After we were finished they offered to take us out for a celebration retirement dinner. They mentioned sushi. I quickly looked on Yelp & found a sushi restaurant named Nami Sushi @ 7344 W Lawerence Ave in Harwood Heights, IL that's rated 4.5 stars in Yelp. Nami Sushi is located in a strip mall on Lawerence Ave. We found that they have a fairly extensive menu of different sushi's. We started out w/several appetizers. The first one & of my favorites was the soft shell crab which was delicious. We also ordered several sushi rolls to be shared w/the table. They came together on one platter. One was an assortment of sashimi on rice. The pieces of sashimi were very skimpy. The other sushi roll was ok. The best appetizer was the soft shell crab deep fried & served w/a dipping sauce. After the appetizers we ordered our dishes. My wife and her friend ordered a chicken teriyaki dinner that came w/miso soup, an artistically arranged salad & chicken teriyaki which was mediocre quality chicken. Sorry to say the chicken wasn't very tender & kind of lacked flavor. My buddy says every time he flies to the Philippines (he's Guatemalan) they stop in either Japan or Korea he orders Tempura Udon in the airport. I ordered the shrimp tempura & vegetable tempura. The quantity was generous but the shrimp tempura batter was lacking. By this I mean good tempura batter/panko is very light, flaky & crispy, this was none of the aforementioned. The batter was heavy & lacked the consistency that shrimp tempura should have. The vegetable tempura was decent. I especially liked the onion & the red pepper as the tempura batter nicely complimented these vegetables. This also came w/miso soup & an artistically presented salad. Overall the restaurant is nice the service was good but sorry to say the food was lacking. For me personally I was disappointed as the Yelp reviews had 4 1/1 stars that I didn't feel were justified.

They have plenty of options of classic and unique rolls, along with appetizers, hibachi & teriyaki entrees, a party tray, and more. They definitely specialize in sushi which consists of 90% of their menu. Everything is very reasonably priced as well, plus they do a lunch special. It's really easy to place an order - I always just call and have never had any wait or complications. They don't have any online ordering but truly it's so efficient and easy to place your order via phone. My one complaint is they're takeout only. It's spacious inside and the sushi is good so I'm curious as to why they're still carryout only and don't offer dine-in. Maybe it's due to staffing since they have the space for it. They also have a few cocktails and other things like sake. It's about $7 for beers. They have Japanese ones like Sapporo. Certainly the food is why people come. It's about $6 to get the cheapest options. A few good ones for vegetarians to get. We got the Chili Avocado Maki and the Shiitake Mushroom Maki. Came with kimchi and wasabi paste like always. We ordered some Jumbo shrimp fried rice, Singapore noodles, pad se eew and a sampler appetizer platter. The appetizer platter came with 2 egg rolls, 2 dumplings, 2 bbq ribs, 2 shrimp toast, 2 crab Rangoons & 2 fried shrimp. The egg rolls were fresh and full of meat!! Very crispy and delicious! 7/10 I didn't have the dumplings I don't care for them myself but my wife likes them she gave them a 6.7/0 she said she's had better. The Ribs had a nice bite and flavor to them just a tad tough for me. 6/10 The shrimp toast was my favorite of the appetizers the were crispy not greasy and the shrimp was definitely there. The takoyaki was actually better than average! I didn't expect much because I've had way too many disappointing takoyaki in this country, yet somehow I keep ordering it everywhere lol. Here, it was freshly cooked, crispy on the outside, and flavorful. Definitely recommend it. The pork katsu curry was decent, nothing fancy. I think the katsu itself could be improved in both texture and portion. The meat was a little too thin, and the breadcrumb coating could have been crispier. The curry was alright. It could have had a little more flavor, but overall it was still enjoyable, especially for the price. Service was also fine, nothing particularly memorable but no complaints either. The main reason this felt more like a 3.5 than a full 4 was actually the smell. The moment I walked in, there was a slightly unpleasant smell that reminded me of a kitchen that could use a deeper cleaning. I checked the menu and didn't see that much raw fish, so I'm not sure where it was coming from. To be fair, I've noticed a similar smell at quite a few casual Japanese restaurants, but it still affected the first impression a little. Overall, decent food at a reasonable price and convenient enough that I'd come back.
