General ambience was nice. Music wasn't really my taste because they were playing Top 40 pop music that were all breakup songs while I was there with my partner. The taste of the Basil Thai noodle was fantastic! The presentation of the sushi/sashimi and the Seaweed Salad were GORGEOUS. However- the saba (mackerel) sashimi I ordered must have been from an old stock, improperly prepared or stored because in minutes, I developed facial flushing, vomiting, and felt ill shortly afterward. And for the record, I have no food allergies. The other person dining with me ate everything I did except the mackerel and did not become sick. Surprisingly exceeded my expectations big time! I've been in the Berwyn area for many years & have always wanted to try this place & I'm glad I finally did. Their Pad Thai was great & flavorful & everything I wanted in a bowl. No complaints on the entree and I even got the famous Korean Soda to go. The service was good & quick , so definitely no complaints on that end either. The entire experience was overall good & nothing out of this world. If you've never been, I would say definitely give it a try! Plenty of parking as well, did not have any issues on that front either. I had one of their new specialty sushi rolls called "Rock N Roll" and avocado smoothie. Both were great. The fried sushi roll had good flavors and it was also crunchy. The avocado smoothie was creamy and delicious. It was a big serving so I drank half of it and brought the rest home. The price was on the higher end, but it wasn't too crazy, considering its nice atmosphere and quality. Hate to leave this review because the food is absolutely amazing, On 12/01/2024 My family and I which is a party of 8 went to this establishment which we frequent often especially when we have family from out of town. we sat at our usual table we order our food as we were waiting one member of our group seen something no one wants to see after there food is served! Now we understand things like this can happen to anyone so we tried not to make a scene but not only did we see one but multiple crawling in and out of the cushions on the bench seats, we notified the establishment they acted surprised an unaware of the roaches, needless to say we asked for the check and left without finishing most of our food! We know this issue will be taken care of but we did not receive an apology and was still charge the full price of the meal that we did not even get to enjoy. We will not becoming back and will notify all our family and friends about our visit! we would of gladly paid for what we ate but to charge for things that were not even touched or had the chance to even bring to the table. The food is fantastic and the service kind! My wife and I have been enjoying a variety of Asian foods with consistent quality at Junki (rather an unfortunate name). For me, sushi is the main attraction. The variety, quality, and presentation has been consistently delightful. The salads are well dressed, the soups condimented perfectly, and the fish always tasty. For example, Saba or mackerel as nigiri or in roll seems to me that the chef has carefully cured and prepare the fish as shushi. The server we have had, a mid-age Asian-looking lady (sorry I did not asked for her name) has always been patient and very attentive to our needs at the table. Lunch is a good time to taste dishes from various regions in Asia at a reasonable price. Dinner has been a time for us to enjoy quality of food with families and friends. I do not recommend ordering food to take out, which you have to do through J Wok, the store next door. The food and service have discouraged our business at each experience we had with them. I encourage you to try Sushi Junki, which provides quality of food, great service, in a down to earth setting. Such businesses improve community life and we need to keep them around. Strip mall/plaza sushi doesn't sound so appetizing out of context, but an exception could be made when Sushi Junki is the restaurant being talked about. On the outside it is a standard looking building, almost unnoticeable as you're driving down Roosevelt in Berwyn where it looks like it shares a wall with another Asian restaurant, but the 'Junki's' make up for it with a tasteful interior design in their dining area. Lots of options for seating that include tables for bigger parties, while having a nice selection for a dinner of 4. Love to have a sushi restaurant like this with the chefs preparing the rolls in the front of the house instead of the back. I catch myself watching them before and after my meal with awe as they are perfecting their craft, satisfying yet another grateful customer to a delectable and cultural experience. Any who, it's time to eat. Hold the phone, they don't just serve sushi here! This is practically a pan-Asian restaurant, serving up Thai dishes, Chinese dishes, Korean dishes, curry dishes, ramen, noodles, fried rice- all listed on one side of the menu, while the other is dedicated to the restaurant's pride and joyous rolls. You got your classic and signature rolls, the nigiri, and sashimi too. You can order them by the roll, or you can get a deluxe serving (for a larger party, I imagine) that neatly presents the sushi in a cute wooden boat or bridge (they may have other designs too, but those were the only ones I saw during my visit). This wasn't a sushi night for me, luckily I was impressed to see all of the other options they had on tap. Speaking of tap, they got a nice selection of beers, wine, liquor and sake; all very affordable too, especially the wine. Back to the food though, I was scouring their non-sushi menu trying to find something I never had before. It didn't take long until I discovered that they serve Korean chap chae noodles here, which is a very thin and almost cellophane-like type of noodles served with any protein option (beef, chicken, pork, etc). I got the beef, and the dish is served to feed two; it was that big! So, I was delighted to find something I've never seen in a restaurant before, and was equally as delighted to figure out that chap chae noodles rock! I mean, they were incredible and is something that I will keep my eye out for in future Korean/Pan-Asian restaurant excursions. So we got great quality foods here at Sushi Junki. Not just sushi. Alcohol available at the restaurant. Amazing prices too. ~$50 (tip included) for two people is NOT bad at all in my opinion. Very lowkey spot where not too many people are coming in to eat. It seems to be a great addition to the Berwyn area on a popular road. Get some sushi and judge for yourself on where it would rank among the greats in the Chicagoland area. We ordered a total of 3 rolls, 2 of which were over dressed in sauce and we were unable to taste the actual ingredients in the rolls due to the overwhelming sauce taste. This was a HUGE surprise find in good ole Berwyn, IL! My coworkers and I are always trying to find something different than the usual fare (Mexican) in the area and this was a nice surprise. Someone at work discovered this place and it's in this crappy little strip mall. We have passed it a million times and never took notice. However, the inside is really, really pretty -like a fancy Chicago restaurant! They have Thai as well as Japanese food. I ordered a maki special and it was very fresh, very tasty. Ummm...why was this place practically empty on a Friday night? I have no idea. Shame on you for not being there. Go now. It'll be ok. We ordered the Vegetable Crunch, Tamago, Red Snapper, Strawberry Roll and got a free roll (which may have been California or something similar). The crunch roll and tamago were great, hubby liked his rolls as well. The rolls had a very beautiful and artful presentation. The decor was awesome, someone put a lot of thought into it. Swanky and fun but not obnoxious. The service was good, though I thought someone asked us if we wanted miso soup shortly after we arrived. The soup never came, but was not on our bill either so not that big a deal. A few other small things about the service may have been just the slightest bit lacking, but generally it was still above average. They are connected to the Chinese/Thai place next door (the new name escapes me now but it used to be the See Thru Chinese Kitchen) and I believe you can get delivery through that place. Sushi Junki offers some Thai items on the menu as well. The people at the next table ordered some and it smelled awesome. A fine addition to Berwyn and we will definitely be back. read more

Updated review long time coming for this place. It's been very impressive to watch the quality, service, and decor consistently improve at Sushi Junki. The menu prices now seem justified, and the food is very seldom disappointing. Most amazing has been the improvement in the quality of the sushi. It's so good now, the prices seem more than fair. In fact, I feel like I'm getting a good value. My wife and I enjoyed a variety of maki rolls, well-prepared. The nigiri pieces were better than average, in terms of taste and appearance. The maguro we were served had some nice fatty marbling - more like a low-level toro than ordinary nigiri. The oyster shooters were carefully made, and unlike that of so many other places, didn't taste gross. I'm surprised and amazed at the evolution of this Thai/Chinese takeout spinoff, and I would now consider this to be one of the best restaurants in Berwyn. read more

This is a sushi place that is attached to the Chinese restaurant next door. Thumbs up to that because the menu is huge. I wish I could say coming here was great but we had the most awkward server which made our dining experience pretty strange. We started off ordering some smoothies; on the menu it says you can mix up to two flavors so I picked strawberry and peach, which was beyond yummy. However my friend wanted taro mixed with passion fruit and our waitress basically told him he couldn't have that and just told him she would bring a taro one. So that was a little weird. I ordered sushi and my friend went with the pineapple curry. The sushi was honestly amazing and from what I sampled of my friends dish it was incredible. I wish they waited to bring my sushi out with my friends entree so I didn't end up finishing my meal well before his even arrived. Oh the decor was great; good transitional lighting.
