Your Local Locksmith is an internet shell company that farms customers out to unlicensed sketchy freelancers. While searching for a locksmith near me, "Your Local Locksmith" popped up on google maps as a locksmith that is close to me in Manhattan West. I went to their website and called the number listed on the site. I explained to the person on the phone that I needed a non-urgent cylinder change on my apartment front door and that I would like a quote. The person simply took my number and told me a "technician" would call me and give me the quote. Speaking to the "technician" on the phone, I explained that it was not an emergency and I would just like a quote. The technician insisted on coming over immediately and told me that that the service call is $40 and that he would provide a quote after seeing the problem. 40 mins later, the technician came by car and quickly identified that it was, indeed, a simple cylinder change. Without giving me a price for the job, he started replacing the cylinder in the door lock that I had already dissembled. The entire job took 5 mins. I was surprised by the $300 cost he charged after the 5 min job he had performed and that he only accepts cash or Venmo. I felt I had no choice but to pay and did so - he left quickly. Shortly after he left, I called and asked him for an itemized receipt, which he said he would provide as soon as he got back in the car. 2.5 hours, 4 text message reminders and 2 phone calls later (one of them he hung up on me), he finally sent over a picture of a handwritten note, without indicating the cylinder model number, company name or his license number - all of which I had specifically asked for. Interestingly, when I had asked him to provide this information, he first asked me which company did I contact and then simply ignored me. I searched for the technician on the NYS license database - no matching result. I called "Your Local Locksmith" for an explanation for them sending a seemingly unlicensed technician, who made up prices on the spot without informing the customer, who took only took cash and who wouldn't provide a proper company receipt. The representatives at "Your Local Locksmith" could not provide an explaination, told me that they did not have any physical location, but that a supervisor would call me back. Of course, no one did. I subsequently called "Your Local Locksmith" 5 more times over the next 2 days to speak to a supervisor. No one called me back and I was hung up by the rep on the 5th time. Major red flags - 1) shell company with no actual physical address (even though 3 were listed on the website), the only method of contact (a phone number) is directed to a call center 2) they use freelancers (potentially unlicensed individuals) 3) no price list - freelancer makes up prices and only accepts cash 4) no management, no customer service/support and no accountability read more

Your local locksmith is a godsend! The lock of my apartment door has been broken for ages (doesn't automatically lock, things were misaligned, knob was loose) and I tried to fix things myself, but that thing was so old and worn out that I decided to just spend the money to switch it out. After looking around for a decent locksmith, I went with this place and I don't regret it at all. Zack was super responsive and once he quoted me a price, came to install my new lock the day of. It was a tricky installation because my doors are old and made out of metal (had to drill into the door as well), but Zack was extremely patient and helpful. He even fixed the misaligned deadbolt on top of my bottom lock. The pricing is extremely reasonable as well! Other locksmiths quoted me outrageous prices; one even tried to charge me $400 just to replace my bottom lock! Most of these other locksmiths are ridiculous. Repeat customer! I recalled the prompt and professional service I received last time and called this place for a friend in need of emergency service.
