Yorkside Pizza & Restaurant is a Greek-style pizzeria that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in January 1977. It was founded by the Koutroumanis family, which includes brothers George, Tony and Greg. The family immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1958. Almost immediately after getting settled, the various members of the family began working in the restaurant business in some sort of capacity. By the late 1960s, the Koutroumanis family had opened West Haven Pizza Palace in West Haven and Broadway Pizza in New Haven. Following the success of the family's pizzerias, they opened Yorkside Pizza & Restaurant on York Street, just around the corner from Broadway Pizza. Yorkside's signature Greek-style pan pizzas quickly became popular with Yale University students as well as patrons from the neighboring performance venue Toad's Place. A number of celebrities have also visited the pizzeria over the years, including late night TV host Stephen Colbert in 2023. Aside from the signature pizzas, the menu also includes seafood dishes, pasta dishes, steakhouse entrees, classic Greek & Italian staples, sandwiches, salads, soups, and various appetizers. While the Koutroumanis' other pizzerias eventually closed, Yorkside is still going strong. Today the establishment is run by George, his wife Nota, and their family. I recently stopped at Yorkside Pizza for dinner prior to attending a show at Toad's Place. Although I have lived in the area my whole life, and I've walked by Yorkside more times than I can count, this was actually my first visit. While I am partial to New Haven-style apizza, Greek-style pizza has been growing on me recently. My server seated me at a booth and I begin to scroll through the extensive menu. I ended up ordering two smalls: a "Four Cheese Pizza" (mozzarella, feta, ricotta & provolone cheese) and a "Mediterranean" (mozzarella, crab, clams, anchovies & tuna). Yorkside's pizzas are made from scratch everyday, and you can tell. These pies had so much flavor and the crust was light, crispy and flaky. I washed everything down with a can of New England Brewing's "Sea Hag" IPA. I ended up taking half of the pies home for my family to sample. If you're planning on attending a show at Toad's Place, I highly recommend stopping at Yorkside either before or after the show! read more

If you have eaten at a restaurant 50 times over the last 7 years and more if one goes back decades. how can you not be a fan? This is a very friendly outstanding place on York Street that is comfortable, A survivor from the 1970's I would return and return just to make sure this continues for the decades to come. I can't imagine it not being in this location as a place to think back to visits from the past . Our most popular items are pizza and the large greek salad. That doesn't mean the greek specialities are in second place-- it is just that we have become so happy with that salad as we can't get anything close to it in other places. It is also healthy with all the different elements in the salad. That hasn't stopped us from getting sandwiches including chicken salad and pasta dinners as well. We even go for the hamburger with fries on occasion-- making sure to also enjoy a vanilla milkshake. So pleases try this restaurant. With more and more chains and "new" foods the older familiar places sometimes get overlooked. This one should not . With the long term staff and the qualitf food today this restaurant continues to make itself a required visit with every trip to New Haven. We were there for Yale University parent weekend and decided to drop in. It looks like an old style pub from the inside. Pizza boxes were piled high, so that told us something. However, the menu had a variety of selections. My husband ordered the hamburger on the hoagie which he loved and I had the tuna salad sandwich with french fries plenty of food enough to share one plate, but both dishes very different and very good. Throughout the experience, you could smell the pizza and you could see the line of people picking up to go great customer service and a very friendly atmosphere. Who wants Greek? If you're up for it, then this is probably the place to go. It took a while to decide but their lemon-chicken-orzo soup was pretty great and a perfect starter to my gyro platter (which was basically a Gyro with sides, not an actual "platter" you eat with a fork which is what I was expecting). The Gyro was excellent with thick, crispy meat! Their menu is quite extensive with pizza, sandwiches, seafood, greek, and other items that is sure to have something, even for the pickiest of eaters. In touring Yale with my son I became super hungry and we knew we were far from the famous "New Haven Pizza" but we saw Yorkside out the back door of the library and decided to give it a try. Criminally underrated pizza in New Haven, CT If its not the big 4 in New Haven (Pepe's, Sally's, Zupparddis, Modern) then its like nobody knows them and it's such a shame because this place is tremendous. On a Food Basis: This restaraunt makes a greek style pan pizza and it is phenominal! Cooked to perfection excellent fluffy crust with the perfect amount of char. Sauce is fairly sweet but complimented with the crushed red pepper i put on my pizza was the perfect ying and yang flavor wise. Pepperoni was charred just right. These guys know what they are doing! On a service basis: THIS PLACE was fantastic very friendly service, We were greeted immediately as we entered the restaraunt once we sat down and ordered, our food arrived quick. We stopped in here for a cheese slice and sausage slice while walking around the area.. We really liked this Greek style pizza. The sauce and cheese ratio were perfect and the sauce had a great taste. We ordered inside and sat outside at one of the 2 tables. The inside has plenty of seating and has a retro casual atmosphere. My nephew lives in New Haven, CT which is 60 miles from where we live in New York and we take about ten trips a year to visit him and his family. Every time I visit my nephew I have him buy us a large sausage and onion pizza from Yorkside. This pizza is so delicious and it reminds me of the Detroit Style pizza. It is absolutely delectable. The walls are adorned with pictures of many classes of Yale, famous people who dined there and even a statue of their family dog (?) Very cute!! Pizza was standard - nice & crunchy base that could be folded up and had. We had the 4 cheese one and thought the cheese was generous. It felt slightly on the saltier side (just as some people mentioned here) but my palette quickly adjusted to the taste. I did burn the roof of my mouth though with the first bite lol, it was HOT!! We've always been curious to try Yorkside Pizza, and thinking it was a Tuesday night we thought it would be a good time to visit - little did we know there was a concert at Toad's Place, so the place was hopping! We only waited for a little bit before getting a seat, and the staff really did a commendable job of handling the volume that they had. Definitely a well-oiled machine here! We just did a cheese pizza and chocolate milkshake, and it really hit the spot! Definitely one of the best Greek style pizzas I've had, and it was a nice change for the typical apizza style in the area. The restaurant had a classic pizza parlor feel in here that we liked! Ate here after a concert at Toads place and loved it so much that we came back for lunch and it was even better. The stuffed clams were delicious, and the Greek salad was so fresh (and huge). We split a small #6 clam pizza as well. The place itself is classic, and a nice relaxing ambiance. A good place to take your family too. We will be back! read more

Always a 5 out of 5 experience! I have lost count of the times I've came here, since as far back as I can remember. Everyone always makes us feel like family. The food is beyond delicious and has remained amazing throughout the years. The restaurant is always clean. Oh and if you come you can't leave without their house dressing. Pizza is super greasy. I've come here so many times and it's pretty good but you will feel like crap. The mozzarella sticks are my favorite thing to get. The pizza is sub par to me. I decided to take my daughter out for a mommy-daughter date tonight. We went to an old Yale neighborhood, favorite. It was actually very good! We got a small chef salad, a 10 piece buffalo wings and a medium pizza with bacon and half sausage and mushroom. Everything was quite delicious! The meat in the chef salad tasted very fresh and so we're all of the veggies with the exception of a couple pieces of tomatoes. My daughter gave the buffalo wings, a seal of approval! They were fried nice and crispy without me having to ask, always a plus! I do, however, prefer my wings to be a little smaller. Jumbo wings just aren't my thing. The pizza reminded me of deep dish pizza. It came hot and fresh out of the oven and was quite tasty. Although I prefer brick oven pizza, this was a pleasant change! The service was quick but thorough. This place was pretty busy. Lots of families, dining in and enjoying each other's company. Overall, a great experience, and we will return. read more

Most people who come to New Haven to get pizza come to Modern, Pepe's, or maybe even Bar.....but me? I come to Yorkside Pizza because I like that thicker crust with piles of sauce on it. I came to Yorkside last Saturday night with 2 friends and we were seated right away. Our waitress was super awesome throughout our stay and I've always been a big fan the establishment in general. It has plenty of seating, a large menu, and it's location gets a big thumbs up from me. I ended up splitting a large cheese pizza with a friend of mine and I absolutely loved it. The pizza here is closer to a Greek style of pizza with a little thicker of crust and tons of tasty sauce. The food didn't take too long to come out and when it did it was delicious. If you are looking for pizza along the lines of Modern, Pepe's, or Bar then this might not be the place for you. But for me, this is my New Haven pizza place and no matter what people say, I'll keep returning here in the future. read more
