    Ahi sashimi

I had really good service. I went alone and was treated so well. The price was reasonable, and the ahi sashimi was the best I have had. I will be going again. Very quiet and personal.

Called in a reservation several days prior to going to Yoshitsune. The restaurant is located in the Park Shore Waikiki on the Makai end of Kapahulu Avenue. There is validated valet parking or you can park across the street at the zoo. The restaurant is located towards the rear of the hotel lobby. You enter through a noren (fabric curtain), and the first thing you see is the sushi bar. The sushi chef yells out "irasshaimase". There was no host, one of the servers greeted and escorted us to our reserved table. There were about 4 other tables with guests seated (with more tables near entrance in front of the sushi bar). The menu and dining utensils were already on the table. Our server came over and asked if we wanted anything to drink, so we requested water, green tea and BIL ordered a Coke. We ordered the sweet miso eggplant and edamame for starters. I ordered the Yoshitsune Bento with broiled Atlantic Salmon. Wifey ordered the Shizuka Gozen Bento with misoyaki butterfish and my son got the 8 piece Maguro Nigiri sushi. Our server brought us a complimentary house-made tofu appetizer. It was very unique, soft and like threads of noodles. The sweet miso eggplant was delicious! Our server said that the house-made tofu, sweet miso eggplant and the misoyaki butterfish are their specialties. Our server brought pickled vegetables and miso soup, followed by our entrees. My lunch was beautifully plated in a black lacquered partitioned bento box with Maguro sashimi, assorted tempura, vegetable nimono, broiled salmon and white rice. The entire bento was very flavorful and delicious! Both servers spoke with a Japanese accent were so friendly. In fact, besides the mainland tourists sitting adjacent to us, the diners at the other tables all spoke Japanese. They must be regulars, because the two servers appeared to know them. Our meals came with ice cream, so I ordered green tea ice cream. A little bitter, a little sweet, it was a perfect way to end our meal. The same server that escorted us to our table walked us to the restaurant's entry and held open the noren and thanked us for dining with them. We paid for our valet ticket ($5) at the hotel's front desk and gave the valet our ticket. It was a very enjoyable lunch, probably one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants on Oahu. We will definitely be back to try their Kamameshi dishes and their tiered Chirashi plate. Highly recommend that you try this restaurant and be sure to call in a reservation.

First off, me and my family had an amazing time at this restaurant. The homemade silken tofu is so soft and has a great taste, the mackerel was crispy and savory, and the shrimp tempura was perfectly crispy with generous amounts of dipping sauce. The food was very authentic and felt like I was back in Japan! I would 100% recommend this place to anyone craving real, homemade food!

Lunch at Yoshitsune while staying at Park Shore during my birthday staycation in Waikiki. Authentic menu, restaurant and service. This spot is tucked inside the hotel lobby so I had not actually heard of it before. Seated immediately and pointed towards the lunch special, which looked amazing, however I was with my daughter and she does not eat mushrooms and likes to share so we looked over the menu and picked out a couple of items. Everything was fresh and delicious. The tempura was some of the best I had ever had. The sashimi was also a really nice assortment and plentiful. While the menu has items priced fairly high, we were able to have a very affordable lunch! Beverages were available including tea, beer and wine, although we just had water after a long morning swim. Great spot!

miso butterfish, chawanmushi, shrimp tempura, broiled mackerel, chazuke

10/10, would recommend! Me and my family have been repeat customers over many years now and always have an amazing experience dining here! The food always tastes like it was made with love and care. The servers and owners are always welcoming and friendly. This time we got the homemade tofu (a must try), chawanmushi, shrimp tempura, tsukimi udon, chazuke, butterfish misoyaki, and the broiled mackerel combo. We felt like we got transported back to Japan. Give this place a try if you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine!

I love this place. It's super traditional, affordable/wide range of prices from "cheap" to "overly expensive" and there's something for every one. They have an extensive menu with everything Japanese! We've tried their nigiri's, chirashi bowl, sukiyaki, miso glazed fish, tempura, udon, omakase. Everything is authentically Japanese. I LOVE their sukiyaki course. It's so good and not too sweet. They used such good beef too. I also go the chirashi bowl. It was so generous! Fresh raw fish, so plentiful. Their miso glazed butterfish is a must if you don't want to go the raw route. And their udon for our toddler was so good. He loved it. The tempura was fried to perfection, my FIL loved it. I love how extensive the menu is, but it's hard to pick bc everything is made so well here! Even the servers are Japanese and barely speaks English. The chefs are super nice too. We had a 1.5 year old toddler who couldn't hold still, so we took turns taking him to the lobby. The chef ran out with a box of hot wheels and let my son choose one. So thoughtful!! We try to come back every time we're in Waikiki. One of our favorite places.

    Chawanmushi

In the middle of Waikiki, where plastic leis, watered-down cocktails, and overpriced fusion dominate the scene, Yoshitsune quietly keeps doing what it's always done: serve honest, traditional Japanese food with zero pretension. The chawanmushi arrives first, warm, delicate, and impossibly smooth. A blank canvas, if you're bold enough to improvise. We were. A scoop of fresh uni, ordered as sashimi, gently placed on top. Silky meets briny. Pure harmony. The fried oysters are crisp and clean, comforting but not heavy. Just the right bite. The sashimi is confident and unadorned--pristine slices, expertly cut, no unnecessary garnish. Just fish, done right. Then the steak hits the table, sizzling and fragrant, still whispering from the heat. Our kids didn't ask questions. They just dug in and didn't stop until the plate was wiped clean. We've returned here again and again over the years. Different trips, different moods, same result. Yoshitsune is tradition that never feels tired. It's not trying to reinvent the wheel. It's just reminding you how good the wheel already was. No flash, no show. Just craft, care, and food that keeps calling you back, even in the heart of Waikiki.

This restaurant is truly exceptional. The food, ambiance, and service were all top-notch.

    Two tiered chirashi

Incredibly delicious traditional Japanese restaurant inside the Park Shore Waikiki Hotel. I never would've thought to go here but we got a recommendation from a family friend. We called ahead to make a reservation for a table of 8. When we arrived around 6, the restaurant was half full. I ordered the two tier chirashi and it was so so so good. The fish was fresh and paired so great with the sushi rice. The sushi rice had the perfect amount of rice vinegar and overall seasoning. Staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a bit on the older side and somewhat dark. We'll be coming back to try other dishes and to order the same thing!

Food was very tasty and with clear attention to detail (eg Tofu was not store bought). Service was prompt and friendly but not overwhelming. The ambience is low key and feels like a small shop in Japan. I recommend it. You must enter through the lobby of Park Shore hotel.

    Sashimi plate.

This was one of the best meals I have ever had. The food and service were phenomenal. We were a party of 6 with different experiences with Japanese food but we all loved the dishes we ordered. My husband and I had the sashimi 5 course. It was unbelievable. Our guests also had the 5 course meals and loved them. All of the servers were spectacular. The only thing lacking was ambiance. I encourage you to take a chance and enjoy superb food and gracious hospitality.

I also don't understand how Yelp lists this place as a "good for kids". It's not. There wasn't a kids' menu and the dishes were not kid-palate friendly (other than maybe the basic California style hand roll). For example, the fried tofu had shredded ginger on top that permeated the dish and the karaage had a very mild (but present!) note of spice that reminded me a bit of buffalo sauce. Our waiter didn't even give us a heads up or point us in the direction of any dishes to consider for the kids (surely we must not be the only family who has brought kids to this restaurant). Lastly, I understand that the tempura brownie is popular but after tasting the "tempura" on the tofu I'm sure the brownie is just the star that shines through. The "tempura" on the tofu was gummy and not the authentic Japanese tempura we are used to (my husband, who is part Japanese, said to me "What is this?! Cornstarch?"). This is probably a great restaurant for drinks and hanging out with some adult friends but the rolls and appetizers were just not to our tastes. We were also sat outside when the restaurant was near empty inside and out (we went around 4PM) and it was a hot day (though the AC wasn't particularly cool enough for my preference inside either).

Here's how this love affair started...I discovered Domo when a friend invited me for some sushi and sips at her place. I was amazed at the beautiful platter of sushi that accompanied our sake and wine. My friends are the best hosts! I devoured the bombs, nigiris and rolls (in between sips!). Everything was simply delicious! Fast forward a few months, I order a couple sushi sets to host a poolside, golden-hour birthday get together at my other friend's home. We also ordered a California roll for my friend's aunt who is not really a sushi fan. She delighted in several pieces and even enjoyed the nigiri from the garlic set. Total convert! After enjoying the platters and sets, we had to try the bentos and bowls. This time it's just us and the pup at the park. The bentos provide a great variety and comes with miso soup. The hubby really likes the shrimp tempura with ahi and salmon nigiri and ahi poke. It's a steal at less than $20. I'm a bowl girl myself and like the spicy tempura. The tempura is cooked crisp yet tender. The spicy ahi poke combined with the creamy crab salad and the crunchy ocean salad delights all my tastes buds. It's truly an adventure in finding the perfect bite--and there are so many in this bowl! I also love the seared salmon bowl. It is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I add the fried onions for some texture. You know a place is top-notch when you can feel confident that anything off their menu will satisfy your cravings. Because this is a Yelp review, here are some helpful tips. For sushi platters, pre-order. The online system is simple to use. Service is fast and efficient if you're just walking in for a quick bite or to grab something to go. Parking has always been easy for us to find in the small lot in the complex where Domo is located. It's right next to Assagio's Kahala. But if you're worried about parking, I suggest ordering in advance and then just picking up. This works great during peak dining hours. If you want fresh, delicious sushi that is reasonably priced be like us and visit Domo Café. You will probably also be like us and want to go back to try more.
