    California Dreamin

My family and I went to Pizzaro's on a Saturday night at 6:00. Before heading there, I thought it might be crowded but that didn't stop us from going and when we arrived, there was only one other family there. I was pleasantly surprised! We were greeted by the waitress who was very friendly and she told us to sit wherever we'd like. For appetizers, we ordered Greek salad, cheesy garlic bread and bruschetta, all of which were phenomenal. The bruschetta were especially fresh and delicious. For entrees, my mom and I ordered the california dreamin pizza, absolutely amazing. The crust was crisp without being burnt and the toppings were plentiful. We loved it. We also ordered chicken parmigiana, which was also delicious and flavorful. Overall, we loved Pizzaro's and will absolutely be back!!

Their site says that they have 15 taps featuring local craft beers, but once we sat, we were immediately told they did not have a number of items on the menu. Very few of the beers were local, so I settled on a Yeungling, which was unfortunately flat, sour, and warm. I returned it, and our server was happy to get something else. He did not take it off the bill however which was disappointing. Our server let us know that he was a very experienced bartender, but every time a drink was served, he grabbed it by the mouth of the glass. Gross. Also, several times, the server would ask one person at the table if they'd like another and run away before seeing if everyone at the table was OK. The pizza was the saving grace, and just the way I like it... Thin & Crispy (as stated on the Staff's uniforms). Cooked in a cast iron skillet, it was a unique, and welcome twist. I went for the clam casino special, which was very good. I would definitely get it again if available. Maybe with a squeeze of lemon next time. My wife got the chicken cutlet with hot peppers which was also very good, but totally overloaded with garlic. Wedge salad was good, but could have used a little more dressing. Maybe they just had an off night. I will try them again, but my experience and other recent reviews seems to trend that the staff lacks leadership and needs a significant amount of training. If they could get the management and service right, this place could unlock a ton of potential.

Enjoyed that....my pizza tasted like garlic and it overpowered the rest of the pizza. I got the Klarides Village pizza and I wish I got something else. My husband's wedge salad was good and his clam casino pie wasn't bad. Burger presented nicely but lacked any seasoning and the cheese fries were tasty. I feel this place can be better, service be more consistent. Beer can be updated and fresh. Came for a music event and the lighting and stage are nice. Will come back to try pizza again, maybe just a sauce and cheese.

Zois Pizza is a Greek-style pizzeria that opened in Seymour, Connecticut in 1970. It was founded by…read moreGreek immigrant Zois Tzepos. Born and raised in Eptahori, Greece, Tzepos immigrated to Connecticut in the 1950s with his family. He opened his namesake pizzeria in downtown Seymour in 1970. The name "Zois" is the Greek male equivalent of the female given name "Zoey", but it is also the Greek word for "life". Zois Pizza became well-known for their Greek-style pizza which is cooked in pans. Tzepos' brother Nick also operated pizzerias throughout Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley. The last pizzeria he ran before his retirement was Oxford Pizza Palace, which is currently operated by his son John. Zois Pizza is and has always been a family-run establishment. Zois' son Jim Tzepos has been running the day to day operations since the early 2000s, but Zois still pops in from time to time to make some pies. In addition to the signature Greek-style pan pies, the menu also consists of salads, appetizers, grinders, trays and calzones. I recently stopped in for dinner at Zois Pizza for the first time. I often go to downtown Seymour to see cult film screenings at the Strand Theater. I usually stop at an area restaurant beforehand to grab dinner, so I decided to try out Zois' on my most recent outing. I looked over the menu and decided to order three small pies so I could sample a few different kinds. The three that I ordered were the "Greek" (cheese pizza topped w/ fresh tomato, spinach, feta, garlic & oregano), the "Greek Godfather" (cheese pizza topped w/ sausage & roasted red peppers), and the "Roula Special" (cheese pizza topped w/ chicken, bacon, broccoli & garlic). Although I'm partial to New Haven-style apizza, these Greek-style pan pies were very good. They were full of flavor and had a nice and light, airy crust. At one point, my server checked on me and asked which of the three were my favorite. I told her that I enjoyed all three, but it was the Roula Special that really hit the spot. She responded, "OMG! That's my pizza! I'm Roula!" It turns out that she was Roula Tzepos: Zois' granddaughter! To drink, I enjoyed some cans of New England Brewing's "Fuzzy Baby Ducks" and "Sea Hag" IPAs. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience at Zois'. I even had some leftovers to bring home for my family to try. If you're looking for a good place to grab dinner in downtown Seymour, then head to Zois'!

The sauce was nice, but it could have used a bit more seasoning especially oregano, and a bit of pecorino-romano cheese for a little tang, that would have elevated this pie substantially. As for the crust, it was very good, and crispy too. Anyway, what I loved the most about this pizza was the copious amount of motz, and the toppings... There were humongo chunks of sausage and healthy helpings of pepperoni to die for!.... Toppings for weeks!... as a matter of fact; the pie was a toppings mess in the best way possible... generously so. I have to state this was one of the better apizza I had in the valley. So, with that said, if you like 1st Street then you'll love it's sister location Dayton Street Apizza in New Haven. Dayton Street Apizza has been slept on for quite sometime and is definitely a top six pizza destination in New Haven. So, check that place out as well if you haven't already, you'll be glad you did.
