My wife and I went to Yolk before Fiddler on the roof last Sunday. The reviews were good and we were there around 12:30 and the show started at 2:00. They were busy and we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. My wife ordered sweet apple crepes and I had the Chili. Server was polite and attentive. We did not have to wait long for the food. The Chili was ok, not bad not great but still fine. My wife crepes were horrible, the apple slices were so hard that they had to be cut with a knife, the crept so dry they just crumbled apart, my wife had to add some cream that she used from her coffee to give some type of taste. I have come here occasionally for breakfast and no complaints. I recently have been ordering salad to go and for people who work in the building you get a discount (show badge/ask when ordering). Usually no complaints and food comes out quick. Most recent takeout order (Citrus Salad) did not include dressing. I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast here. Service was was friendly but I felt a bit rushed through my meal. I a bit of a corned beef hash snob and I was not disappointed with mine here.. It was not your typical corned beef hash. It was more "deconstructed" Looking at it when it first arrived at my table I had my doubts as it did not look like your traditional corned beef hash. I've been to this yolk twice and it's pretty good for brunch. I like the location and how the wait isn't very long (both time I've only had to wait a few minutes). This is one of several locations around the city. If you're starving this is a good place to go to because portions are huge! Most recently we had the chicken n waffles and the red velvet french toast. Both were good but so filling and so rich that I felt kinda gross after eating all that food. Between 2 people this was a lot of food. The red velvet french toast comes with 3 cakes but there is no way you can eat more than 1 because it's just so sweet and rich, but delicious. Previously, I've tried their Santa Fe frittata which is slightly spicy and delicious, as well as the Nutella crepes which is also great! Service is good. I'm just really disappointed with my recent experience here - my husband and I really like some of the other Yolk locations, so I was looking forward to a morning omelette. Unfortunately, the person who took my order was curt and had none of the accommodating warmth I've experienced at other Yolks. I asked for a California omelette without cheese, as I have a dairy allergy, and requested to sub turkey sausage for the cheese. This is apparently a big no-no here (although I've done it many times at other locations), and of course my omelette came absolutely smothered in cheese. So I ended paying almost $20 for an omelette that I could eat maybe half off, after scraping off the non-contaminated bits the best I could. Lesson learned: the Eastman Egg Company is a mere 2 min-walk away upstairs and half the price. read more

Yum! I've been here two times and neither has disappointed. This most recent time, I ordered the All-Star combo and upgraded to the cinnamon roll french toast. I always have a hard time choosing between savory or sweet at breakfast/brunch, so this was right up my alley. The cinnamon roll french toast was SO good. The eggs, bacon, and sausage were all standard, but everything together was a good mix of savory and sweet. I felt like this location isn't as crazy as some of the other ones. Both times I came here, there was barely a wait, which was nice. I originally went to the Yolk in Lincoln Park and didn't like it much, but thanks to this location, I'd be open to trying some of the other locations again. read more

Food is incredible, honestly one of my favorite breakfast places in Chicago. It's a little pricey, but it's so delicious that I can be okay with splurging once in a while. Normally I would give this place 5 stars, but when I picked up my food today, my order of potatoes were missing. Totally fine, it happens! However, when I called to ask for a refund or if I could come get it, no one ever apologized for the inconvenience. Neither on the phone nor in person. Both girls I talked to simply said "no problem". But it was a problem for me, because my food became cold and I felt disrespected and like my time didn't matter. I'll order again from here, and I doubt this will happen again, but I think the Front end staff should be trained to be more apologetic when a mistake is made. You definitely pay a premium price for what you get here, so the service should be premium. I remember having a cold waitress here in the past as well (but I've also had a really nice one). Super cute place! It was busy but easy to tune the surroundings out if you sit by the window! My food came very quick and was enough to feed 2! I got the skillet and it had waaayyyy to much cheese but they didn't skimp on any ingredient! Nice flavor and very very filling! I also got a latte which was tiny for the price and just okay (they flavor taste very artificial, I could be a bit of a coffee snob)! A little pricy but you get plenty of food for the money! Just an overall bad experience. Put my name on the waitlist online ahead of time and when I get there they tell me it's going to be 30 mins. What was the point of the waitlist?? We did have a party of 8 so they split us into 2 tables which was no big deal but one table got their food way earlier than the other. Food was just ok really- kind of cold. The service sucked however. Our server was no where to be found when we needed him and the hostess seemed so overwhelmed which is no fault of her own. I would not recommend. read more

I've found that many of the menu items feature the same ingredients in different configurations. Wait staff is okay - they do just enough to get by. The ambiance is what you would expect of a mid-tier, casual American breakfast place: screaming kids, syrup, tables packed closely together. Because this location is so big, there's fortunately no wait time for a table. I'd give this location 3.5 stars if that were possible. Have you ever walked into a place, had a great meal, and then realize you can't really love the diner your in? I want to rate this place higher because the food is good. The ambiance is really cozy for a brunch restaurant in the Loop, and I've had multiple items on their menu that are really good. What makes me rate lower is the staff...and usually that's not something I rate too heavily on; however, there are 2 or 3 people who work at Yolk downtown that are just blatantly rude and completely unprofessional that it just gives me a bad taste in my mouth every time I leave Yolk. When I go somewhere, I'm pretty low maintenance. I don't have any allergies or meal restrictions. I don't try to make any changes to menu items. I don't require a lot of attention at all when I'm dining anywhere. Bring me a drink and the food promptly and I'm all good. So, it always baffles me when I go somewhere and I'm being completely pleasant and respectful but the staff I'm talking with is just being flat out rude and disrespectful. I've had that happen multiple times with waiters at Yolk and with the Hostess. So, yes, food is good. Nice place overall, but if you're someone who needs good staff in order to enjoy an experience...then this place is definitely not for you. read more

The name is Yolk but they have the best chicken and waffle I have ever had. The bacon crumbles and fabulous sausage gravy take it over the top. And the huge fried chicken breast is seasoned and cooked to tender perfection. Their coffee blend is Metropolis cranked up to 11, and it's so nice to have a quiet spot to sit , away from all the solicitation that happens in the train station's food court, while waiting for a train. This location in Northwest Station sucks because it's near nothing and parking blows every day of the week, even on Sundays. Food is fine. They serve no liquor which is lame.
