Zois Pizza is a Greek-style pizzeria that opened in Seymour, Connecticut in 1970. It was founded by Greek immigrant Zois Tzepos. Born and raised in Eptahori, Greece, Tzepos immigrated to Connecticut in the 1950s with his family. He opened his namesake pizzeria in downtown Seymour in 1970. The name "Zois" is the Greek male equivalent of the female given name "Zoey", but it is also the Greek word for "life". Zois Pizza became well-known for their Greek-style pizza which is cooked in pans. Tzepos' brother Nick also operated pizzerias throughout Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley. The last pizzeria he ran before his retirement was Oxford Pizza Palace, which is currently operated by his son John. Zois Pizza is and has always been a family-run establishment. Zois' son Jim Tzepos has been running the day to day operations since the early 2000s, but Zois still pops in from time to time to make some pies. In addition to the signature Greek-style pan pies, the menu also consists of salads, appetizers, grinders, trays and calzones. I recently stopped in for dinner at Zois Pizza for the first time. I often go to downtown Seymour to see cult film screenings at the Strand Theater. I usually stop at an area restaurant beforehand to grab dinner, so I decided to try out Zois' on my most recent outing. I looked over the menu and decided to order three small pies so I could sample a few different kinds. The three that I ordered were the "Greek" (cheese pizza topped w/ fresh tomato, spinach, feta, garlic & oregano), the "Greek Godfather" (cheese pizza topped w/ sausage & roasted red peppers), and the "Roula Special" (cheese pizza topped w/ chicken, bacon, broccoli & garlic). Although I'm partial to New Haven-style apizza, these Greek-style pan pies were very good. They were full of flavor and had a nice and light, airy crust. At one point, my server checked on me and asked which of the three were my favorite. I told her that I enjoyed all three, but it was the Roula Special that really hit the spot. She responded, "OMG! That's my pizza! I'm Roula!" It turns out that she was Roula Tzepos: Zois' granddaughter! To drink, I enjoyed some cans of New England Brewing's "Fuzzy Baby Ducks" and "Sea Hag" IPAs. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience at Zois'. I even had some leftovers to bring home for my family to try. Went here for a takeout pizza. I have to say I was very impressed. One of the best Greek style pizzas that I have tasted. Really good. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. It's a pretty good sized place, very casual. Parking is OK but looks like it can become tricky at busier times. Prices are typical. Menu is just pizza, grinders, and calzones - no entrees. The food is absolutely fabulous, I love all their food. They are always consistent, hot, tasteful, & fresh, they load on the cheese which is my favorite part of any pizza, or calazone, they use top of the line cheese, because I know my cheese lol. I normally do takeout buy on the few occasions I went to eat in the restaurant the service has been topnotch, I can be demanding because I do throw some beers back, & order alot of food, sometimes after I already ate, few hours later I want more food, the waitresses have always been sweet, efficient, & attentive. If they were open til 2am my friends & I would close the place . Thank goodness they are very affordable as well because this is the only place I order from in Seymour, & truthfully anywhere, I'm a very picky obnoxious person, I am what I am, there's no changing me, old school like Zois. read more

Zois' pizza is simply amazing. It's Greek pizza at it's best. The crust is crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, and it's light and airy too. The sauce is on point, slightly sweet yet it has the right amount of spices. Moreover, the amount of motz is wonderful, and the sausage has a perfect tang to it. I'm sorry for those that say this is great pizza but sadly it's not. Stopped in tonight 2.25.20 and tried them for the first time. Unfortunately their pizza was just meh. Just ok. Service was ok. They didn't seem to care that you were there to enjoy the food. Hospitality was subpar. Maybe they're having an off night. Every place has some. The sauce was kind of sweet. Reminded us of elementary school cafeteria pizza. My best friend & his wife who live 3 minutes up the street felt the same when we all ate it together. The place was clean. Parking was a bit of an issue. Small parking lot and some street parking. The food was cooked fresh but lacking flavor. A close friend told me that the pizza was delicious here last night. Delivery was fast and correct. Food was hot and well prepared. Salad and pizza was gone in no time. It was a big hit with the kids . Also needed a gluten free pie which passed the test. What kind of person doesn't like pizza? A weirDOUGH... Yes, I really walk around knowing that bad joke. But, Zois pizza palace isn't as bad as that joke. It's actually good! Especially if you have a food allergy that is lactose intolerant. I ordered a custom "Mad Marko" and it was good. Very good! I went with non-dairy cheese, and hold the bacon. Even when you add and subtract ingredients the taste is there. Not many places can say that. It's like they made sure you still enjoyed your food even though one's body can't handle certain ingredients. You have to love that! I do recommend trying, especially if you are allergic to lactose cheese. They still honor curbside and are very pleasant and patient over the phone when you place your order. read more

*This review was actually from April 2021, but I never posted it to yelp...only their Facebook page* I wanted to share my experience last night as I had the pleasure of trying some of their new vegan options: Side salad with vegan feta cheese: Let me tell you that I could not tell the cheese was vegan. I never eat vegan cheese just straight up because it usually tastes like plastic or crayons. Not this! It tasted exactly like regular feta! I loved it so much that I will definitely get it again. My only critique was the dressing. I'd like to see other vegan dressings options as when the salad is to-go...the oil and vinegarette separate and it's hard to get the emulsification back. Other than that 5/5 would definitely recommend! Vegan cheese pizza with vegan meatballs and broccoli: The new vegan cheese melts, you guys!! The other cheese was good...don't get me wrong, but it didn't melt so occasionally you would get a hard piece of cheese. The new cheese is so much better and so delicious!! As for the meatballs...it was good, but tastes a lot like the vegan sausage. Not that it's a bad thing as their vegan sausage is really great, but I was hoping for more of a meatball experience. It's crumbles as opposed to sliced meatballs or whole meatballs. Would love to see them find a better meatball like alternative, but still a delicious pizza as always. 4/5 would recommend! I have never been disappointed at Zois. Always fresh and always delicious! The fiance and I are even going to use them for catering our upcoming wedding. This is my family's go-to place for delivery in Seymour. The crust is always crispy on the outside with a nice soft center, and the sauce is great. Our favorite is the bacon and onion. The onions are always thin, which cook really well without getting burned. The bacon is crispy and not too fatty, which can be a problem at some establishments. I have a deadly dairy allergy. I got my sandwich and it was absolutely smothered in cheese. As I further inspected it I noticed two paper thin slices of the flabbiest chicken I ever saw. When I called to complain they were horribly disrespectful To my wife. So I called myself and received same treatment from girl answering the phone. The only thing consistent here is the rudeness. The owner took phone and boldly claimed he made the sandwich and said the portion control keeps their prices down-(which are not cheap). Horrible food, horrible service. Alll I wanted was an apology. We would get take-out from here a couple of years ago, but found the pizza crust to be overdone & the toppings always slipped right off. Recently we decided to give them another chance because it's so close by. Upon ordering my Husband specifically asked they they not cook the pizza as long and the girl on the phone immediately asked, "So, light baked?" The pizza was MUCH better light baked and we've been back twice since. I also appreciate that their pizza isn't paper thin.
