Right in the middle of downtown La Grange there is a gem of a spot for sushi. You enter and walk into a Japanese paradise. To the right they actually have a room where you can take your shoes off and sit like the Japanese and eat which we got to do and that was amazing. The service is phenomenal, and all of the servers are very knowledgeable about the sushi and very friend We ordered the edamame, seaweed salad, and House salad with ginger dressing along with Godzilla roll, spicy tuna, customize roll Quality of the fish was a good texture and the sauces that paired well with them also came with a flare. The food was great and sushi was not too hard in terms of texture so that made for a better taste overall such a good vibe and love this place. read more

Sushi Ukai - Ambient - Sushi Bars Near Me - La Grange, Illinois

I have been coming to this place since I lived here full time 15 years ago, and it is still my favorite sushi restaurant all these years later whenever I come to visit my family. The quality of the fish is unmatched to anything in the area and it keeps lots of traditional dining experiences such as tatami, the order sheets menu options and preparation of the sushi itself. We fell like family when we come by, as they always remember us and our orders and what we have been up to even years later. The owner and the service is fantastic and I love how relaxing the ambiance and decorations are. It's a staple for anyone in town or even visiting who is craving the best sushi experience in the area!! read more

Sushi Ukai - Salmon sashimi, quail egg sushi, octopus sashimi, squid sashimi, fatty salmon and scallop sashimi - Sushi Bars Near Me - La Grange, Illinois

Oh man, Sushi Ukai was spot on. The place has that clean Japanese vibe, all wood and subtle lighting, super calm but still lively. You can sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs doing their thing, it's fun to see them prep everything right in front of you. People working there were super nice, made you feel welcome without hovering. Wait was chill, maybe like 15 minutes. The menu is colorful, lots of stuff to try. I went for the first item on the signature roll menu, the Salmon Dynamite Roll. Came with shrimp tempura, avocado, mango, and black pepper salmon on top. First bite... Incredible, salmon was tender, almost melts in your mouth, really flavorful with just enough pepper kick. Shrimp tempura had that crunch, avocado and mango were soft and sweet, all balanced together. Definitely worth coming here. I'll be back to try more rolls for sure. read more

I'm not sure how this has high ratings on Yelp and Google but this isn't a 5 star restaurant. As an Asian reviewer, this place was very mid. The decor and ambience were all fine. I did see that they have outdoor dining. We ordered a dragon roll, dan dan noodles, and tonkotsu ramen noodle. I'm not going to go through every dish like I usually do. They're all pretty much 2.5-3 out of 5. The broth in the ramen was bland and tasteless. Noodles were chewy. The dan dan noodles were also bland. The versions I had at other places are well seasoned. Dragon roll was just okay. Service was fine. I had a better experience at Shang Noodle down the street. read more

730 reservation. For that fun table in the front my daughter's birthday dinner. They were behind when we checked in at 715. I said call me when you see the current patrons are getting close to being done. It is after 8:30 now. Sad. No call. I plan to call later. We are leaving for Sakura on Ogden and 83 I did call at 930. Complained to the woman who answered about two hours being too long to not receive a phone call back. I did get a call from the manager. Minutes later. Impressed on her fast return call. I did not expect that. And she offered a free meal next time. The party at that special table left right before 930. I feel bad for being mad but she handled this very well. read more

Very overpriced, small portions for the price and their soy sauce was extremely salty, burned your mouth

Food is delicious. Can't go wrong with anything you order. Been here twice but have done carry out a few times. Staff is friendly and it gets very busy. It's not very loud and the seating is limited. Hard for large parties. We made reservations and was able to get a table on Friday. read more

Amazing sushi! Everyone who works here is terrific! We just have Anna choose our menu and we always love everything she recommends or brings to our table! The cold sake is the perfect compliment to our meal. I love the music choices, which are not your typical Sushi house sound. Definitely recommend, but don't take my table or spot at the sushi bar! The king crab roll was very good. And the shrimp tempura dinner was delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

I always enjoy the atmosphere here. The food is also good. The service is great the staff is always attentive and helpful. Although I forgot to take many pics I had these tempura jalepeno toppers, this was my first time eating this but I loved that it was crunchy and delicious. Shanghai dumpling which are always yummy in addition to the gyoza. The rolls this trip wasn't my favorite Osanka mostly because I was expecting something different which was the entire roll to be tempur fried. But literally everything that I've ever eaten here is delicious even the drinks (wine or sake is ideally my go to) read more

We were in town from Indy for the weekend and had time for just one nice sit-down meal--I'm so glad we chose this place. The service alone was top tier, and the food was absolutely mind-blowing. The crab Rangoon was probably the best we've ever had, and every piece of sushi was packed with flavor. The spicy Mexican roll was a standout favorite. I only wish we lived closer so we could come back more often! read more

I love love love this place. The sushi is out of this world! If you're like me and you will drive for good food-- you definitely want to check out Sushi Ukai in LaGrange. It's not just the food that makes this place amazing, it's the impeccable and over the top service. The ambiance is super relaxed vibes and perfect for a date or a family night! First of all, let's talk about the food! If you like fresh, delectable sushi-- this place will soon become you're favorite jam. When I want good sushi, I'm definitely coming here. I love sushi and I'm always on the hunt for the good stuff. My favorite rolls to get almost every time I come are the Godzilla, Sexy Mexican, Mango Tataki (I think that's the name -- it's the first one on the Chef's Specials menu), Chicago Fire and Sweetheart. You can try anything and you won't be disappointed. The chefs do an amazing job and can sub out or omit anything at your request. They are very accommodating. The service-- I love Anna and Lin!!! I appreciate everyone who works there. They are all super friendly and always in a great mood. We regularly visit Sushi Ukai so the wait staff knows us and always jokes around. I always get a family feel and welcome vibes when I come here and I hope you do too. I never have to flag down someone for more water or hot tea, or even for the check. It's already done before I can even say anything. The girls are always checking on us. The ambiance is a dimly ish lit restaurant. Don't worry it's not that dark! Haha there's enough light for your to see your food and whoever you went with but it's warm and cozy. The front room is a fun experience too! You take your shoes off and sit Japanese style -- it's a super cute authentic feel. If you're not already saving Sushi Ukai in LaGrange to your "want to visit" places are you even getting ready to have the best sushi restaurant experience of your life?! Okay I might be biased, but like I said -- I love this place! Go. Visit. Now. Then let me know how your experience goes! read more

Haven't been to sushi ukai in a while but wanted to give a quick review. The staff is very friendly and service is usually pretty solid! The interior is nice and clean, it can get busy depending on when you come in so just prepare for that. I, myself, am not a big sushi fan but my SO always enjoys the food. I usually get Dan Dan noodles which is incredible, the presentation on the dish is very vibrant as well. I've also had takeout which is just as good. Keep up the good work! read more

Always fresh. Very consistent. Food is always good. Also very good service, friendly staff.

Everything I've had so far has been delicious! Fresh ingredients and consistency at all times! The staff is wonderful as well!

First time here. Overall, felt the service was pretty consistent in that the staff was attentive, friendly, and quick. The place is clean and well lit. The drinks were good. I like their sake inspired cocktails particularly the pineapple-sake one. Cocktails were around 11$ each which is good. I also had the sake flight which was okay, but for 15$. We had both the vegetarian and fish options. The fish ones were very good and the vegetarian ones were okay. read more

I have been ordering from here for years and the sushi is always excellent. Very flavorful rolls and fresh fish and fast service.

My second time here and the sashimi was fresh both times and both times on the weekend. Gomae was a big portion so my husband and I could share. I guess their Shanghai dumplings were trying to mimic gyoza so the sauce was a little off. The restaurant usually fills up by 6:30pm so I'm glad we enjoy eating earlier. I was looking for a restaurant that wouldn't be as crowded on Easter as some of the other places. Found this place in La grange, friendly staff and the place was not crowded at all! The surrounding area was super cute too! Cute boutiques nearby. I started with a house salad and garlic dressing it was just lettuce and baby spinach. I typically only getting it for the dressing! We started out the sweetheart roll. They shape two pieces into a heart which was cute. It was wrapped in fish but still super fishy. Also, added the Philly roll (standard roll), fiesta roll and spicy Mexican roll! Out of the four rolls fiesta and spicy Mexican rolls were the best. read more

Great service and the fish is very fresh. Its very relaxing. We will definitely be back.

I've been here twice and the sushi has not disappoint every time Last night we tried the sweet heart roll and after we ate it, the server let us know that the tuna came in fresh that morning! So, so, soooo good. The soft shell crab looked amazing but was bland, lemon juice really saved the dish. I was hoping for something more savory. I was also here a week before with my cousin. They have the most sweetest moscato. I'm a fake drinker so it was perfect to wash down the sushi. I also recommend the Spicy Mexican. Huge pieces of fish inside. This place certainly does not skip out on quality or portions. Then Dan Dan noodles also were slightly bland as well. It was my first time having it so I'm not sure how it is suppose to taste but I did enjoy the thickness and texture of the noodles. A great place! Better to come during the week. Yesterday was Friday and they had a line out the door for pickup! In their defense , each order looked huge. We also had to wait 15 mins for our 8 o'clock reservation. Not bad in my opinion (I've waited longer at less quality places), but I'm sure they take as many people as they can say specially in these rough times. read more

We found this hidden gem about a year ago! This is the only sushi restaurant I know that offers black rice.
