What an absolute treat! I've driven by this store a few dozen times since it opened last year but I had no idea it was so cool. I just thought it was a regular neighborhood grocery store so I never stopped in. I went today on a Saturday morning and had the place nearly to myself. Easy access lot parking. Very quiet inside. Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything was super fresh as the breads were coming out of the oven- hot! The Ciabatta is fantastic! The salad bar being set up looked amazing. Near the salad bar you can grind your own oatmeal and peanut butter, pour your own olive oils. The lotion/shampoo/soap selection and all the healthcare items offered were very interesting. They had a huge natural health and homeopathic section. I bought a cool wooden massager tool! They had testers and samples throughout which I enjoy. In addition to all the usual departments like bakery, frozen, deli, etc they also offer some neat things like toys, yoga gear, lunch containers/thermos and gifts. Deli carries nitrite-free meats at a slightly lower cost than Whole Foods. Also all the fresh fruits and vegetables were priced either equal to or lower than the cost of similar items at Jewel. And everything looked very fresh. It was a fun outing! I'll definitely be back.

Fresh Thyme has definitely declined over the years, especially their dairy. Many times I've purchased sour milk and chunky half&half within the expiration date. Today, I opened up a new bag of shredded cheese that expires months from now and it was moldy. It's convenient, so I continue to shop there, but I'm getting tired of the spoiled product surprises.

I was very glad that another location of "Fresh Thyme Farmers Market" that actually is much closer to our house. I have visited the one in the city on Elston every time I got a chance, but traffic over there is always congested due to the ongoing construction. The new one in River Forest seems to be a little smaller. However, many neighborhood shoppers showed up since they were on their grand opening week. The items I usually get from Fresh Thyme are prepared foods and seafood from their seafood department. The young man who helped me behind the counter was very courteous and even asked me if I had a preference on which two (2) pieces of salmon I would like. I'm pretty easy-going as a person, yet I certainly appreciated his attentiveness and customer service. Their grand opening deals were quite excellent on produces, except the avocados I purchased were way under-ripened and hard as stones. Sorry, I couldn't render a perfect score since I'm an avocado lover. Back to the prepared foods I mentioned previously, I buy them because they make great weekday lunches. In addition, there is a nut butter station where you can either take one of the containers they already made (prices were listed on the lid or taped on the bottom), or you can grind fresh on your own. The cashier and bagger were super nice. I didn't sign up for their loyalty program on this trip, but I did it afterward so that I could start earning points and clipping digital coupons. I found prices on most items reasonable and the atmosphere is less pretentious than fellow competitors that emphasize on carrying natural and organic foods.

Fresh Thyme has a great selection of produce, and the consistently best rotisserie chicken compared to all that other grocers.

This new Market has longer hours and a more expansive location to make it easier for people to attend. It is now located at the 143rd METRA Station in Orland Park...roughly one block west of LaGrange Road at 142nd Street. The Market is held on Thursdays only...from May 25 to August 31. Hours are from 4pm to 8pm. If you happened to be a METRA rider, you will find the Market as soon as you jump off the train at night. Besides adding some live entertainment at this location, the number of vendors is expected to grow substantially as customers find the site. Right now there are about two dozen vendors. The vendors are much like those that were visiting the old Farmer's Market, but this location will eventually attract many additional vendors. Food and food trucks, notions, candles, honey, fresh fruit and vegetables, and many Orland Park businesses are here. For example, the University of Chicago medical people are represented ... even more so because they have a new four story facility just a couple hundred feet away. This new Market is worth trying...it is just one more example of the Village trying to upgrade its offerings to the public. Recommended.

Majority of the vendors are the regulars, with a few of them pop in every once in awhile. I would say check their official FB or IG page to see who are coming for a particular weekend so that you don't miss out on them! I notice one of the vendors is quite popular and customers always line up for it. "Gotta B Crepes" has the biggest tent on the corner of Long and Irving Park. Their crepes are made-to-order. The owner does his one-man show by the grills while striking fun conversations with every customer he services. "Gotta B Crepes" has a large menu, I would say, ranging from sweet to savory, with some seasonal offerings. I personally think it's somewhat messy to eat at a park, so we usually make it the last stop for our Farmer's Market trip and head home to enjoy them with a cup of coffee. We haven't really stopped by every vendor, as we only show up if our 3-year old son wakes up early enough to participate any morning activity. In other words, we would visit once or twice every season for the most part. Nevertheless, I love having a Farmer's market in our neighborhood park and most of them do accept cashless payment options nowadays! Customer parking is available near the pool on the northeast corner of the park. Often times street parking is available on each perimeter. Overall, it makes a good choice for an easy and economical family outing.

I only saw three fruit/veggie booths but that was more than enough for what I was looking for. Coffee, chai, horchata, agua frescas.... Plenty to drink. Live music. And the highlight for me was a visit to the @vargobrothersferments tent to get some kimchi and garlic sauce and a kombucha. Check them out!

While parking can be questionable at some locations the regular and handicap parking here seems plentiful within the the square and the entire area has both a true small town feel and also a big local park feel with trees and flowers. For an afternoon Farmers Market there was a full supply of vendors during each of my visits. Many have mentioned the knife sharpening and after I had a pair of scissors sharpened I'm also a believer. With many vendors offering multiple types of veggies and plants there is a lot to look at. While I didn't buy raw honey (not super processed or pasteurized so most people say it has better health benefits and and fuller flavor) here at Riverside yet, I expect to need some at the start of the next season. There are multiple Amish vendors and I was lucky to spend a while talking to one of the Amish families about their farm and some of their core values. I've worked directly with a few different Amish families in Illinois and Indiana and have found each to be an unique experience. If you have time to talk to some of them or buy your veggies or baked goods from them you'll love the experience. Some people I've spoken to treat a Farmers Market like a bartering flea market but I find the quality to be high and prices reasonable and don't think that it's appropriate to ask a farmer or baker to lower their price when they have put some high labor in to their products. Hard work should be rewarded.

Now Yelpers, listen up, do you SUFFER from Hayfever like I do??…read moreHere's a secret to save you money and make you less miserable: Buy local honey at this market (a bottle is $10--way cheaper than OTC Zertec or Claritin) and eat a tablespoon a day. Before you know it, your allergies will be gone. Why?! Because the bees roam around the city and pollinate from the same plants that give your that runny nose and those itchy eyes. Think of it as a painless immunization. The beekeeper has her beehives right behind at her Carpenter Street house. If you really get into it, you can work a deal with the caring beekeeper to purchase a huge bucket for several months. And the honey is BEE-LICIOUS! (yes, that was lame). More Good News: Gosh, what a cute cultural market! The salespeople are so sweet and friendly. The love for what they specialize in or do shines through in their smiles. The market is like none of the others in the city due to its Latin American cultural roots and flavors. They have private, original art for sale (meet the artisans themselves), fresh vegetables, breakfast items, coffee/tea/mate, delicious-looking pastries, dog treats, and my favorite...local honey products. They even have a great looking website (listed above). The Bad News: While it is VERY small (10 tents possibly), they have a great variety of local products. Bring cash! :) The VERY Bad News: You'll have to wait until next year ;(. The market only runs (well this past year) on Sundays from July 27th until October 26th 9 am to 2 pm. ---- Featured in the Weekly Yelp-Chicago "Farmers Market Almanac" on June 2, 2009: http://www.yelp.com/weekly?editorial_id=W8Z6vofGex0KswvVq8Uxhw
