
