I've never been in the place so I can't say anything other than the following. I called wanting to sell a collection of 45 RPM vinyl records. I was told the buyer is there Wed. / Sun. I'm old and can't see well so before going there, about 30 miles 1 way in traffic, I decided to send an email asking if they would be interested in buying. 4 days later no response. I guess they're not interested. no response, not even, we're not buying at this time, but thanks for contacting us. Nothing. My 515 records are worth over $4000.00 but I'll sell for pennies on the dollar, all or some. If a customer isn't worth a 2-minute email response, this isn't a business I would consider reliable, trustworthy, or even shopping at. read more

We had been meaning to stop in here for some time and were in the plaza to attend the grand opening of the Bricks & Minifigs store this past Saturday when a man approached us with his business card, introduced himself as Scott from Asylum Records, and invited us to stop over, check out his shop, and meet his cat, Hopper. Well, with an introduction like that we had no choice but to stop over after we grabbed some Lego pieces. Holy Funko Pop collection, Batman !! I had never before seen anything like the Funko Pop collection that Asylum has on the North wall inside their store. If you're looking for a specific Funko, they are likely to have it in stock. Wow. Besides the newer collectibles like those this is a traditional old school record store. I felt like I had been transported back to the early 80's when I was buying up albums by groups like Ratt, Huey Lewis and the News, Prince, Men at Work, etc. Scott fits the bill perfectly, too. He'll entertain you with stories as you shop or while you're checking out with your latest purchases. Fantastic first visit. Looking forward to future visits. Asylum records is my favorite record store in the entire US. I don't reside in AZ but ANYTIME I come to the Phoenix area I make it a priority to make my way to visit. The owner Scott has sooo many good quality records for your money. And he has stories from meating many rock and metal bands from the 80s and 90s. read more

Walked in, first time here, no one else in the store, guy at the register, didn't even acknowledge me. Wasn't even sure at first if anyone was event there. Never welcomed or asked if assistance was needed. Found several records I would have liked to purchase, all prices at $50 each. Stating "foreign print" as the reason on the record sticker, yet no other print options at better cost. I won't be back. Cheers. read more

I stopped here on a Tuesday morning when they opened before heading back to Las Vegas and I'm so glad I did. This is a huge store full of records, collectible, shirts, and even has a ton of signed memorabilia on the wall for you to gawk over. After a ton of browsing my girlfriend settled on some records and we were on our way. I wish we had more time to scope things out and I will absolutely be hitting up Asylum Records the near time I end up back in the Phoenix area. We inherited a wonderful 1500+ vinyl collection from a family member giving opportunity to become more familiar with the players and quality sounds of yesterday. In the opening of this new world we have been visiting the few places left that deal with music in the vinyl medium. Entering Asylum was an amazing 'first experience'. Was not expecting the wall to wall, literally, collection of Scott's...well, big eyed figurines! As we adjusted and got our bearings, there they were, the treasures of vinyl of our quest; and what a great organized selection to go through! Prices are medium to high with a section of used albums starting at $1. You are able to inspect the vinyls before you purchase but will need to take them up to the purchase counter; I guess some had abused the privilege in the past. Scott, the owner, is friendly and helpful. Totally recommend this place if you are into vinyl. read more

I was being short and generous with my wording in the earlier review. By "chatty" I mean to say that he will not take social queues and assumes that everyone wants him to stand behind them and wax on how you can come get a photo with the bass player from Chürkin Dürtiez or whatever next week for only $50. As far as stores with friendly employees that don't make you feel like you're on a refrigerator sales floor, complete with upselling? I love to chat with and purchase records from the employees and owners of Eastside, Desert Grooves, Zia, Bookmans, Stinkweeds, and Deadwax. The extra star I had given earlier was, again, being generous, but it was because I managed to find a great bargain once out of my three visits to Asylum; it was listed at $6, which was a great deal since it was a $68 record. read more

I came here to check it out since it came up on my for you page on Instagram and since I was in the area I stopped by and it's a pretty cool store they had some actors there today and I figured it would be packed but it wasn't, it was pretty empty. I was looking at the records they had and I couldn't look in peace without having this man follow me around asking if I needed help every time I walked around pretending he was organizing the records(which are overpriced) I don't like checking out stores feeling like I'm being watched so I left across the street to Zia and Terror Trader won't be coming back here again. read more

Awesome record store! I dropped in to see what I could find and walked out with some great records! The best was the owner. Dude was a walking knowledge of all aspects of music and is tied pretty well to the music scene in the state. The best part was his excellent customer service. He greeted us when we came in, offered to help find anything we needed and pretty much made us feel very welcomed. His selection of metal was top notch and kudos to his signs to let the desk handle the records to show you their condition. Why? Because he's anal in how LPs are handled and stored back in the sleeves. Can't say I blame him. It's a pet peeve of mine when someone whips out an lp and puts it back in the sleeve sideways where an album can roll right out!! Mesa has an awesome shop for sure! read more

If you're looking for a super over priced record goldmine this is your go to record shop. Scott I didn't tear up your 12 inch section as you mentioned in google. Three records I purchased were warped and never brought it up. I've DJ'd at Cellblock in Chicago also the WAVE Waikiki and Hula's in Honolulu. I've had my share of good music good crowds and learned when to swallow my pride. Working for a major airline for 30 years gave me every opportunity to play and shop the best music around the world. This store has tons of cool stuff on display & hanging on the walls. When I walked in I don't remember being greeted. I do remember some dude behind the counter talking to customers about his glorious days when he was a roadie. So I'm digging in the crates & find stuff that's on my list. I inspect the records but I couldn't believe how trashed the records were. For the price I thought they would be in mint condition. All of a sudden a chick comes out of nowhere & asks me if I'm looking for anything in particular. I asked her for Def Leppard - Pyromania. She has the nerve to tell me that item is in the back where they keep the eBay stuff. So I take a peek & sure enough a stash of goodies. She showed me the LP & it was noway worth the 25$ she wanted. It was full of scuffs & scratches I told her it was out of my budget & jammed. Everything here is way over priced. This ain't LA or NY! read more

Great selection and great staff but I just can't stand coming here anymore. Offers you a fourth the value of your trade and prices your items later at higher than the current market value. If you'd use more sources than Ebay for pricing and actually got the versions correct by using something like Discogs, prices would be more fair. I remember almost buying a Pink Floyd record for $130 (yeah it's really rare, totally worth it, buy it man), to find out it's just a cheap ass bootleg that sells for $25 on average. The ignorance on pricing and not giving even close to a fair deal to someone that's been coming to your shop for years, bit of a slap in the face if you ask me. I'll miss you and Hopper. read more

This was my first time coming here and it was such an amazing experience! As you've probably already read, Scott (the owner) is a super chill, down-to-earth individual. As for the store itself, it is very much a reflection of its owner. A calm and chill environment where everyone just seems to have a mutual love for music and memorabilia.
