Zen is pretty new to Montebello, have been to their other location in the past and was excited when I heard they were opening another. I got my gel-x done by Anna for $75 and she was great! She was very nice and gentle. She paid close attention to detail on my nails even though they were a solid color. The salon is big and every time I come it is kept clean and organized. The lady who greeted me at the door was pleasant. She went over the cost to remove my gel polish, which she said would be soaked first then gel removed. She put me with one of the name techs who really didn't listen to me. She immediately brought out her drill and had it on full blast. It hurt me terribly and I let her know. I also said aren't you going to soak them? Again, not sure what was going on. I just stopped my service, paid and left. I wanted to get a fresh gel polish but just wasn't confident in the her. Won't be going back. All my natural nails were damaged after this appointment and my natural pinky nail is red and tissue paper thin. Me and my cousin were walk ins and understood we had to wait which we were fine with since the receptionist said we would be serviced soon. We wanted to do acrylic because it was the most affordable option from the prices they had posted. We also wanted designs, I wanted stripes, my cousin wanted some flowers. We believed that they were able to do these designs because on their Instagram, they have photos of difficult designs they had done. So after waiting 20 min a lady comes and ask us to show her the designs we wanted. My cousin showed her the design she wanted and the lady said she can not do it. She then ask to see my design and I showed her and she said she was able to do my design. I then tell her I wanted acrylic and then she says "oh" and then walked to another women and takes her instead. I was confused at first because she said she was able to do my design but didnt want to take me cause I wanted acrylic? The receptionist then told us because our designs were more difficult that we would have to wait for two other nail techs that were able to do it. We were hesitant to wait but he reassured us that they would be done soon. So after waiting another 30 minutes, one of the nail techs took my cousin to do her nails since he agreed and said he was able to do the design. When she sat down, she said she wanted acrylic. He proceeds to question her on why she wanted acrylic and pushed for her to do gel X. After telling him that she wanted acrylic because of the pricing, he said that the gel x and acrylic would be the same price. She then tells him she wants acrylic because she doesnt like gel X nails. He then tells her that acrylic takes more time and is harder to shape. He basically complains about doing a service that he is getting paid for. After being persistent he finally does the acrylic and while doing her set, he tells her that hes going to take his lunch break. She was baffled as was I since we've never experienced a nail tech stopping mid service to take a lunch break. I finally get to sit in a chair for service after and extra 30 minutes of waiting. I show my nail tech the design and she was able to do it however she asked me do you want gel x or acrylic. I then asked her which one would be more affordable. She then tells me that if I do gel x she would give me a $10 discount for my design since she was going to charge me $50 for just the design alone. I just agreed since I was getting the discount. She was able to do my nails nice and was kind however, I was already frustrated with how they were treating my cousin and the $50 charge for stripes that I was just ready to leave. My cousin ended up not doing her design cause she knew the man was gonna half ass it and was over all of it as well. We just paid and left. There were also people who had got there right after us and were still waiting after we left. I understand if they are busy and unable to get services done in a timely manner, but my issue was the receptionists telling people that they could service them and to just wait a little. If you can not do walk ins, don't do walk ins. If you can not take people, tell them that you are busy. By telling people you can take them even though there are already so many people waiting, just makes the business look bad. Maybe I should've went on another day or set up an appointment to have a better experience but the experience my cousin and I had was unacceptable. The only good thing about this place is that they serve alcohol which they especially push on the clients in order to relieve their frustration. I will not be coming here again. read more

I used to be a regular at their Upland location and had perfect nails every time! I recently moved to LA so I wanted to try out their Montebello location. I unfortunately left with the worst French tip gel mani I've ever received. These pictures were taken 2 hours after my service. Cons: My French tip came out extremely uneven (lumps where the polish is thicker in some places), my French tip is patchy and very uneven, my nails are jagged, nail shape on my left hand is not a true almond/pretty rounded. Pros: Beautiful and very clean salon. Nail techs are friendly and they have so many colors to choose from. Great prices. I've been to Zen Lounge a few times before, including their Upland location, and I've never had an experience like this, which is why this stood out to me. I came in for a very simple fix, just one nail. I checked in, let them know I didn't have an appointment, and was told to wait. I was flexible about who could help me and even mentioned that anyone available could fix it since I just needed something quick. While I was waiting, the front desk staff came back and asked me to pay up front before any service. I want to be clear, it wasn't the idea of paying that bothered me. Of course, I expected to pay. It was the tone and the assumption behind the request that didn't sit right with me. I was literally holding my wallet and had given no indication that I wouldn't pay. What made it more uncomfortable was that this has never been my experience here before. I've visited a couple of times and have never been asked to pay in advance for a small service or any service, for that matter. So it felt inconsistent and honestly a bit off-putting. After that interaction, I decided to leave. It just didn't feel welcoming or respectful in that moment. And on then, at that point, when I was walking out the door, the same front desk member was like, Oh, well, if it's been less than seven days or within seven days, you know, it's free to fix the nail. Now, mind you, this location is very equipped to see when the last time you came in here and things like that. So I just find it weird that she didn't just do that to begin with before even asking me about paying for the nail. And mind you, it had been seven days. I had came in here last Thursday to get my nails done. And I tried coming in another day before, but they were busy. And so I'm coming in today. But again, I wasn't under the impression of needing to pay or not pay or anything like that. I feel like everyone is entitled to be, you know, to pay, to be paid for their work. Nonetheless, I'm sharing this because I've had better experiences here in the past and I hope this was just a one-off situation. But how customers are approached and spoken to really matters, especially over something that could have been communicated differently. read more

First timer to this new nail salon. Amazing professional friendly service. And uber clean. They use one-time use equipment, so nothing nasty here. Very attentive to hygiene, which i appreciate. Ask for "T " who did my deluxe pedicure, and Selina who did my deluxe manicure. Both were a big thumbs up for the quality of their work. Also they both were great communicators and friendly. Also if you do t want to talk, they are cool with that, lovely friendly people...and helpful. T explained the details of the Deluxe pedicure and asked for permission ...or he checked in with me periodically to see if i was fine with the level of massage pressure or he'd asked if the paraffin, the towels were too hot or not....he's working on his finance degree, so you can only ask for him weekends. He even uses a timer and makes sure he gives a full 8 minutes of the promised calf/foot massage....he even noticed I had the start of an ingrown toe nail and he eased it out of the nail bed with little to no pain or blood. Both T and Selina are very knowledgeable about nail health and can advise. They also are on top of the trends. Selina worked magic with my cracking peeling short nails, and with my dry hands. I couldn't believe how soft and restored my wrinkly dry old lady hands...she did a great hand massage which helped my arthritic fingers. i mean i had all kinds of dry skin peeling atound my nails.. .she really performed a miracle ...by the way, both T and Selina also have great painting skillz....I don't know how they manage to apply polish so smoothly in a chair tha'ts vibrating. I'm really pleased. I highly recommend them, also I highly recommend doing the paraffin for feet and hands. Makes a big difference to restore moisture and get a more youthful appearance. Selina recommends the hot wax twice a week. DefinItely I'll be back then ...but maybe sooner to do an eyebrow and lip wax. TIP: At the register, you can have the cashier, Zelle your manicurist/pedicurist. no cash necessary. Also this place gives a 10 percent discount if it's your birthday, which the cashier applied bec my bday is in a few days. But I always tip 20 percent based off the original total. Oh-- and I was a walk in on a Friday around 4 pm and was seated in a massage chair right away. So I got lucky. I'm told mornings are less busy...duly noted....but walk ins are accomodated easily or make an appt. So happy I tried Zen Nails. Now to get my mom here. read more

This is an overdue (and detailed, UPDATED) review for Zen Nail Lounge and my new favorite nail tech, Anna. After some salon-shopping in the area, I've been coming here pretty much since they opened. Anna is the third person I've worked with here, and she has been fantastic - very meticulous. Anna is a very talented and patient nail artist who is unafraid and willing to experiment with you on creating different looks and trying new techniques, and I'm excited to be working with her from here on out. The first time I sat with her, I did a one-color to see how it went... Excellent. The 2nd and 3rd time we did two colors, and then 4th and 5th time we did some of my favorite nails I've had in YEARS... multi-layer ombré chrome flame nails (these got me one million compliments and still looked good a full month later), and my current set, which are a cat eye with their own individual little metallic accessories. Looking forward to what we dream up next. Photos uploaded are my flame nails when I first got them, and how good they still look a month later, and then the accessorized cat eye nails I walked out with afterwards. These sets cost me about $100/120 +tip, but that's fine with me for the sitting time, and for the month's worth of daily dopamine hits and random conversation starters. :) If you are seeking high quality nail artistry, ask for Anna! I'm so pleased with her flexibility and skill. (The green nail photos were from previous tech. I'm not sure why the photos are out of order on here - oh well.) Side note for families: while I was getting my new set w Anna, another tech worked on two little girls who had to be like 7-10 years old, and both girls and their mom had smiles that took up their whole faces. Her nail tech then pulled down her mask and looked at me annoyed and said "we can do everything here" haha I was like whoah okay I guess I'm the only one here who can't get it. 10 minutes later they are cutting my friends nails and explaining to her that they don't do fills on gel x My pedicure cost $40 and I feel like they didn't even scrub my feet at all I'm used to seeing some nasty stuff and some lotions and fun stuff but yeah, they didn't even offer me any tier to upgrade. They didn't have 3 colors that my friend and I chose so we had to choose other colors... like how ?? They have a whole room full of polish and they're a new business There's this lady who comes around trying to hustle massage services, it was giving goudy Honda car salesman I was told they offered champagne, we had to ask for it lol Okay and lastly, my nail tech was like $10 more, cuticle $15 more, French tip $5 more etc the whole time, I hate that. Then to top it off she says "for my tip, can you pay Zelle or Venmo" and proceeds to pull out a laminated QR code. I was still on the chair ! lol Overall, I know what to expect and I'd go again if I realllllly needed to because they did a good job, I mean I would have preferred a more satisfying scrub pedicure but it was good enough. I called them back, meanwhile I'm already parking. They called to tell me that the nail stylist that I reserved won't be able to do my nails right away since they're short staffed. He picked up another costumer so the lady told me it'll be a 30 minutes wait. She did not ask if that was okay with me, she was direct. I told here I was already parked so she told me to come inside. I went inside and she had me sit at his station and told me he'll be 5 minutes. She completely lied to me. She had every intention on making me wait until he was done with the other woman. I felt disrespected. I also felt as if my time wasn't valuable. I was clear when I communicated to them that I was on a strict schedule which is why I couldn't wait 30 minutes. Which is why I reserved in advance for specifically 10am and the nail stylist. I would understand if I was 10 minutes late but I arrived at 10:03 with an advanced notice.
