Mariano's stores have a classy vibe. They exude an aura of quality. Their stores have an excellent ambiance. When I walk in, I notice the stores are well-organized with phenomenal displays. I value that Mariano's stores typically have a wide variety and selection. It is also superb that they have a dining area. I have appreciated the ability to obtain prepared foods at Mariano's, including delicacies like sushi. I have found other great prepared foods at Mariano's that I enjoyed a lot, e.g,. succulent beef pot roast. It is fantastic that Mariano's have self checkout kiosks, which can help with convenience. There are also a significant number of Mariano's stores in Chicagoland. read more

Marianos was a classy operation until Kroger bought it. Now the store is dingy and the shopping carts are filthy. The spirits are under lock and key, and you will die of old age waiting for someone to take the time respond to your push button request for assistance, like I almost did tonight. Many (not all) staff members are indifferent to customer needs and project very clearly that they would much rather being doing something else. Maybe Kroger will once again try to sell Marianos. In the meantime, it will be a shadow of its former self. Sad to watch. read more

I dropped in to buy a few things since I was in the area. I've only been here once before since it's out of my way. On a Saturday morning, store was nearly empty which should have given me a clue since most grocers are jam packed on the weekend. Pricy merchandise but you are paying for the name. Anyway, I was at the checkout, next in line, and the cashier asked me to move to another line. I asked her why and she stated that it would be quicker. The other lines were literally 4-6 people deep. The woman who was being checked out in front of me got angry before I did and said, no, she's not moving. She is next. When it was my turn, just an overall odd transaction, poc know that funny vibe when the service is biased. Micro aggressions. I'm a Latina and I definitely got that unwelcome vibe. Mariano's revolutionized Chicago grocery stores. Jewel has been owned by Albertsons for years/decades, Mariano's is now owned by Kroger/Food for less. Hence the cheapening out of food/changed. Bob Mariano was the guy behind the direction of Dominicks and the fresh market concept/different ethnic food groups until they sold out to Safeway in 1998. Mariano's (when they were amazing) used to be Roundys which was based in Wisconsin. Now Krogers , the owner and parent company of Mariano's ,has done nothing but lesson the great Mariano's food and services for years ruining the brand and now they involved with a merger and are selling it off. I shopped Mariano's for years. With other options nearby, I hadn't shopped there in about a year. They are now just straight up price gouging. I had 3 different things on my list that have inexplicable markups...30% markups!!! How can they justify charging $6 for the same box of snack crackers Target sells for $4.00?! DON'T SHOP AT THIS WORTHLESS 2nd Most Expensive Grocery CHAIN (owned by cheapskates Kroger!) NOTE:! A year ago they WERE my favorite foods from all sides of God's green Earth! Just last week I heard a manager openly say, "Where the F***! are those 2 girls!" So! Foul-mouth Miss! This is how you really feel about your underlings! So, Today I decided I would see if there was a snow-balls chance in Hell reason that I should continue to patronize the now constantly in decline train-wreck! Called Mariano's! And my Resounding Answer is NO! Or as the the saying goes! NEVER AGAIN! The only thing I found in the whole entire store was the $6.99! Half gallon of freshly squeezed Orange Juice! (To think I used to buy $400 at one time and now I couldn't even break $10! How utterly pathetic of the Chain that was once poisoned to take over Target! (But Kroger lacks the brains, common sense, and simple investments that could propel them above Target! Instead, Mariano's is literally being flushed down the toilet!). So, here's everything that went SOUTH of HEAVEN for Mariano's today! 1) ROTTEN FOOD! I was stunned! Every one of the reduced packages of cherry tomatoes was rotten! (See pictures below!). Up to this point every thing on the reduced fruit and vegetable end cap was just a little old or bruised! But not rotten! The last thing I wanted to do was eat something rotten and get sick! 2) The continued overuse and deception of supposedly lower prices with the use of DIGITAL COUPONS! (No employee has ever taken the time to register me for DIGITAL COUPONS!). And even with them MARIANO's is still twice as expensive on black cherries as the Mexican Fruit Market! (See pictures below)! 3). Once again I use self-checkout! There are 6 bays! And all the employees are busy talking with each other instead of potentially acting proactively to help customers! (See pictures of the bays without an employee in sight!). (Too bad the best millennial, and Mariano's employee they ever had! A fine Hispanic woman! She helped me a record 6 times at the self-checkout! Without my even asking! Then I found out how dedicated to family that she truly was! She left for Mexico to take care of her ailing grandmother! On September 6 2023 at 4:45PM (relevant for manager work schedule), I went into Mariano's in Westchester IL to pick up a few things. My wife usually does the shopping, as I am visually impaired, but she was out of town. When I arrived at the checkout, there were only two cashiers working, and the lines were very long. This is absurd given the prices this store charges. That fact notwithstanding, I am unable to do self-checkout due to my eye condition. I found an employee and asked her to get me the store manager, which she went to request. Apparently, the store manager at that time could not be bothered with me to resolve my dilemma, so the employee helped me check out. By the time we finished, and corrected the several pricing errors that were not in my favor, the store manager still had no shown up. I will never spend another penny in this store. Apparently, this company does not even want to pay enough people to take the customer's money. Then, the store manager could not be bothered with a visually impaired customer's attempt to pay for the goods when she wouldn't pay anyone else to do so. Not only should the story manager be terminated, but so should the regional manager, as I am certain he/she constrained budgets at the store level to feed his own bonus. Then the store manager has to feed her own bonus, and the overall result is a drastic disbenefit to the customers whose money is funding those bonuses. Additionally, the regional manager apparently has no policies in place requiring store managers to tend to the needs of disabled customers, leaving them free to completely disregard them. Kroger should go back to the states where it came from. Maybe they get away with this type of irresponsibility there, but it will cost them revenues here. read more

When this Westchester store opened...it was the jewel in their crown. Now like most of the chain, it's gone way down. Selection is reduced. Service is terrible, and the staff is nowhere as clean and professional as they were 3-4 years ago. More "Roundy's" house brands have been replaced by Kroger. It won't b we long until "Kroger" is the name on the door. And the store actually looks dirty. Only one live cashier was operating tonight. Not only am I paying higher prices for food that has gone down in quality...now I have to work to check out my groceries? I won't be back. Mariano's will go the way of Dominick's. So this has been my go to grocery store since opening. Has always had friendly staff, great product selection and cleanliness. Seems like their standards have changed and all of the above has changed. I understand there's some issues with supply chain and finding people that actually want to work but it seems like some of the decisions being made at the corporate level are solely based on profits not customer experience/expectations. Having zero cashier's open at 9am on a Monday is completely unacceptable. 3 people standing around "watching" self checkout but no cashier. When asked if someone would be opening, I was told "when they get around to it". You open at 6am? If you are going to "force" customers to work for their food then at the least please make it a convenient smooth process. How about installing some self checkout lanes with conveyors instead of trying to bag over $150 worth of groceries in an area thats not much bigger then the cart i used to shop. Even Aldi has this option available if customers choose. For the prices you're charging let's at least upgrade to better equipment. FYI - I have a job and am not looking for another gig so I haven't received training on cashier duties, so I can't guarantee my accuracy. Another suggestion is have friendly people working the front of the store so the elderly/less tech savvy who are having difficulties ringing up their own groceries don't get talked down to and made to feel like 2nd class citizens. This portion of my visit was a total failure by Marianos on many levels. With all that being said, I don't live in a "food desert" and have many options for my grocery shopping needs, hell I can get them delivered directly to my house from other places for the prices you charge. Let's at least pretend that the customer's that walk through the door are an important to the company and try harder. Please don't contact me regarding this review, actions speak louder then words. I go to the Mariano's few times a week because it is convenient and has very good quality produce and anything I usually need for food. I've had nothing but great experiences here! One sale-girl from the deli is so delightful!  I've been doing instant cart and some of the males that work on the floor that stock the shelves always ask me if I need help finding something! That's amazing customer service. There's a really young Caucasian male and another man who I thought was his manager that deserve a raise for working so hard! The men behind the meat counter are so sweet also. I've never ever had a bad experience here. It's my favorite grocery store!!!! Even the cashiers and baggers are friendly. There was a young lady that even helped me push a cart overflowing with groceries to my car. I wanted to give her a tip for helping me. That was so caring! I had 2 carts full of groceries and she saw I was struggling! They should be allowed to accept tips for their hard work and/or get a raise! The produce section is heaven if you like a variety of fresh, quality fruits and vegetables!!!  All else is that of a typical grocery store. A variety of different cuisines and styles of food spices, ingredients and seasonings can be found. The prices are good and everyone working there is nice. Weekends it might be busy and harder to find a spot to park, but one will open up. There is also a nice sized bike rack at the front of the the parking lot. Our bagger threw apricots and figs in with boxes of oatmeal so they got crushed and the only reason I couldn't give them 5 stars. read more

We went on a Sunday evening and it was no where near closing time. The cooked food and produce sections looked pathetic. Everything was out of stock. The service is not like other Mariano's either. The cashier was not friendly. At the seafood counter, the employee behind the counter was no where to be found. I love Mariano's. Seriously. I drive from Berwyn to shop here. But I think that's going to change because the employees are STILL not wearing masks. It's legally required now, and they're still not wearing them. I was there this morning and two of the three employees in the meat counter either had their mask down on their chin or didnt even have one on at all. Edited a week later to add: Unlike other grocery stores, no one is at front to ensure that people entering are wearing masks. So many customers wandering around with their masks pulled down or without masks at all. No one is paying attention at all to the one-way aisles, and it's not being enforced (it doesn't help that at least one aisle has contradicting signage). This is problematic because Mariano's has started putting more stuff on the floors, blocking parts of the aisle. It took me an hour and a half to do a simple grocery run because I kept having to wait for people going the wrong way to move so I could get past them. I've been shopping here for years but won't be coming back until they start enforcing the masks. And if you're not going to bother with the one-way aisles, then just take the signs down and open up the aisles again. read more

Mariano's - Just a sample of their job , beside the bad attitude that that have - A whole fish has been grilled and is resting on crumpled aluminum foil. The fish has visible grill marks and some areas of charring, indicating it was cooked over an open flame or grill. The fish appears to be seasoned or glazed, with some juices or sauce on its surface. They sold us a six pack of hard cider that was expired by more than a YEAR. We only found out after a sip tasted completely skunky. We went back the next day and they refused to refund or replace it. I used to really love this store, until Kroger took over. Now I have to constantly check to see if products are being sold past the expiration date. And I mean EVERYTHING... from the carrots, spinach, and celery in produce, to the yogurt, bread, lunch meats, can goods, and sauces. I am tired of buying things like potatoes which look ok on the outside but end up all being spoiled. I shop here because it is only 2 blocks from my house. They no longer carry many specialty ethnic items / seasonings which is forcing me to start shopping at other grocery stores like Pete's. Kroger and this management team has ruined a great store. Among the groceries around this location, I can say that this store is the best. After going in here for a few times, the store consistently provides good quality products and great customer service. The store is also always clean and organized. The selections are always well-kept. The produce section is always fresh including their seafood section. I remember buying something from their seafood counter and it was fresh and in a good quality as well. They also have a recommendable bakery section with freshly baked goodies and other pastry products like cake, cupcakes and the likes. I also tried buying a cake from here and it was really good. The prices on everything they have in the store is seriously reasonable and they would always have sale on many products. I could not ask for more each time I go in here because they literally provide everything I needed. read more

Am I really writing my 300th review on a grocery store? Well, I guess I am. One of my best friends happens to be a bread man who delivers to various Marianos, so hopefully he'll be proud. We spent our Friday date night going to the grocery store, folks. Cuz that's what it's come to. But y'know what? Mariano's is actually a pretty cool place to hang out. This particular store has a wine bar, an oyster bar (with happy hour specials) as well as a sushi bar, hot bar stations and a variety of other things. I suppose we should've bought our groceries for the week while we were there, but truth be told we were too distracted by all the non-grocery areas that we completely forgot. Oh well. I'm not really super-impressed with Mariano's produce, but luckily they have enough other impressive things to make me forget about that too. My first experience with Marianos was with the Elmhurst store, which opened about a year and a half ago. The new Westchester store is pretty much laid out exactly like Elmhurst, except they have the aforementioned oyster bar, a bbq area, Crumbs Cupcake counter, and wine bar. (Really? No wine bar in Elmhurst? Do they not know their customers or what?) Since I've never seen one before, I decided to try some of the BBQ and got a few ribs to sample. The sauce was nice and caramelized, and had a nice tang to it. By far it's not great BBQ, but it's good for grocery store BBQ. My wife got her favorite quinoa salad and a few things from the deli. After my meal, I got a small gelato from the Vero cafe. Coconut. And just so you know, even the smalls are huge and more than enough for one person. I didn't love my choice, but should've sampled it ahead of time. The friendly counter folks are more than happy to allow freebie bites. I was going to get one of the Crumbs cupcakes, but that was a comedy of errors that just became ridiculous. The poor kid who works that counter also works the popcorn area, and the machines are SO LOUD he couldn't even hear me. We played a game of "Who's on first" before I finally gave up and walked away without my cupcake. So overall it's a really nice store with lots of great options for a quick meal. The grocery prices are fair, and the food is fresh. Oh, and they will grill your meat or seafood for you right there in the store. That alone is worth making a trip. read more

I've tried it a few times and loved it. -Maple Bacon Donuts - Do we really need to go over this? -The BAR's- A lot of things that impresses me about this place I'll admit I don't use, mostly all the different bar's Sushi,Oyster,Wine,Oil/vinger etc) It's like those's added features in the car that you don't need but want. A little expensive here and little cheap there. Basically all grocery stores play this game. I'll head over to Pete's if I'm just getting fruit and veggie's.This isn't Binny's beverage depot, however Marian's do have a better beer/wine selection compared to other grocery stores. I have absolutely no complaints about the new Mariano's in Westchester. While looking for a good place to meet up with a friend to catch up over a cup of coffee and a snack, I discovered Mariano's. I felt a little strange at first telling my friend that we would be meeting up at a grocery store, but I did not regret my decision in the slightest. Wonderful aspects of this Mariano's: + Prices are reasonable! Some of the prices were even better than Trader Joe's. I picked up organic free range eggs and plain organic Greek yogurt for a competitive price, which is not something I was expecting. + Ample seating in a little cafe-like area among the many food options + Fresh food options, including breakfast, coffee, oysters, wine, and wood-fired pizzas. Yes, please! + TONS of free samples! I had a substantial afternoon snack with the many options, including different olive oils (yum, chocolate balsamic), breads, butters, etc. + Very friendly and helpful staff. Everyone seemed like they were in a good mood and were happy to answer my questions (or offer free samples). + It's clean and pristine. + I had no issues parking near the entrance in the parking lot. Like all Mariano's, this one has definitely gone downhill since Kroeger took over. The oyster bar is gone. There are pallets everywhere. I realize there's a pandemic going-on, but the shelves were bare (Sunday night), and the store felt dirty. Mariano's has basically become Jewel with higher prices. At 6:30am, supposed "senior hours", employees walk into the store unmasked. Several employees shopping for delivery or pickup are NOT wearing masks. This location has become my go-to store for regular grocery shopping and now also special event catering and floral. I recently had a party of about 40 ppl and ordered these items: chicken milanese, mac and cheese, oriechette w/ oilve oil and garlic and parm, grilled veggies, handmade meatballs regular size and sausage and peppers. I would recommend their hot foods to anyone -- and if you want to try first everything is either avail at the hot bar daily, or the deli "take home complete meals" section. Very good but I ordered the oriechette cold, instead of hot -- PLEASE order it hot, or heat it at home it is SOOO much better that way. For 40 ppl I paid around 400.00. I had plenty of leftovers as I always over order and had a few no shows -- not bad, considering.. I find their prices are comparable to that of a Meijer with their generic brand being Roundy's. Roundy's is pretty solid in all types of items. I find it cheaper than Jewel. They carry all major brands, they have a nice floral dept, bakery, GREAT butcher, good selection of produce and organics, a tasty quality sushi bar, an oyster bar with beer tappers, and a wine bar. Their butcher and seafood depts will grill or steam all items for you while you shop, for free -- same as other stores and a HUGE perk if you are picking up lunch or dinner on the fly. This review is about pharmacy only. Here's the thing. Mariano's is the "fancy" grocery store in the area. My Westchester neighbors and I anticipated that the new Mariano's would not only bring the gorgeous produce and the fresh-bread aromas of an on-site bakery, but it would have Ritz-Carlton caliber staff, as well. ( I was thinking like Nordstrom, where staff are universally nice) That's why I was so taken aback when I had not one, but three negative customer service incidents at Mariano's pharmacy. Apparently, I am a major inconvenience to the staff. All I have to do is show up to elicit a heavy sigh from the pharmacy counter staff. I never wonder "Will I be greeted?" Instead, I must steel myself to deflect a lot of angry attitude. I have been told, most directly, that I have placed a great deal of stress and extra work on the shoulders of the Mariano's pharmacists. Some examples: "(Sigh) We've had this (prescription) ready for quite a while." Also, "(Sigh) You clicked the wrong button before signing. Now I need to re-ring the order." Or, "(Sigh) We're closing up. But I guess you got in just under the wire." I have decided never to inconvenience this pharmacy again. read more

Still 5 stars. I can't go shopping myself because of C19 and have been using their pickup and delivery services and they are on top of everything. The employees are professional and call if anything isn't in stock and ask if substitutions are okay, they wear gloves and masks, the deliveries are always on time. read more

I've shopped here multiple times. I was with my one-year-old boy, and whoever you're hiring is just not friendly at all. I work in the customer service-based industry and I give 100% or at least try to! I NEVER leave anyone feeing like shit after They leave. I forgot my Mariano's card (god forbid) and I remember putting my phone number in. It was just never registered by who ever had me signed a piece of paper. I told the cashier I had a Mariano's card and my number didn't register. She didn't even try to help me out and just let me pay full price, no emotion at all. Just the whole experience was stupid. I had high expectations of this place, which is why I come here when I can. Unfortunately, this is just not an atmosphere I want to be a part of or support. On a positive note: to the gentleman with the long blonde hair pushing carts, I feel as though he should be the one in a grumpy mood... he was the one who turned it all around and made leave the parking lot less upset. Buyer beware! Check your receipt to assure all your digital coupons are being applied when you use your Mariano's card. I have had issues every time I use it and have to go to customer service to get the errors corrected. I spoke with a manager today and was told "this has never happened". No apology, just a suggestion that I reapply for a new card. I would have thought in the very least he could have taken the time to correct the issue. No matter jewel and Tischler don't require a card. Unfortunately Mariano's in Westchester is still having trouble getting the correct pricing into their checkout system. I was overcharged $6 on a $22 bill. I brought this to the attention of customer service and they agreed that I was over charged but they couldn't figure out by how much. I'm not sure why. One of my favorite grocery stores around town. It's huge, clean, well-organized and very nice and helpful crews too. They have good selections of all grocery items, meat/seafood section, fruits/vegetable section, freshly baked bread and pastries, various cheeses, ice cream and dairy products, everything. You end up buying way more than you planned and it's all delicious. Lots of stock on shelves, lots of things to choose from. Multiple choices to compare against each other. Employees excellent to deal with. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Always willing to help. Great place to go for the price and then when you want to find something that's organic read more

I love Marianos's but I have not been digging this location much lately. I got here about 9:55am & NO BREAKFAST BAR. So I got soup, some fruit and salad. Not a fork to be found. Something scared the hell out of me- I look and there are 3 boys screaming and laughing but the window in front of the coffee shop. A lady standing waiting to be helped. No one is at the express checkout so I can pay for my soup and salad bar tray.... when I go to the coffee bar for help, the kids are still gabbing to three other teenage employees. Sitting at the tables. The ringleader of this conversation, a kid with curls & a bad bleach job gives me a stinky look.... seriously? I found that this location has way too many teenagers working. Too many teenagers goofing off. 6 of them this morning while no one is at the check out and theirs are no napkins or forks. Ugh read more
