Pad Kee Mao (Chicken)
William K.

A positive word first: the place looks exquisite compared to most standard Thai food dining experiences. I've been here a few times, and each time the food was good! I've explored the menu a bit over my various visits, and it's definitely Thai Food with a master's degree. Now, why did I give this place 2 stars if the food was this good? I'm glad you asked. The main character of any restaurant is not the decor or even the food itself; it's the SERVICE! My criteria for rating any restaurant starts and ends with the service, and over many visits, I've experienced the most mid-low grade service ever. For an establishment that cosplays as a high-end Thai food dining experience, the pricing of the food doesn't match the lackluster efficiency of the wait staff. I don't think it's a 'staff' issue per se as much as it's a 'management' issue. The workers are more than capable, but just like the 2002 Sacramento Kings: THEY GOT ALL THE TOP TALENT TO WIN, BUT HORRIBLE COACHING! Upon my last visit, I ordered the (Chicken) Pad Kee Mao and a Shirley Temple (it's on the menu, so I wanted to live on the edge a little). Okay, simple order right? Well, the good news is the Pad Kee Mao came out in a timely manor! However, the Shirley Temple arrived when I was about 70% done with my plate of food. A virgin drink that should take less than 3-4 minutes to make on an evening where it wasn't busy (and not near closing time) arrived late to the party. On top of that, it had no straw. Meh! Another server who wasn't even my designated server saw that I needed a straw, and went out of her way to get one for me (shoutout to her, the real MVP)! The same server also had to cash me out, because I have NO IDEA where my initial server went. She just vanished, then reappeared after I paid the tab to ask me if I wanted dessert. Ma'am, I'm on my way out...forreal!?? Perhaps it's plausible that the original server went a break, or had something serious happen, but in all my years of patronizing restaurants, I never experienced that until that moment. No explanation; just "WANT DESSERT" as I'm about to depart. Wild! The other general quirk about this restaurant is MOST Thai restaurants at least offer chopsticks. I have to ask for them each and every time. Maybe it's assumed that a certain demographic doesn't want them ("Americans"), but this is a constant ick with this place. So here's my final thoughts: Great place if you want to bring a date along and impress her with a psuedo-fancy dining experience, and also flex your 401K when you're paying for hyper-inflated Thai food that costs 3-4xs the standard rates so the restaurant can pay their south loop rent...but if you really value 'service' as a general patron who's hungry and appreciates quality service, this is the last option on the list. GREAT FOOD, so perhaps just get your orders to go or DoorDashed. The most economic meal you're gonna get will be slightly under $30 if you DON'T get any appetizers, alcoholic drinks, or order dessert. The pricing and the service are two separate entities that don't converge here. It's upscale Thai dining with mid-tier service at best.

Shrimp Pad Thai

Indulged an incredibly filling/delicious Thai lunch @siamthai_chicago! Dove into some of my favorite comfort staples: huge shrimp Pad Thai, chicken satay (slightly salty) and peanut sauce, fresh mango on sweet sticky rice dessert and oh - just one very effective lychee martini! Gorgeous entryway, carefully decorated Thai decor, seating and intimate bar. Hostess and staff are exemplary. In my opinion, the right music makes dining 100% so my only suggestion would be to add more Thai traditional instrumental and or contemporary playlist.

Came back again last week to celebrate another birthday with a different group of friends, and the food was still phenomenal! Everyone in our group loved it, and I'm happy to say the quality was just as good as our first visit. It's always nice to see a restaurant stay consistent. The service was much better this time as well, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The only downside was the BYOB policy. They charge $20 per bottle, which felt a bit steep, especially since some of the bottles we had cost less than the corkage fee itself. We ended up not bring the bottles. Overall, we still had a great experience. The delicious food and improved service definitely make this a place I'll continue coming back to.

Came here for lunch and it was really good! The restaurant decorations are pretty! Service was a bit slow but it seems like they wanted us to enjoy our meals and not bother us. Pork Jowl - This was the best dish of the meal! The pork had a smoky flavor and a good ratio of fat on it. Very tender! I would eat this with papaya salad as a meal. Crying tiger - this was good but wasn't a fan of so much rosemary on top since it is not typically a Thai flavor. It also needed more acidity to the meat. Papaya salad- Tasted good but needed a bit more acidity to it as well. Got the mild and it was a bit more spicy than I personally prefer, but mixed with the meal it balanced out. Pork and shrimp cakes - couldn't really taste the shrimp in this and the filling could have been more full. It was still good but not amazing. Overall I would try this again and some other dishes!

I asked AI for some Chicago recommendations, this restaurant was on the list. We went there for a weekday lunch. Restaurant wasn't busy a few tables. Morden design and very southeastern style. They don't have a lunch menu. Thai Crispy Chicken was juicy in the inside and crispy on the outside. It comes with a side papaya salad which is really good and some jasmine rice. I ordered Pad See Ew, this is one of my favorite Thai dishes lately. This is definitely one of the best I have. Crunch Vegs, bounce noodle and flavorful tofo.

Pad See Ew

Ordered pad thai, pad see ew, papaya salad, green curry, mango sticky rice for delivery. Our group did not enjoy the pad thai, as it lacked flavor. The pad see ew was OK, a bit on the oily side. We ordered it with beef and the pieces of meat were pretty small. The green curry might have been the favorite. I usually love papaya salad, and while I loved the crunch this one had, it was not spicy at all. I'm used to papaya salad usually having a bit of a kick but this one didn't have any flavor. Mango sticky rice was solid, definitely recommend ordering more than one if you are sharing with more than one other person as it's a smaller portion. Overall, a decent meal but didn't knock my socks off. I've definitely had more flavorful thai food.

Soft Shell Crab Mango Salad and Pad Thai

This was just GAS. The pad thai was full of flavor and large enough to share. The soft shell crab was cooked to perfection. So much flavor. They have a cute bar if you're into that, and the restaurant itself if very cutesy. Did not disappoint during my trip! Service was speedy.

Thai food made right! I did a quick search to find a bite before going to the fields museum and came across Siam Thai, 100% within walking distance and honestly a really nice walk! I wasn't sure how busy they might be so I made reservations and was seated upon arrival, they were certainly busy but I feel walk in could have been possible for a weekend dinner time. Waters came out right away and greeted with a smile, our server was very knowledgeable about their menu and when asked for recommendations she was prepared! Very helpful for new comers! We ordered the lychee martini and an old fashioned and we were both pleased with our drinks, strong enough but well balanced For starters, we were suggested to try the Siam Platter so we could try out their different appetizers, hands down the money bag dumplings were the best! And the sweet vinegar sauce was a MUST! For my main entree I went with the Pad Kra Pao, keep in mind this does have some kick to it but it was so full of flavor! Overall great experience and will return!

Crispy Coconut Shrimp

We had a wonderful early dinner after a long day of walking and exploring. The staffs are friendly and welcoming. Pad Kee Mao with vegetables has good amount of vegetables to noodle ratio; love the spiciness as well. Coconut shrimp dish includes pad Thai and rice that's also very delicious with huge tiger shrimps. Both dishes are generous portions and full of flavors. Service is fast. Highly recommended

$20 Siam Platter: money bag dumplings, chive cakes, chicken satay (4) $15 Grilled Pork Jowl

The restaurant was dimly lit with little table lamps. Very romantic I would say. There were a lot of families (it was Mother's Day when we went). The had a high chair for my toddler. The portion sizes were really large and the presentation of the dishes were really beautiful. We ate with five adults and a toddler and were able to share everything. I loved the coconut shrimp the most! The Thai iced tea was also really good. Mango sticky rice was good but mango didn't taste like it was a good mango. Siam dessert set is nice to share and if you like coconut.

Pad Thai
Jacquelyn C.

The interior design of this place is sooo cute I absolutely loved the vibes. I ordered a thai tea which was good although a little bit too much on the creamy side for my taste. We ordered the salmon carpaccio, tom kha, pad thai, pad kee mao, and mango sticky rice. The salmon carpaccio was very good--tangy, light, and fresh. The pad thai and pad kee mao were alright in my opinion--lacked some flavor. The mango sticky rice was good as well.

Pad See Ew with chicken

I was in the area and needed to burn some time and grab a bite. I stumbled across this gem of a restaurant. The inside of this place is so beautiful and welcoming. The food and the service was great! And the freshly made hibiscus tea was AMAZING! I will definitely be back!

Billy T.

Great food! It's busy on a weekend evening so I'd recommend a reservation, for good reason. Favorite was the red curry- delicious and better than the still good green curry. Pad kee Mao was also tasty. No complaints from me.

Did not wait too long but my family does not like waiting at all Ordered the soup to share- total win. I could have poured that juice in like water it was so good. The lemongrass and fresh ginger. Reminded me of the food we ate in Vietnam. Lots of shrimp, fresh mushrooms and a nice amount for a family of 4 before our meals. I ordered the Talay Pad Pong. That sauce once again made me shake my head. Could not believe how flavorful and unique it was. I shared a tiny bit with my family. Just enough to get a try of their Pad Thai. Pad Thai: I'm always like common branch out. This one did not taste anything like any other pad Thai we have had before. It was silky and saucy. Like a Thai broth- not dry like some just barely covering the noodles. Fill our two teenage boys up. Okay, dessert. Came for the mango sticky rice . Did not disappoint. We got 1 to share. Bad move. Next time 4. One for each of us. I have no idea how they made this but it was moist, purple. Sweet mango. Really kind of a dream come true. Kanom Tuay next: not really a sharing dessert, but we did. It sits in a coconut wet custard, mochi like balls- small. Very hot. In a hurry to beat our parking meter we ate quickly and learned next time. Mango sticky rice wins our tongue. Anyways, this place is vibrant , cute, friendly and delicious! Go check it out.

To put it in perspective, the Khao Soi we ordered is a curry base yet that was the most mild and almost acted like a pallet cleanser for us. I appreciated the spice levels as well. Indeed, this spot did not let me down! It is a small Thai restaurant in West Loop, with a large menu featuring monthly specials and quite a few dishes I rarely find in other Thai restaurants in U.S. For food, we ordered the following: 1. Khao Ka Moo: a stewed pork hock platter served with rice, pickled mustard greens, shitake mushrooms, sauce (similar to soy-sauce) and egg (which I opted out). It was my first time to have pork hock in a Thai restaurant. The meat was juicy and the skin was mouth-melting. Highly recommended. 2. JJ Tiger Cry: Basically grilled ribeye served with Thai style sides. The ribeye was cooked at ~medium well. I wish it could be a fattier cut and cooked for a shorter time, but my friend thought the temp. was perfect for her. It was served with a Thai sauce and cabbage+carrot slaw. 3. Green Curry Chicken: my sister's entree. The curry tasted refreshing and flavorful. It was also great that the dish came with both rice noodles and jasmine rice, so you can try both of them -- indeed, the rice noodles, after soaking it in the green curry, tasted heavenly! 4. Yum Hed. Grilled mushroom salad. There were shitake and king oyster mushroom. Served over a bed of fresh lettuce and a kind of spciy, sour sauce. Great as a side. 5. Guay Tiew Tom Tum Koong: Shrimp and rice noodles served in a generous bowl of Tom Yum Soup. It also had much veg. Unfortunately, I am allergic to some seafood so for safety I did not try this dish. Overall, the dishes are of medium sizes, but definitely enough for us. Service was friendly and quick. I may try more dishes the next time I visit Chicago.

The food was completely underwhelming, and when we shared our concerns with the staff, nothing was done to address them. The service was equally disappointing. Our server spent much of the time sitting on her phone while we waited for basic service like water refills, being asked about drinks, and receiving the drinks we ordered. We repeatedly had to get up and find someone just to receive attention. As for the food, the gyoza was bland and tasted like unseasoned pork. The lemongrass beef stew curry, which was highly recommended, arrived cold, had an odd texture, and lacked any real flavor. Most shocking of all were the drunken noodles. I've ordered them countless times over the years and always considered them among the best in Chicago. This time, I couldn't get past a single bite. Every dish was left unfinished. We didn't finish a single plate and didn't take any leftovers home--something that never happens for us. Between the poor service and incredibly disappointing food, this was an awful dining experience from start to finish. Unfortunately, after being a longtime customer, I won't be returning.
