Along with seeing what is offered in comparison to other grocery stores I shop at regularly, I visited this Food4Less because I found that in stock were Jimmy Dean Plant-Based Patty, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches which I have been looking for as of late. This Food4Less location just happened to be one of the nearest to me at the time while out in Melrose Park. As for this visit, I nearly had to circle around to find a parking spot to park my vehicle because the parking lot itself was congested the time I visited. The atmosphere inside felt very relaxed, a very chill vibe for sure! Other than that, I must say that it was a break shopping here in comparison to a Jewel-Osco, Pete's Fresh Market, or Mariano's location. Now along with the shelved items being organized, the market is acceptably clean, and the aisles have plenty of maneuvering space. Moreover, this Food4Less location has a very warehouse-like appearance. I particularly searched for the items I visited for like the box of Jimmy Dean Plant-Based Patty, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches, and Boost nutrition drinks which I found without any assistance needed. Other shelved items I took a liking to were a box of limited-edition throwback of pop tarts, a box of Jimmy Dean Plant-Based Crumbles, and a 12 fl oz of ez night sleep which I was shocked at its price. For the most part, I enjoyed shopping at Food4Less, but I just cannot see myself shopping at this particular location on a regular basis due to it being out of my way. They really need to put an asterisk after the name as the prices are great for some things but the same, if not more, for others. First the pros: the place is close to my job, so I can run there with not too much effort. The store itself is clean and the aisles are wide (have to be in order to use those big ass carts that they have). It is a self serve store from the perspective that you have to bag your own groceries, but they do provide plastic bags. Not sure if they are provided at all of their locations, but found it interesting that they are still using bags and not charging fo them. They really have some nice looking produce for the most part, but gotta say that I have yet to find any decent cherry tomatoes. They always look soggy and you can see moisture at the bottom of the containers. Their baked goods are also nice...good solid selection of cookies, donuts and pastries. I have actually ordered party trays from their Deli and they do a good job. Because there is a large Hispanic population in the area, they carry some great food products that I have not seen in the stores in my neighborhood. One brand in particular is Deal Real prepared meats, rice and beans...makes for a quick and easy meal and is flavorful. They make a great quick meal (chicken, barbacoa, pork (carnitas and asada) and steak). They even have prepared guacamole if you do not feel like making it fresh. Nice selection of beer, wine and some sparkling wines. The downside is that some of the prices for wine are what I would pay at Jewel or even more. Also customer service can be lacking, depending on who you are dealing with...it is hit or miss. My biggest complaint is not the people who work there, but the people who shop there. The store itself is quick to get to and easy to get your stuff and get in line. Getting out of line is the issue. Some of the folks are very slow when it comes to emptying their groceries onto the conveyor belt, paying for them and (Sweet Black Baby Jesus help us all) bagging their groceries at the end of a transaction. That is the biggest hold up. I have no problem bagging my own stuff, but I am way quicker at doing it as I use my Mariano's containers to do so. Watching folks put one thing at a time into a bag while talking on the phone has made me come close to committing a felony several times. Ending on a positive note, they do open early (6 a.m.), so I try to schedule trips in the morning before heading into the office. Not a terrible experience, just be careful of the prices. I went in here to exchange a bottle of Ranch dressing. I stood at the nasty customer service counter for about 10 mins, which during that time about 3-4 employees made eye contact with me and none of which came over to help. I pushed that customer service button to the right of the counter. Did absolutely nothing. My boyfriend then walked over to a woman who was adding bags to her station and she seemed annoyed with him that he came and asked about someone working the customer service desk. She then helped us, but it was a very unpleasant experience. Should have just returned the bottle instead of giving them my money. Notice the broken sign they couldn't even change at the customer service desk. It should be much cleaner for being a place that supplies your food. read more

I'm tempted to give this store 2 or 2 & a half stars because I'm so sick of dealing with cashiers that have attitude problems. Of course not all of them are like this, but I've been here enough times to notice they're not the most friendliest crew. Don't like your job? Too bad. Join the club, ladies. But because of this "economic crisis" we got going on, I'm forced to take your shit if it means I get some things at a good price. As far as everything else goes, you can definitely find some good bargains. Pretty good prices on meat, but I'd rather shop at Tony's if I want fresher quality. The store is pretty giant. As somebody mentioned, it does have a warehouse feel to it. All in all, a pretty good store for sale items. But I think they like to act a little better than they are as far as price competition goes. They say we bag the groceries ourselves so they can keep their prices low. Food4Less - Grocery Near Me - Melrose Park, Illinois

Seeking a good price on Diet Pepsi, I came across an ad for Food for Less with a three for $10 deal. It was one of the better sales I've seen because once one satisfied the three case minimum, each case thereafter was priced at $3.33 rather than having to buy the pop in units of three cases each. Kudos. Upon walking in the store, one sees a myriad of low priced options as they make their way to the aisles. Some decent deals there. But... upon going into the store, I discovered that the prices weren't all that great - in fact quite the same as Jewel or Mariano's. I picked up two packages of flour tortillas whose price wasn't marked on the stand. Everywhere I've bought them, they've been $1.99, so I picked up a couple of packages. But at checkout, there were $2.19 - ten percent more than competitors. Looking at frozen and refrigerated foods I see items priced the same or more than other stores. Not what it's cranked up to be. How has no one written a review for this place? I started shopping at the one in Forest Park back when I was in Oak Park in 2004 or so. That one did not impress me and I soon moved on to Dominick's closer to my place. This one is fantastic. Granted, you have to bag your own groceries and the lines can be long, but the prices and sheer volume of product here is amazing. I was laid-off for two months last year and this place seriously cut our food budget by 50-75% which was tremendously helpful during an already stressful time. I love the way the store is laid-out and these have to be the widest aisles I have experienced in a grocery - I have never been "trapped" by a looky-loo here the way you are everytime you go to Whole Paycheck. And, if you happen to have a large family or like to buy in bulk, this is the place for you - large portions of chicken pieces, other meats and frozen foods all for the taking! read more

Kroger owns Food 4 Less and Mariano's and now has a bid to own Jewel! This has to stop. Years ago Kroger tried to build their own brand (Kroger) in the Chicago area but was not allowed to. So, Kroger built Cub Foods which was rebranded to Food 4 Less. So, Kroger is sneaking in the back door and trying to take over almost the entire regular grocery chain landscape in Chicago. Voice your opinion as you can. Kroger would take over Jewel in 2024 is their monopoly bit is approved by regulators. Mariano's has gone down hill since they took over and I don't care to shop there since that happened. It will only get worse if Kroger is allowed to take over Jewel and strip it from what it's always been. NO to Kroger! They need to be stopped. If all the Food 4 Less, Mariano's and Jewel stores were rebranded as Kroger stores would you like that? H___ NO! Yes, Walmart (Sam's), Costco, Aldi's, Amazon & Pete's are separate for now but Kroger taking over Chicago's biggest main grocer (Jewel) should not be allowed given their hunger to take over the Chicago area & their noted ability to take down any grocery chain and make it into a disguised Kroger. This grocery store is alright i'd say. Not a big fan, but i do come here to get the cheaper things. Just the essentials and such things. It's not quite clean though. But i believe it has to do with the area that is located as well as the people that they attract. I'm no saying it in a bad way, but you get what you pay for. Well I never see a manager in the store the lines are always long and they are always always out of everything, and I asked If they had beyond meat products the meat guy said people don't buy them that's why we don't orders them anymore. This place has a warehouse feel to it and you have to pack your own groceries, but that translates to big savings over your typical Jewel or Dominick's. The produce always looks decent and the meat is not bad either. They carry generic Kroger brands, which are very inexpensive compared to brand names. As far as I can tell, the quality is good as well. A couple of pet peeves: 1. The parking lot is small and often full. 2. The deli service is extremely slow. 3. No matter when you go, expect to stand in a long ass line. read more

I've actually stopped here a few times on my lunch hour when I've needed groceries. It's a nice store. I would say pretty comparable to Jewel. I can't say I noticed if they were *that* much cheaper than regular stores...but it's a one stop shop -and they have most everything that one would need. It's really hard for me to try new things. I did the other day - It's probably why the weather went crazy. I went to Food 4 Less instead of my regular grocery shopping haunt. I tried this new experience because I was I wanted to get their cupcakes for someone as a gift, (this person really liked the frosting - I did too - I used it as a dipping "cream" of sorts with strawberries). I arrived after a long drive from work, but was pleasantly surprised to find a decent parking place, however the lot could have been a bit more clean, (although, it had been windy - so this may not have been due to their negligence). I retrieved a cart that someone had left outside of the cart return. Once inside the store the aisles were wide and clean. Sale items were clearly showcased and available. The floors were clean of trash and dust. I asked a woman who was sweeping the floor about light-bulbs and through broken English she was able to direct me quickly without any problems - and she smiled. The cashier was very pleasant, professional and patient. She was surprised that it was my first visit to their store. Will I return - sure. Their prices were pretty good. The store was clean, Staff were courtesy - it's just breaking old habits is hard... Time will surely tell. read more

This store is a disgusting horror show that doesn't deserve even one star. In my opinion, the customers and staff have no manners, no common sense and no brains. The checkers frequently don't know what they're scanning, you'd better watch the screen carefully. Lines are allowed to snake through the store without new lines being opened. The produce is often stale and frequently filthy. Some items, not all, are cheaper than Jewel, but there's nothing at this store that you can't get cheaper and better at Tony's. This is a Kroger store and that brings fond memories from my childhood,shoppin' with Granny down in Alabama!!Some very low prices on some things,not so much on others. Way cheaper than Jewel and Dominick's with the same or better selection. Similar to the Cub Foods or Ultra Foods experience. One thing I don't like about this store is that some of the items are organized together by brands, instead of type of food or item. So, if you're looking for some sort of Mexican item or canned soup, you may need to look in two or three aisles. So, since I've only gone a couple of times so far, if I have a big trip to make, I go to Ultra Foods on Roosevelt in Forest Park instead, because I know the layout of that store better. read more

This is a decent sized grocery store , alright deli selection , nothing too exotic. No butcher , fish monger , but they do have fresh meat out already. The quality of the meat varies , they consistantly have marked down meat really close to expiration. I'm willing to pay a little more so my meat isn't brown , thank you. The produce dept is pretty good , decent size , solid selection , again nothing too exotic. where this place shines is it's variety of dry and frozen foods. It has a good selection of frozen fish , dinners , veggies etc. . The prices here vary from good to higher than average , overall they are alright. Checkout sucks though because you have to bag everything yourself. This is acceptable at Aldi because you definitely save some bucks .Here , prices are so similar to other stores that for some reason it pisses me off . read more

Definitely one of the best places to get groceries. Your money does go a long way. The only reason I'm not giving it a complete 5 stars is because sometimes the employees are not the friendliest at the register but if you don't have to deal with them other than to just pay and get out then you're good. Love the store, will NEVER go back to that gas station. The woman who works there during the week days needs to go. What a b***h. I got shorted change, still standing right there I turn around a tell her, she didn't give me the correct amount back, her words..." girl, no I didn't. You must of dropped it. Great store with a very large selection of foods fresh and frozen. Plenty of parking but this store gets packed fast so try shopping early morning, afternoon. Get registered and get discounts on gas fill ups! That's right they have a gas station and for every $100 or more of food purchase you get 10 cents off the price of each gallon of gas. It's not easy finding cheaper gas as it's is in my neighborhood so 10 additional cents off each gallon is a hard to pass up. The only down side to shopping here is that you have to bag your own groceries but most stores have you doing that nowadays so I'm use to it. read more

I am horrified with this place their employees were so rude and management is lost, their employee Priscilla B is completely uneducated started screaming at me got in my face and almost got physical with me.They refused to sell me me alcohol because 1 out the 3 ppl i was with didn't have their ID.So next time you wanna buy wine go alone or somewhere else witch i recommend because chances are ,you go with your children they might not sell it to you your 10 yr old might get carded. read more
