Absolutely horrible service at Mariano's Westchester today. 20 people ahead of me in the deli , the seafood area had no attendant, meat department even worse . Every time I go there , it seems to be worse. I gave up and went to Jewels. Other people shared the same Went back today 5/26, surprised that service was much better. However, ordered cold slaw , about $4.00/lb, was charged for chicken salad, $6.99/lb. . The quality of this store has truly gone downhill since they were purchased by Kroger. Everything went from seeming high quality to cheap. We used to buy prepared food from there all the time and do our weekly grocery shopping there- now we only go when we need an essential and its on our way somewhere. I much prefer Trader Joes in Lagrange. The prepared food section seems to have taken the worst hit. they used to have loads of bbq, pizzas, sandwiches that were all high quality. Now the take bake pizzas are just a freezer brand they carry Screamin Cecilian. (Not my fav- gave me hives). No bbq really to be seen, and they warm pizza/sandwiches section is totally empty. The produce sectiom is also bad- ive bought numerous rotton veggies from them. Super sad cuz everyone LOVED marianos when it first came to the neighborhood. May as well go anywhere else. read more

I like this store enough; it's clean and well stocked and the employees are friendly, plus it has those wonderful "driving" carts that work so magically for my two kids. The wine and beer selection is extensive and awesome and the chicken and rice soup is always superb. But there two things that irk me almost every time go: 1) The baggers. Please, pleeeease, Mariano's, train your baggers. They are nice, but they need to know how to pack a grocery bag. I usually ask for paper, and one reason I do is to try to cut down on the number of bags I have to carry/load (see aforementioned two kids). I might as well not though, because they load the paper bags as if they were plastic bags, with only a few items in each. Last time, I was loading bags into the car and peered into one particularly light bag to find ONE HEAD OF CAULIFLOWER. That was it. In the whole paper bag. Another bag held just chocolate chips and baking soda. What could have fit into two properly packed paper bags was put into six. Another time, to try to keep the above scenario from happening, I told the girl she could go ahead and pack them full. Unfortunately, she had already started packing a couple of the bags, so she just started throwing more stuff haphazardly (including eggs) on top of what was already in the bags until they were too heavy to even carry (they weren't double bagged). I can't win. I'm sorry for talking about bags so much but this has bothered me every time (I go there pretty often) and I'm just now getting to a review so there is a lot of built-up frustration, I guess. Westchester. What a disaster this store has become since Kroger bought it! Dirty, poorly stocked, indifferent employees. Carts have paper and junk left in them when the shaggers bring them back into the store. Floors are often filthy. Can't buy produce because it is so wet and becoming moldy. Never enough employees at the deli counter. Employees stand around in groups by the check- out section. They never open the Express Lanes as they want to force you to use self-checkout. Four close-in parking lanes, mostly unused, are reserved for the few Click-it customers. Employees look shabbily dressed with outlandish hair, dirty gray/white shirts not even tucked into pants. Oh yeah, and prices. Started out 59 cents on Fancy Feast cat food and jumped to 64 cents each overnight. Barefoot wine was $4.99 bottle and jumped to 5.99 overnight and on and on. The only bright spot is their pharmacy. Excellent employees and on the ball. I live only a block away but now I make an effort to go to Jewel, Trader Joe's or Whole Foods which are farther away but worth the trip. read more

I went to their store today to stock up on basic supplies. As one would think with the outbreak of Coronavirus the store was packed and many Staples were off the shelves. The employees were doing their best to replenish the items as quickly as they good. Each employee today deserves the highest praise as they dealt with a lot of adversity and continued to support us with a smile. Thank you for hiring a great group. It should also be worth noting that this store had the right amount of employees on staff. The check out line snaked around to the back of the store to the meat department. But because of the forethought to employ the right amount of people I think I was in line less than 30 minutes. A shorter wait than the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Great job. read more

So disappointed in the store these days. We used to drive from Oak Park to have a great shopping experience. Now, it's showing signs of neglect and disorganization. Still slightly above average, but simply not a destination to have an exceptional customer experience. Too bad. They will learn the hard way, like Dominicks and Jewel, that you need to have local people in charge, and not the corporate suits that live in another state. I can't believe I'm about to get all "gushy" over a grocery store. But I am. I admit it. I drank the Mariano's Kool-aide, and now I'm a believer. This store is amazing. Not just for grocery shopping, but for a grab and go meal, or a sit down glass of wine. They even let you have a glass of wine while you do your shopping! Hello?!? Like wheels on a suitcase, why did it take so long for somebody to think that up?!? Genius. After dealing with the pitiful excuse of a grocery store known as "The Jewel", this is a godsend. But aside from the grocery part of it, I'm very impressed with the meal options, especially when you've worked all day and need to grab something. The soup bar has 8-10 different delicious soups. The salad bar is amazing. They have a smoothie/juice bar where you can get a healthy concoction whipped up right in front of you. But I believe the best deal is the $6.00 meal deal. You pick your main from about ten different choices, including a delicious salmon, various chicken breasts, meatballs, pork tenderloin, etc. Then you add two sides to it for a total of $6.00. My favorite is an Asian broccoli kale slaw, although I had a delicious sun dried tomato kale salad as well. $6.00 is cheaper than eating at many fast food places, and the quality of the food is outstanding. I work long hours and try to eat well, but it isn't always easy. But with this new Mariano's in the neighborhood, it's going to be a lot easier. Thank you! read more

I come to this location for hot food during my lunch break from work. I have one question though: whose mama is in the back of this store making this delicious food?! I mean, this is a serious question. Every single thing I've tried from the fried shrimp to the mashed potatoes to the pot roast to the fried chicken to the baked chicken has been delectible. I can't even... like all fresh and hot and reasonably priced though? And the seating area with that huge fiddle leaf fig tree is so nice. I'm not trying to entice more folks to stand in my way as I try to stuff my container full of food but, if you haven't had lunch or dinner at Mariano's...don't start now, ok? I like the Mariano's in Western Springs quite a bit, but the newly opened (November, 2014) location in Westchester is on a whole different level. Impressive amenities include a Sushi Bar, an Oyster Bar, a BBQ counter and more of everything you'd expect from a Mariano's. I found the selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars to be extensive enough that I may not be tempted to visit Eataly in Chicago quite as often. The seafood and meat counters had great variety and appropriate prices (sale prices seem to be quite good). They had a truly excellent selection of BBQ sauces, including the Dinosaur and Blues Hog brands (first time I've seen them around here). Likewise the hot sauce selection was great - they have the excellent local Co-op brand, as well as Dave's and Nando's Peri-Peri, another highly regarded brand I haven't seen around here before. There are many imported packaged foods/condiments at this location, as well as a decent (though not top tier) selection of imported cheeses. The space is really beautiful - from the tall glass wall at the front of the store, to the backlit shelves in the health section - it all works to make for an upscale feel. I have the feeling that many people in the area will drive a few extra minutes to go to the Westchester Mariano's. This is destination grocery shopping. read more

This new store was like the Disney of grocery sites! They took the former Dominick's site and made it insanely huge and updated. This site puts the western springs site to shame!! They offer even a wine, oyster, and BBQ bar inside. I almost want to go for a date here! You could probably have a really nice time They are staffing the place accordingly, so even though it just opened and is super busy, I only had one person in line in front of me and found a parking spot easily (the poor employees have to park a few blocks away-- but still give service w a smile!!) Mariano's has everything, especially the specialty items, which is great. It's upscale, as are some of the prices, but you can find a good deal if you take the time! Aw shucks! Oysters that is! Yep, they have a nifty deal of $1.50 oysters between 3 and 5 p.m. My Dad gets such a kick out of this. I try to take him when I can. It's a small little bar in the rear of the store but their oysters are legit, the employees shucking them are super nice and you can get a beer or a cup of chowda with your oysters. Fun times! I think this Mariano's deserves 5 stars for their oyster bar and the fact that they offer Bloody Mary classes! Yep, how cool is that? Every employee here has it going on with customer service. But, sadly I have to deduct one star because their deli department is slow as molasses! If I see more than two people in line by the deli I blow it off. So after 3 seperate bad experiences, I am writing a review and will NEVER come back. I came into the store this morning to buy my usual morning muffin. Everyday I go in, there is always sugar toppings on the muffins. Today, there wasn't. So I asked the lady behind the counter, "Why is there no sugar on the muffins?" Her response, "Because we ran out." I looked around and said, "But you're a grocery store! Why would you not use some sugar from your own store?" She didn't know. A seperate incident: I came in and went to the cupcake counter. The ladies behind the counter had no idea what was in the cupcakes. I simply wanted to know which ones had cream cheese in them. The 2 ladies behind the counter had absolutely no idea. They handed me a three page list and told me that I could read through the ingredients if I'd like. They also told me they normally do not work behind the counter and they have no idea what is in the muffins. Lastly, the employees are clueless and lazy. Some act like they don't even see you. For example, the time I waited over 5 minutes at a checkout counter with it's light on, until someone finally came and rang me out. Why was the light on with no one there? Why did I have to wait over 5 minutes in a lane with no line? It was before 9 a.m. and No one was in the store. The two other lanes that we're open had people in them with a full cart of groceries. I had two items. All in all; with horrible customer service, clueless employees, lazy food quality and employees, and the fact that Mariano's won't use it's own food, is enough reasons for me to never, ever come back. #Ridiculous read more

I was in the Chicago area just visiting when I came across this magical place. I'm not sure if locals are as amazed by it as much as this East Coaster was, but it was the candy store of grocery stores. Upon walking in, I knew this wasn't your typical grocery store experience when I was greeted by a pianist. In front of me was a nice produce section, and apart from the pianist, I thought it was your typical nice grocery store, similar to a Whole Foods. That perspective quickly changed when I turned the corner and was greeted by packed bar. A bar in a grocery store? I was sold. Other delights to be found in Mariano's were a sizable bakery section and the fresh squeezed juice section which boasts an impressive array of options. The wine selection is vast and there are several butcher stations. My only issue with this place? The fact that I can't bring it back to DC with me. read more

I am a huge fan of Mariano's. After years of putting up with the BS from Jewel ($5 asparagus, anyone?), Dominicks (good luck finding groceries that aren't expired!), and Whole Foods (er... Whole Paycheck), Mariano's has renewed my faith in humanity and the grocery business. The Westchester location might be the coolest one yet. In addition to all the cool stuff every Mariano's has (fresh OJ, amazing produce, great bakery) this one has a freaking oyster bar. Let me tell you, it is impressive. Ditto on their wine bar... who goes to a grocery store for dinner and drinks? Anyone within driving distance of this store... that's who. The people that work here are really nice, friendly, and helpful. You can tell by their attitudes they are treated well . Look. I like Mariano's. The ones on Ashland/Armitage and Chicago/Damen were my go-tos in the city. But dear god this one is bad. I mean, it's service that Comcast, United Airlines, and the IRS would cringe over. I've been twice. The first time, I was trying to get a slice of pizza. The person working that counter was cleaning, even though she looked up several times and saw me waiting. She walked by me twice but never acknowledged me. Not even a, "hey, I'll be right with you." Based on her avoidance, I assumed she was part of the cleaning staff. Not until I flagged down a manager for help did she come up to me. It shouldn't take seven minutes for someone to at least acknowledge you. This time, a similar thing happened at the sushi station. The guy stood there for a few minutes cleaning knives before finally saying hello. But then at checkout, the woman couldn't understand the tag on my pear. It was the correct tag, but she keyed it in wrong. When I told her that my green pear was NOT a yellow peach, she shrugged. When I looked at my receipt, I noticed that she had charged me for the wrong item, at 2.5x the cost. I mean, (a) read the freaking tag, (b) know the difference between a peach and a pear, and (c) when the customer tells you it's wrong, maybe double-check. Honestly, I am not impressed that much with Mariano's "Fresh Market". I feel Pete's is where it's at. I only went because it was closer and I didn't want to go to Jewel because of their lack of freshness and over-priced items. Well, it was practically the same experience as Jewel, except the ambiance was a lot nicer. First, they trick you by placing all the organic items first. When I did a circle, I kept noticing repeat items then looked over to see "Organic" section. So I put all the organic veggies back because I'm not paying extra out of my pocket and got the regular veggies. Another thing, this is why I stopped going to Jewel and this is why I won't come here often either. They want to charge more for crap that is not even fresh. I was making soup - I couldn't find any fresh celery, when I got home pretty much all the celery was bad, I couldn't find nice looking chives, the bananas I got were soggy and they were in the non-ripe stage which I like because I don't like soggy bananas. The only nice/fresh veggie I found was the packaged carrots! I did not like the meat selection - they had huge portions (6 chicken breasts) for like $11-13 when I only needed two chicken breasts. Also, the quality of the meat did not look as nice as Pete's and Pete's has way cheaper prices on produce going as low as $5-8 on meats with nice portions. Lastly, I got french bread to go with my soup, they had about 5 sticks out and all of them were borderline hard. Lastly, I found the store to be pretty confusing. They had ethnic isles, but all the ethnic foods were mixed together so like they had pasta near Italy, but the next isle over they had more pastas that were listed under a different country. So confusing, just put all the damn pasta's together so I can compare prices! The only good about this store is that the ambiance is very fancy - they have a live piano player playing music which is nice. I like the variety of deli options. They have a deli for everything! Cupcakes, meats, pizza, coffee, fish etc. It would be a nice place to pick up lunch or dinner. They even have a seating area to eat. It's very clean compared to most grocery stores - I usually don't buy from deli's but these look so clean, I would go for it. The prices are reasonable, but not cheap as Pete's as far as produce is concerned. Overall, I wouldn't mind shopping here if I don't want to take the drive to Pete's. I would much prefer this over Jewel. Although, the freshness is the same as Jewel, the shopping experience is so much better. They definitely have more produce options than Jewel and about the same as Pete's. read more

It's a credit to Alex and especially, Randall, both managers, that I got my order at all. Alex ordered the Personal Care Department's product that wasn't in stock, when it was on sale. I got a rain check and he told me probable dates of delivery that the truck comes. Randall was able to special order a specific product & quantity and attach my name to it. The product came in and Tarita, the Personal Care & Beauty stocker, apparently stocked the shelf with my order and 2 were sold. Rather than wait and go to the store again, I bought what was left. Previously, Tarita had asked for my number, offering to let me know when the product was restocked. It never happened. I would randomly go there ... and there it was ... on the shelf. She is so unreliable. That should have been a seamless operation once the managers got involved, but it wasn't. The relatively new general manager is nowhere to be found and is never on the floor. This is the first Mariano's I've been to and it definitely lived up to the hype. The grocery store itself is pretty nice, kind of like a bigger version of Whole Foods that offers the kinds of upper end gourmet products you wouldn't normally find at the other chain grocery stores in the area. But it's the food court that blew me away. Pretty much any kind of take out food you want is represented here from your traditional smorgasbord and salad bar to a sushi and oyster bar to BBQ and pizza. They even have a coffee and wine bar! Not sure I would do my weekly shopping there because they're a tad higher than Jewel or Tony's. But I've already picked up a couple of their prepared meals when I didn't feel like cooking after work and everything has been pretty good. read more

This store just keeps going downhill. So many items in dairy are constantly expired. They had the best fresh orange juice. They last few times it has been sour. Which leads me to believe they are changing expiration dates. Not sure if they are waiting for someone to become ill. I also don't know why you don't receive a discount in self checkout. They have eliminated so many employees and employee benefits that a discount would seem appropriate. If you go to full service checkout they never have have bagger's. They line your bags up next to the conveyor and you have to put them in the cart yourself. It was an amazing store when it first opened. I do not know what happened. read more

Great store! Always seems very clean. More often than not, they have the item I went in to buy. (Sometimes if it's on sale, I will find an empty shelf, but that has been rare.) I love their meats and feel they are better quality than their major competitor. Their salad bar usually is fresh and it seems to have quite a diverse selection. The last time I was in I noticed they'd added two vegan bins (one of cheese and I forget the other vegan-labelled option) and also fixings to make a taco salad (meat, roasted corn, beans, etc.) There is also a stir fry counter where you can fill a bowl with veggies, then choose a protein and a sauce and have the chef cook up the stir fry for you. This place went from being a top notch grocery store to a filthy unorganized dump within 6 months. And interestingly the prices have risen despite the sub par environment. The managers must be incompetent. Nobody holds anyone accountable for spills and mess in aisles along with constant palettes of stocking items cluttering up aisles. The deli counter is a mess and the meat department is a joke. The one shining star is Jane in the cheese department. The store used to be amazing when Eagle was around to crack the whip and keep some order. Either everyone is high on weed or they literally could care less about cleanliness. Someone needs to take the bull by the horns in that store. What a shame. I can do a better job and I'm not even in the grocery world. Some staff can be very unfriendly at your place of business. I was there today, during lunch@ 1:15. I asked to have my items bagged a certain way and the bagger frowned and did it her way. So I get home, the bag was soaked with the wet Watermelon and my hot food was all over the place with other items. One bag was ok but an experienced cashier would have put the wet Mellon in a plastic bag first, the other small items on top and Hot Food thereafter. The cashier had a bad attitude. My husband and I have been going to Marianos in Westchester every Saturday for dinner for the last few months. We get our meat grilled and sit at the bar--where they have drink specials--$2.00 beer and $3.00 wine. The bartenders are great and it is a friendly atmosphere. Lately we have been disappointed--one night we were told that there was nobody there to grill-only one person working in the butcher area. We ended up eating somewhere else. Tonight we came and found a sign had been posted saying the last grill order was 5:45. This was something new since last week. We ordered our meat to be grilled and were glad that it was 5:38 -- there were two employees working and they refused to grill our dinner. This is my first trip to Mariano's and I'm impressed. It's a big store and well laid out. I'm not a fan of the "restaurant stuff" in a grocery store, but I did appreciate the display of wines with someone to allow you to taste what she was hawking. She was very helpful when I asked for help choosing a wine for Thanksgiving dinner. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was something I saw that probably was a fluke. I was looking at cheese platters near the deli (a piece of wood wrapped in plastic wrap with cheese and nuts and cranberries arranged nicely) and found one that I wanted to purchase and it was the only one like it in the display. But there was a human hair inside on the cheese beneath the plastic. The store is clean and comfortable to shop in. And of course, the Vero Ice Cream is to die for. Tried Marion's delivery service for the first time. App was easy to work with and I was surprised that a delivery time slot (11:00am-Noon) was available. I placed the order, paid for it with a credit card, and received a confirmation. At 5:00pm that day still no delivery. I called Mariono's and was told they use a third party delivery service called instacart and could give no further information other than an 888 number. I called and was told there was a 56 minute wait for an operator. We cancelled the order. read more
