No prices are displayed for the cheese. The woman claimed it was 8 99 a lb. When I asked the guy he said 15.99 a lb. Liars. Terrible service. This Jewel-Osco was my main go-to store for a while. I was able to get almost everything I desired in terms of food. They had a lot of food items that I enjoyed, e.g., grilled chicken, sushi, Silk soy milk, fresh produce. They had meal options that were easy to make, that I could simply stick into a microwave if I desired something quick and convenient. The food tasted good, and I appreciated having self-checkout kiosks. I was also able to get other important items at this store, e.g., toiletries, laundry stuff, paper towels. I appreciated that the store had long hours, which was convenient for me. I also liked that I could track purchases using the Jewel-Osco app. For the area, the store also has a convenient location and a large parking lot. read more

I have been shopping and having my order delivered since 2020 when I became unable to walk. Today is the most frustrating delivery yet. I was missing 4 items and called the store they told me to call Door Dash after telling me the bag wasn't there. I called Door Dash which I have never had to do before and was told that they would redeliver my missing items then 10 minutes later the order was cancelled. I again called customer service at the store and was told that they don't do delivery, which they do, and I should either re-order or call Door Dash again. The two people I spoke to Miya in Home Delivery and Joe in Customer Service were both quite rude and unwilling to explain anything. I have been a Jewel customer for over 50 years and I can honestly say I have never been treated so rudely. My boyfriend and I have been frequenting this Jewel-Osco for a while now, and our experience has been pretty delightful! We often get groceries for half the price due to the many in-store deals and in-app savings; and the food items we're shopping for are usually in-stock. Ambience-wise, we usually shop at night, and the store is very clean, organized, and peaceful. Service-wise, it's been great. One lady that deserves a shout-out is Ruth. She has been our cashier for many grocery trips, and, today, she provided excellent customer service with a smile and had such a warm character to her that I wished she were my grandmother. It made our whole shopping experience worthwhile. Overall, we'll continue to support and shop for groceries at this trusty Jewel-Osco and hope more people have the same great experience with shopping. read more

Here's another one star comment, painting an even bleaker picture of a once good store. Their curbside order service has been getting progressively worse. Apart from the frozen goods rapidly defrosting in a plastic bag full of water, my last order was missing three items. As I as I live reasonably close by, I went back to the store. It took three attempts to get the the associate working in customer service to understand me. Then I was told to "go get them" and was waved away from the desk. When I returned with the items, the associate did not comment on the inconvenience caused, but instead questioned my honesty, before bagging the items and pushing them towards me and indicating for me to leave the store. I have been called many things in my life time, and dishonest is NOT one of them!! I am totally done with this store, and will not shop here again. I'd rather pay a little more, and go to Walmart instead. Okay, the staff there are not much better, but I've never had anyone at Walmart call me a liar. read more

I arrived for my pickup order 11 minutes before 8 PM, having indicated that I was on my way. I was the only car parked and waited for 5 minutes. When I called the pickup number, it rang for a few minutes, then went to voicemail, which was full, ending the call. After waiting for 4 more minutes, I called customer service. They transferred me back to pickup before I could explain that nobody answered, and the voicemail was full. Again, it rang, went to voicemail, and the call ended. I called again. The woman immediately recognized me, put me on hold, and tried calling pickup herself but couldn't reach anyone. She informed me that the assistant manager would bring out my order. By now, it was 25 minutes after my arrival, and I was upset but resigned to the situation. However, when the assistant manager finally appeared, I went to help load the car, and she accused me of not being parked there the entire time and of not checking in timely before 8 PM. I felt insulted, as if she were calling me a liar, and she didn't apologize. I reached out to Jewel to share my experience, but I heard nothing back. read more

Been shopping here on and off since 1991. Since Albertsons took it over, this Jewel in River Forest earns the award as the most expensive grocery store next to the now extint Plum Market on Wells St in Chgo. They do carry some hard to find items I often cannot find at other stores like ground veal or neck bones, WHEN THEY'RE NOT OUT OF STOCK, but their prices are insane. And what is funny is they're packed all the time. And you gotta love the people who leave their carts in the middle of the aisles as they're gazing at the selections completely unaware that there are other people in the store too, but that's almost every store. When Jewel sells cereal, almond and coconut milk, and many other items for higher prices than Whole Foods, it's just not worth it for me. They're also out of items more often than not. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Caputos are my first choices. Jewel is last. read more

Everything. Let's just say someone close to me works at this store currently. Not only do they treat their employees horribly, they don't even care about their health. They ignore doctors notes when it's pertinent to something an employee needs to be doing or have. That's the point of a note. Giving part time ppl full time hours but without the benefits and expect you to be all happy to get a pin. No they want more than $14 an hour. Then you got big bird as a cashier who's been there so long it's like she's melting into the place. Not a manager but has no problem acting like one with ordering employees around. They're so understaffed raw meat sits in overstock until it's warm. Oh and gets right back out on the shelf. That's how you make ppl sick. They have no working drinking fountain either. I'm sure OSHA would love that. If you work 7.5 hours by Illinois mandate you're supposed to get at least a 20-30 min not paid meal break. They give you 2 15min paid breaks when they feel like it. Managers of course get 30. By the time you sit down you have to get back up. Since if you bring food the break room is on a whole other level under the store. The customers are just as bad. "Excuse me! Excuse me!" To the self checkout person when they can clearly see they're helping someone else. People steal and the police do nothing about it. Idk if they're even allowed to at this point. We make it a point to not shop there unless it's necessary. That's my rant. Four solid stars all the way for this location! Out of all the Jewel-Osco's I have shopped at this one is the cleanest, best stocked, and has the kindest employees. After living in Gold Coast for over a year and experiencing the Jewel at State/Ohio I must say that this River Forest location should be used as a corporate model for all other locations including the Brickyard, Melrose Park, O'hare, ohhh yea and the one in Oak Park Yikes!!!.... hmmm I cannot think of any other dippy dive Jewel-Osco's at the moment that you should just jump into the shopping cart and roll yourself away from the store doors and into a parked car (preferably yours to avoid more chaos) However this one is a go to!! I do appreciate the early hours they open as well as the late hours they close-especially on holidays (this Jewel has saved Thanksgiving dinner many many many a times)!! Although, this isn't my usual go to place to shop for groceries, they DO have a great selection of dairy-free, vegan, grain-free, and gluten-free items if that's your thing... more power to you! The butcher has always been most helpful to my "carnivore- mostly pescatarian" fiancé whenever he's questioning the salmon or crab legs and what waters they swam freely before becoming his meal. They have a great selection of organic produce all reasonably priced. Lastly, even during the busiest of busy peak store hours there's always a close parking spot available for my lazy legs on a Monday at 6:30pm. I really, really, REALLY hate leaving negative reviews, but today I am going to make an exception. This Jewel, located off Lake Street, in River Forest is absolute GARBAGE. I can base this on many bad experiences there, but I hate leaving bad reviews. Today I had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with a employee named "Sonia" at the self service lanes, who changed my mind. Sonia is what employees should strive NOT to be. Sonia is how employers should teach their employees NOT to act. She has got to be one of the most ignorant, rude employees with horrible customer service skills I have ever run into. I'm appalled that a long standing business like Jewel would allow someone like this to act the way they do. It started with yelling at people to "form a line, form a line NOW." I'm thinking what is this shopping boot camp. It continued with her yelling, hustle up and move it as I was checking out. It finished with her telling me "can't you read" when I put my basket in the wrong place. I said excuse me it was a mistake. She then glares at me and starting snapping at another shopper. I am almost an everyday shopper on Lake Street. You do have a survey campaign going on but it does not address direct problems. You need to do a more personal survey to get to the source of a problem. Over the last couple months I have witnessed a manager in the back with anger issues and lack of people skills. He treats fellow workers very poorly. I saw first hand how he treated this elderly man that was working, he belittled him and yelled at him. People were even commenting in the aisle. This so called manager is heard throughout the store, there isn't one time he is not complaining about someone. Yesterday, he was complaining to another worker about another employee and how he hung up on him on the phone and said that guy needs help. No, it's the other way around. He went on and on and on complaining and did't even realize I was standing there. He was so focused on being heard. He finally said to me, what? And proceeded to keep complaining. He should not be on the floor if it can't keep control of his mouth. There is a time and place for everything. But he does need training how to be professional like the other workers. Overall experience has improved. Generally clean and well-stocked. Overly cramped layout. Sometimes difficult to find things that might be in one of their "ethnic" sections vs. main sections. Not super-easy to find help in the store (compared to Whole Foods). They've removed the blaring advertising screens at checkout (yay) and have added self-checkout. If you don't want self-checkout, usually they have adequate # of staffed stations open. Checkout area VERY cramped during busy times such as Sat & Sun afternoons and weekday early evenings. MONOPOLYAMOROUS I'm always a sucker for a clever marketing promotion. And what better way to convince customers to buy a whole bunch of sh*t they don't need than with Monopoly pieces? Once every year Jewel stores nationwide draw in what I can only assume is a 5-10% increase in sales thanks to their sneaky tie-in with the namesake Parker Bros/Hasbro board game. Believe me when I tell you that it's addicting as hell. I live literally 8 stories above the Oak Park Trader Joe's, so the rare occasion when I shop at Jewel I make the most of it. Their prices are very reasonable and the employees have been friendly every single time. Sometimes the checkers and baggers are more sociable than other times, but normally they're perfectly polite. Having made the egregious mistake of shopping for junk food at 1pm on a Sunday (I'm an idiot), naturally I got stuck in a nice long checkout line. There seemed to be no sense of urgency in moving customers through, although the store was clean and organized nicely. Selection of fresh produce, frozen stuff and liquor is on-par with similar grocery stores but none of them have the crazy Monopoly giveaways so why bother?? The other 9 months out of the year I'd have to give TJ's the edge, though. All in all, a pretty nice store. Now I just need that one last piece for the big $1M........ read more

I like this Jewel because their sales are on point, but why is it impossible to find a short checkout line? It's 2:55pm and I walked around the store twice already, because I couldn't stand still for that long waiting in line. The "express" line is literally backed up beyond the liquor dept and into the shampoos and stuff. It's madness! The staff is friendly, but they like to talk to each other while checking out groceries, which obviously slows the line wayyyy down. There are currently five (5) lanes that are completely closed. Wtf, dude? Meanwhile it's taking everything in me not to rip open this steak I'm gonna cook tonight and just start eating it raw right now. My mouth is watering. Mmmmm. Anyway, back to the staff, the deli is hit or miss with the employees. They're either efficient and somewhat nice, or not friendly and slow AF. read more

I don't write reviews very often but I just got back from Jewel and had to write one because I love everything about this place, the cleanliness, delicious soups and deli foods, well stocked shelves, friendly staff, etc. BUT... I cannot remember the last time I got a cart that actually worked. Loud creaking sounds, wobbly wheels, sticky wheels, etc. make it a very unpleasant shopping experience. And it's not just that I've had bad luck, you can see other people (or hear their carts) dealing with bad carts as you are shopping. I'm sure it's not a cheap fix to rotate out the bad ones on a regular basis but it is necessary if you don't want your customers heading to Mariano's or other grocers for a better experience. Fix this issue and you have a very nice story that people like me frequent very often. read more

Pete D. got this one spot on when he described it as the "snooty jewel" in his review. Granted, if I go to a Jewel, it's typically this one (location location location). It has a great organic selection and the Wild Harvest isles are the best I've seen. This store has those two things in the bag! Other positive characteristics are the cheese selection and fresh sushi (although not restaurant quality, it is made right there by a girl listening to her iPod). The rest of the store is just so so. It's clean and has Jewel (grocery store) stuff. Since it's a Jewel with an Osco, it also has typical Osco (pharmacy) stuff. But, like any Jewel-Osco, it has the same sort of employees (they're not snooty). The one area that I'd just love to see improvement is their "ethnic" foods. There is half of an isle with ethic foods. If I want cilantro, I have to pay $2.50 for a small package. This kills me because I know that I could go a couple of miles to the Melrose Park Jewel and get a large bunch of fresh herbs for less than a dollar a pop. In my opinion the Melrose Park Jewel has better selection of produce at better prices as well as a lot more "ethnic" foods. One last thing about the pharmacy! The employees really know their stuff. A couple times an employee recognized me and treated me with extra courtesy. I thought that was nice. read more

I like going here, I don't usually buy a lot of stuff but I can usually find everything I need. I don't really bother with the lines at checkout. I like to go to the self-checkout, it isn't very user friendly though. If you don't bag your items, it calls over an attendant, this usually happens every time you scan items even if you do put them in a bag. Sort of frustrating, but I can deal. read more

The deli department either actually needs to stay open until 9:00 p.m., as stated on their website, or they need to update their hours. Went there tonight specifically for some deli items, and the two employees working behind the counter told me they were closed. When I questioned them about their hours, they told me they closed at 7:30 and were in the process of already cleaning down everything. Went to the service department, who phoned a grocery manager, so she went over there, and the one girl was already gone -- well, she also had gotten some phone call in the meantime, according to the front desk while I was waiting -- and the other guy was saying something about he didn't know how to use the machine or something was wrong with it to the manager and crying and carrying on about then having to clean up again. She even told him she didn't believe him but told me "just so he doesn't cut a finger". Anyhow, there was no luck getting anywhere, so manager showed me to the pre-sliced meats from Boar's Head section; although they didn't have what I wanted, I did pick something up to hold me over. What a waste of a trip though, and this wasn't the first time I had experienced this nonsense with the deli employees closing early either. They need to rectify this situation with their employees or, as I previously stated, just adjust the hours online, so people aren't going out of their way for something, only to end up disappointed. read more
