I'm so glad I found this place! Looking to upgrade our stereo, I found them online and filled out their contact form and Glen responded quickly. I told him that text was better than email for me and he immediately switched to text and gave me great advice. I took his great advice and drove downtown to find a nice little Hi-fi shop filled with amazing equipment way out of my league and budget. I thought. Parking was easy half a block from the shop in spite of the busy coffee shop next door. Glen knew my budget and pointed me to an amazingly gorgeous pre owned tube amp. I never dreamed that I could afford a tube amp. He also set me up with the most crystal clear sounding bookshelf speakers I could imagine for less than a grand. Great stereo shop, with a focus on tube electronics and turntables. I've dealt mainly with Glen and Jim, the gentleman who does repairs. My city, Albuquerque, doesn't have a shop that sells or repairs Shindo amplifiers (or any tube amplifiers), but AZ HiFi does. In fact, until the US distributer started using them to do repairs, owners had to ship amps back to Shindo in Japan (I did and it was expensive). Jim did a great job repairing my Shindo amplifier! These guys are so generous with their expertise and I would really trust their guidance about any new equipment purchases. There is no hard sell here. A few days ago, I came to Phoenix on a trip, and Glen helped me troubleshoot my Shindo preamplifier. He took the time to hook it up for a listen in their auditioning room. It turned out to be perfectly fine, and he suggested that it could be ground hum from my power at home. I really appreciated the time he spent helping me. I think that they are the only Shindo dealer in the southwest, but they also sell Audio Research and excellent, but less, expensive tube electronics from Line Magnetic and Rogue. They are also a DeVore speaker dealer - the Orangutan is an exquisite speaker for low watt tube amps. Glen also carries a sweet selection of turntables and also cartridges from EMT and Ortofon. It is impressive for a small shop to carry so much cool stuff in stock. Many bigger shops will only special order high end cartridges. By the way, these are some of the best cartridges for "music lovers," people who love music, versus audiophiles, who often focus more on how the audio equipment sounds - and there is a difference. This place is a gem that is hiding in plain sight. Their knowledge and expertise is second to none in the city. You won't find their gear on the shelves of a Best Buy store or a Costco. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for and what you purchase here might very well last a lifetime. As soon as I walked in Arizona Hi-Fi I knew this was a place for serious sound. Tons of crazy looking amps, really beautiful looking speaker set-ups, and lots of record players. They will have everything you need to get incredible sound from your home stereo system. My friends and I got schooled in a little "Audio 101" in their sound room from the owner, who was super cool and very knowledgeable. In about 10 minutes he taught me so much about acoustics my head was spinning when I left. The sound was INCREDIBLE. I appreciated that he took the time to drop some serious knowledge. It was nice to go to a store where someone was an expert in what they sell, sadly shops like this are few and far between these days. These dudes are super helpful. I had been thinking about a hi-fi system for a while, and finally took the leap yesterday. After my purchase, Glen set-up my table (a pretty in-depth process) and showed me how to maintain and adjust it at home. He easily could have sold me on additional gear, but instead encouraged me to go home and listen to the system, really take it in, and upgrade as I go. They truly love audio and appreciate great gear, and it shows in their business. Yes it's expensive, but we aren't buying JBLs here. Without hesitation I give Arizona Hi-Fi a 5 star rating. This past week was my first visit... I got a turntable as a gift and it wasn't working and needed an expert to help me figure it out. This shop sells some of the best audio equipment available, so I was intimidated bringing in a $150 turntable with little to know knowledge of it. The gentleman was friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. He spent time diagnosing my problem and even plugged it in to his equipment to ascertain the problem. I had a subwoofer with a bad amplifier and was having a tough time getting support from the manufacturer so I decided to find a local company who could help. The guys at Arizona Hi-Fi were willing to inspect the amp and repair it if they could. Well, a couple days later, I got a call saying it was fixed. They easily saved me HUNDREDS of dollars since my next step was to find a replacement. Everyone I worked with was very courteous and easy to work with and I would not hesitate to go back to them for additional repairs or to replace any of my existing equipment. From the outside you could easily pass by one of the greatest audiophile quality stores in Arizona. It is right between Stinkweeds Records and Dutch Bros Coffee Shop. What's amazing about this place is the people that work there. Glen is amazing and can help you with any problem. The staff is very inviting and friendly. I have an old system from the 1980's and wanted to "tune-up" the turntable. I found this place on the internet. I drove down from Prescott and went in only to find some very high end equipment. My first impression was that my little 1980's turntable would be laughed at and there would be no replacement cartridge etc. to replace the bad one I had. HOWEVER, I was completely impressed that a guy named Dan said he could help me and that it would only take a moment...so I could sit down and listen to some tunes while I waited. Only $120 later I am out the door with my turntable that sound great and no hard sell. No condemnation. Just honest fine service with a professional who was willing to help and work with a non "professional hi-fi" consumer. Very refreshing and I recommend this place to all. And yes....If an when I have some money to change a couple of things with my sysytem now...I will be back. read more
