Took my parents here when they first came into town and they've been back at least 5 times on theory own in the last 10 days. Food is really fresh and delicious and pretty reasonably priced. Will definitely be back soon! read more

Loved this place for soooo long! Everything here is great with fabulous value. I have told my friends and family about this place for a long time and they all have enjoyed! Unfortunately today, August 16, 2024 my wife and I came in for lunch and had the following experience. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup as I have absolutely loved this soup for so long. I found it to be horrendously awful, probably the worst chicken tortilla soup I've ever had! Did the recipe change? Is there a new chef? I was so disappointed as I anyways look forward to this soup. My wife ordered a patty melt with the meat "medium well" she got a flavorless patty melt that was very pink in the middle that she didn't eat a lot of it and pulled out all the very pink meat and placed it on her plate for the server to see. We never received drink refills and our server seemed over worked Sad to say it will be a while before we come back as it was always a meal that we both looked forward to before. Again, maybe it was a different chef working today, but the meal was simply horrible. read more

We went for brunch and had a great experience. Hidden gem in Bonsall for sure! This was my second time dining here and can't wait to come back. I ordered the chicken and waffles & wow... the picture I took doesn't do it justice. Everyone at my table loved their own meal, but definitely wished they ordered mine! Chicken had great flavor and crunch. Underneath the chicken was bacon piled on. The waffle even had a hint of vanilla. I couldn't finish it all and was lucky to enjoy again for breakfast the next morning. Definitely recommend ordering that! read more

Our favorite place for all 3 meals. Picture Hawaii meets the country! You got surfboards and bighorn sheep on the wall LOL! Great service, excellent food, fair prices, cool place, and the staff hustles and truly cares. Highly recommend especially for breakfast and dinner. Sometimes there's a wait, but it's worth it. read more

Can't beat the food at Z cafe! The waiters and waitresses are attentive, helpful, and caring. The food is excellent. The Restaurant itself is quaint! Z is terrific! read more

So tbh, I wasn't expecting much because this place was fairly hidden to me and I had just moved to Fallbrook so I'm finding my footing. I was super surprised by this place because the food was an eclectic mix of Hawaiian-ish fusion? As someone who's born and raised from the 808, finding local food is always a struggle but this was pretty good! I wasn't a fan of the onions in my Portuguese sausage but I'm sure someone else does. It was tasty with the white rice and just what the doctor ordered. My friend got the veggie omelette and she was about it bout it. The biscuits and gravy were not my thing, it almost tasted like a butter base instead of fat from the bacon or sausage so it threw me a bit. But honestly this place was a wonderful price, great and attentive service, and a huge menu. I'll be back for sure! read more

Ok. Here's the story: it was such a different vibe today. Kaden was our server and he was such a polite and dapper young gentleman. Oh yes, we order 4 happy hour hand rolls: salmon, tuna.... And then we order a Chardonnay, and hot sake. We were still hungry so we ordered fish and chips, yesss and sweet ychee sake!! Mmmmmm mmm. Thank you for the warm hospitality Kaden!! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! My friend and I got food poisoning last night from the sushi rolls. We called the manager and the manager completely dismissed our concerns and didnt even offer us a refund. My friend had to go to urgent care today and I have been sick in bed all day. Horrible horrible horrible establishment. read more

My friends and I love this place for happy hour and dinner. They have a HUGE variety of food that literally anyone can find something to eat! Our servers have always been SO nice and are willing to split our checks easily (we usually go with a group of 6). The vibe of this place is a little odd to be quite honest. It doesn't keep us from going there BUT we don't go for the ambiance. The seared ahi salad is AMAZING!! I loved the wasabi dressing. Would defiantly recommend! read more

Stopped by for breakfast -- portions were generous and filling, but the food was fairly average in flavor. The atmosphere is nice, though it was a bit noisy. Service was okay, not very attentive. A decent spot, but nothing too memorable. read more

I just wanted to say that it's been 6 years since I first tried this restaurant and it still deserves 5 stars! I have never been disappointed and everything I've ever tried has been delicious. Yesterday I made it for breakfast for the first time in 6 years so that was exciting! I had to get the loco moco with over easy eggs and it was EXCELLENT! And under $10 for that I can't believe it. My boyfriend got chicken fried steak which comes with a biscuit and gravy on top of it! He said it was the best he's ever had. This place is probably my favorite restaurant all around. They have great happy hour and early bird specials which are unbeatable. I love their sushi! I always get 2 hand rolls for $5 on happy hour. Also Wednesday is buy one get one free burgers!!! I'm obsessed still after all these years so I think it's pretty amazing. I'll be back very soon! read more

Hubby and I came here for weekend breakfast. The service was really fast and friendly. Food was very good, prepared hot and well seasoned.

We have been here twice. Each time, unfortunately, we were not pleased. We decided to give this place another try because it was on the way to a few errands we had to run. We placed a simple pick up order of their breakfast burritos. Kindly asked they put the salsa inside the burrito as we had to have breakfast on the go. I again emphasized to please put the salsa inside the burrito, their food lacks flavor as you can read in various posts here. I was assured it would over the phone. Picked up the burritos on our way to run errands and no salsa. It's frustrating to have such simple things that cannot be done. There are a number of alternative restaurants I would recommend trying to hopefully have a better experience. read more

Every one of the staff that we came in contact with on our visit was wonderful...friendly, engaging and helpful. I was there with a friend but was really happy after looking at the menu, that I knew I could come back with my picky husband. My friend orders Brussels sprouts appetizers wherever we go, and I think these Sriracha teriyaki ones were the best I ever had. I love that a half sandwich is an option, especially when I can have it with onion rings, portions are just too big and I hate wasting food. The onion rings with the turkey club on Squaw bread was fantastic. Looking forward to returning! read more

It's easy to see why Z Cafe is popular: it is an inviting open restaurant with a bar and large patio; the service is pretty friendly; and, for the cost conscious, the prices are considerably more reasonable than what you might find elsewhere in coastal California. The fact, too, that there are many breakfast and lunch offerings combined with ample portions makes this place a natural fave for many. But once you get a closer look under the hood, its many virtues seem less impressive. To begin, many of the plates offered are starch heavy and item light. The omelet offerings, for example, come with ample hash browns and toast, but the actual eggs themselves are somewhat on the thin side. Second and more serious is what is actually being served. The owners seem to be working on the "quantity = quality" theory of food service. This is something that was ubiquitous in San Diego County 20 years ago, a practice that has for the most part been thankfully abandoned. While ample amounts arrive on your plate or in your coffee cup (including offers to freshen espresso drinks with brewed coffee!), the actual quality is mediocre. Especially in the matter of fresh produce, they border on spoiled--limp lettuce, badly browned and spotted avocados, etc. Meats are thoroughly cooked through, which naturally raises questions about their freshness as well. Even the hash browns feel pre-made. In toto, a lot of so-so food does not make it good or even a good deal. Lastly is the service. To a degree, this is not the waitstaff's fault. The place gets busy, especially on weekends where waits for a table can be long. So it is unsurprising that there is a certain degree of slowness and disorganization, but it seems a bit worse than it should be. My guess is that this is a management problem--either they do not have not enough waiters and waitresses available or they are not being directed well (I suspect it is the former, but I don't know). Don't get me wrong. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with Z Cafe. But there is nothing special or remarkable about it, either. This is cafeteria-quality food gussied up and set in pleasant surroundings. read more

Great food at reasonable prices. Lively atmosphere with good efficient service. Can get very noisy if crowded.

Went for lunch, shared a Philly cheese steak, it wasn't a Philly cheese stake, the kitchen has no clue what this sandwich is, dry no cheese and just a wisp of peppers. Wasted an afternoon out read more

Avoid Danielle R at all costs. Her performance as a manager is extremely poor as she bustles around destroying orders and forgetting items like a deer in headlights. Decent food but management is socially and professionally inept. People come here because it's the only place in town (basically) in rural Fallbrook/Bonsall area. The wait staff all are high school aged and do not have any concept of time, space, management, or problem solving. Tourists or visitors: DO NOT COME HERE. You will be treated like garbage, the wait time will Be extraordinary, the dishes simple and jejune. If you make a simple request, like silverware or extra napkins, you will be greeting with the wide eyes of a 16 year old who looks at you as if they don't speak English. If you escalate to discuss with a manager, you'll be greeted by an incompetent 19 year old who is likely only a manager due to being the closest in age to legally drink. DO NOT EAT HERE. read more

Ok so we go here often but they have such great options and happy hour deals that make me want to shout their praises! Seriously though, if you look at my picture you'll see my dinner was $4 wine and $5 for the Kalua pork sliders (note they usually come with Cole slaw but I don't do cole slaw). $9 bucks for my dinner last night (ok who we kidding I had more than one glass of that $4 wine lol). Happy hour runs 3-6 and if you there before 5:30 there's additional early bird specials. So grateful for this restaurant option when I'm too tired to cook and don't want to break the bank. read more

This has been one of our favorite restaurants in Southern California. I went here yesterday with my daughter and son in law and I wasn't disappointed.
