Service is excellent, good was good, dessert was good, and wait time for my food was okay as they were a little busy. I noticed first that my table was not set like every other table. It was missing the candle and salt n pepper shakers. I assumed they just finished cleaning it. Drink: beer... Nice and cold and crisp. Wonderful temp! My server brought bread rolls without butter. Soup: I ordered French onion soup. It has a good flavor well balanced and not salty. I wanted to try the artichoke dip but it would have been an abundance of food. We have passed by this restaurant multiple times and have always wanted to give it a try. The 2026 restaurant week deal is a wonderful excuse for us to splurge. With the $45 per person dinner menu, we tried: 1) bacon-wrapped dates* 2) pita chips with artichoke parmesan* 3) braised short rib with mashed potatoes* 4) chicken piccata 5) chocolate peanut butter pie* I especially enjoyed the items marked with an asterisk and that is the majority of the items that we tried. My favorite is the artichoke parmesan because the artichoke was succulent and flavorful. The chicken piccata was light and could have used a little more seasoning. Service was attentive and friendly. Our server knew we had just returned from a weekend trip and was considerate enough to bring a plate of snacks with carrot sticks, celery, oranges, and apple wedges for our young daughters. Went to Steak & Vine for dinner recently and wow this place was incredible. The moment I walked in, it smelled amazing, It's kind of fancy, but not in a way that makes you feel out of place. I ordered the New York Strip (medium) with mashed potatoes. The steak had a nice char on the outside and juicy on the inside. Super flavorful, I didn't need any sauce or anything, it was that good on its own. The mashed potatoes were bomb too. Creamy, buttery, and I think there was a little garlic in there? Either way, I ate every bite. Our server was great, super friendly and the vibe the whole time was just really relaxed. You could definitely come here for a date night. Cute spot with limited dining hours. I decided to check them out as they were listed on a dining rewards program. Service was very friendly. We were greeted promptly and checked in on often. I had one cocktail that was very tasty. All of their drink names are named for song titles which is clever. I went with the crab cake that was pretty good, but smothered in their sauce. The fries it was served with were tasty. I decided to also get a loaded baked potato and it was huge. I also had a bite of my husband's burger and it was tasty. Came here for dinner. They have evening hours so be mindful of that. Parking is very convenient as the garage is right around the corner. I ordered the classic burger and tots. Both were good. You also get some bread prior to the meal (always a win) . My one drink was the strawberry fields forever (very good). The only knock is they didn't clean the tables. What a surprisingly great experience! Met friends for dinner and each of us went with their restaurant week special. For $45 it included choice of first course I had the wedge salad with blue cheese dressing, stuffed dates and lobster bisque were enjoyed by my friends. Monday is 1/2 price wines for bottles $100 or less. We had a lovely Cabernet from Orwin Swift, followed by the Parmesan crusted Mahi on a bed of roasted vegetables and a brownie sundae. Stopped in during the week after shopping close by. The place was a ghost town. We were the only people sitting in the bar area and 3 tables in the back. Food was okay. Bread tasted a bit stale. Two items we liked the most were the Bacon Wrapped Dates and the Brussel sprouts. The steak special (2 4oz filets) was Nothing special. Our server was very nice and friendly. The bread rolls they brought out were cold. A few minutes in the oven would help. They brought them out wrapped in a napkin so I thought they'd be warm....nope! I ordered the center cut filet medium, it came out almost well done. The Asian Brussels sprouts had good flavor but burnt to a crisp. I had them replace it with mashed potatoes. I'll start with the service, which was impeccable. The manager himself helped us rearrange tables outside and even brought out a high chair for our little one. Jen, our server, was polite, knowledgeable, and very attentive. She came out and checked in on us several times during the meal, and we felt her warmth. She was great. The actual food was slightly underwhelming. If you think about restaurants along the BNSF line near the train station - Foxtail (Downers Grove), Vie (Western Springs) and others, this was priced similarly but the food wasn't quite there. Nothing we ordered really stood out as WE HAVE TO COME BACK and I thought some of the preparation was a bit more on the unrefined side. More like good tavern food instead of fine dining, with decent flavors but nothing super special. We felt they used good ingredients. The Wagyu was cooked to a medium well and the mashed potatoes weren't super well-mashed, and the shrimp and grits felt a bit sloppy and too soupy for shrimp and grits. Took a group of eleven to Steak & Vine on a Monday. What a great time we had. One guest raved she had the best steak she'd ever had in her life! Another had a ribeye and ate every bite. Others had things all across the menu and loved them. My filet was perfect. The mashed potatoes were like goin' home. To start, we had bacon wrapped dates and crostini to raves of satisfaction. We finished with a flame of a candle and chocolate flourless cake and bourbon ice cream, yum um, celebrating an anniversary. Lots of wine went down--half price Monday! The stars are for our server. She was lovely. The food, however, was not. Chips with the chips & dip app had zero salt, so zero flavor. House salad was small and oily. Medium rare strip steak was so underdone, half of the middle was purple. Salmon tasted like butane. Short ribs had an off cinnamon taste and raw carrots. Didn't bother with dessert. I really hate to give this restaurant only 3 stars but I feel like I'm being pretty darn generous considering my experience. The restaurant is really cute and the service is prompt, but nothing was good except for the chopped salad and the dessert. The short ribs were honestly gross and looked like it had been poured out of a can of dinty moore beef stew. It has a weird flavor that was sweet like cinnamon or nutmeg, no garlic or salt. I sent it back as I couldn't handle that flavor on short ribs. I got the filet mignon instead cooked medium. It was a great cut of steak very tender but not cooked medium as it was blood red in the middle. The baked potato was clearly not fresh it was hard and dark brown with a crusty rind inside. Maybe they need a new cook, since there's lots of unfulfilled potential here. My mom got the shrimp linguine pasta which was hot fresh and good. The side of spinach and mushrooms was tasteless and was not baby spinach, huge stems that were difficult to chew. The desserts were free due to the issues with my meal. And the desserts were by far the best parts of the meal. The apple pie was more like a tart or crostada, flaky buttery and delicious with rich vanilla ice cream and caramel. Yum! The key lime pie was good too although not a true key lime pie, it was more of a lime cream or ice box pie. Tart and sweet at the same time perfect balance. Now on to when we got the check. This was the worst part, they gave me the correct check but then ran my credit card for over 2x the amount. I'm not sure if this was an effort to defraud me or just an accident. Nothing they did added up to the correct amount of my actual check. I have 3 different receipts with different amounts. I know math is hard but give me a break. My table shouldn't be mixed with other tables bills. I'll be sure to check my credit card bill to make sure the right amount was charged. I either paid for nothing or paid for half the restaurants dinner last night. Phew! read more

We had Jill as our server one time and Georgie the other; both were fabulous. The first visit they knew we were celebrating our anniversary and brought out a fun sparkler with our dessert! A bit of full disclosure before my review...When I was brought in as the Environmental Health Inspector in La Grange in 1989 (later to become Community Development Director for 27 years total). Some of the first people I met in the business community was the Gangas family. Tom (Tommy) Gangas from Inkahoots quickly got me involved and supporting the La Grange Business Association (LGBA). It literally was a shadow of what it is today, virtually all special events in La Grange are conducted by them, and they now have full time staff members. To a degree, he and Eddie Moy were visionaries. So Nick Gangas, a La Grange resident, came to us to open his new concept, Steak and Vine a few years back. Which he did! Anyone in the family will tell you I am not at all gratuitous about compliments (government employee occupational hazard). But despite adversity with a pandemic, a challenging supply chain and employee issues, that every venue is negotiating, Nick has built something special and raised the bar in La Grange on the dining scene. I know that not everyone can often afford a $42 steak dinner on a regular basis (you can always share, trust me, portions are generous!), but given the environment we are living in, they have done extremely well! There are many other options, including delivery, which I got last night. It was ahead of schedule and hot and delicious! Some solid recommendations: First, the Key Lime pie is epoch! Most are bitter, this is not, (is YaYa in the Kitchen??). The French onion soup is killer! If during Bears season they go back with a brunch and the endless Mimosa's or Bloody Mary's for a nominal price of like $10 (at the time), it was a go to place before games with great brunch options, again be prepared to share or bring some home. From the moment you walk in, if Nick isn't front and center, one of his great staff members will be, and make you feel like you are at their home! Highly recommend for a relaxing time out! read more

My husband and I decided to come here for our anniversary dinner. It has been on our to try list for a while and thought it was a good occasion. The inside looks pretty small, but it really opens up in the back. When you first walk in, make sure you go to the door on the left because straight through is a chinese restaurant (which honestly looked pretty inviting). Our waitress was very nice and helpful telling us the specials right away and being super accommodating as my husband chose which whiskey he wanted (apparently they have a very good list according to him). I ordered a glass of wine because the cocktails didn't tickle my fancy, but if you are a whiskey fan you will probably try something you want. For a starter, we got the bacon wrapped dates filled with goat cheese and an apricot chutney. It was absolutely spectacular! This is an absolute must if you come here. For the entree, I ordered the braised short ribs. They were full of flavor and extremely tender. The potato and veggies were great additives. The entire dish was warm and comforting. Perfect for a fall evening. My husband ordered the pork chop. It was flavorful and cooked well. If you like pork chops, this was top notch; however, it lacked a sauce to really set it over the top. For dessert, we ordered the peanut butter chocolate pie. It was fantastic! It was heavy on the peanut butter flavor, so make sure you enjoy it. The texture was rich and creamy and was a perfect way to end the evening. In addition to that, it was free! The restaurant gave us the desert for free to celebrate our anniversary. It was a great surprise and a nice treat. Normally, you have a cup of ice cream or cookie when the desert is free, but we actually got one of their more popular items. Had an amazing dinner at this gem of a restaurant while on a recent work trip. Food and service hands down wonderful. The area is chock full of restaurants, shops and services on a quaint downtown main street. We ordered cocktails to start, I had the "buckledown cactus pants" lager which was delicious. For dinner I had the shrimp & grits, side of the Brussels sprouts. My two colleagues had the meat loaf. All I can say is wow for the food. Everything was prepared to perfection, delivered hot and tasted fantastic. I had a bite of the meatloaf and I must say it beats my homemade secret recipe which is saying a LOT. I literally could have just eaten a couple sides of Brussels sprouts... they were that good... but then I would not have had the Shrimp/Grits (HUGE shrimp) which were divine. No room for dessert, as a matter of fact my fellow diners (both men) commented on how they could have split the meat loaf given the portions were very hearty. We had out year old son with us and no reservation, so it was last minute on a Saturday but they were able to accommodate us very quickly. Service was fantastic. My husband had a steak which was juicy and flavorful, and I had their veggie pasta with was light and bright. The menu isn't huge, but has a good variety for everyone. Based on experience, the "glowing" reviews here are fake/biased because the quality of the food we got was awfully poor. A bottle of wine and free dessert delivered personally for missing items due to GrubHub/DoorDash? I don't think so honey. I LOL'd when I read that one in a previous review. Grubhub gets it wrong all the time just about every time everywhere. Its just a fact of life in these Covid times. Restaurants aren't doing so well now. They would go out of business instantly if they really did that. Lopsided reviews are a red flag. I ordered a cheesecake as part of my order. It looks like I got about half of one. I'm not sure if the driver was unhappy and ate part of it or if the chef actually made it this way. (this is a $9 cheesecake). I'm a girl that knows her desserts. A good chef takes pride in their work, and if the chef here is any good at all he should be ashamed of himself. The cheesecake had a very loose consistency and did not taste good. I did not like the burger either. The driver was late and the burger was no longer warm so that may have been part of it. I uploaded a picture of the cheesecake. This is exactly how I got it. I would NEVER buy a cheesecake that looks like that for $9 and can't imagine anyone doing so. But yah know wat? I already paid for it so I guess they didn't care.
