So this is the not so little gem that replaced Dominick's. I liked Dominick's, but this place I love. It has EVERYTHING you could ever want to shovel into your mouth. Do you want to cook it? Take your pick from the kind of small selection or organic produce. They have a massive selection of GMO stuff too. Their GMO stuff is huge. I've never in my life seen lemons that big. They have everything I need in organic, but you can't find all the weird and exotic stuff in the organic section. My boyfriend brought me yellow calla lilies (my favorite) from their floral section. They were absolutely beautiful and much cheaper than buying them at a flower store. All of their fresh flowers look so beautiful. They have a large selection of mix your own granola ingredients between produce and the floral section. They have a juicer set up and they juice and bottle their orange juice right there in front of you. It's not organic but it's really delicious! They are also popping their own popcorn in the back of the produce section and dipping caramel apples. The crown jewel of this place is hands down the butcher department. The meat and seafood case is out of this world. Fresh crab, Chilean sea bass, scallops, salmon, crayfish etc etc. Lamb, beef, chicken, pork, sausage, bacon etc etc. You can buy the fresh meat and take it home to prepare, or they have a large selection of pre-made dishes that only require you to take it home and cook (kabobs , chicken cordon blue, stuffed mushrooms, hot wings, etc etc.) We spend so much time just standing there staring in delight that is similar to the delight Ralphie felt looking into the store window at the official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle. If you don't understand this reference, you are empty inside.
So back to the butcher, I noticed there wasn't house made andouille sausage. I asked about it and one man working in the meat department said he would order the spice and they would have it house made by next week. Now that's service! My heart is happy. Thanks meat man!!! I love the section from around the world. It's an isle of imported products from various locations around the world (go figure.) I bought some tomato puree from Italy to make my home made gravy (as it has been referred to ever since I've watched the Sopranos.) It's was quite tasty. I'm not sure I would be able to tell a huge difference in taste though compared to tomato sauce from the USA, but I felt fancy and it made the lasagna more special. Also you know you are a food snob when you buy olive oil imported from a small family farm in Sicily. Yeah, you can get that here, and yeah you can tell a huge difference in taste compared to the USA stuff. Buy yourself some good olive oil and thank me later. We didn't go down every isle but the few we use I can tell you I was blown away. Our coffee, freshly ground organic and only $6. There is a lot a lot a lot of tea choices. My two favorite are NUMI and Tazo. They have a large selection of both. I didn't see the tea bags for Tazo black ice tea but they do have that bottled. Maybe I can request this. They have a soda section to mix and match bottles of soda and they have Sprechers, YUM. Oh holy cheeses. They have cheese from everywhere in the world. All flavors and all ages. Their Dubliner cheese is the best I've had. Next to cheese is a large selection of alcohol. They have a walk in cooler too. The deli is out of control. I've developed a love hate relationship with this area. I love the fresh deli meats, cheeses and salads. I hate that they don't use the number thing and you can stand there for 10 minutes (with 14 people standing around back there) before someone will help you. Now, they aren't prompt to serve you but they are super fuckin friendly when they eventually do get round to you. We had several meats from Greenrich Farms and smoked sausage too. It's the best and apparently local. The price is a tad higher but you should get this, trust me. They will make you some sandwiches I had them make me one with turkey, apple, Munster and arugula. It's good but nothing I can't make myself. The pastry department is nice. Don't get the cakes in the case. The death by chocolate must have got it's name because you want to die when you taste it. Super nasty. however in the cooler in the middle with the breads are sheet cakes that are good, and the cream puffs are to die for. The only place around here where the cream puffs were eatable. They have a smoothie bar, not our thing. They have a coffee shop. I had iced tea and my other half had coffee. they were both good but nothing extraordinary. I think the coffee is better than the tea though. So I"m in love with this place. You really should check it out. It's crowded ALL THE TIME, but it's worth it. If you are a food snob, or just want to eat real and really great food, go here. You're welcome. read more
