Every time I come here the food is delicious. I personally recommend the spicy tonkotsu ramen! Its definitely got a kick to it, but its worth it. Its a large portion, so my husband and I often order this and 2-3 sushi rolls. One thing that makes this place stand out, is the decorations on the sushi roll plates. In addition to the two maki roll lunch, I ordered Saba nigiri, which I'm always excited to see on the menu in a sushi place. The food was good but seemed very overpriced. If you want to pay an extra $10 of what a roll would usually be for some art on the plate, then this is your place. I liked that this place is byob but that is about the end of the perks of it. The restaurant is extremely small, tables are maybe 10 in apart, and makes it feel like you're on top of the party next to you. The food was brought quickly but it also seemed like they wanted you to finish it extremely quickly. At one point, we were being stood over by the employee waiting for us to finish our gyoza so she could take the plate from under us. The gyoza was actually delicious but again, we felt rushed and uncomfortable with how quickly we were expected to finish it so we could order our entree rolls. Both the rolls were good but again, while we were still eating, someone asked us if we were done & ready to order more & or get the dessert menu. Stopped by Yama on a Friday night. The place was small, crowded, and pretty loud. The ramen was really good and the sushi was decent, but the prices were a bit too high. We dropped in to try some sushi and were absolutely delighted by the staff, ambiance, and the presentation of the food. We ordered two salads to start, and truly we could have shared one. They were pretty big! Their ginger dressing was fresh and balanced - not the average creamy ginger dressing. We ordered a roll each and the fried chicken appetizer. The chicken was fantastic! Super juicy, crispy, and fresh. The rolls were presented so beautifully! Not only were they stunning, but they were delicious and FRESH. Super impressed. So far best sushi in Oak Park, because: 1-I like how they make the rice : many Japanese restaurant wannabes either have rice over-cooked or under-cooked. Their rice is cooked as it should be and has freshly cooked flavor and scent. 2- small cozy space that feels like I am in a Japanese restaurant. 3- server, Mint, is very attentive and friendly with a right amount of politeness. Downside is the price being a bit stiff for my budget, and the inflation must be tough for the restaurant businesses. For now, I'd frequent this business for "Lunch Specials". I went on a Saturday afternoon, I wish I could remember my server's name she was incredible, she went above and beyond to take care of me. But the crown jewel here is the gluten-free menu. There were rolls I haven't been able to eat for years because of crunch and sauce. Here they have all the crunchy rolls gluten-free!!!! It was all fine, just was expecting super super fresh from a new sushi place. The truffle tuna app really set a negative tone for me. I've been to Yama three times. Once dined in and two pick ups. Each time the sushi did not disappoint. I think the best sushi in the area. It is a little higher price point but if you byob it's ultimately a great value. Looking forward to visiting more! read more

Visited recently at lunch and had a lovely meal. Service was a little slow but it was mid-afternoon and they had just one server. It's a small place, only five or six tables and the bar. Sushi was excellent - I didn't love the roll I ordered (Red Dragon) but it was presented impeccably and the fish was extremely fresh. Miso soup was good and had nice chewy seaweed and tasted like it was made (or doctored successfully) in house rather than from a packet like most places. Will definitely be back. read more
