MilkStop is such a cute little find in La Grange! I went with a coworker and it was a really nice spot to grab lunch and catch up. The space has a cozy, neighborhood feel, and I love that it's a little different from the typical restaurant options in the area. The menu has a fun mix of elevated comfort food and café favorites.The MilkStop Chilaquiles and the shaved prime rib sandwich both caught my eye, ended up choosing the staple which was so delicious. I also really liked the location. It's in the West End of La Grange, a little farther from the main restaurant cluster, so it feels like you're making a little neighborhood discovery rather than just stopping at one of the obvious places downtown. Cute spot for brunch (though the rest of their menu looks good as well!) in La Grange. We were able to eat a late brunch around noon on Saturday without having made a reservation. They had a list of fun Bloody Mary's. My husband ended up getting the Flamin' Hot one, which came with Flamin' Hot Cheetos. He said the flavor was good. I ordered a chocolate croissant. At first, I questioned that it wasn't toasted or crispy, but I actually ended up really liking the texture and flavor. It was not too sweet. I ordered the shakshuka for my entree. I was told it would be very spicy. I am someone who eats a lot of spicy food, so I thought the spice level was very tolerable. The flavors were good. First and foremost - everyone I interacted with was SUPER KIND, and I really liked some aspects of the experience. But for a premium price, I expect premium product, and this place is rough around the edges in ways that feel easy to fix. I'm pointing them out in hopes they'll be corrected. First the positive - the food was pretty good. Not great for the price, but pretty good. Drip coffee was better than most diners/cafes in the area. The ambience was pleasant. Here's the issues. 1. The furniture needs a refresh and I don't think the place has even been open that long. The side tables by the window are losing their finish - a fragment of wood got caught under my finger nail as I was sitting down and just lightly grazed the table with my hand. I also brushed away a few additional flakes coming up. The chiffon curtains are charming until you look closer and see they're speckled with food from past diners. A moss ball decoration in the bathroom is missing half its moss. It's little stuff, obviously, but when I spot things like this at a place otherwise charging a premium partially for cute aesthetics, I always get concerned that the lack of attention to detail might also be getting reflected in the food. 2. Value for money and food quality are also an issue. $20 for one slice of sourdough cut in half, a rather overdone French omelette with sour cream on top (not mentioned on the menu and a weird choice) a bowl of fruit I wasn't interested in rather than a choice of free side, and sausages I paid extra for, is not good value to me. The bread was good! The omelette was mediocre. The sausage was very solid, had a slight funk to it that I liked and suggested to me it was made in house - but 7 dollars for two sausage patties is absolutely wild. I would suggest Milkstop rethink the combos on its menu to include more and be priced a touch more transparently. 3. Finally, service. Everyone was VERY KIND, again, want to stress that, but service was slow and rather inattentive for most of the meal. The place was only half full, but water and an initial drink order were slow, and I waited for a while for the check while the staff chatted amongst themselves in the corner of the room. Not trying to be a dick, the life of a service worker is tough, but the place was mostly empty and I noticed they already charge a 3% service gratuity on your orders, so I'd expect a little better. Basically this place has a very charming surface with some wonkiness around the edges. I will definitely come back again but guys, come on - ditch the gross chiffon curtains, for both our sakes. read more

He KNOWs what you like to eat, but he's gonna throw a curveball in there to make it special. Great local spot, homey and cozy! This place is so cute, great for brunch and lunch, they have great selection of alcohol and brunch items. I had a hard time choosing an option on the menu to be honest. It looks like they change their items because items on the menu were different than options on Yelp. Their sweets look to die for and are definitely homemade. We ended up getting the chilaquiles which seems to be a popular option and went home with a cinnamon roll. Service was kind and attentive. Downtown LaGrange is such a quaint and lovely section of Chicagoland. The setting of Milkstop Cafe is on a corner, and it takes up two parts of a building. The menu for evening is different from what we had in our lunchtime dining, and we hope to go back to try those entrees. Good was delicious, well presented, and in large servings. My husband and I came here last year with a couple of friends and we absolutely adored it. In fact we were going to go to Yau's; but my husband decided to take me here because of the wonderful time we had last year. This time however I was a little taken back on our service. We sat at the bar, because I've always said the best service is always at the bar. We ordered drinks and browsed at the menu. My husband has a few health issues going on; and opted for the Shaved Prime Rib without a roll and didn't want fries but asked to substitute rice. We didn't think this would be such a big deal because the side of rice was less than a side order of fries. After we placed the order our bartender told us we would have to buy the side order of rice. I should have just told him to forget it and pay for our drinks and go to the MANY other restaurants in the area, but my wonderful husband said it was fine; and ok'd the order. I pushed my glass of wine to the side as to not finish it quickly and order another one; my husband finished his beer, his water and my water. The food arrived. My Pesto Chicken sandwich was beautiful, however my husband was served with two small sad bowls one with the saved prime rib and the other bowl of the sad looking bowl of rice. It was pretty underwhelming, no garnish of lettuce...no nothing. We sat there for a bit without silverware and without any water refill. My husband walked over to an empty table and took the silverware off of the table to the right of the bar. 5 minutes later was the "check up". My husband informed the bartender that we weren't given silverware and the bartender apologized and offered to buy him a drink. We finished our meal and the bartender asked my husband about the free drink. My husband opted to ask the bartender to remove the side of rice off of the tab instead. Another 5 minutes later we were told the "exchange " was approved. It's so sad. We each probably would have had 1-2 more drinks and share a dessert. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. We were able to grab a last minute Valentine's Day reservation and it worked out perfectly. First, staff was very friendly. Second, great cocktail menu- decided to try the creamy limoncello Collins. I went with a rum cocktail and their limencello. Both were tasty. Many of their drinks are $13 -$16. I went with the soup of the day, which was chicken noodle. I also had the ahi tuna salad. The tuna was super flavorful. They used quite a bit of dressing. I saw many people ordering burgers, which looked amazing. I definitely would return to try one. The service was very friendly. I went here for brunch with friends before driving back to St. Louis. I ordered Shakshuka since you don't see it so often. I got a spicy stew with poached eggs on top. Not Shakshuka. The whole thing that makes Shakshuka great is the eggs poaching in the stew (preferably in an oven), the spice and flavors infuse the eggs. This is just a lazy version. Milkstop Cafe is hands down my favorite restaurant. The service is always top notch - never have to wait too long to order a drink, appetizer, or meal. And most importantly, when I'm ready to leave, I don't have to feel like a hostage because I can't get the wait-person's attention to get the check. Milkstop has great cocktails and great food. We absolutely loved our first time here!! We chose to sit at the bar because there would be a wait for a table. We sat at 7:15 and the other seats were completely full (we were the only ones left at the bar by 8:15). The volume overall was wonderful. Music was soft and it never felt very loud, which shocked me for a place in the small side. The gentleman behind the bar was very upbeat, attentive, and gave us great recommendations for our meal. We started with the homemade pâté - OMG. So fluffy and packed with flavor. The mustard, pickles, and cranberries all complimented very well. Next we split the Cobb salad - which was awesome and big enough for an entree. All the ingredients were crunchy & fresh - even the $2 blue cheese addition tasted great. So good i forgot a picture. We still wanted to try a traditional entree so we got the Lumache Alla Zazzona. Packed with garlic, cheese, and spice - perfect!!! Pasta was a little past al dente - but we didn't mind and loved the meat they added. Also big enough portion to split. I ordered the shichimi encrusted seared ahi tuna salad. The tuna was extremely chewy and the dressing was so acidic it was inedible. The rest of my family seemed to like their food, though. Hate leaving a bad review for a local business, but it was well earned. We stopped in for dinner and were underwhelmed by the tasteless meatballs, undercooked broccoli and over sauced crab cake egg roll. A male waiter repeatedly walked past our table and clapped loudly, one clap, every time he walked past- it was very jarring and disruptive to our meal. In addition, several other waiters and kitchen staff were hanging around the end of the bar having what one could only call a social hour. It's a perch sandwich and the handling of the fish is amazing. It's sweet, tender, so light in taste they might have caught the fish today.
