I went to Yvonne's for a drink and a quick dinner at the bar and unfortunately the experience was not what i expected-As we were seated at the Bar one of the waiters or bar attendant asked my wife for her card which we thought was her ID which she handed to him- He returned it and said he needed her credit card-apparently they run a tab for security reasons-I don't have a problem with this but the way the Credit Card was asked for made us feel very uncomfortable-There has to be a better way to ask for a guest who is paying their hard earned money to be treated a little better-I did speak to the manager about this and i explained the approach has to be more respectful and a use of common sense. 5 Stars for ambiance that can't be beat and fantastic staff. I was looking for a vibey cocktail spot after grabbing drinks at another local spot and Yelp didn't let me down! When you enter this restaurant you will immediately be met with low lighting and a gorgeous interior. It's much larger than I expected, and they were able to fit us in at the bar. Frankie, our fabulous mixologist, was a delight! She helped guide us to some great cocktails, my favorite of which was the Come Clean. This cocktail consists of mezcal, green curry, bell pepper, lime leaf, Thai basil, cilantro, green apple, coconut, lime, and whey. WOW. It was like having a smoky Vietnamese dish as a cocktail and it was DIVINE. I got the last one they had available that night, otherwise I would've been three-deep by the end of our seating. For bites, we started with the Chicken & Quinoa Meatballs. These were big and covered with a Chinese garlic sauce, spicy mayo, peanuts, and jalapeños. I would definitely order them again, but they are in the Social Plates section of the menu for a reason! We also got the Gobi Manchurian stone fired pita, which is vegetarian and includes fried cauliflower, paneer, Kashmiri, mozzarella, and Manchurian chili sauce. I was a bit bummed because it was definitely more pita and sauce than toppings. I couldn't find the cauliflower at all, but it was tasty. Finally, we got the Berber Lentil Fritters from the snacks menu. These fritters have sweet pepper cheese, manchego, and spicy pickled carrots. Had dinner there last night. It's very dark which made it hard to read the menu. It was also quite loud so was hard to hear my friends at times. We had a reservation but were seated at a low table with benches and a sofa that was more appropriate for a party just doing cocktails. I have back issues so was not happy about sitting on the bench side, took several attempts to get a chair from the server. Service was average at best. It was Valentine's Day, and it was really packed, but I respected the fact that the management was trying to accommodate large reservations. I like the fact that nice guy supervisor move us to a bigger table as requested vs the female supervisor said they were fully booked when we initially requested to move. Our server Victoria was very accommodating and sweet! We went full throttle on ordering the best food and drinks! She is the reason why we dined well! The only reason why I am giving it four stars instead of five is because we were told they needed the table when we were already done and about to leave. The manager was nice about it but as a general rule, restaurants should know their audience since we didn't order a shared salad . Cool and kina sexy vibes with tasty, but expensive plates. Booked a Saturday 7:15 ressie almost a month in advance. We were taken through the speakeasy bookcase door and sat at a large round table that was a little too big for our group of 4. We tried 14 small plates and each of us got a few cocktails so we got a pretty good tour of their offerings. Service was attentive, friendly and helpful. For food we tried: Crispy Tater Cubes Baked Oysters Savannah Tunisian Chicken Steak Tartare Chicken & Quinoa meatballs Seared King Trumpet Mushrooms Thai Octopus Tico Tuna Crudo Coconut Rock Shrimp Lazy Lobster Dumplings Seared Halloumi Cheese Lamb Kofta Le Bete Noire Coconut Mousse Cake All of it had great flavors, some of the dishes were a bit too salty for me (meatballs), but generally really enjoyed the food. Portions are quite small for the price, most plates each of us got 1-2 bites. The group thought the standouts were the thai octopus, steak tartare, seared halloumi, seared mushrooms, tunisian chicken, lamb kofta, and le bete noire. Lazy lobster dumplings were a decadent bite but not worth the price and there was not a lot of lobster. The tater cubes and coconut rock shrimp were good but not unique relative to elevated bar food. All of the cocktails were well crafted, but we all loved the dessert drink - an Iced Coffee Swizzle which had chartreuse in it and paired really well with the Le Bete chocolate notes. After tip it was about $150 pp, so this is more of a special night out type of place. I'd return to try more things! read more

What a cool spot! Me and my friends came here for a drink after The Nutcracker and it was such a cool spot! We didn't have a reservation (heads up that having a reservation requires eating a meal) and we were able to walk in and grab a drink at the bar. They have 2 large areas for eating/drinking. One is a little more lit up and lively than the other. You walk in, and if you go to the left, they've got cool bookcase wallpaper going on which goes perfectly with their dark wood interior and dim lighting. Certainly a particular vibe going on. You can order drinks at the bar in this area, or you can go to the second one, which is the bar in the slightly more lively area. This bar is located around the corner (when you walk in, you just go straight ahead and you're in). It can be tough to read the menu because it's so dark inside but it was beautifully decorated for Christmas inside, and both spaces have the classy dark wood interior going on. It can be pretty hard to find a seat at the bar but you can stand around with your friends behind the people sitting at the bar. Definitely glad I saw this place! Super cool and different! read more

(Last visited 11/13/2023.) Hanging out in Boston working for a few weeks and a young lady that worked at the hotel I was staying at said I had to try this place, well, today is the day! Little did I know I should've made reservations on a freaking Monday night of all nights, but we got lucky, so here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is ducked off in like an alleyway of sorts right downtown Boston. It's such a cool vibe because it feels like you've found something secret that nobody knows about, but in fact... everyone knew. Lol. It was so busy in here and they were sold out of reservations for the evening so we popped a squat at the main dining room bar. There are actually two. Once you come in the door you're corralled into a small room where you're greeted by the hostess, but once you turn the corner the place opens up! To your right there's seating, to your left is the first bar and more seating. Then if you go straight you go into the main dining room which has an even bigger bar and plenty of places to sit. This place was dimly lit, chill, intimate and almost felt gothic a lil' bit. Like, real 1600s type stuff. I dug it. Service: Carrie & Darwin took excellent care of us. They were both friendly, fun, quick, attentive, knowledgeable and made sure we had everything that we needed. Food: I started off with a What's Up Doc. It's a cocktail consisting of blended scotch, drambuie, carrot, turmeric, ginger, honey and lemon. It was mixed VERY well. Tangy, sweet, balanced and didn't taste a lot like carrot at all. My first social plate of the evening was the Lazy Lobster Dumplings which are ricotta dumplings cooked in black truffle butter with an onion crunch and lemon crema. This was HEAVEN. It was my favorite dish of the night. I could've eaten 2 or even 3 of these! It was out of this world. Savory, creamy, hearty. Delicious. Soft. Tender. Cheesy. They're like, deconstructed dumplings. They aren't stuffed. Mild, yet very clear truffle taste. For my next drink I went with the Icarus. It's blanco tequila, strawberry balsamic, martini fiero, suze, apricot, lime and served with a spicy tincture. It was a bit spicy, a bit bitter with natural fruity sweetness. Both delicious and different. My next social plate was the Bavette Steak "Mirabeau". There was a slight, slight fishy taste from the anchovy butter. Cooked excellently. Seasoned well. Tender. VERY buttery. The toast underneath it was a great addition to soak up all the extra juices and flavor that you could've missed out on! My final cocktail of the night was the Circus Charlie. It's brownie infused bourbon, coffee infused punt e mes and served with toasted marshmallows. There was a light coffee flavor with a spiced sweetness. Not quite an espresso martini, but lighter, not as thick. My final social plate of the evening was the Coconut Rock Shrimp which is served with a key lime yum-yum sauce, pickled fresno peppers and spicy peanuts. I didn't taste a lot of coconut, but the breading is really soft, really tender. Great snap to the shrimp. Sauce is a little on the light side. It was my least favorite dish of the night. Breading was too thick, fell off in the "Yum Yum" sauce. Now the desserts... I got to try the La Bête Noire which is Valrhona chocolate crémeux, coconut yogurt, mango sorbet, candied cashews, chamoy strawberries and a hibiscus meringue. THIS WAS FANTASTIC. The lightest, airiest, fudge ever and the fruit balanced it all out. Lastly was the Cinnamon Babka Bites. They're served with dulcey chocolate-chunk ice cream, orange blossom, red currant jam, candied pecans and a chocolate dipping sauce. They were soft, sweet, rich, decadent with a great cinnamon-sugar balance. The chocolate dipping sauce was an excellent complement. Value: Each drink was $17.00. It's Boston, it's downtown and this is a NICE place. Be prepared to pay. It is what it is. The lobster dumplings were $32.00. The steak was $19.00. The shrimp was $20.00. Both desserts were $12.00. Like I said, this place isn't cheap so be prepared to spend if you visit. I love this place SO MUCH. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal and evening at Yvonne's while visiting Boston on a long weekend. We almost didn't get to eat here as two weeks in advance, we tried and failed to secure an online reservation. My wife added our names to a waitlist, and we moved on to a second choice, thinking we had no chance. Less than a week out, we were notified a spot had opened up, and we were in. We stayed at the nearby Parker House hotel and walked to the restaurant in under 10 minutes. While down a side alley, they have a huge lit sign you cannot miss. The front entrance is a salon or barbershop, perhaps with a "hidden" door to transport you to an über chic lounge/dining room. At first, we thought we had chosen wrong as the loud, pounding electronic dance music grew louder in our ears. Turns out the music is loud enough to drown out the conversations of others around you but not at your table. Plus, after a bit, I found myself moving to the beat and soaking up that EDM energy. It looks like there are two main dining rooms: one a library with loads of books on the walls and the other more like a fancy white tablecloth lounge with a substantial full-length bar down one side. We were seated in the latter, which also had some "interesting" adult artwork on the walls that was a topic of conversation for us. Our server, Chloe, greeted us warmly and welcomed us to the restaurant. She went over the menu with us and shared her recommendations for dishes. More on that later. We ordered a bottle of Rioja wine from their extensive wine list. There are some high-dollar bottles on there that you could seriously dent an expense account with. Chloe decanted the wine for us and served it in these fantastic wine glasses with the thinnest stems we have ever seen. The wine was incredible and made even better with the service. If you have made it this far, here are the dishes we enjoyed based mostly on Chloe's recommendations ranked in order from most favorite to least. Keep in mind our least favorite was still quite good. 1) Thai Octopus It is one of the best dishes my wife and I have ever had anywhere. The octopus tentacles were beautifully prepared and quite thick. The accompanying mushrooms, shallots, and peas in a coconut sauce perfectly matched the mix of flavors and textures. We could have only had this dish and been completely happy, but wait there's more. 2) Kale and Farro Salad We had our eye on this dish from the start, and Chloe confirmed our choice as a good one. Another stunningly prepared dish with a great blend of shapes and flavors. The deep green kale was fresh with shaved fennel, hazelnuts, and some lovely little bits with a yummy vinaigrette drizzled on top. 3) Lobster Dumplings You gotta have lobster when in Boston, right? The primary colors of this dish won me over with the yellow butter sauce, red lobster, and green parsley, along with the white crema and lightly seared ricotta dumplings. It was as lovely to look at it as it was to eat. 4) Lamb Kofta We picked this dish ourselves, and in hindsight, we should have gotten another Thai octopus. Don't get me wrong, the lamb was delish, but the dish didn't differentiate itself from similar dishes I have had at Mediterranean restaurants back home. There's no way you are still reading this review, but on the off chance you are, we finished with the La Bête Noire. A rich chocolate custard (?) topped with a hibiscus meringue. Surrounding it on the plate was mango sorbet, strawberries, and candied cashews--a fine ending to a fine dinner. Service was terrific the entire evening and made the meal even more special. The ambiance here is really nice, cool decorations, great warm lighting. In the past when we've went to places like this the investment in the presentation has outshined the food, so we had some hesitation. The food and drinks were surprisingly good, everything on the menu sounded really good and mostly delivered. The walnut bread, endive salad, and lazy lobster dumplings were great. The iberico steak and broccolini were good but not great. I'd probably try something different next time. The drinks were really unique and tasty. The staff were a little of a let down. No one was really that friendly. I mean it was fine, but for the prices they didn't really make you feel that welcome. We were celebrating a big anniversary and they didn't really seem to care. Looking at the other tables none of the wait staff really seemed engaging. They didn't seem like the professionals you'd expect going somewhere like this. Everyone just seemed to be going through the motions. It's really too bad as they have such a great space and talented chefs, but the service just isn't at the level of everything else. Zaatar zucchini, mushroom trumpets, & rack of lambs. I enjoyed everything. We initially asked for something else for dessert but were given the carrot cake by mistake. I was a little wary of going here looking at the prices but the food was outstanding. We went for dinner as a group of 6 and got shared plates and drinks. Vibes: Maximalist décor bordering on gaudy with some more chic elements mixed in, it's kind of a lot mashed together but makes for a fun vibe. 2 bars. The bathrooms are really nice. Service: Excellent, our server was very quick, very attentive, super friendly. The food and drinks came out very quickly. Other staff were kind and helpful. Drinks: We got a round of espresso martinis that were very good. I got the Circus Charlie that was rather strong, the marshmallow is more of a small garnish than a feature of the drink, I passed it around the table (because everyone thought it looked good on the menu) and no one else liked it. I tried my friend's 1975 which was delicious. Food: Nearly everything I ate was delicious, the flavors were complex and the textures were spot on. I scraped all the sauce off of each plate. I would recommend all of these: Seared King Trumpet Mushrooms Zucchini Za'atar Coconut Rock Shrimp Seared Halloumi Cheese Gobi Manchurian Pita Crispy Tater Cubes Baked Oysters "Savannah" Mocha Crème Brûlée The only dish I wasn't totally in love with was the Garlic Shrimp Pita but more so because I'm not a huge shrimp fan. Value: For the 6 of us it came out to $75 per person including 20% tip for 10 dishes and 10 drinks. It was definitely a bit of a splurge for drinks and small plates rather than a filling dinner but the quality is definitely reflected in the food and service. Overall I would recommend Yvonne's. My love and I recently spent our 10 year anniversary at Yvonne's and absolutely loved it. Neither of us had ever been and we didn't know what it looked like inside. Both of us absolutely love reading and go to the library all the time, so when the hostess said she was seating us in "the library" it felt like fate :) We were sat in the most beautiful little corner surrounded by books and gorgeous lighting. Our waitress was super sweet and helped guide us with how to order and some of her favorites. Yvonne's is a tapas style restaurant so unless you order one of the feast items, you'll be set with about 5 small plates for 2 people. We started with the Passionfruit Mule and the Snapdragon cocktails. I absolutely LOVED my mule. It was so ginger-forward and tasted super fresh. We absolutely loved the octopus, and the tom kha coconut sauce it was served in was incredible. The rock shrimp were perfectly crispy and tasty, and served with a delicious sauce as well. They were wonderful dishes but if we were to return, we would try other things on the menu. While the dessert menu looked tempting, we were too stuffed to order. We were impressed with Yvonnes. I honestly didn't expect the food to be as good as it was, but it seemed to tick all the boxes. Cool atmosphere, beautiful room, great drinks, friendly and efficient service AND good food! We dined on the earlier side and I expected to be rushed through dinner, so common these days at restaurants, and that was not the case here. This is not budget dining by any stretch, and I think works best if treated as a sharing/tapas style menu. There are also some large plates and large format drinks that might work if you have a bigger group, but since it was just two of us, we stuck with the small plates and marveled at some of the larger offerings go by our table! Coconut fried shrimp were addictive and delicious, and we felt a generous portion, easily shareable for up to 3/4 people. Lazy Lobster dumplings were like gnocchi in a very tasty cream sauce. Perhaps a little more lobster would have made this dish a tad better, but I think we all know how that goes these days with the price of seafood. If you've thought about dining here, just book it. This place has such a weird layout, they sat us in a dark corner where we couldn't see the restaurant which was in another room, where I wish we had been seated. My daughter ordered a cosmopolitan and it was terrible and she wouldn't complain. So it was a waste. Their menu is small plates with big plate prices. I ordered the chicken wrap which should be the chicken pizza wrap. Did not like it. The flavor was odd and the chicken tasted old. I was annoyed by the time we paid the tab for mediocrity. I recently went to Yvonne's for the second time. I had friends from Maine who came down to go see a show nearby and I needed something that would fit their vibe, which is exactly what Yvonne's is perfect for. The decor and ambiance is just *chef's kiss.* The food options are mostly smaller plates, with a few larger dishes that are pretty expensive because they are meant for more than one person, which I don't quite understand. The dishes we got were nothing special for the most part, but my favorite was definitely the rock shrimp (which I believe is just their version of coconut shrimp). The octopus wasn't bad either... had a nice crisp on the outside edges and a smoky flavor. The drinks were decent, and our waiter was attentive and friendly. For dessert we tried the baked Alaska, which was a lot of fun. Definitely only order this if you have a group of 4 or more- the thing is HUGE and it's mostly ice cream so forget about taking the leftovers. A great variety of foods that complimented each other. The food~ The garlic shrimp pita was a savory, melts in the mouth, soft, warm, well balanced, pizza like pita with a creamy sauce and wisps of cheese and arugula. Amazing. Chicken & Quinoa meatballs had a nice hint of spice with the spicy mayo and the soy chicken was very tender and sweet. Thai octopus also was soft and not chewy with a charred and slightly bitter taste, but it balanced really well with the sauce, which was a bit more smooth with a buttery taste and spices. "Tico" tuna crudo had a great combo of crunchy bits with tuna and fresh taste from the mango and zesty sauce. The logistics~ Parking around the area is tough with not much street parking, right near downtown. Service was great, although the booth style tables were a little close to each other. My BFF took me here for my birthday.. My very first speakeasy/ supper club. It was soooooo dope! When you first walk in, it's kinda dark and the hostess station looks like a hair salon. As you walk through, you enter a library section where there were a bunch of parties held (I heard the wait-list is crazy long to get into that part). We were seated at the dinner section. It was old fashion Boujee style. Crystals, chandeliers, every table lit with candles (led). Nice chill vibe. I don't think there's a dress code, but highly suggest getting cute. They are know for their signature cocktails. I started with the passion fruit mule 3.5/5. And ended with the snapdragon 4/5. $16ea Warning, this place is pricey AF! We started with baked oysters (only 2) $14. It was creamy and cooked to perfection... absolutely delicious! 5/5 We had the lobster dumplings next. There was more dough than lobster. I didn't really like it, but ate it anyways cause it was a whopping $32!! 1.5/5. We then had the wild golf shrimp next, that was a bomb! The green mojo sauce was to die for. It tasted like cilantro which is my favorite herb! I wish they had a little dipping side of it. $21. 5/5 We ended with the baked Alaska desert. It's $45 but serves like 4-6 ppl. You can also order the half portion for less which is what we did. It's basically a grown up ice cream cake. It's lit on fire and sooo cute. Prior to arriving, we were a bit mystified as to how the menu actually works and the portion sizes. The waiter did a terrific job explaining the menu and we had a wonderful experience.This was a celebration of our 45th wedding anniversary. It could not have gone better.My family has enjoyed meals at this location since the late 1940s. My parents had dates and celebrated their engagement at Loch Ober's, I closed business deals in the private dining rooms, we celebrated my mother's 75th birthday here. It is nice to see how you have appropriately memorialized the spirit of Loch Ober's and brought it to modern times. read more

A speakeasy with the most glamour vibe. I walk in and immediately want to throw on some red lipstick and don on some high heels. Bring a date here and you're bound to impress. Stunning bar with chandeliers hidden behind a fake barber shop???? Sign me up. We had an arrray of vegetarian appetizers, husband had meat with a Middle East flavor/asian flavor vibe.
