Perfect vibe for a low key relaxed breakfast. Made to order, the menu is on the marker board to right when you walk in. I recommend getting there early, it picks up by mid-morning. Hot Dogs is what they do here and they have a special way that works great for them. Located across from St. Augustine beach in a small shopping area. My wife and I both ordered one hot dog and split the order of fries. First they slice the dog length wise, grill it with a weight on top of it. Kinda flatten's it a little bit. They have the perfect shaped bun for it also. Add their special ketchup & mustard, along with onions, mayo, & sweet relish. And presto, a killer hot dog! Drinks are self served, small cooler in the corner. I should mention that they also serve breakfast. So if you're interested in early eats, this might work for you. Back to the dogs. They tasted great! Very reasonable price too. Our lunch came to about twelve bucks even. Two cold drinks, 2 big hot dogs, and one order of fries. Perfect lunch at the beach. So, if you're into hot dogs, ( like I 'am), give Zaba's a go. You're love it. read more

[UPDATED] A hole in the wall off the main drag, Zaba's does the job for a quick bite and a cup of coffee. The gentleman who greeted us was friendly and welcoming. Very tacky and eclectic decor. Not my thing, but at least they're consistent. Very cramped seating. The Costa Rican dark roast was a typical everyday cup, step above gas station coffee. Simple breakfast sandwiches with Kraft singles. I'm giving 3 stars for the sincere effort, but nothing about my experience impressed me; its was just... awkward and okay. I'd rather head to the Kookaburra just down the road. Would not recommend. UPDATE: I appreciate the owners follow up to my review. I've read his responses to other customers who rate his business less than satisfactory... I'm all for the chance to make it right but it looks unprofessional to quarrel or do the "sorry, but..." when people are taking the time and effort to give their subjective opinion in a review. It's not about wanting to go somewhere fancy. Zaba's lacks branding and presentation fundamentals and its confusing to a consumer. "Cheap attempt" is the only thing that comes to mind. It's a simple choice really. With all due respect, folks give away 5 stars too easily. Kookaburra is a clear 5 star coffee shop, and especially when considering your options in the area. Kookaburra has better coffee, better atmosphere, better branding, better parking, better location, better outdoor seating, and roast their coffee themselves. Kookaburra's staff was just as friendly. They excelled in the art of brewing coffee. Side by side there was no way I could rate Zaba's 5 star too. If you're going to make it to only one coffee shop in St. Augustine, go to Kookaburra or even Relámpago Coffee Lab. read more

This place is the kind of place you want to be a regular at. No frills and no shiny, chain-restaurant feel to it. What I really liked about this spot was how simple it was - and you still got excellent service and good food to go with it. I came on a Saturday morning, and was warmly greeted by the cashier. He knew that my friends and I were new, so he gave us plenty of recommendations. There are plenty of simple breakfast and lunch options with some interesting choices (i.e grilled doughnut). We all ordered the "Morning Sunshine" breakfast bowl, which I recommend if it's your first time. Mine came with hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, and all mixed in with savory gravy. It comes in a to-go cup, so it's perfect for when you're on the go. I also ordered a strawberry banana smoothie, which tasted really sweet and refreshing. The space is small with limited seating on the inside (plenty outside the space), so it wouldn't be ideal for large parties unless you're planning on taking it to-go. However, it's a great a place to hang-out with a friend or two and catch-up. The place has a great local beach vibe to it. The service was phenomenal. As I mentioned, we were warmly greeted by the cashier who even gave us recommendations for our first time. Throughout the meal he checked on us and made sure we were enjoying the food. If you're heading to the beach for the day, I would recommend Zaba's to get your day started. read more

This place is by far one of the best, most friendly, and inexpensive breakfast places at St. Augustine. Whenever i'm in town, I ALWAYS go to Zaba's for breakfast! The workers were very friendly when we came in and helped us look through the menu. The place is small so it's not best for big families but it's a great small coffee shop for a quick breakfast. This place was a cute little local gem we stumbled upon! I loved how tiny and chill it was and they make a pretty darn good Salted Caramel Iced Latte! The food was good, I would definitely return to have another one of their awesome Garlic Grilled Cheese and to try the Grilled Pb&j. My girlfriend was bummed they didn't have pancakes so definitely check the menu out before you go as it is limited or just stop in for some coffee! Their prices were super cheap which was nice and the two guys working there were sweet surfer looking guys that were very accommodating. In a town that offers no caffeine just chew, this place is a godsend but don't say god too loosely around here. Anyway, driving along the beach area and in need of a jolt I went into this truly funky joint. So think a mixing of Dukes of Hazzard meets the Haight. The folks could not be more friendly as they are drinking their Bud's while making me a solid Americano. Also, the patrons are also part of the charm. The food looked fine too, with the help of a George Foreman Grill, a Black and Decker toaster over and an Amana ice box! I mean, it is old home week and I am sure I could have gotten a joint if I was the type but I'm not. This place is not to be missed as there is more charm than the Ripley's in town. Happily found based on other yelpers. Terrific food and service! Breakfast bagel and morning SUNSHINE bowl was perfect. We split a grilled doughnut...and...and...ahhhhh ! Coffee choices were also a plus. I don't mind eating off of paper and styro if the extra mile in food quality is there and we were so pleased. My only suggession is is with the free ice water...a simple filter would be a GREAT improvement to St. Augustine city water;) ...which is overly chlorinated and who knows what else the St. Johns county utility department does to what we drink, cook, and shower with,..but I am not a fan of the water here. read more

The breakfast sandwiches were simple but on point! I had to order a second sandwich, it was THAT good. The iced coffee was made to order and customized to your liking. They had a nice variety of flavors if you're into iced coffee. My wife had the double expresso shot. Again great coffee. My wife loved the home made mustard sauce that much, that she had to buy one. Definitely worth the try! But what complimented the food was the clean, chill, home like vibe of the place. The service was exceptional! We stopped in here for a quick breakfast. We were on vacation from Connecticut and looking for something simple but still unique and special on our last day here. At first I did not know if it was quite what we were looking for. It looked very basic and not quite a place where I would have a memorable experience, but rather a very simple place for a quick bite on the go. Looks certainly were deceiving. The inside is small and seating for more than 2-3 is basically impossible. Outside there is a spot right by some palm trees which I believe could fit 6. We sat outside and it was great because it was in the shade of the palm trees and there was a nice ocean breeze. I ordered the morning sunshine bowl. It was fantastic. I had some of their red sauce which was unique. Sweet and spicy with a thick consistency. I actually got a bottle of it to go. Apparently down south people have gravy with their breakfast. It's funny because in 31 years I have never had that before but now I know what I have been missing. I also got a grilled doughnut. Never tried that before. It sure was a treat. This place seems like it is run by some guys who are absolutely genuine southerners, not some people who just moved here. I like that. We tried to hit the local small businesses as much as possible while avoiding the chain places. I know to people local it might sound odd but living way up in CT and never coming down this way I thoroughly enjoy all the small differences with language, accents, and food. I'm so glad we found this place. This last stop on our trip was icing on the cake for the vacation and I am now a fan of my biscuits and gravy. read more

This little gem is reminiscent of the way beach towns used to be. When you first walk in the small size is a little surprising but you quickly realize that is part of the charm. The two gentlemen that run the entire operation are soft spoken and kind. The first day we stopped in their credit card machine was not working so the offered to just comp the meal. We were not about to stiff these guys so we rummaged through the car and found our emergency cash. When it didn't cover the meal plus the hot sauce my husband had originally planned to purchase they called it even. The next morning I woke up craving their delicious coffee and wholesome breakfast sandwich. Day two was just as delicious and the prices can't be beat. We were in search of a quick and easy breakfast spot and found good reviews for Zaba. When you walk in it's a very homey feel as if you are in somebody's kitchen. The staff was pleasant and the service was really quick. Most importantly the food... it was one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had! I got an egg and cheese on an everything bagel, simple but it was extremely yummy. The coffee was amazing also!!! Great spot. You won't be disappointed.
