I ordered an LP on August 28. The item was in stock. I did request to have it cleaned. However, there was no notification of an extended delay until I reached out to the store after 8 days of waiting. I've finally received notification that the item won't arrive to my home until September 13. That's 17 days after I ordered it. I contacted the store and the owner responded with an email telling me that there was a delay because he was busy doing the cleanings. There was no apology about the delay or a lack of notification. When I stated that I thought an apology was needed he sent a snarky email back again, explaining to me how things worked at his little store in Phoenix. This is not the kind of customer service that I thought I was going to get from them or any other store for that matter. I felt it unacceptable. Hence, this review! I would advise anyone buying things online from this company to give that a second thought! If it's going to be a 17 day delay, one would expect notification not nastiness! read more

Mike is great. I recently purchased 13 records from a WhatNot auction that Mike and Angel hosted. I won an UNOPENED dark side of the moon UHQR. I couldn't be happier. Every record was exactly as described, if anything his descriptions were conservative. What Mike calls VG or VG plus everyone else is calling NM. Most of the records looked band new. This was a big expensive order (for me) so I called to check on things, I got Mike on the phone easily and he was quick to provide the tracking numbers. Great to see businesses are still being run like this. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

I NEED to know why the New Order Low Life repressing a are $51.99. There is no hype sticker explaining how limited these are and I'm pretty sure they're $30 everywhere else including the New Order website. Occasionally I'll find something great at a fair price. In response to the owner's response -- the import is $23 on Amazon. Which pressing are you selling for $51.99? If it's truly a rare copy, just put a post-it note on it. The 'In' Groove 3300 N 24th St, Phoenix, AZ 85016 Record store I cringe having to give ANY stars. The owner is not only incredibly rude and arrogant but he is extremely condescending. I was looking for a specific record for my husband's Xmas present and wanted to shop local (not from a big e-commerce company). Upon opening the vinyl and playing for the first time, it was skipping all over the place. I called the store and spoke to an associate who looked up my order and said they didn't have any more of that specific record but we could exchange for something else. My husband took the drive (25 mins South) to do the exchange. He went right to the counter and the female associate said "absolutely - go pick out a replacement." My husband went to do the exchange and a man came over and said I'm going to clean the one you brought in, it'll take about 7 minutes and then I'll play it on my system. So the only option my husband had was to take back his original record. There wasn't an option to exchange apparently. Got home and played it on our system and to no surprise it skips! (Note - we do NOT have an old record player AND NO other records have skipped). I was so disappointed as I chose this store over a store closer to me and this was my husband's Xmas present. I called and asked to speak with the manager/owner but was told they weren't there. She asked me to hold then a guy gets on and says he's the owner. Let me just say as a customer I have NEVER been spoken to in this manner. Demeaning is putting it lightly! He led the conversation stating that it was MY FAULT for the following reasons - #1. My record player was the issue. #2. My lack of knowledge about how new vinyls play differently than older vinyls (but it didn't matter that other new vinyls work on our player). #3 It worked in his store so.... He continued to argue and speak over me. He even had the audacity to say "bring it in and play in the store'. My response was - why would I want you to play it in your store - I bought it to play in MY home. I said as a business owner he should want to work with his customers not scold them and tell them it's their fault. His response was I have no problem telling the customer they're wrong. He then began to say - I am known world wide. How long have YOU been working with vinyls? I said, you should train your employees better so they don't give out the wrong information about being able to exchange. Again, not taking ANY ownership (he seems to be pretty good at that), he says "I don't know who you would've spoken to that said that. The bottom of the receipt has the return policy." I am always very aware of the return policy when making purchases and did not recall any return/exchange info on it at all. I went to my invoice (ordered it on their website) and sure enough - NO details other than basic info. I found a button to press on that has "more info", it brings you to another page and at the very bottom of that in tiny font it has a return tab, so it took 2 pages to even access it! Why was I told we could exchange it if we couldn't? The girl told me no problem on the phone PRIOR to making the drive down there. The same girl the next day told my husband - absolutely, pick out something else. Seems as though the owner is not only a horrible business owner and probably miserable to work for but he hovers over his associates and screws over his customers. But he in no way is fazed by it because - do you even know how famous he is (said in the most sarcastic tone). Warn your friends and family -- don't give this douchebag any business. read more

Today I had a new stereo system and rack purchased and installed by Mike Esposito, owner of The 'In' Groove. He was not only on time, he was early, worked efficiently, tested all the equipment, and left the area clean.. The recommendations, including location in my listening room, adjustments for best sound, a great attitude, and quality audio products put The 'In' Groove at the top of my list. How have I not been here before? Super organized and clean shop. I spent at least an hour in here browsing. They have a great selection of 7" and 12" singles which is awesome to see. Everything is clearly labeled and new arrivals are right up front. I grabbed a few singles and an LP which were in great condition. Used records get an inner and outer sleeve which is so awesome. I was not expecting that. The atmosphere was chill and staff was friendly when I needed to check out. They are there for questions but also let you browse and do your thing if you don't have any. I'll definitely be returning. During COVID they require masks and use hand sanitizer between transactions so I felt safe during my time in the shop. read more

I visited Phoenix last week and this was a must visit on my list. I found a Rolling Stones Trident Mixes LP I hadn't seen in 40 years. I sold it when I opened my own record shop in 1983 in order to have rare items when I opened. This LP is amazingly clean and worth every penny I paid for it. Nice clean shop. Great selection. Stopped into this spot during our recent visit to Phoenix. We try to shop in the locally owned places rather than the larger chains. Glad we did. They have a great selection and I was surprised at some of the stuff they carried. My boyfriend managed to find some gems he had been seeking that were kind of hard to track down. Prices are fair and moderate. I found the two guys behind the counter to be friendly. We spent some time there and spent some money, too. Win win for all. I recommend stopping in. read more

Seriously made the trip from Buffalo NY to come shop The 'In' Groove and it did not disappoint. Probably one of the best organized record shops that I've been in; and I've been to a lot. Mike is a super passionate guy and it shows with his enthusiasm and knowledge. The selection is wide and varied covering about every genre you could imagine (just see the WTF section). Rare records, common record, new and used; they have it all. Also a fantastic selection of vintage and new audio equipment. If you're in the area; do stop and shop. Pricing is always subjective based on the pressing, condition and rarity. From what I see; they do a fair job and it reflects the market prices. I've found several items that I've wanted from my collection even below what they've been priced at on-line (discogs). The one thing I appreciate is that they do not sell junk here. Clean, organized, and more audiophile vinyl in one place than I've ever seen in person. Tons of SACDs, too! Would've loved to chat with THE Mr. Esposito, but he was tied up with his HVAC guy. Wow, such a cool store. Just flipping through some of their stuff, they have a great collection. I popped in just to sell a few from my collection, finally a place that actually pays you what your records are worth. I was getting rid of a few that were gifts, had not been played, and were not MUST HAVES to keep in my collection. I plan to get more shelving space when I decide to expand my collection, and you bet I will stop in here to purchase. Local is always better. Also I found their collection to be much more expansive. I am a huge fan of Stinkweeds, and frequent them for special orders and purchases. IN Groove being a stone's throw from my apartment will now be my go to. read more

Apparently these folks didn't get the memo advising record store personnel to be surly and condescending towards new customers. I visited for the first time day before yesterday and found a friendly, knowledgeable staff and a superb selection of records. And I was given generous credit for the handful of records I brought with me. One other thing sets this place apart: the sheer volume of records is impressive but the overall condition is much better than what most places offer. The nicer used items appear to have been cleaned, placed in high-quality inner and outer sleeves and packed to avoid seam split. This means that if you find that record you've been looking for (and you probably will), it won't sound like crap when you get it home. read more

This record store is peddling nazi propaganda for profit. I found a German copy of the soundtrack and speeches from "the triumph of the will," on sale for $33. If you don't know, it's a nazi propaganda film that Hilter personally commissioned and helped create. It's full of hateful nazi propaganda. I have no issues with selling something that is historical and informative but that's not what this record is. It offers up a revisionist history of the holocaust created by the Nazis. When I asked the owner why he was selling the record, he said "I don't like it but people buy it...i also sell Justin Bieber records." He clearly did not care. After some back and forth we were eventually kicked out. As we tried to leave he shoulder checked my girlfriend, which was completely uncalled for. These kinds of historical artifacts belong in museums and I hope the owner will donate the record to one. If you are really curious about "the triumph of the will" you can listen to and watch the film on the holocaust museum's website, along with a detailed critical analysis of the film's content. Its just not the place of any record store to peddle nazi propaganda for profit. read more

I was visiting Phoenix to attend a concert recently and had to check out the "in" Groove after seeing the owner, Mike's, informative videos on YouTube. I brought an armload of beloved records to be cleaned on their ultrasonic record cleaner. I found the staff, especially Ben, to be as passionate and knowledgeable about vinyl as Mike. The ultrasonic treatment is amazing, my "ambient" Eno vinyl now sound as quiet as a CD, with all the richness of vinyl. I was impressed to learn they clean their better used vinyl prior to stocking the bins. The store is very clean, well organized and welcoming. I noticed they are well-stocked in audiophile labels i.e. Blue Note Tone Poet, Found a few LPs that had been on my wish list. Great store for serious vinyl fans. read more

Walked in here for the first time as an out of town visitor to support local owned business in the wake of covid. Upon entering, a younger employee just stared at me for a few seconds and looked back down on what she was working on. The other bald guy wasn't friendly and seemed extremely bothered when I asked where something was. Customer service is completely lacking. A simple "Hello, or Welcome or If you need help, let us know" goes a long way. Why bother going to a small business if they don't care. It's a shame. Everything is on the internet (and likely cheaper). It's astounding they don't understand this here. Especially post covid when small businesses are struggling. Dont bring your records here to sell. I recently brought a stack of records to sell doe cash. I am a collector that knows my records. After looking through Ebay or Discogs for the records I brought, the owner tell me the "condition" isn't good. A number of the record I brought to sell were records I just bought in the wild SEALED. I only took them out of the sleeve to make sure they weren't warped. How can a record that's never been played or handled not be in good enough condition?? This place was a GREAT find! My friend got me a record from here for a birthday gift. As soon as I saw what he got me, I knew I had to check them out for myself. I went last week and was impressed with how large this place is. They had a great selection and the layout is easy to navigate. Unlike most of the local places I've checked out, they had a great hip hop section. If you don't find what you are looking for in the main section, you can always check out their consignment section which has some rare gems from dealers that the shop works with. I ended up dropping $100 on some rare hip hop records. The guy running the store was super friendly and even alerted me to an original print of Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death that hadn't been put out yet. I will definitely be returning to buy more stuff, but I think I will give my wallet a rest before returning again. read more
