Plenty of parking. Everything was exceptional. The service was quick and there was no waiting but plenty of to go orders. The ambiance was home like and very intimate with lots of plants. Smaller inside but they can handle at least 4-5 tables of guest. Homemade fried pot stickers were the BEST that I have had in the area. The wonton soup was delicious. Nice and light but full of flavor. The scallion/green onion have it the perfect pop. The spicy crispy fried catfish was nice and crispy with many peppers that brought the perfect heat. I've been a regular at Yau's since I was little and my parents would take me to the owner's original restaurant in the city. So glad they are in the suburbs now. Great place for Thai/Chinese! Family owned for more than 40 years. You can taste their love through food and they are just the nicest couple. Service was inviting when the dining room was open. Since the pandemic, they are now only take out. But don't let that discourage you from ordering! Some favorites from Yau's is the fried smelt, that's lightly fried and has a delicious house sauce. The chicken satay and crab rangoon are always a must. Though, I think the crab rangoon is one of the best in the area. It's seasoned right, and not overly sweet or just a glob of flavorless cream cheese in the middle. The pad woon sen (glass noodle salad) is made of bean thread noodles, fresh red onion, cilantro, and tender ground pork. The house dressing is spicy and sour and great to eat as a lettuce wrap. The Thai friend rice with tender shrimp is epic! Don't get this confused with Chinese fried rice either. The Thai fried rice is seasoned differently and the rice is white compared to rice with soy sauce. It. Is. So. Good. My FAVORITE is the Lad Na beef. The beef is extra tender, the gravy is so flavorful and not salty, the wide rice noodles are crispy and tender, and the Chinese broccoli is steamed perfectly. Made authentically just like when I'm in Thailand. I see a lot of other Thai restaurants adding all kinds of veggies like carrots, mushrooms, and baby corn as a filler to bulk up and skimp out on the noodles and protein. read more

Yau's Place has been in La Grange for many years. We have dined there and had takeout countless times. The food is reliably good, staff attentive, prices are very fair. I sense that Yau's is more than a restaurant to the owners, its also a passion. In some ways, Yau's Place reminds me of Jimmy Fong's on Touhy in Chicago (long gone now) that i would go to with my parents and grandparents. It's never been crowded when I have been there. The service is good. I just like the food and the ambiance. The lunch special included a chicken potsticker (only one, but it was perfectly done and left me wanting more), chicken and rice soup and Tofu Pad Thai (deliciously seasoned and well presented; sizeable too). Chicken and Beef are the same cost, although Shrimp costs $1.50 extra. Ordered Pad Kee-Mao, homemade pot stickers & crab rangoons--so good! I'm new to the area & trying out restaurants, and I'm so glad I gave it a try. The rangoons were sweet rather than a strong green onion flavor (I prefer sweet), the potstickers were pan-seared & came with a soy sauce thickened with--I think--sugar. The Pad Kee-Mao was lightly spicy & filled with vegetables, the chicken was tender, and there was plenty of sauce. Definitely worth the trip read more

This place needs a renovation. The owner is very nice, and the only good food is the fried rice and egg rolls. They need to remove the back table with the stack of books, news papers and unnecessary garbage. The glassware was dirty, and noodles were not cooked well. I don't like to give negative reviews especially if it's a neighborhood restaurant. However, I was not satisfied with the quality of the food or flavor. We ordered the Kung Pao chicken, vegetable rolls, pad Thai, beef broccoli, and a few other items. The fried rice was very bland and you could barely see any meat. The sauces were very runny and very little flavor, and the Vege egg rolls were filled with a couple strands of cabbage or some sort of white vegetable. I really wanted to love this place because it's not far from my home and because I love to support neighborhood businesses. Sadly, I will not be returning. read more

Full disclosure: I went to Homecoming sophomore year in high school with the owners' daughter. She was a nice girl. Well, I didn't go with her--I went with my friend Nicole. But our friend Ari had a crush on Nicole, and Ari went with the daughter, so we switched dates halfway through the dance. Being gay (albeit closeted), I didn't care in the least. They were both nice girls. And Ari was cute, and I really wanted to see... But I digress. Yau's Place used to be on the South Side of Chicago for many years. They had their share of incidents. Then, Mr. Yau had a gun pulled on him and the family decided to move the business. They had been living in the La Grange area, so they decided to open up shop nearby. They've been open in La Grange for about three years now, I think. I never went there when it was in Chicago. I have been there four times when I have come back to La Grange. I never really interacted with the Yau family much when I was in high school, so they don't remember me. So I can go in anonymously and enjoy a meal. On to the food. I've really been impressed. The servings are ample and the ingredients are amazingly fresh. The food is well prepared--both the Thai food and the Chinese food. Every dish I've had seems to be made individually--not taken from a large vat. I get the sense that the Yaus are very proud of the food that they make. The decor is a little bit loud, but when I enter, I feel like I'm in the city, not in the suburbs. Everyone is friendly and attentive. The family is large, so it's likely that the serving staff are all family members. Bring your own wine. There's no corkage fee, and they'll even lend you a bottle opener. This is a simple, down home kind of place. Give Yau's a try and you'll be happy for a nice, authentic meal in a warm, inviting atmosphere. read more

My boyfriend and I rely heavily on Yelp reviews before deciding where to eat, so I like to pay it forward and help others find the gems and avoid the duds. Yau's Place is a gem for sure. We wanted Chinese after a day of driving and wandering around the zoo in the cold and he hit upon this place during a Yelp search. It wasn't too far from Brookfield Zoo. The restaurant is small, quaint, and extremely warm since the heat was on and blowing all over us. That part I didn't like. We started with veggie spring rolls and chicken Tom Yum soup. Both were DELICIOUS! I'd never had that soup but I would definitely get it again. The flavors of ginger, cilantro, onions, mushrooms, etc. came together perfectly. The veggie spring rolls were light and crispy and seasoned just right. Our entrees came out and were visually as pleasing as the taste. He had the hot pepper chicken, which he enjoyed and I ordered my usual chicken lo mein dish; however what came to the table was not your ordinary, average chicken lo mein. It was so much better! A heaping mound of stir-fried chicken and veggies (broccoli, snow peas, bamboo shoots, etc) in a light colored sauce which I'm guessing was a garlic sauce of some kind, on top of what looked like thin ramen noodles. It was so different that what I'm used to seeing I almost thought I got the wrong thing. But it was delicious. Even the fortune cookies were good. My boyfriend liked it because it reminded him of the fortune cookies from back in the day. My preference is for the lighter, crispier cookies that are more popular today, but it was still good. Food was good, but I was really won over by the service. We decided to sit indoors near the open door as it was a pleasant evening, but wanted to be away from the bustle of Burlington. The sun was just setting and our waiter made sure the door was cracked closed slightly to block the sun from hitting my eyes. I was touched by his attention to my comfort. We ordered tofu pad thai and spicy breaded catfish dinner. I prefer my food spicy and needed to add some hot pepper, but was happy with my meal. The tofu was cooked perfectly. My spouse loved the catfish. All through dinner, our water glasses were refilled even though the restaurant was starting to fill up. I never felt like we were not attended to. This is for the Chinese portion of the Menu, as I will NEVER have the Thai. This place is the epitome of BLAND!!! Not the worst I've ever had, but the only flavor to be found anywhere was in the dipping sauces, which really didn't make the egg rolls or pot stickers anymore appealing for another bite. Mongolian Beef had so much gravy in it I thought it should have been served in a 'boat' ... if it had been tasty, I truly would have loved it, but not so much. The ingredients are fresh and I thought the cashew was chicken pretty good but didn't have as much flavor as Thipi Thai's. They do have really good egg drop soup and remember ordering just this soup for lunch in the colder months. It's a cute little place on the inside and the owners are pretty friendly and provide good service. FYI - they are total sticklers on substitutions as far as the lunch specials go. I seem to remember not liking the spring rolls....they had some weird spice to them for me and I asked if I could just have a couple of fried won tons instead - DENIED. I mean they are just won tons! I'm gonna have to downgrade these guys. Ive been finding most of their dishes a bit too salty, or not spicy in the proper way (just dumping red chili sauce isn't going to cut it. I do enjoy going here, and i've been alot, but some things are galling. For instance, the otherwise delicious orange chicken has zero veggies. When you ask them to throw in some broc or onions or anything they want to charge the full price of a veggie side. I dont need 4 bucks worth of brocolli, if I did i'd be at Whole Foods. Some of the sauces are too similar too, from the noodles to some of the stir fry dishes. Finally, the fried rice is a big disappointment. Its flavored predominantly with soy, and looks like a dark brown pile of burn. Tastes alright, but needs some help. I'm not sure whats changed here, maybe I've been to too many truly remarkable Chinatown joints to cut Yau's any slack. Regardless, the service is still excellent here and I will continue to frequent it since it is a solid deal. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. People always need to complain about something. This place is LITERALLY a mom & pop shop. The wonderful owners are also the cooks & servers.
