I had not been to this Trader Joe's in a while. My past experience in the store had been that the prices were very high and that the selection of items was not very good. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was no longer the case. Yes , the prices were slightly higher than my regular grocery store, but not extremely high. This Trader Joe's has a great location conveniently near downtown Oak Park. I had 2 oranges at this store that may have been the best oranges I have ever had in my life. I have enjoyed some of their prepared food options. I relished multiple tofu items that I have gotten at this store. They have a cool variety of food. I have been able to get in and out of the store relatively quickly, compared with other grocery stores. I have been grateful for getting good food here. read more

What an awesome Trader Joe's! This has been my go-to Trader Joe's ever since moving to the area half a year ago. They have everything you need here - out of all the Trader Joe's I've been to (which yes, is a lot), this one is heavily stocked 99% of the time. Very rarely they won't have certain TJ products I'm looking for but again, it's extremely rare and that's how it is at all Trader Joes for me. This location is a little on the smaller side and located at the bottom of an apartment building (although you'd never think it since it has its own storefront and entrance). The parking can get a little tight during peak hours since it's not the biggest lot, but I've never had a problem finding parking within 5 minutes. People are constantly going and leaving. The staff here is so awesome. I seriously loved every cashier I've ever had! Sometimes I see familiar faces but usually it's different employees I get every time. They're very helpful and friendly. This Trader Joe's is clean, stocked, has a personable staff, easily accessible, and overall is a great grocery store. Definitely recommend this location! read more

Trader Joe's in Oak Park is excellent. They're usually well-stocked, and the staff is friendly and efficient. But that parking lot! I know it's a bit of a cliche to rag on TJ's parking lots, but in Oak Park, you are taking your life in your hands trying to park at peak times. read more

I had to write another review for this location because of how incredible of a job this team is doing during COVID-19. From their sanitary practices to their creative social distancing reminders, this location makes it a lot less stressful to shop during this time. They had their team members monitoring how many guests are coming in and outside of the store. You really can't enter until someone exits. They had a few people assigned to sanitizing carts outside after use and directed people to which were the clean ones. They have quirky signs to read outside in the line and even an associate that walked out by our line to see how everyone was and if anyone needed water- how amazing is that!?! That type of thoughtfulness is never expected but greatly appreciated. Wow! They continued their social distancing reminders inside on the floor with stickers and signage. The store was surprisingly well stocked too! During checkout, they have dividers to separate you from the associate and again, reminders of where to stand on the floor. All around, such a wonderful experience and another reason why I love this company! Great work you all! read more

It was the hair that caught my eye first. That damn hair... Even before I had made my way through the convenient automatic double doors and into the warm and inviting atmosphere of Trader Joe's Store #697, that miraculous mane had me mesmerized. Majestic, perfectly coifed; surely the man set beneath this glorious crown of follicles must be equally magnificent. And that he was. That... he... was. Just below the hairline, his proud, prominent forehead signified his gentle, yet masculine intent. Deep set eyes, burning with passion, cutting deep, directly into the psyche of any soul fortunate or unfortunate enough to enter his steely gaze. Today, that soul was me. I quickly ducked behind an expertly displayed stack of Charles Shaw® wine. I often enjoy the occasional glass of Charles Shaw® wine for their refined flavors at a price that won't break the budget. Yet Charles Shaw® and their uniquely crafted variety of wines was the furthest thing from my mind in that moment. After what felt like an eternity, I dared a peek from out my ramshackle shelter at the man with whom I was completely transfixed. He simply exuded confidence. From his laid back demeanor, to his aloha button-down Hawaiian shirt, he had the look of a man who knew what he wanted. He was playing it cool. Acting like he wasn't aware of what had just transpired between us: that brief moment of eye contact, however short, that was all it took. Our souls were forever bound. Linked in eternity, two paths intermingling in a beautiful procession. A sudden, loud voice from near to my left jolted me to my senses. "What do you mean the Shakshuka Starter is discontinued? How can I live without my Shakshuka Starter?" A man was gesturing wildly near the checkout lane. His movement quickly became more and more frantic as he struggled to cope with his new reality, and within an instant he had collapsed on the floor. "Somebody help!" cried a young woman near to the scene. A Crew Member quickly rushed to his aid and began administering mouth to mouth resuscitation. A life hung in the balance. The young woman's screams became shrill. "Somebody please help!" "Somebody!" "Some... body!" That's when it hit me. In this cruel cacophony of love and madness, I had completely forgotten that the new Netflix® Original Series, "BODIES", was premiering on the award-winning streaming service that very night! I would have to leave these aisles of carefully crafted goods that you just can't find at the big box stores behind. But I will be back. And he will be mine. read more

I went this morning and I was getting a sour beer at checkout so they checked my ID and saw it was my birthday in a week and gave me free sunflowers and maple coffee I was looking for And I was like "sunflowers are my favorite flower how did you know" This act of kindness really made my week. Hi my name is Nicole, and this evening, I visited my first Trader Joe's, and I am speechless. A little history. I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland in a household of healthy food. My parents always cooked all my meals. I am now 42 years old, and living on my own. My ENTIRE adult life, I have struggled with feeding myself, (not literally feeding myself, like fork to mouth.)I have no problem eating what other people cook for me (family members or friends,) but have not ever been able to, or had an interest in cooking or taking care of myself with food, but I love to eat. My Mom (who lives in North Carolina) has tried everything: Sending Tik Tok videos with simple recipes (my email is full of I watched videos), bought me an Echo Alexa to encourage me (with reminders "time to eat something!) New York Times recipe subscription, cook books, pictures, daily phone calls, etc. To no avail, I just simply do not cook, or prepare food, yet I love to eat! I am not sure how I have made it this long on Door Dash deliveries, frozen pizza, and frozen TV dinners. For the past year, my Mom has been saying "I googled Trader Joe's, you are only 2.3 miles from there, I wish you would go. I wish we had a Trader Joe's here! Please go honey." Tonight, I took her advice (after it being about the 100th time she asked me,) and I visited Trader Joe's. And tonight, my relationship with food, and "feeding myself changed." I am literally speechless, and almost moved to tears. Within 2 minutes of being in the store, I started to recognize food from my families kitchen. Familiar snacks (or similar,) a huge selection of cheese, Brie, Mozzarella, Prosciutto, salami, chicken tikka masala, spinach, almond slices, and in addition,tons and tons of frozen meals that I could eat!! After I relaxed, and stopped wondering "do all of these TJ regulars "know this is my first time?" Moving my cart awkwardly out of the way, apologizing for lingering too long by the vegetables, I shopped for 2 hours. When I was finished, I felt like I was a TJ regular. Employees were friendly, and made good suggestions, and helped me feel welcomed. Here's where it gets good, when I was checking out, Krista, and I started talking. I told her it was my first time at TJ. She was genuinely happy for me. As she scanned my food, she made suggestions, when she got to the Chia Seeds I said "what do I do with these?!" (my Mom told me to buy them,) and without even looking, Krista said "there is a good recipe on the back for pudding, you should try it!" Then Krista told me about the history of TJ, how they don't carry debt (big fan of that-that's the way I live,) how they have Control, of what goes in to their products with ingredients, 98% of the products labels are Trader Joe's. Then Andrea came over (or was it Amanda?) and started help bagging, and said "I see you like cheese, did you get the 'Unexpected Cheddar Cheese'?" I said "no, but I should have! I will go grab it," and she said "no, no, I'll go get it for you." Both women then told me about the wine, and how delicious it is. I was so happy when I left Trader Joe's. I came home, started eating Olive Tapenade, pita chips, pomegranate, Fig and olive crisps, and I made myself a chicken breast and asparagus, completely on my own. Like followed a Tik Tok video, and cooked the chicken breast and asparagus for MYSELF, and ate all of it. Trader Joe's is my new store. I am already a TG regular, and I have only been there once. Thank you, thank you, I have SO much gratitude that TG, has pushed me into a new food relationship. I will no longer shop anywhere else, and will share this story (although I am sure my Mom will beat me to it) with friends and family. I will no longer be hungry now that I have Trader Joe's. I can't believe I have never reviewed this location. I am a big fan - I used to live far north and went to all the locations up there. Now I live near this location. I like the consistency. All Trader Joe's are pretty much the same basic layout and same food selection, which makes shopping quick and easy. The parking can get a little crazy at this location - so my recommendation is to go early. It's always a peaceful experience when I get up early and go when they open. I also like that they have some items that you can only buy there - they have some great boxed salads, unique veggie burgers, a great hummus and some other cool items that you can't find elsewhere. read more

Trader Joes gets criticized for the health of the flowers they sell, the lifespan of the produce, and $3 bottles of wine. The critics of course do not consider the price when decrying such products. All the aforementioned items have their place. This Trader Joes is a quality location and much like other TJs, the other customers are typically the problem. This TJs is a suburban location and walkable for far fewer people than a typical TJs located in Chicago. The parking lot at this TJs is too small and the customers too inconsiderate. Yesterday, a car waited about 5 minutes in the parking lot waiting for me to pack the car, take cart back, etc., thereby causing a traffic jam only rivaled by the eastbound Eisenhower during the morning rush hour. If you go to this TJs please be prepared to park a block away in the street, trust me it will be quicker than driving around the parking lot in an endless loop. Fast-forward to your shopping experience. Navigating the supermarket without a shopping cart will be helpful for an in-&-out visit. If you do grab a shopping cart prepare yourself for the chronic annoyance of other customers- the aisles are quaint and successful navigation requires the skill of a demolition derby veteran. Mom and I headed here this morning so she could show off her new TJ's and we could both pick up a few things. She obviously forgot I've been shopping at TJ's for years because she kept telling me how great everything there was. Apparently, my years of raving about the store had fallen on deaf ears, until now. There were a couple of things we had trouble finding in the store and we had crew members chomping at the bit to help us! At one point I think we had three scouring the store for some sauce I wanted. I can imagine that this place gets mobbed midday and into the evening, but right at open it's pretty empty and parking is easy. read more

This place is all kinds of win. 'Course, it doesn't hurt that I live in the same building that this TJ's is a part of, so if I ever need a stick of butter or crumbled feta cheese, I only need to walk downstairs to get it. Ultra convenient for yours truly. The employees have always had a pleasant attitude and great sense of humor. Knowledgeable and very friendly. Terrific variety of items, fresh produce, and overall quality that can't be beat. Speaking of unbeatable.... Their wine. Holy lord their wine. The other day I picked up a bottle of Shiraz (a flavorful red) for $3.99. I honestly thought they had forgotten a '1' in front of the 3, but they hadn't. Apparently, they can afford to sell wine for $4/bottle because it flies off the shelves so quickly, and TJ's makes a profit from retailing in bulk quantities. Good for them--and good for you too, dear reader! They also have a hard liquor section with some interesting entries (limoncello, anyone?), but the real star is their beer selection. Tons of local, Chicago-area microbrews in a veritable rainbow of styles & potencies. I'm a huge fan of their 'mix-and-match' option: basically, you take an empty 6-pack cardboard carrier and fill it with whatever is on the shelf. Since the beer bottles are individually priced, you can pick & choose to your heart's content. 5 stars alone for featuring this! Lots of check-out counters ensures that even during peak hours, you don't have to wait long. They have a cool bell system for faster service; 1 for assistance, 2 for manager, 3 for "all hands on deck". Does 3 bells mean some serious sh*t is going down? Zombie apocalypse? Or some old lady's gallon of milk exploded? My advice is: if you're ever shopping here and you hear three bells, your best bet is to duck and cover. My only complaint is that the parking lot is complete and utter CHAOS. I've narrowly avoided death from seriously crazy Oak Park soccer mommies flying through with their Audi SUVs. Sundays and weekday evenings between 5pm and 7pm seem to be the times when you're most likely to be flattened by a Range Rover......after 7pm, it's a Porsche Cayenne. I LOVE OP TJ'S! read more

I want to give a special thanks to Kelsey the manager and Eric. They are both so kind and wonderful. I had problem with my tire they went out of their way to help me out. I've always had friends that were extreme Trader Joe's shoppers and I never understood why until I lived around the corner from here. I absolutely love this Trader Joe's for many reasons. The staff is always so pleasant and it's easy to have a conversation with them. Unfortunately when it gets busy a lot of the cashiers are so engrossed in conversations that they don't notice when the line starts to get longer. I am a huge fruit lover so it is really nice to have a set price per item instead of having a per pound cost. I never have to guess how much I'm spending when going grocery shopping. I've gotten a ton of recipes from the corner of the grocery store that allows customers to sample an item. No matter how much I love Trader Joe's a decent amount of their items get moldy extremely fast. I purchased a bag of bagels and only managed to eat two bagels before they went bad. If you live by yourself I highly recommend buying small quantities of items because you never know how long you have before you have to toss it. read more

I always love TJ's. This is probably the only one in the whole world that doesn't have huge parking issues. I think only once ever I have had to circle, unlike other branches where you have to wait to even get in the lot. Everything is organized very well and logically in the store, and the brightly lit interior and decor makes shopping at this location seem homey. I don't shop here as frequently now that I have discovered Pete's in Oak Park which I find cheaper, but I will come here for specialty items. Good selection of items for people with dietary restrictions, like vegan or gluten-free. Parking lot is limited, but plenty of parking in the garage. This location is a favorite of Loyola medical students. Their European Style Plain Fat-Free Yogurt is the best plain yogurt for smoothies or mixing with some honey and granola. Cannot find this creamy consistency anywhere else. Seasonal items like their spiced cider and pumpkin pancake mix are hard to beat. Great for fresh flowers and refrigerated products like their ravioli and dips. read more
