Lori was very rude and unprofessional!!! Not only did she burn me someone knocked on the door as I'm on the table getting a bikini wax, (SHE opened the door who does that it was a man) . I said what are you doing she started it's okay it not like he has not seen it before. I get up and put I clothes on and said you're crazy. Lori she you owe me for half of the waxing , I said no I don't and I will never come back here again. I saw an ad on facebook, promoting their new worker and had a discount to get a pedicure for $10. I obviously took the offer and made an appointment. I showed up, and waited a good 5 minutes to even be talked to, and then sat down and got my nails done. The girl was very nice and did a great job. The girl doing my nails, explained that she was also gonna do manicures, and so she took down my phone number to call when she had started doing manicures. A week or so later, I see the ad on facebook for the manicures, but never got a call. I still decided to make an appointment. My first was scheduled for July 10th at 2:30, and was scheduling with Lori(the owner) on messenger. I then get a text, the next day, the day of my appointment, saying the girl called in sick. Understandable but annoying with my work schedule. Lori apologized and I rescheduled for July 16th at 10am. Everything seems like it's going well, right? Wrong. I show up for my appointment. Sat in the waiting room for 15+ minutes before even getting talked to by Lori. She then goes in the back to get the lady to do my nails. She comes back after 5 minutes, and explains that the lady wasn't there today either. She then apologized and said "you know how teenagers are with attendance!" which i thought was very rude, saying to a customer about an employee. She then took down my name and phone number again, and said she would call me within a day or 2 and give me a free mani-pedi. I agreed and then went home. A few days later, never got a call back. I thought, maybe they were busy, so I waited a few more. I never heard anything. I ended up calling twice in separate days and got sent to the voicemail with a full mailbox. I found Lori to be very rude and unprofessional, and I will not be back. read more

My experience at Zen Salon occurred on 03/09/2019. I bought a Groupon for a full foil highlight. I went into the salon on 03/06/2019 to schedule an appointment for highlights. Luckily, there had been a cancellation for the upcoming Saturday so I was able to get in pretty fast. Naturally my hair is dirty blonde but I color it nearly platinum. Upon arrival on the Saturday (03/09), my stylist Kelli (pronounced KEE-LEE) approached and I followed her back to her chair where I told her that I simply needed my highlights brought up to brighten up my roots. She looked at my hair for maybe 60secs, and said "Okay we can do that", and walked away. *NOTE: In no way am I attacking Kelli as an individual, rather, I am critiquing her professional skill level.* It concerned me slightly that she didn't seem to take much time looking through my hair to analyze the different tones and colors, but I assumed that Kelli was the expert. When she returned with the color, she began applying the color to my hair in a technique I've never seen before. Instead of weaving the highlights into small threads of hair, she was painting my roots in chunks. Further, she was not pulling the color through the entire strand of hair, just applying it to the roots in large chunks. Again, I thought to myself "Oh gosh, what is she doing?", but again disregarded and thought - "She's the expert, maybe it's a new technique I've never seen before". Because I was concerned, I asked Kelli how long she'd been working at Zen Salon - she responded 1 month. (Now I look back and realize how foolish it was that I didn't speak up at this point, but I was trying to give this stylist the benefit of the doubt). After she applied the color to my entire head, she let me process for approximately 20 minutes. She once came to check on the foils and said "You're not there yet, the color is nearly a match, just a few more minutes". At this point, I thought - "Phewf! I was being over-critical, she says my roots are nearly light again!" She led me over to the chair to wash my color out. This is the one positive I can say, she gave an amazing head massage. Once back in the chair, I noticed immediately that my concerns were validated. During blow-drying, when Kelli noticed herself that this was a botched job, she turned me away from the mirror until she finished drying me. Once dry, she said aloud to me "Well, that didn't turn out like I'd hoped" and then spun me around to review the results. As I was analyzing my hair, she began trying to tell me how "chemicals react differently in everyones hair." AND "next time I think we should try to add some low-lights." At this point, I couldn't even begin to understand what she was talking about - WHAT?! Low-Lights?! I'm platinum! I'm confident Kelli knew that this was a botched job- I mean, she said it herself when she commented about the result. Yet, she unbuttoned my gown and led me to the exit. I went immediately into the bathroom to snap a photo. Then, I decided to go home and see really how bad the results were after I styled it myself. Ultimately, I decided I needed to call and have this fixed, so I called on Monday 03/11 to speak with the manager. The poor receptionist who I spoke with (Kayla I think?) was made to play messenger for the entire phone call because the manager would not come to the phone. Kayla asked me if I could come in a few days later to have it fixed. When I told her that I'd like to make sure that the appointment would be scheduled with a more experienced stylist, preferably a stylist who has experience with blonde hair, she said "hang on" (as I sat waiting for her to relay the message to the manager). She came back to the phone "my manager says you have to have Kelli fix your hair and cannot have it fixed by another stylist unless you pay for a new appointment". So I said "Okay, at this point I'd really just like my money back because I'm not comfortable going back to a stylist who has no experience with blonde hair and my experience with her was not great." the receptionist says "hang on"....... after she comes back she says to me, "my manager says we don't offer refunds and if you want it fixed you have to pay for a new appointment". At this point, I was getting frustrated. FIRST: your employee completely botched my hair. SECOND: the manager refuses to come to the phone to speak with a disgruntled customer, THIRD: the manager is making the receptionist relay my conversation to her and still wont come to the phone, and FURTHER: now refuses to fix my hair or offer me a refund. I said to the receptionist, "I am sorry Kayla (name?) and I understand that this is not your fault, but neither of these options work for me and I'm really frustrated. I ask that your manager call me back when she's available." Today is 1 week after that phone call and I've never received a phone call. The entire experience was a complete disappointment. Terrible experiences all that way around. Have been arguing with the owner for months and they don't do anything but blame me that her receptionist messed up on my payment transactions. This was the second time this happened. I would highly recommend NOT going here. If the way the owners argued with me is any induction of how the business is run I'm not shocked it's so terrible. My husband and I went into her workplace to work out the situation, after I spoke with a lawyer. He suggested to go in and work it out. Lori refused to cooperate. This salon is very unprofessional and should not even be in business. I received 2 gift certificates from my cancer benefit for this salon and anyone who goes through chemo knows it takes quite awhile for your hair to grow back or before you feel up to being pampered etc. The certificates had barely expired and they refused to honor them even after I explained the situation. Scheduled my hair appointment over a week ago. Told them I was using my Groupon. All set. Got up the day of my appointment (9/18), took a shower and went to my appointment. After a 15 minute wait, I finally was brought back by my stylist. She asked me what I wanted done and I told her I was using the Groupon for a cut and color. She looked confused and said she was gonna ask up front who the Groupon was with. Now I was confused. I told them when I called that I was using the Groupon. She came back and apologized and said that the Groupon could only be used with Taylor. So I sat there, probably mouth wide open, just in pure disbelief ... and I reiterated, " I told them when I called that I was using the Groupon." Again, she apologized and she took me back up front to reschedule. The front desk girls apologized, as they took my name and number and said they'd have Taylor call me to set up the appointment. I had taken off from work to go to that appointment and have nothing to show for it. It is now the end of Day 4 and still no phone call from Taylor or the salon. I contacted Groupon and they let me trade my Groupon for Zen Salon for a different Groupon (which I did). Never again will I tolerate that kind of treatment. read more

Very poor customer service. Bought a massage certificate for my husband off of Groupon. We did not print out the certificate, as 1/3 of the page clearly says "save a tree, skip the paper and redeem from the Groupon app" Well when my husband went for the appointment, the extremely rude lady at the desk refused him service, saying he needed it printed out!!! There was NO mention of this in the fine print, or when the appointment was scheduled, or later when the appointment was confirmed over the phone. So I ended up having to print it and rush to the salon for him to keep his appointment. My husband also said the rooms were disgusting!!! The sheets covering the massage bed were extremely worn, faded, clearly not cleaned very well, and probably not even changed between customers. The spot where you place your face, was extremely dirty and full of makeup and mascara. God only know what else was on those sheets that he couldn't see!!!! I should have known they have terrible service, because of the deal I got on Groupon, which was for 2 massages. Any place with good service, would not need to run a deal like this!!!! Needless to say, my husband was so disgusted with how dirty things were, he has refused to use the 2nd massage that I already paid for and will not get a refund on!!! Yes, Zen Salon looked very clean and professional. That's about all the nice comments I can make about this salon though. The customer service is the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a salon. I made two nail appointments for me and a friend to get our nails done for about an hour in advance. We go in and only one girl is available, the other girl that was at reception said, "I want to go home I don't have time to do your nails". It was 6pm and they say they close at 9pm. Then the whole time you could hear her and a few other workers in the back chatting their hearts out. The owner also does not act professional with customers or her workers. I scheduled 2 massages for noon on 1/30/21 back in December 2020. When I got the confirmationon 1/29/21 for only 1 massage, I called about it. No one answered so I left a message and emailed - no response. One I called again, she was extremely rude and said I had a noon and a 1:15 appt. She was extremely rude, and .unprofessional. When I arrived at 11:50 am on 1/30/21, no one came out to greet me until 12:08 pm - when I demanded a refund, she would not refund my money then texted me later that I was a no show. My daughter and I went here on Tuesday, March 13 for mani pedi's with Charlie. It was the most awkward uncomfortable experience ever. Charlie was very rude and made a lot of comments to my daughter (who is 19) that were quite personal and inappropriate. I sent an email to the salon expressing my displeasure and did not receive any type of response. I am especially disappointed in the lack of customer service...in an industry where there are so many options in Appleton for a mani pedi you would think that they would want a positive review but clearly that is not the case here. I would never recommend this salon and instead will go out of my way to let people know to choose somewhere else. read more

I wanted to try a new salon for a massage so I used a coupon offered by Zen Salon in Appleton. I have had one other massage during this pandemic at a different salon so I was comfortable with the Covid safety protocols. When I arrived everyone had on a mask in the waiting/boutique area. I met Tanya and had an average massage (meaning I could tell she was new at this profession but it was fine), all the while assuming she was wearing a mask. At the end of my massage and she was leaving the room, I opened my eyes and discovered she had no mask on. After I dressed, I went to the counter to pay and shared my distress about this. Tanya apologized several times and said "they" had even given her one that she was to wear. An employee next to her said "well we aren't perfect"! There was a third woman who I assumed to be the owner, never acknowledged my feelings or apologized or tried to make it right. I replied "we are in a pandemic, what do you mean you forgot???" and "how do I know if you are safe or sick?" They all just shrugged. I said please do not do this to any other customer ever. They all were uncomfortable and unprofessional and I left feeling sad about my whole experience. I was sad that I hadn't asked and made certain I was safe. For that, I take full responsibility. But Zen's lack of care for the customer says a lot about this place and I will never go back, nor recommend it. read more

She made it seem like an inconvenience that I was using the Groupon that I purchased. If you don't want people to use a Groupon...don't sell them. I appreciated the text message confirming my appointment. I got tied up in a project the day of the appointment and called 3 hours ahead of time to cancel. I got a lecture from the same woman about cancellation etiquette. I agree that I should've given 24 hours notice. However, I've been to nail places. There are constant walk-ins. I'm sure they filled my spot. Also, she never suggested I reschedule. I don't think I will. It's unfortunate that they get my Groupon money but not sure it's worth it to go there. I'm leaving this review intending that it will help people go into this salon with fair expectations. I've gotten to the point with Zen that it's just sort of a joke within my family. First of all, if you call Zen, 100% no one is going to answer the phone. You can leave a message and there is about a 50% chance that they will call you back, and if they do it will be hours/days later. When you walk into Zen there will be no one at the counter to help you so you will wait in one of the very very worn chairs in the front. At some point someone will see you. Half of the times I've been there has been a mistake with my appointment. My BEST advice to you. Do not get your nails done here- it's trash. I have been a few times for a massage because with a Groupon it's so cheap. You totally get what you pay for here- horrible, I mean horrible customer service. Incredibly unprofessional employees who talk about other customers and have no idea what's going on at the salon or who's booked when. I almost feel bad for the salon because it's such a s*** show. The only reason I continue to go is because the actual massages I have gotten (once I can finally get an appointment and make it through the dreaded reception process) are good. But please, put your expectations on the floor going into this or you will probably be disappointed. read more

This Salon is messed up. Lack of communication. Misquoted fees for services. I was told my services would be $49. Went to check out and told my fee was $120. Insinuated that I was making up the quoted fee because the receptionist neglected to enter into the system the quote given to me. Extremely unprofessional! Over-processed my color to black -rather than rich red. Didn't blow dry, nor style my hair. Very arrogant. Threatened to call the police. Worst experience ever! Never to return. Also was told that there was NO ONE else I could go to because she's her own boss. I'm not stopping there. Oh, and she said she'd go down to $90. I just looked at my bank account -she charged $110! For a $49.00 quote. I would have never made the appointment if I were quoted that amount. I simply cannot afford it. So wrong on so many levels. Went in today to ask to talk to Lori, the Owner. Was told she wasn't there. The receptionist came back with the sociopath stylist, Jennifer, who I had to deal with already negatively. She says. I don't know what to do for you Lori's not here today. So, I had to prompt with -what about tomorrow, this week? Took my name and # and I told her that I didn't trust that she'd give it to Lori. Worst customer service ever, receptionists (3 different ones) were all incredibly rude and unprofessional. I tried to schedule a massage and was told I had to call back Monday (it was Thursday) to see if the therapist would allow it. They left a message asking me to call back and when I did they said I needed to call back later. I tired calling several times and the phone just rang, the one time I got an answering machine it said it was full. I was so Disappointed in the customer service I cancelled my massage and the receptionist didn't even care. Business isn't ran like this, I couldn't even experience decent customer service before my massage bed occurred. Having a variety of different services, I can tell you that the salon is well run and extremely organized. If you read other posts and see that people had a bad experience, it is generally for a bigger issue.....just saying! While in town for the weekend for the AWSC Workshop...I won a product gift basket w/a gift certificate from one of the drawings. So early this morning I called to see if I could possibly get in to use the certificate. I was thinking a nail service for myself or possible Up-do for my significant other's daughter for the pagent later today. Before I called I tried to find a website with info for Zen Salon...and nothing! No hours / no prices / no services / no employee specialty...NO NOTHING! Their FB page isn't even detailed. All I found was bad reviews or to book a service. So I called only go get some rude chic who was very short with me on the phone. Told me their hours are "basically" 9-3. And that Clarrisa isn't in. And that was it! Nothing like "our hours are 9-3 today and tomorrow from such and such" or " sorry Clarissa is not in today but she could see you Tuesday..etc". No wonder the bad reviews!! And knowing the circumstance I am in town just for the weekend..not even a " sorry for the inconvience...or I could book you with so and so instead...or you are welcome to stop in and use so much of the gift certificate towards product." I have worked in places that would have gone the extra mile to get me to walk in the door today! Apparently not here. I get there are rules/policies/etc. And didn't expect any special treatment...but the chic answering the phone is not helping the business/Clarissa/situation either. And I am guessing there will be a few others disappointed they are not going to be able to use the services they won from the drawing. I used one of the coupons for cut and color. The lady assigned to me was very inexperienced. I wanted the same color I had on, when she saw my roots she said "no let's go dark, I'm afraid your roots won't go that light." Which later I realized that's not true as the roots are virgen hair. Anyways, I requested a refund as the ombre done on my hair was horrible. The manager said no way but I could come back so they can fix it. So went to have it fixed with the same inexperienced girl. During the appt I felt so uncomfortable as this stylist kept asking another stylist what to do. I said I didn't feel comfortable as they wanted to stripped my hair to achieve the color I had before which it made sense as my hair was so dark. But at that point I was already not feeling it and asked for a refund. Was told NO, was yelled at, etc. Worst experience ever! I'm giving 2 starts instead of 1 after messaging back and forth with the manager expressing how upset I was and that I wanted my money back, she mentioned that a stylist with a hair type close to mine offered to fix my color but at that point I already changed the color myself. read more

I called a few weeks later to see if there were any earlier openings and without hesitation of looking at a schedule, she said no and hung up. I have already contacted Groupon to get a refund. I've heard bad things from other people but decided to try it anyway. And i see now what they mean. My stylist didn't know how to property lighten my hair. I've had stylists highlight my hair dozens of times with no issue - my natural color is a light brown, so it's not that difficult. However, she tried to make it blonde without bleaching it (she said she didn't want to damage my hair - how do you lighten hair without bleaching??). Anyway, it turned into a mustard yellow color. I gave her another chance, and I went back the following week to see if she could attempt to lighten it more and get the gold out, but again, mustard yellow. I left frustrated, and I ended up buying a box of dye and coloring it dark brown on my own. It looks 100% better than what she did to it, but I had to waste $55 for the salon trip, and $10 for the box dye. Never again! read more

I was considering using this salon for my upcoming wedding until I experienced their extremely poor quality of work and terrible customer service as a bridesmaid. My makeup had to be redone by another MUA, and honestly, I would've been2 better off doing my own makeup. Additionally, the customer service that the bride received was absolutely appalling. The owner refusing to contact the bride about the contract and services rendered?? What kind of business are they running? Extremely disappointed and I WON'T be using them for my own wedding. As for my friends getting married in the Appleton area, I've warned them against using Zen Salon. read more
