I was a little hesitant to try this place after reading some recent reviews, but it's my cousin's go-to spot for Thai food, and I'm glad we gave it a chance. We started with the curry puffs, which were delicious and a great way to kick off the meal. The Khao Soi was outstanding and easily the favorite dish of both my cousin and sister. I ordered the pork barbecue over rice, which was very flavorful and reminded me of Filipino pork tocino. We also tried the Kana Moo Krob. While the pork wasn't quite as crispy as expected, the rich brown sauce had plenty of umami flavor and made the dish enjoyable. The service was friendly and quick, and it was nice to see the staff recognize my cousin as a regular. The restaurant itself is small, but the tables are spacious and comfortable. We arrived at Silverspoon pretty late and They were only offering takeout at this point. It was super easy to order and our food was ready fast. I got the drunken noodles with chicken, mini eggrolls, and the spicy papaya salad. Everything was so delicious and I regret I did not take pictures of the food. Was totally craving Thai food and this was convenient for delivery plus a ton of options! Ordered through their website and it was super easy, delivered on time. My sister got pad see ewe, my brother in law got kana moo krab, and I got the crispy noodle curry with tofu and veggies, and seaweed salad to share. I got medium spice for my curry noodles, and while it could've been a little spicier, it was so flavorful that I didn't mind! I never had a crispy noodle dish like that, it was so interesting and delicious! Loved that it was packed with delicious tofu as well. The salad was super fresh and a great balance to the curry! We happened to walked in because we wanted Thai foods and also were hungry. It was lunch time. My friend and I ordered at the same time. Her food came out within 5 minutes. Mine never came out. I would think they would bring out our foods at the same time. I waited over 30 minutes and it never came out. Tried to catch the attention of the waitress but all I got was it's coming right out. But it's worth a try if you like the sweet taste. Tom yum Soup: Lack of lemongrass and coconut milk. Aren't they the soul of this dish? The heavy overwhelming saucy flavor takes place of the sour from the lemon and the umami from the 3 shrimp and mushrooms. Pad Thai: I'm not sure whether Thailand has this dish, like China doesn't have Chinese fried rice and Switzerland doesn't have Swiss Cheese. The dish also has a sweet saucy flavor, plus, peanut sauce. It's a big portion but the beef is overcooked and not chewy. Duck curry: My first time to try curry with duck. The best due to the pineapple dice. I 'm willing to have two bowls of rice for the curry soup. But the duck skin is a little fishy. All in all a very average experience. The chicken coconut soup was tasty but lacking in substance. 90% liquid. The shrimp pad thai was quite good. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars as compared to other Thai restaurants. Service was fast and friendly, but unfortunately the soup came out at the same time as the pad thai. I was literally the only customer in the restaurant. Timing appetizer and entree delivery would not have been that difficult. The dining room is clean and comfortable. It's in a basement. I ordered Pad Thai from this establishment about a month ago, and it was outstanding. I gave a rave review. I returned to Chicago last Monday and invited a guest to go with me, having bragged about this place. We both ordered a lunch item, and an appetizer. My entree was delivered to the table, first, then soon after, the appetizer. My guest was left with nothing, and AFTER 10 MINUTES I informed the waiter that my guest had also ordered a meal, and I would have appreciated being served together. No apologies. When we did start to eat, the food was so INCREDIBLY OVER SPICED that it was not edible. I mentioned to the waiter, that I couldn't eat it, as it was so insanely hot. My guest was served chicken Curry that was so hot he couldn't eat it. It was almost as if our dishes were sabotaged. Again no apologies for anything. I was not only disappointed, but embarrassed as well. I travel for a living and have Thai food all the time, but this Pad Thai was insanely spicy. I work for an airline, and we stay at a hotel within walking distance, I'll be SURE and tell fellow crew members to avoid this place. There are simply too many good restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel that I can afford to skip this place in the future. I'm a VERY good tipper and when the service/food is really good, I usually tip 50% of my bill. I would never stiff a service worker, so I left him only 10% of our bill, and he wasn't deserving of that.
