I asked AI for some Chicago recommendations, this restaurant was on the list. We went there for a weekday lunch. Restaurant wasn't busy a few tables. Morden design and very southeastern style. They don't have a lunch menu. Thai Crispy Chicken was juicy in the inside and crispy on the outside. It comes with a side papaya salad which is really good and some jasmine rice. Indulged an incredibly filling/delicious Thai lunch @siamthai_chicago! Dove into some of my favorite comfort staples: huge shrimp Pad Thai, chicken satay (slightly salty) and peanut sauce, fresh mango on sweet sticky rice dessert and oh - just one very effective lychee martini! Gorgeous entryway, carefully decorated Thai decor, seating and intimate bar. Hostess and staff are exemplary. Came back again last week to celebrate another birthday with a different group of friends, and the food was still phenomenal! Everyone in our group loved it, and I'm happy to say the quality was just as good as our first visit. It's always nice to see a restaurant stay consistent. The service was much better this time as well, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The only downside was the BYOB policy. They charge $20 per bottle, which felt a bit steep, especially since some of the bottles we had cost less than the corkage fee itself. We ended up not bring the bottles. Unfortunately, around two of takeout was less successful Pad Thai 3.5/5. the strongest option with a good level of fish sauce, but got with shrimp which was huge in size and very overcooked so we didn't eat them. Chicken satay 2/5. Strange texture appears to have been fried but not crispy. Lack of flavor depth. Spring rolls 2/5. Lackluster. Khao Soi 3.5/5. Nice spike kick with some complexity, but didn't pop. Pineapple fried rice 2/5. Unexpectedly spicy, but didn't make up for that with flavor. Ended up frying an egg to round it out. read more

Came here for lunch and it was really good! The restaurant decorations are pretty! Service was a bit slow but it seems like they wanted us to enjoy our meals and not bother us. Pork Jowl - This was the best dish of the meal! The pork had a smoky flavor and a good ratio of fat on it. Very tender! I would eat this with papaya salad as a meal. Crying tiger - this was good but wasn't a fan of so much rosemary on top since it is not typically a Thai flavor. It also needed more acidity to the meat. Papaya salad- Tasted good but needed a bit more acidity to it as well. Got the mild and it was a bit more spicy than I personally prefer, but mixed with the meal it balanced out. Pork and shrimp cakes - couldn't really taste the shrimp in this and the filling could have been more full. It was still good but not amazing. Ordered pad thai, pad see ew, papaya salad, green curry, mango sticky rice for delivery. Our group did not enjoy the pad thai, as it lacked flavor. The pad see ew was OK, a bit on the oily side. We ordered it with beef and the pieces of meat were pretty small. The green curry might have been the favorite. I usually love papaya salad, and while I loved the crunch this one had, it was not spicy at all. I'm used to papaya salad usually having a bit of a kick but this one didn't have any flavor. Mango sticky rice was solid, definitely recommend ordering more than one if you are sharing with more than one other person as it's a smaller portion. Thai food made right! I did a quick search to find a bite before going to the fields museum and came across Siam Thai, 100% within walking distance and honestly a really nice walk! I wasn't sure how busy they might be so I made reservations and was seated upon arrival, they were certainly busy but I feel walk in could have been possible for a weekend dinner time. Waters came out right away and greeted with a smile, our server was very knowledgeable about their menu and when asked for recommendations she was prepared! Very helpful for new comers! We ordered the lychee martini and an old fashioned and we were both pleased with our drinks, strong enough but well balanced For starters, we were suggested to try the Siam Platter so we could try out their different appetizers, hands down the money bag dumplings were the best! And the sweet vinegar sauce was a MUST! For my main entree I went with the Pad Kra Pao, keep in mind this does have some kick to it but it was so full of flavor! The restaurant was dimly lit with little table lamps. Very romantic I would say. There were a lot of families (it was Mother's Day when we went). The had a high chair for my toddler. The portion sizes were really large and the presentation of the dishes were really beautiful. We ate with five adults and a toddler and were able to share everything. I loved the coconut shrimp the most! The Thai iced tea was also really good. Mango sticky rice was good but mango didn't taste like it was a good mango. We've come back many times, as Siam Thai continues to be our favorite nearby Thai spot. We usually come for an early dinner and have never had an issue just walking in. Our go-to dishes are the green curry and pad see ew with rib eye. The chive cakes are a hit with our kiddo. We've had the short rib curry and it was good, but could have had more short rib. The duck curry is also good. They are fairly kid-friendly. The staff are super nice and they have high chairs. They don't have paper or plastic cups or plates, so we usually bring our own. The décor is so cute and it was fun to see a menu with some different options. I appreciate that they have the gluten free and dietary restriction/allergen information labeled, which was helpful in my decision making. We got the Pomelo Crab Salad and it was delicious! What really blew me away was how insanely fast the food came out. For a place that busy, I was shocked at how quickly it arrived! I ordered the chicken pad kee mao and it was AMAZING. Perfect level of spice, tons of flavor, and every single bite was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the whole dish just worked. One of those plates where you keep saying "wow" halfway through. We also had Thai tea and it was more tea than milk which is a good sign. My only complaints would be that you cannot adjust spice levels (or we weren't asked at least) and wish the soup was a little spicier. My group ordered cocktails and meals, and this was not an inexpensive dining experience. Unfortunately, my visit was overshadowed by the restaurant's poor customer service. After receiving my meal, I realized it wasn't something I enjoyed and politely asked if I could switch to another entrée. I wasn't asking for a free meal. I was fully prepared to order the replacement dish, which was only about $10 less than my original order, and I even offered to add a side to make up the difference. Despite this, I was told I would still be charged for the original entrée and would need to purchase an entirely separate meal if I wanted something else. What was most disappointing was the manager's attitude. Instead of professionally explaining the restaurant's policy, she made rude and dismissive comments, including that the food "doesn't have a refund policy and they don't sale food with a warranty" and that the dish had been on the menu since the restaurant first opened. Neither comment was relevant to my request and only made the interaction feel unnecessarily confrontational. I understand that restaurants have policies, but those policies can be communicated respectfully. The issue wasn't being told no, it was how the situation was handled. A little courtesy and professionalism would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, this experience left a lasting negative impression and makes me hesitant to return. However, the dishes everyone else ordered were great and so were the cocktails. However, the service and how that situation was handled left a terrible impression. read more
