Discovered this restaurant through other Yelpers. Located in downtown Lagrange, parking is street parking. The entrance is shared with another restaurant. The inside is gorgeous! Service was great from all employees that we encountered (hosts, server, food runners) On day of my visit, they had restaurant week special. The presentation of the sushi was pretty. The food was a mix with some being OK, some bland, and some disappointing or bad. Mackerel Sashimi & Spiderman roll & BBQ Eel Sushi & Miso Soup were OK ... about like what I've had elsewhere. Shrimp Fried Rice & California Roll were bland. Chicken & Lobster combo Hibachi was very disappointing / bad - the Chicken & Lobster were both hard / tough, and the Lobster didn't taste like Lobster. For the higher cost, it was a waste and I might as well have gotten just Chicken. My wife says her Shrimp Sushi was rubbery. I'd be willing to go back for simple raw fish Sushi & Sashimi and the eel (but Sushi Ukai is better). Came here with my fiancée. You'll notice a sushi trend with us. We visit La Grange periodically. We decided to give this place a try. It's a big sushi restaurant. It was crowded, only a few customers. It's darkly lit, but we like the ambiance. It had an authentic feel. It was a little pricey. The sushi rolls were $15-$20. They didn't serve all you could eat. Wooooow, it's alright. A little overpriced for what it is but pretty good food and easy to get a table. Nothing amazing but reliably decent. Lots of options for sushi , standard chinese food dishes, and apps. Most of the time we get delivery since theres not many places that delivers sushi around us but the actual restaurant has a nice interior. Fancy decorations and wallpaper with a temple for the bar. The lighting is pretty dark, which can be annoying for some people. Service is usually good and quick. Their seaweed salad and shrimp tempura are good so we usually get that, some sushi, and an entree. You can't really go wrong with most of the menu. Would definitely recommend if you are lazy and want some pretty good sushi delivered or want a table on a weekend night with no reservation or waiting. read more

I've ordered from here probably a dozens times since we moved to Brookfield two years ago. Sadly the quality of sushi and technique have just been declining and declining, and now here I am. They leave the tails on the shrimp tempura - which, fine. But in my effort to remove the shell, I realized the shrimp hadn't been deveined. Gross. I was also missing an ingredient from one of the rolls. Probably won't be spending $$$ here again. :( read more

The food here is fast food quality sushi. This place can be packed since it's the more affordable sushi place in the area. It's perfect for date night and going out with friends. The tables are private and large enough. The food is average and the portions are as expected. I don't have a pic here but the pics posted by others are pretty exact. I ordered the volcano rolls and they were very small compared to rolls I've ordered at other places. They also came out cold. We ordered the "Fire Roll" and quite literally our table caught on fire. The placemats were flaming and we had to get up while staff stomped and patted the fire out. We were asked if we'd like a new table... "yes please, that one is ON FIRE". When the bill came not even the roll that caused the fire was discounted. We asked to speak to the manager in which he replied "we'll be more careful next time" without even a sorry. Extras: we waited 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us when we sat down. Honestly, this is my fifth or sixth time back here, so yes, if you couldn't tell, I am definitely a fan of this place. In terms of general quality, this place offers some of the best sushi that the Chicago suburbs offer. There are some places nearby that have superior specialty rolls, but I think in terms of everything from basic to specialty rolls, Woow's is a heavy hitter. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 9/10 Inside, the restaurant is pretty dark with two main sections for seating and including bar seating. One is a line of booths that is dimly lit and perfect for a date. The other section is an open area with multiple tables. The entire restaurant can probably seat around 80+ people I would estimate. The ambience of the restaurant is actually very classy and everything is quite clean. SERVICE : 9/10 I have almost always had impeccable service while I was here. I came in around 1:45 PM for the all-you-can eat and our order was quickly taken up. The waiter kindly noted that all orders would cease after 2:30 PM which we acknowledged. About halfway into our first order of sushi, a waitress came over to us for a last call order, which I really appreciated, seeing as we were able to get one more round of sushi in before they closed up the all-you-can eat. FOOD: 8/10 They have a wide variety of options here and I have tried most of the offerings on the all-you-can eat menu. I usually get seaweed salad as an appetizer but they offer miso soup and I believe tempura as other options now as well. Here are the rolls that I tried: dragon, tiger, jaguar, eel avocado, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, rainbow, sweet potato, Lagrange, butterfly, spicy crab sticks. Seaweed Salad - Pretty good as a staple seaweed salad. Nothing special. Dragon Roll - One of my favorite rolls here, the sauce is really good on it. Definite must try here. Tiger Roll - The spicy mayo sauce makes stripes on a tiger when combined with the eel sauce for a sweet and spicy mix that's definitely worth a shot. Jaguar Roll - Similar to the tiger roll but a bit spicier. I like the balance of the tiger roll more. Eel Avocado - This is a good mix-up roll that I like a lot. The avocado is fresh and matches well with the eel. Spicy Salmon/Tuna - Both are good and pretty standard. One thing I like about this place in particular is they add a bit of crunch to the texture of the spicy rolls, which makes them some of my favorite that I have had. Rainbow Roll - A lighter roll that is easier to digest, mostly vegetables with different types of fish. Sweet Potato - An underrated roll in my opinion, the sweet potato is made just crunchy enough that it blends very well here. It also comes out hot which is a nice change up from the mostly cold rolls you'll be eating. LaGrange Roll - Cream cheese with a type of tempura shrimp and a lot of crunch. The presentation is quite good, but there are a lot of other rolls I like more. Butterfly Roll - Shrimp tempura in some sort of spicy sauce that was actually really good. This was one of my favorite rolls and definitely worth a shot at. Spicy Crab Stick Roll - Meh, this one was disappointing. I didn't like it very much. I guess I should have expected it but it was imitation crab that didn't meld well with the roll. It felt cheap. Don't waste belly space on this one. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 10/10 Seeing as I've been here and back multiple times, I don't see me not coming back here again. Great food, and great restaurant. TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: EAT! It was a very cold, snowy day, but we were in the mood for sushi and so ventured out. We started with some tropical beverages to try to trick ourselves into thinking it was summer, but then also ordered some miso soup to actually warm up a bit. My mai tai was fruity and tasty even if it wasn't exactly a traditional pairing with sushi. The miso soup was flavorful, and had generous amounts of seaweed and tofu. We then ordered a variety of rolls including the spicy salmon, California, Alaska, salmon and avocado and a couple of others I can't remember now. We steered clear of ones with too many fried components, and there were plenty of those to choose from, particularly in the classic rolls section of the menu. We enjoyed all of them, and prices seemed reasonable for the size of the rolls. Service was fast and just attentive enough. The weather likely kept the Friday night crowd down a bit from its typical level though and so things may slow down a bit if sushi orders are piling up more than they were tonight. Parking in the nearby garage is free and convenient. It was nice to not have to search for a spot or to have to brush off the car after dinner. read more

Tried this little spot today after driving by in Downtown La Grange. The service was a bit slow but the food was pretty great! They started us with a free dish of edamame that was perfectly salted. My husband ordered the Snow White Roll which is a combination of a spicy tuna and a regular tuna roll and he said it was spectacular. I ordered the beef fried rice which was huge and really tasty - I will have 1-2 more meals just from one serving and it was only $9.00! We both ordered clear soup and ginger salads. The soup was outstanding. The salad dressing was a bit watery but still good. Before we left, they gave us a complimentary dish of fresh honeydew that was so good. Where they got fresh, ripe honeydew melon in February in Chicago, I have no idea, but it was great! We would definitely try this place again. read more
