My friend and I stopped by yesterday evening and I have been here before. I recall from that visit feeling rushed though out the meal...I can't decipher if it's because of the efficient service OR they are ready for the next guests to grab a table. This time was similar. Our check was brought to us without even asking. The place was pretty empty since it was a Wednesday evening. The gyoza were good yet average. The tempura was soggy and really greasy with each bite. We got two rolls - not really impressed by either one but also edible. The dessert was just terrible. We got the molten chocolate cake and it tasted like dirt. The ice cream flavor was supposed to be green tea, it tasted rancid. We did not eat it, one bite each, and when asked if they could take it away, I stated that we didn't love it. I didn't check the receipt to see if it was charged or not. One thing I did enjoy was my Yuzu sparkling drink, refreshing - not too sweet, not too boozy. Lots of pay to park parking available. Kind of a long walk between the Blue and Green Line stations but worth it. The best time to go is at lunch because it's not as busy and because of the cheaper specials. After looking around town we came here. It was lunch which made it good timing because we paid less and got more. The lunch special was the Sushi Plate. It's $16 to get quite a lot. This comes with a soup and salad, then your choice of rolls. One is the Veggie Choice. This includes a Futo Veggie Maki, as well as either a Sweet Potato Maki or a Veggie Tempura Maki. Basically the first one is a veggie roll with the usual vegetables such as cucumbers. This was a lot for such a price. For sure I'll come back here. It will especially be at lunch. Definitely have been wanting to try here for quite some time and finally had the opp to go with an old friend of mine. We were a party of two seated immediately on a Wednesday night. It was incredibly packed so that was a good sign the food had to be amazing. One thing I wasn't a fan of is just how small the place is - if you're weary of Covid, this is not the place for you to go. You can be on a date and still feel as if you're at a group setting because the tables are that close. The sushi - delicious. Any of the rolls are a good option and you can't go wrong. The crab Rangoon was great, I'm told (it was all gone before they asked it I wanted a bite) and everyone raved about their ramen choices. I had the Tanton Sen with fried chicken and absolutely loved it. A bit spicy for this old man, but delicious nonetheless. Make a reservation if you don't want to wait. I would definitely go back next time we're in Chicago. The one negative was paying the bill. You had to go online and do some app nonsense, but one of our millennial daughters handled it. To be honest I'm not even sure why this place receives such high reviews! A friend and I were looking for a sushi spot and saw this place on yelp and decided to try it because of the so called "GREAT" reviews but this place DID NOT LIVE UP TO THE REVIEWS, sad to say.. We got there around 8ish and upon arrival it was surprising to see how small this place actually was, but the decor was simple and cute. The hostess seemed confused on we to sit us, which was weird to me because it was physically like 6 to 8 tables so I didn't think it was that hard to place someone. However she and our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked to switch to a bigger (not next to a larger group) table. After they went back and forth with each other they finally agreed to sit us there. Now when we finally received our seats, our waitress greater us and then it became a race to see how fast she can get us out the restaurant. Everything seemed rushed! I get it, the restaurant closes at 10:00pm on yelp but I believe it said 9:30pm on the door, they maybe assumed we would stay there all night but No... My friend ordered a hot green tea which she complained tasted watered down. Funny, how can it be watered down if it's tea? But she claimed the flavor wasn't strong and I can understand that since she is an avid tea drinker. She had the Miso soup, the Sweet Potato Maki and the Spider Maki. I just had some water which came with a slice of cucumber in it and the Miso soup, the Spider Maki and the Kamikaze. The Miso Soup had Wakame, Soft Tofu and Scallions. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The Sweet Potato Maki had Sweet Potato, Avocado, Kamypo, Scallions, Tempura Crunch, Wasabi Mayo (but we did not get it) and Kabayaki sauce. This was DEFINITELY DELICIOUS!! I wish I had more. The Kamikaze had Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Crab Stick, Tempura Coating and Kabayaki Sauce. We were Not a fan of this. It could have been so much better. I think it's was the Temura! It was not crispy! It tasted like something that had been fried but was left sitting out so it became Soggy! It was not good and I could not finish it. The Spider Maki had Soft Shell Crab, Masago, Cucumber, Avocado (which some pieces were browned) Kabayaki, Spicy Mayo, Tempura Crunch. Now I have had Spider Maki before but this one was disgusting. I think they pre-fried the soft shell crab and just left it out because some pieces were hard and some soft and soggy! But I dissected it and the inside of the crab was pretty good! I believe they should have just used that! They claim everything is fresh but why was my avocado brown? I eat a lot of avocado and it doesn't brown that fast (from the kitchen to the table) I was not a fan of this one! Disgusting Now when trying new sushi place I try to go more with cooked foods just because your dealing with seafood and I didn't feel like getting sick from experimenting with raw ones! Let's just say I'm happy I got home when I did bc I got sick.. I will spare you the details but I was in the bathroom all night and my friend got sick as well but not as bad as me! We both agreed that the food was the culprit. We both agreed that we would not be back.. as I type this I am still sick! I can always count on Sen Sushi for consistently great sushi. I moved to a suburb that doesn't have good sushi options and luckily I still work in Oak Park. So I order from Sen Sushi and pick it up while heading home. Their sushi and entrees are always really good. I love uni, amaebi and hotate nigiri and Sen Sushi is one of the few restaurant I know of that carries all of these options and are also good quality. I've never had a negative experience with them. As you can see from the picture, I ordered 4 pieces of nigiri and a couple of rolls; the spicy tuna roll was interesting, may have been spiced with jalapeño peppers and/or sriracha. It was very good. The maki roll with hamachi had its own flavor and I also liked it a lot. The nigiri was good; not exceptional but good. The fish (sake, hamachi and Suzuki) was tasty but a bit dry. Sen Sushi Bar has their take-out process down like a well-oiled machine!!! We stopped by during all the construction happening on Oak Park Ave and the process was seamless. It could have been really confusing on where to park your car while you ran in but the signs were so helpful. They also have a note on their website about the designated parking spot so you don't forget! We ordered online and our order was ready exactly on time. They had all of their other to-go orders nicely lined up on the counter right when you walked in. Way to go team!Everyone is so welcoming here and were all wearing masks properly. We kept it simple and ordered a few spicy salmon rolls, the crispy salmon and the Alaskan maki. The spicy salmon rolls are our go-to because they are always so fresh tasting. The crispy one and the Alaskan one were new for us and we enjoyed them. I really like the crispy salmon texture and of course we ordered extra chipotle mayo on the side. We would order all of these again. I've been to a lot of sushi places and one thing that really sticks out for me from Sen Sushi Bar is the quality. A truly unique and genuine sushi joint. If you are sushi lover, this is a place to visit. The signature rolls are large and very tasty. All the food on their menu was great. Every roll includes a large amount of seafood, unlike some places where you mostly get rice. The meats were very fresh and sliced to perfection. They also offers some very delicious and fresh sashimi. What a gem in this area. It's a place to get good sushi and snacks, but necessarily to hang out, since you feel like you need to leave for others to be able to sit down. Great sushi place! Very small and they don't take reservations. On a Friday night we got one of the last seats and it quickly became a 1 hour wait. Ambiance is 10/10 the tiny bar with wooden accents is lovely. This feels silly to bring up but they have the cutest serving plates- different styles for all the rolls it makes your service even more exciting. We got the spicy tuna which was the perfect amount of heat. We also got the crunchy salmon skin maki which I didn't love but my boyfriend really liked. They have a great cocktail menu with lots of sake options. We had the plum sake which was sweet and refreshing. They also have great desserts. Perfect for a date night or an intimate dinner. For the quality I think its a good deal! We spent about $40 per person which is what I would expect from a sushi restaurant in oak park. read more

Seeking a bite following post-Halloween madness, we decided to try out a new place for sushi upon Nichole C's insistence. We'd been to Sushi House and Sagano Sushi, so Sen was next on the list. It was the furthest from home, which is why it took me 4 years before coming here. The inside is small but minimalist and decorated tastefully. We got seated and quickly received service; they had plenty of Japanese beers available, including Kirin, Sapporo, and Asahi, in addition to lots of premium sakes. An order of miso soup ($2.50) came with wakame (seaweed), soft tofu and scallions which tasted great on a chilly night. The nigiri and makimono were priced fairly, about average considering the area. Their selection was superior to other places, that definitely works in their favor. We got an order of spicy salmon (6pc for $7) that had cucumber, masago, and zippy mayo. The rainbow maki (8pc for $12) was the standard California roll topped with tuna, salmon, red snapper, and yellowtail. It was plated nicely and the quality of fish was great. Our one specialty roll choice was the 'green turtle' (8pc for $12). It came with shrimp tempura, kampyo and cream cheese, topped with shrimp and kabayaki sauce. It wasn't the best "premium" maki I've ever had, though it was flavorful and unique. Bread = 4 Circuses = 4 Service was prompt and the ambiance was pleasant.
