Fong's Kitchen helped me out when my original dinner plans down the road didn't work out. It was nearing closing time, but they said it was still fine to order. There were a couple tables with dine-in customers, but not too busy. The staff were very friendly and gave me plenty of time to decide on my order. They even had plastic laminated menus with photos of their entrees. I've been to plenty of Chinese restaurants, but I popped in here unexpectedly so I had to figure out what I had a taste for. Probably the best Chinese take out in the area. Everything is fresh and flavorful. I change up my order frequently, but the one thing I always make sure to get is the chicken fried rice. It's honestly the best I've had. Not greasy, large chunks of chicken, great taste. Like I always do when I travel, I consult Yelp and sort by distance to find local restaurants that are highly rated and within walking distance. Fong's Kitchen did not disappoint. I ordered the lunch Beef and Mixed Vegetables (L5) at the counter, and my order was ready within 10 minutes. As you can see from the picture, this is a substantial lunch for $10.25! I'm visiting from out of town - from no place fancy and definitely not from a place with the best Asian food. I ordered takeout (Singapore Noodles and Pork pot stickers) via DoorDash. The food arrived fine (they provided silverware, an assortment of Asian sauce packets, and 1 fortune cookie, but no chop sticks.) However, the food just wasn't very good. I was so hopeful based on the recent reviews that this place had decent Chinese. What I expected: Singapore Noodles: a good amount of curry and enough that adds a nice golden yellow color to the noodles. A mixture of BBQ pork, shrimp, green onions, regular onions, carrots and scrambled egg Potstickers: wonton wrapping with seasoned pork filling, either just steamed or steamed and then fried on the bottom, a dipping sauce with soy sauce, a little rice wine vinegar, maybe sesame oil, and maybe garlic and ginger What I received: Singapore Noodles: some curry, but definitely. It enough to provide a consistent color to the noodles. A mixture of the scrambled eggs and vegetables I expected but also sliced green and red bell pepper. The BBQ pork didn't look that great and didn't have much flavor and the shrimp were the tiny shrimp, but were fine. Potstickers: nicely flavored pork mixture wrapped in a very thick dough, steamed, and fried. Served with a very strong vinegar dipping sauce. We come here pretty often and the food is usually solid, so no issues there. But just wanted to share a heads-up about the lunch special timing. My boyfriend and I arrived around 2:55pm, just a few minutes before their 3pm cutoff for lunch specials. The place was empty, and we placed our order by 2:58pm. As we were ordering, the lady at the register was friendly and even asked her coworker what time it was. He responded, "3pm." We paid, but something felt off, so we asked how much we were charged for the lunch special. The guy said double-checked and also said we might've been charged $1 more because their "system automatically puts in regular pricing at 3pm." So we ended up paying $14.45 instead of the usual $11.45. I pointed out that it was barely 3pm at that moment, and we had clearly ordered before the cutoff, but he just repeated that "the system is like that." It honestly felt like a small lie or, at best, a weak excuse. If it were truly automatic, the woman at the counter wouldn't have had to ask the time. It just didn't add up. We let it go, but it left a bad taste. The food is good and will might be back, but just a heads-up, if you're aiming for the lunch special, don't cut it close. Get your order in well before 3pm, or you might get charged full price even if you're technically on time. read more

My husband and I ordered here on our first in Chicago from Baltimore. We chose it because of the reviews. We ordered an orange chicken dinner, shrimp w broccoli (garlic sauce) and an order of shrimp fried rice. The food arrived quickly and hot. We received a free order of crab rangoon because of our order being $25+. In total, we paid $40 total with delivery. There was $3 in tax and a $5 delivery fee. Steep. The rice was a 4 out of 10. I've had worse. Seems like just white rice and soy sauce. Not fried. The shrimp are so small, I swear they were snatched from their mother! BABY!! Overall, not that tasty. The orange chicken is DELICIOUS. The best I've ever had. Honestly, it is the only thing saving this experience. The shrimp w broccoli did not come with the garlic sauce I subbed so, I did not eat it. I am not a fan of white sauce. The crab rangoon was stuffed nicely but too sweet and did not come with the dipping sauce. The orange chicken dinner came with a soggy egg roll sitting on top of hot rice. Overall, I feel that I wasted $40. read more

The service was great, pick up for takeout. The food was nice and hot. I tried their chicken noddle soup, sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef. Everything tasted nice and fresh. I asked they do the Mongolian beef spicy and let me tell you they delivered. The sweet and sour chicken had the sauce on the side, which was great so it won't get soggy. The orange chicken was great, not to spicy. All came with side of steam rice, with the exception of the chicken noddle soup. I never had to wait longer than 15 minutes for my food which is a big bonus considering that is how long it takes me to drive to this amazing restaurant. They also have an amazing lunch special deal which includes any entree of your choose and it comes with 2 egg rolls and chicken/ veggie fried rice. I kept hearing great reviews about this place. The menu is extensive. I had a Szechuan fish, super light and tender in wonderful sauce. It is easy to screw up fish and it was delightful. Then had beef chow fun (thick fried noodle. That was just what I was looking for, great flavor. I tried the Thai milk tea and was not crazy about it, but by the time I drank it all, it was okay as it dissipated any heat on my tongue from these great dishes. I ate there and I did not see any rooster chili sauce on table, may be due to COVID, but that would have been appreciated. I can't wait to try their tofu, vegetable and soups. I was passing through the area saw the sign. I ordered the Buddhist special which included tofu and steamed rice. It was delicious. The small was more than enough. I also got the avocado smoothie with tapioca balls. It was also delicious, apparently a favorite of the server, Maggie. The dining area has room for about 15 people, and I ate my dinner there. I got the chance to listen to Maggie take phone orders and serve customers. She is an absolute delight, enjoying her job and interactions with customers. She also knows the menu very well is a specialist with their smoothie offering. In fact, I'm actually ordering a second smoothie because another customer recommended it - the Taro smoothie, whatever that is. I do not think you will be disappointed with your meal here. Our flight was cancelled so we ended up staying at the Hilton at O'Hare airport. Needless to say we were tired and hungry and did not want some crummy hotel food. We found Fong's through Grubhub and decided to give it a shot. Everything was delicious and some of the best takeout I've ever had. The Mongolian beef was a 9/10, the Orange Chicken was a 9/10, the Sesame Chicken was a 8.5/10 and the Crab Rangoons were a 10/10. The portion sizes were very generous for both the small and large sizes and each entree came with a generous side of rice. The only thing I wish is that Fong's was available in Boston where we live. Food was pretty tasty. We ordered garlic beef, orange chicken, pork and vegetables, orange chicken, singapore noodles, hot and sour soup and salt and pepper pork. The best by far was the salt and pepper pork. The seasoning was spot on and the pork wasn't dried out. The soup was terrible. It wasn't balance and was entirely too sour. Someone was definitely heavy-handed with the vinegar. There seemed to be an endless amount of the noodles and the meat and the other dishes were tender and not too oily. Three stars because although we ordered quite a bit of food we did not receive one entree (orange chicken) and received fried rice instead. I checked my e-mail receipt several times and everything was correct when we ordered it. I even had my cash ready (and I never have cash!) and was proud that I had a $5 tip for the deliverer. When he showed up he handed me another receipt and said it was 3 bucks more compared to my on-line receipt. Not fair for the driver, me thinks. I only ordered orange chicken for my friend and he never got it. Oh well, fried rice was good though. I might give Fong's another shot, but think I'm done with delivery here. Fast, fresh, Fong's! It was hard for me to choose how many stars I want to give this place. I work near here and it's the only Chinese place that's I was able to find so for that it already gets kudos points. For being fast and always fresh, definitely 5 stars. The food is always super hot so that's how I know they made it fresh. Whether it's to go or if you eat there, they are fairly fast. Not so fast that you have to wonder if they are just warning things up in a microwave. They recently renovated and the decor and seating is much nicer than before. For the taste of the food I would give 3-5 stars lol. It really depends on what you order on what day. Shrimp fried rice 5 stars. Most of soups 4 stars. The stir fry stuff 3 stars. Many of their stir fry dishes, especially those on the lunch specials menu seem to have the same sauce. So for this I want to give 3 stars. Also it's doesn't taste the same each time. Maybe they have different chefs depending on the day. However, it's much better and cheaper than the place in the outlet mall and better than Panda Express (the other 2 Chinese places I found the area). I definitely recommend the Singapore noodles, fried rice, and their hot & sour, chicken noodle, and wonton soup. Everything else is decent but not super authentic nor memorable. Overall if you are craving Chinese food in this area that is near the Fashion Outlets and DES Convention Center, you should try Fong's. read more

The service was good and fast. The food was okay. The egg rolls were pretty tasteless (which was super disappointing). The beef and broccoli was tasty, as was the chicken lo mein. The sweet and sour chicken was standard. One thing...when I ordered (a lot of food), it made me eligible for a free large orange chicken - per a promotion on their website, which I only happened to see while on the phone. The woman on the phone didn't mention this until I did. I understand she is not obligated to, but it would have been nice if she had said something. The orange chicken was meh. Overall, I'll probably return because there are slim pickings in the neighborhood for Chinese food. As I said, they were very fast and nice. read more

Tonight I decided to give Fong's a try and to my surprise, I was not disappointed. I tried the chicken and broccoli and an order of egg rolls. The absolute best Chinese food anywhere. Never had a bad dish here. My favorites are the Chicken with Mixed Vegetables, Kung Pao Chicken, and the Salt & Pepper Shrimp.
