Che bella ristorante! A beautiful experience from start to finish. Alberto and his mother were extremely attentive hosts. I felt like a guest in their home. The wine recommendations paired beautifully with my meal. I had truffle ravioli as a primo piatto. It was delicate but flavorful and beautifully done. My secondo was slow cooked beef and eggplant parmasean. Zero complaints there, other than that I was so full from the ravioli that I couldn't finish it. If I never eat another meal before heading home, I can feel content that I enjoyed the ultimate Tuscan experience. My wife and I went here at the recommendation of a couple friends who went a few months prior. It's a very nice and small little restaurant, which isn't too far from the tourist areas. The owner and the owner's mother were great hosts. You can really tell they take great pride in their work with the quality of food they make. The mother was often checking in to make sure we were happy customers throughout the meal. This is probably the best meal that we had during our stay in Italy. read more

This is an excellent place to go for lunch if you are traveling alone. Customers are seated on either side of the center area displaying all the food prepared for the day. The service feels very personal and the servers take care to make sure you are getting a quality experience. For lunch they offer two courses with a variety of options for each. I had the panzanella for the first course, a Tuscan bread salad, which was delicious. For my second course, I had a cod carpaccio garnished with these delectable little red peppercorns. Loved this place. Owner was so nice and helpful. Opened a bottle of wine for us and sniffed the cork and then even took a little sip before serving us when he was unsure about the cork. I had the spaghetti covered in slices of truffles followed by a traditional Tuscan beef dish with wine and lots of peppercorns. My daughter had a ravioli dish followed by meatballs. Everything was delicious. No negatives but only 4 stars because I'm keeping 5s for the unbelievably exceptional. Loved this place and highly recommend it. read more

Sorry...but after having some great meals with friendly service a short walk from our hotel, Zeb, displayed a condescending attitude when we first sat down. The blackboard menu was difficult to see and informed us about the first course pastas. He paused to take our order and appeared annoyed when my wife asked about second course items. "You are not hungry?"he responded. Then he listed them, but by then I admit I felt unwelcome, so l paid for our water and left. The food was probably very good...you judge! read more

This is a great spot. Came here on a recommendation and were not disappointed. Open on Eater which was a nice surprise. The food concept is a bit different. A large variety of daily choices. This is a hidden gem. Very limited space, with excellent service. We were lucky to get in tonight (Saturday) without a reservation. Everyone sits at a bar-like table, so it's a good way to meet new people, or keep to yourself. This is high end cuisine at very reasonable prices and wines to match. We had wine (glass of local red with main and a Muscato with desert). I had three courses, my wife two and the bill was under 70 euro. The best meal we have had in Italy so far! The mother and son chef and owners duo were utterly charming and friendly. We loved the entire experience and it was a perfect place for our grown daughters and all of their diverse palates. Pasta with black truffles and the bolognese were standouts but you can't pick just one exemplary dish as all were special! If we lived here this would be my neighborhood spot! I can't say enough good things about the meal and the dining experience at Zeb. I made reservations via email before my trip and was seated promptly at the window upon arrival. Alberto walks you through your options, as the only menu for the day is on a chalkboard - he changes it up based on what's fresh. I started with cappellacci stuffed with cheese and truffles - YUM. I was pretty full from the first course but really wanted to try one of the secondo options, so Alberto offered to prepare a half order. That was when I had the best meatballs I've ever had in my life, and I have had a RIDICULOUS number of meatballs - they're one of my favorite foods. The texture of that meat was incredible and defied logic, and the flavor was so intense and delicious! Pacing of the meal was perfect, the flavors were perfect - it was an amazing night. Terrible experience. I lived in Florence for almost a year and was always very impressed with the hospitality and kindness of the people. But Zeb was nothing but cold and really dampened my husband's first night and experience in Florence. We called to make 8:30 reservations and when we arrived the place was quite crowded. After waiting almost five minutes without anyone so much as saying hello, I finally flagged down the one waiter and checked in. He then brought the owner and the owners mother over, and we were told that the reservation was for 9. That was not true but fine, we said we would go get a drink, but it was odd that the mother kept insisting that our reservation was at 9 rather than just apologizing and that being the end of it. When we returned, we again waited a long time even though the mother and son clearly saw us standing there and finally I had to ask the son roughly what timer w could be seated. I was greet with attitude and extreme rudeness. Then when my husband and I turned to leave he kept shouting "why" loudly, attracting the attention of the other customers, and embarrassing us. I am sure the food is good but when you have limited nights in a city you want good and kind service too, and Zeb does not have that. Absolutely do not recommend. read more

Came to Zeb because it came to the top of the list, had a 4.5 rating and a 2 Euros price range. Customers are seated on wooden high chairs behind a counter and offered water, wine by the glass, a pasta first course and a second course from dishes behind the counter. We had the ravioli with pumpkin and poppy seeds. It had an incredibly rich sauce and is really good. The pasta was chewy. We chose the chicken rolls and the rabbit. The chicken came with pancetta and was quite good. I thought the rabbit was a bit salty. All of the food was prepared with a European flair for presentation and elegance. The service is very relaxed and it took over and hour and one half to complete the bread and wine appetizer, the two courses and the dessert. (Grandmother's pie). If you expect to pay less than 28 euros per person for what was described, or want a quick meal to continue sight-seeing--this is not for you. As others have explained, there are no English menus, but the chef/owner did take the time to explain and re-explain the offerings. Just a note, the entry for Zebs, contained "soup", but no soup was offered, or available. Item availability changes daily, hence what you see pictured is not necessarily what you can get. read more

We just returned from two weeks and Italy. Thanks to Yelp we found this amazing restaurant. The first course in Italy is pasta and the raviolis are nothing less than outstanding. II had the pear ravioli and I can honestly say I haven't had anything that fantastic...ever. My husband had the squash blossom that was just as delicious. The chef was gracious to pair the "right" wines with our food. It truly was a dining experience and the chefs Mom was delightful. Reading the reviews about the chef's lack of hospitality made me want eat there (all I could think of was the Seinfeld soup nazi episode)and I understand why he isn't overly friendly. He is passionate about serving you food that he loves and providing a different experience than what you will receive in your standard restaurant. There is no menu, no wine list he instead explains each dish along as describe what you will taste when you take your first bite and then pair the perfect wine to go along with your meal. We LOVED this restaurant and the chef and will be back on our next return to Florence. read more

I found this place on Yelp, and decided to go there based on all the delicious-looking photos of the food. We made a reservation two hours before we came, and it turns out that this is very important because the place only seats about 20 people. But man, was I pleasantly surprised! My family and I had the most extraordinary experience. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, the wine great, and the portions perfect, but the entire atmosphere of the place was modern and very relaxing (a rarity, especially in Italy). I recommend going at around 9 to 9:30, there are less people and locals start showing up later to avoid the crowd. I noticed the place seemed to attract pleasant tourists, instead of obnoxious, camera carrying, back-packing ones like other restaurants. The place is run my a mother and her son, and they couldn't have been nicer. The Via San Niccolo is the coolest little neighborhood at night. There are 8 or 9 other bars/restaurants around Zeb, and we will definitely go back to the area and try another place. It's right near the old city wall too, which is huge and gave me the sense that I was protected. Very quaint, lively, and Italian. All in all, a great meal and even better experience. Why spend your money on a cheap souvenir that will end up in the yard sale bin when you can spend your money on a memorable experience that you'll keep forever? read more

The owners and chefs, a mother and son duo, are so wonderfully passionate about their food and their restaurant - you can tell this food is made with love. The fit out is very contemporary and cool. Diners sit at a bar/bench, overlooking the display of food on offer. I highly recommend the pumpkin ravioli, all hand made, for the first course. For something lighter, try the pesto tagliatelle.
