I have purchased several components and speakers from Phil including a nice Pioneer turntable and an amazing pair of super clean near-mint Pioneer HPM-100B speakers. The deals are usually very fair. I brought in an expensive CD player that started mistracking. I feared it needed a new expensive laser assembly. Instead, the tech cleaned and lubricated the laser rails and conditioned the drive belts. The unit has worked flawlessly since the servicing. The charge wasn't too much more than what I spent on gas to drop off and pick up the CD player. They seem to always have a backlog, so it may take a week or two to get to your equipment. read more

They had the stereo receiver for a long time. Finally completed repair charged me $350. Picked it up. 24 hours later, the stereo would not turn on. Accused me of doing something that would cause that to happen. When all I did was push the on/off button. I just don't think this place knows how to do a quality repair on a vintage stereo receiver. Extremely crude & unprofessional to deal with. If something goes wrong and you've already given them your money. their attitude is, I don't really have to do anything about it because I have your money already. Depressing. read more

Brought in a boom box that possible had a blown amp. $30 to diagnose which I was fine with because I know nothing about fixing it and the guy had a negative attitude about not having g space to store it (called ahead and said I could leave it when he requested it be left there). I had issues with my mammoth 1970s vintage receiver. As soon as I dropped it off for repair, I knew it was in the right hands. The guys at this shop knew everything about this receiver - years of production, watts per channel, noise reduction capabilities, etc.... It turned out the most obvious way to fix the problem would not work. They tested out a couple of different theories until they narrowed down the issue to a very unlikely place in the unit. I am thrilled to say the receiver never sounded better, and I am shaking the walls again with an amp that I can't even turn the volume one-quarter of the way up without hitting decibel levels that rival a Who concert. I used to take my vintage stereo equipment to some old-school stereo guys who eventually retired after 50 years in the business. I was beginning to think that I'd never find another place with techs who had the same knowledge, experience, and passion for vintage equipment. I am happy to say I found them. I purchased a small, lightweight, easily portable record player that could be moved from room to room. It hadn't been used until just before I had to pack up my entire house so the floors could be re-done. As I was packing all my albums, I decided to play my faves, for motivation. The record player worked perfectly, and it was a joy to sing along with the songs of the 70's that I loved so much. The record player was packed and put in a safe place while I was out of my home for 5 weeks. Once back in the home, I unpacked the 45's 1st (before the albums), so I decided to play them while unpacking. The record player was getting power, because the red light was on, but I noticed something that could have caused it not to play. The stylus of player was a type that turned the motor on when the stylus was lifted and placed on the record. As I lifted the stylus, the turntable would not spin. I thought I tried everything, but couldn't get it to work. I started researching electronic repair shops, but the only answers I could get were, "We don't repair those." or "My advice, throw it away." I am from a generation that cares for and fixes what is broken. I do not just throw things away. Finally, I found THE SOUND GUY. I called and discussed the issue with him. He recommended bringing it out to his place of business. He said he might be able to trouble shoot and fix it that day. If it required a part, that could take longer. I live in South Chandler, and he is up North, about 50 miles from me. Since he was my only hope, I made an appt to bring the piece in. I arrived 40 minutes early, called to see if it was OK to come in now. He said to come on in. The store is a playland for electronic aficionados! Everywhere you look, a plethora of every type of musical electronic piece. It was sensory overload. I loved it! A technician was working on a piece right out in front, so cool to watch intelligent people at work! A customer who entered with me, sat down and started visiting with the whole crew. I asked for Guy. He introduced himself and I sat the piece in front of him. He plugged it in and started pressing the buttons on the front. He showed me one of the 8 buttons said 'Source'. He went through the cycle, continuously pressing the button until it landed on "Phono'. He picked up the stylus, set it on the record and it worked! I realized that somehow, during my move, the 'Source' button had been inadvertently pressed. How embarrassing that I didn't know that. Guy was so cool and helpful. Confidentially, I couldn't read the words on the buttons without reading glasses, (they are still packed somewhere!) Without Guy's help, I may never have figured out the simple solution to my dilemma. I am so grateful to Guy and the crew at his shop. If you have ANY electronic issues, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! Recently, The Sound Guy installed an auxiliary unit in my 2006 Toyota Corolla factory stereo. He did so quickly and was able to hide the aux cord in the little storage unit just below my stereo. I'm very pleased with this business person and he technical skills. He charged me approximately $80. The Sound Guy was recommended by Camelback Toyota where I get my Corolla serviced. I'm so very glad I phoned Toyota and The Sound Guy. Prior to making these phone calls, I phoned a different vendor-technician and he told me that multi-disc CD players are no longer manufactured and that I wouldn't be able to find one that could accommodate newer technologies like Mac products (I-pod, Smart Phone, etc.). This vendor-technician said he could get me a low end premium stereo with one disc and Mac capability plus installation for about $250. When I called The Sound Guy, he said all I had to do was get an auxiliary input installed for about $80 and I could keep my multi-disc stereo. I'M SO GLAD I WENT WITH THIS GUY! read more

I checked the ratings for this company before I brought my Technics amplifier in to be repaired. After a brief conversation with whomever answered the phone, I brought my Technics amplifier in to be repaired. I called a few days later, and they said they had no record of it coming in. I said I paid the $30, so I have a receipt I bought it. He said sorry, as if that was it , and goodbye. I became upset, and obviously he did not think that it was appropriate that I was upset that he lost my property, so he hung up on me. After that another gentleman called, and said he would look for it. They found it and would work on it that day. My problem with the tuner/amplifier was I had to giggle the volume button a couple times to get it to come on - not all the time, but it was progressive. Indicated there was a short, I would assume. After they got done working on, which he said was not repairable as too many issues with the main board, and was more interested in selling me a stereo that was consigned to his shop, he said it had been dropped and he just could not fix it. It was dropped 23 years ago (I assume by movers during my move here), which I noticed 23 years ago, and has worked since. He put it back together badly. It was rattling when I picked it up, and I said nothing, because the one gentleman was not approachable. I got it home, plugged it back in, and now it does not work at all, the inputs in the back are really loose and coming out, and it stated "overload" when I hooked it back up. He made a mess of things. So I paid $30 to have them completely ruin my amplifier. I am just so upset. read more
