Yesterday, I stopped here for a quick work lunch break. I was really surprised how fresh the food was with a super fast turnaround from ordering to being served. I went with the Pad Woon Sen minus the onions, with shrimp as the protein. It wasn't on the lunch menu, but was a very nice and filling portion. The wonderful lady who greeted and served me had that authentic Thai charm and accommodating attitude that I love about the Siamese culture. The spice and flavors were spot on. The glass (clear) noodles were perfectly cooked, and the Thai Iced Tea was one of the best I had, which also gave me the supercharged energy to conquer the rest of my work day. I had their veggie egg rolls and pot stickers. I had never tried this place before. I figured I'd keep it simple for my 1st visit. The post stickers are very tasty with the classic dipping sauce. The veggie egg rolls were great and had a warm honey style dipping sauce that was great, in my opinion. I will go back soon for more classic dishes and report that experience. While in Phoenix for a conference, we wanted to try a variety of foods and when a sushi place turned us away, we decided to try out Zen Thai. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, the familiar fragrances of Thai ingredients filled the air. Kinda dramatic but very accurate. We were greeted by Rachel, who was like a whirlwind of action and she sat us down, brought out menus, took our drink orders and then came back with them. Very quick and friendly service. No longer able to handle Thai hot heat, I ordered a chicken and pad Thai dish at level 2 and the others ordered as well. Our second round of drinks arrived and then followed by out food. I found the taste to be perfect in heat level, taste, and quantity and finished every bit of it. Rachel closed out our bill and thanked her for her outstanding service and food. We enjoyed it so much that a couple of us returned the next day for some Thai wings, pot stickers, and the other fellow suggested a fish dish. He was on the money and the fish had a light crisp on top but moist and flavorful on the inside. Highly recommended. Before leaving Phoenix, had to try a pho and had a beef stew pho, which had plentiful tender chunks of beef and also included a side spring roll. Another highly recommended dish. Zen Thai is the real deal if your craving authentic Thai cuisine, the super summer roles were a good choice to start off our meal, fresh fresh fresh ask for the this green salsa it's the bomb with the rolls. We also had the drunken noodles, be ready for flavor town! Green curry, eggplant and their fish (I forgot the name) but it was a phenomenal dish as well. The main reason they're getting the 5 stars is that the whole experience was very nice, great service, super food, a relaxing atmosphere (we never felt hurried) and so darn good. Unbelievable ! This could be the best Thai in Phoenix if more people knew about this downtown spot. We had originally found it on my birthday, when Harumi was take out only. Opened for dine in during COVID with mask required. Service is amazing, very attentive and super friendly. I believe she is the owner but I am not certain. The yellow curry is beyond delicious. I can't even begin to describe the bomb and intense flavors after your first bite. For appetizers, we had veggie egg rolls & some potato dish with an insane peanut sauce. My mom and I tried this place after her treatment on a Thursday around 3pm and let's just say this will be our go to place after treatments. Food: the menu is huge. We got the chicken satay which was sooo delicious and the calamari. I don't like calamari to begin with so I can't speak on that- my mom said it was good and lightly breaded but it wasn't her favorite. For a meal we split the beef Garlic black pepper- the flavors were amazing. My mom doesn't eat much so it was just right for us; however I could eat the full size by myself. So if you wanted to share a meal with someone and both plan on eating a good portion, this may not be possible. Atmosphere: clean and open. Great decor. I could definitely see going here for some drinks and appetizers with friends- they had couches to sit on around a table which was kinda fun. Price: we got the 2 appetizers, 1 beef dish, hot tea and ice tea plus a 20% tip it came to $53.00 - so you decided if that normal, high or low since everyone's thoughts on that is different :) Service: waiter was super attentive and friendly. We are visiting Phoenix and we didn't know where to park. Found a parking lot $2 an hour to park so not bad. I ordered the Pad see ew with seafood and it was excellent. The portion size was about standard but the amount of protein that was provided exceeded other Thai restaurants I have been to! My bf ordered Turmeric coconut chicken and he enjoyed it. Also, I was extremely satisfied with how quick the food came out. The service was on par and the decor is beautiful. Overal, everyone in our group had extremely poor dining experience. I wish there was something positive I could say about our dinner - but there truly wasn't anything good First - the food. It was poorly seasoned (everything had too much salt, and lacking the depth of other flavors you'd expect with Thai food). And most of the food appeared to be store-bought frozen foods. (Orange chicken looked a lot like chicken McNuggets). And the shrimp rolls appetizer had the least amount of shrimp possible (one tiny piece of shrimp buried in a large amour of rice). Second - and worse than the food - was the service. So many issues: waited 15 mins for a server to stop by and welcome us and offer even a glass of water; then, we had to call the waiter over to place our order. After receiving our appetizers, the waiter almost instantly brought an entree, which we asked them to take back until we finished our apps. When we were ready for our entrees, they just left all the appetizers plates and serving dishes piled on our table. But, perhaps the biggest (of many) issues was that they brought entrees for 3 of us, but two of us didn't get our entrees. After waiting more than ten minutes (we had to find our waitress - she never checked on us) to ask about our missing entrees. 10 minutes later, she returned with one of the two missing entrees. And, unbelievably - it was cold! When I asked to have if heated, I was met with a nasty look from the waiter! And we NEVER got our 5th entree. The restaurant did the right thing in the end - they didn't charge for the meal that never was delivered nor for the meal that was cold/late. Given the poor quality of the food and the terrible service - I suggest choosing a different restaurant. read more
