I am usually not in this area a lot, but my daughter & I wanted to go check out this bookstore for some used books so we took the drive down. When we arrived, I realized I remembered this spot from when I was a kid, I just hadn't been back since I was younger. This spot is absolutely STUFFED with books, comic books, VHS tapes and more. You could spend quite a long time wandering around looking at all of the books they have to offer. It can be slightly overwhelming especially if you are looking for something specific as there wasn't really any clear guidance on where to find certain sections. We still had a lot of fun though wandering around and seeing what we could find. If you are looking for the prices, they are written in pencil on the inside of the books. You can find a mixture of mostly used books along with some new books. They have a cute shop cat that you can sometimes spot wandering around, or asleep at the front. The woman who was working the register the day we visited was friendly! They also had a cart out-front with a number of books that were free to grab. There is plenty of parking out-front. read more

Found this little gem in Phoenix last week when I was on the hunt for a used copy of Song of Solomon. I called and they said they have the 1984 edition for $6, which was a great price. Once I was got to the store, I had to explore. I think that if one were to regularly visit Books, he/she would find some rare editions and other gems. Also, they had what looked like reproductions of banned book announcements posted around the store: all were of classic novels that we can't imagine not having access to as students. (See photos: Charlotte's Web, Huck Finn, Fahrenheit 451...) They were quite entertaining, in a disturbing way. They had the effect of making me feel so grateful that past efforts of censorship in the US had failed. In 2024, this is still a real threat. Tiny stores like this one are real treasures. Let's keep them in business. read more

If Walmart and Amazon Books merged and fused together I'd imagine BOOKS to appear. It feels Walmart sized inside, you can easily get lost between the crowded aisles which towered over me with Books. The books are precisely organized according to category. My favorite type of books, biographies, were broken down into several subcategories. I spent 1 hour there, which wasn't enough time to brief all 200,000 books (not a typo). My eyes were scanning , head swiveling row to row the non fiction section. Unfortunately I came away empty handed. There were several classics although recent best sellers appeared to be amiss. The most recent book I saw as Tim Tebows memoir. I don't think anyone is Tebowing anymore in 2023 but this multigenerational family owned business is a tru hidden gem. read more

When I'm looking for something, this is on of my go to stores. It's not the model of organization but sometimes I like to look a little harder. It leads me to things i probably wouldn't find otherwise. So, if you love books, you do want to stop here. Plenty of parking! read more

A little hole in the wall, but a big collection of books and the store personnel know how to help you find what your looking for! It doesn't look like much, but has lots of books! They have a rack or two of freebies outside. It's hidden in a little corner but the address is accurate! The parking lot is small but it wasn't full because there aren't other businesses right there so you won't have a problem parking. read more

They have an amazing stock that's professionally well organized, and an extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff!

I speak only for the science and technology section here. The stock is stagnant, containing many damaged, obsolete textbooks that should be on the free rack outside. I visited this bookstore in 2017 and again in 2023, not much has changed. It does appear the bookstore has a good selection of other books, romance novels, many backissues of Arizona Highways magazine, etc, at reasonable prices. But I was disconcerted to stop by twice and not find anything to purchase either time, which is rather unusual for me. read more

I found this place when I drove into their parking lot only because the road is too narrow for a u-turn. I looked up and saw the words that thrill my soul: "Book Store". I was expecting it to be one of those fake outs that are really just recruiting members for their church, but to my delight, it was a real used bookstore!! The kind that used to be easy to find before Amazon. Phoenix had so many stores like this you could spend all day hitting one after the other. I thought the book section at Goodwill was all we had left until I found this place . It's a beautiful sight to see rows of tall shelves crammed tight and stacked to overflowing with books of all sorts. And the prices are very reasonable. You will be able to walk out with so many new -to -you finds that your house might soon look like mine, which resembles this fabulous place with books everywhere. I'm so glad there's still a bookstore like this. The day I wandered in, a big monsoon was about to hit. I didn't know this because the mountain hid the incoming dust storm. It was late afternoon and I was the only customer. When the storm knocked out the power, I thought they forgot I was there and closed the shop, turned out the lights, and locked me in. The initial panic turned to thrill in a second as being locked in such a bookstore overnight sounds wonderful to me! read more

I've driven by this store so many times in my life and finally took the time to stop in the other day. Such a cute little shop with rows of tall bookshelves. I could've spent much more time looking through all the books they had and definitely plan to in the future. I got two books I had been looking for at Bookmans and OfferUp but had no success and was considering ordering online. They had a great selection and prices were very reasonable. When I first walked in I was greeted by two older women, they were listening to some old time music, like from a record. And it was cute because I barely could see one over the books. The other woman offered to help me find anything, but I just wanted to browse. THERE ARE SO MANY BOOKS! Rows and rows of books, the shelves looked like my home, double rows on shelves because there was just to many. Books in the back area that I peeked in, books in boxes still waiting to be put up. This would be my ideal Heaven. All my favorite books and than some and old time music in the background while I browse/read. The only thing it was missing was comfortable seating areas. Were there some? Not sure as I haven't completely looked through the entire store, just my sections. The book shelves are high and some times I worry that it'll topple over me. So if your claustrophobic, I don't know how comfortable you'll be in the aisles. $4.00 is the most I've spent for a book here. The paperback selection is huge! Which I love because my fingers tingle when holding a hardback for a few minutes. From the outside, the store looked small, but inside they made it work with such a wide selection. I've been back a couple times since my initial visit. And most likely will be back today. Yes I am that much of a bookworm. It is a used bookstore, so it has that used look to it, the carpet is thin, a certian smell to it. But it doesn't take away because I can find so much. read more

WHY have I not gone here sooner? What a hidden gem! It is a used book store with rows and rows (and rows) of books of varied ages. I was looking for a specific book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs, and had a quick second to pop in on may way to an appointment. There were so many books, I couldn't imagine it would be easy to find what I was looking for, but after a brief exchange which helped determine the book would be under "sociology" if they had it, we walked over to the clearly labeled row and began scanning the shelf by author. There it was! One copy. Old, a little bit of underlining already, but only three bucks! I can't wait to go back and snoop around see what other treasures lie on those shelves! This is one of the best used bookstores I have been to in the valley. Located in the sunnyslope area BOOKS is a good way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. They have a great assortment of classics, fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, romance, self-help, but my personal favorite is the travel section - I could spend hours in this one section alone. This place has everything! Books, comics, vinyl, VHS, greeting cards, star wars collectibles, etc. This is the jack of all trades of collectibles. The staff was friendly and welcoming. There are a ton of books in this store! The philosophy section was a bit lacking but just about every used bookstore is short in that department. The Sci-fi selection was pretty extensive and we found a few interesting books on Middle Eastern and Egyptian history. A great book store with the possibility of finding what you need. read more

BOOKS. Who would have guessed that Books also has records? While visiting from San Francisco, we stumbled across a random, but much wanted record we had a hard time finding. While this bookstore has a huge selection of books and is the place to be for book lovers who love wandering around for hours for books - it is a little bit disorganized. This is how I remember used bookstores were like back in the day. No Starbucks, or wifi, or frills. Just a good old book store with a huge selection at great prices. The staff are nice and helpful. I had been to this bookstore years ago, and made a recent trip to it. I was glad to see it is still around because I was looking for something in particular, that even Bookman's, and yes, even Amazon, didn't have. In an age where Amazon pretty much has put the small business bookstore out of business, I am glad to see stores like BOOKS still exist. Sure it is convenient to order a book online, but you still have to wait for it in the mail, and I have to say there is something special being able to go to a used bookstore, and spending an hour or 2 looking through the shelves for either something in particular, or just reading the book sleeves until you find something new and interesting to you! read more

I give this place 3 stars because of how friendly the lady that worked there was and how amazing their prices were. It was pretty unorganized though and I am sure that it is due to people moving books to where they shouldn't be and there just being too many books to keep organized. It is not a bad book store at all, just be prepared to have to dig and dig for what you are looking for. Worth it though for the prices :) read more

This, in my opinion is one of the best used bookstores in the Phoenix Metro area. They literally (no pun intended) have tens of thousands of books. Every where you look, books, books, books. It is a fairly large store with a small store feel and a great place to spend a quiet morning or a rainy afternoon. If you're looking for one of those "la-dee-da, oh look how stylish and posh I am" types of bookstores with a coffee bar or internet cafe, keep on moving. This place is all about the books and you're sure to find plenty. All categories are fully represented from fiction to religion, children to romance; reference to health, this store has it all including some really old and hard-to-find titles. I've been a faithful customer for well over 7 years and will continue to be as long as they are there. The sad part is few people probably realize what a gem this store really is and what a void it would leave if it weren't there. Many times I've visited I was either one of a handful of people in the store, but I've been there when there were at least a dozen other people there as well so it's a comfort to know there are others that know a good thing when they see it. Prices are low and you can always set up an account to receive trade credit on your purchases if you'd like to bring books in to trade. The staff is very nice and relaxed and willing to answer any questions you may have. Highly recommended! Be sure to visit at least once! read more
