I've been to Yokozuna a few times now, and there is always something about the place that just seems a little off to me. For one, the servers are not very accommodating. This past visit I ordered sweet potato fries with my sushi roll, and my waiter refused to bring them out to me at the same time, and insisted the fries would be soggy if he waited to bring them out with my sushi. Plus, most all of the rolls have imitation crab in them, which in my opinion doesn't belong in high quality sushi. However, I would say that their half priced rolls at happy hour are a much better deal, and I might go to Yokuzuna again just for the half priced rolls. read more

Yokozuna has always been on my shortlist for go-to sushi options. The restaurant has beautiful decor, huge windows and a fun atmosphere for date nights or dining with family and friends. I love their weekday happy hour sushi with many of their popular rolls offered at a discounted rate! Any time I visit I can always rely on the meesh mash (basically a giant sushi bowl), the pupu platter, and the blue dome, hot mess and geisha's despise rolls. More importantly, Yokozuna's pork belly ramen is STILL my favorite ramen in town! Mouthwatering sliced roasted pork belly, fresh veggies and the tastiest broth that packs a spicy punch - what's not to love?? I've been back a couple of times since the last review, and still love it! I decided to branch out of my comfort zone a bit and tried some of the carpaccio, which our waitress informed me isn't served anywhere else in Tulsa. So, everyone else's loss! The blackened ahi carpaccio blew my mind; it's so tasty I thought I was going to have a moment in the restaurant like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally. Also tried the Pretty In Pink roll, which felt like dessert. Inside is salmon, cream cheese, and mango. Each roll is topped with a blueberry and it's all drizzled in some kind of pineapple rum sauce. I'd never had a roll that tasted sweet like this, but it was a really delicious, refreshing bit on a hot summer day. read more

Okay, so we ordered the miso soup was pretty amazing except the tofu had an odd taste usually you can't even taste the tofu but it was very noticeable. The spring rolls, with which the rice paper wrapping was hard.. so either they didn't let it sit in the water long enough or they weren't fresh and has been sitting exposed to air. We also got the Cho Cho Ramen, pretty disappointed. The broth tasted nothing like ramen but plain chicken broth with hardly and seasoning. I've been to many different sushi places in many different cities and Yokozuna ranks right up there with the best of them! A lot of their rolls were spicy, which I really enjoyed, but there are plenty of regular rolls to choose from as well. Not to mention that the blackened ahi tuna sashimi was awesome! Their Sweet Evil sauce was also excellent (I think it came with the Geisha roll). All in all, I'll definitely go back while in the Tulsa area! And feel free to trust the chefs and order the Chef's Choice, it was the best roll I had that night and I'm not even sure what all was in it!?! Heard a lot about this place, so decided to head there before opera. Nice decor and friendly service. We ordered tempura fried cauliflower (very good), roasted pork egg rolls (not so good) and sumo fried rolls (not are favorite) which made for an overall so-so experience. First off I was excited to come here because of the good reviews. However, my experience was none short of a disappointment. We waited for an hour and 30 min!!! We watched 3 parties who arrived after us, get seated before we did. After waiting for about 45 minutes I proceeded to the hostess stand to ask how much longer it would be because we had been waiting for awhile. She informed me we were indeed next. She then turned around and mockingly spoke to a bus boy. As I watched her head turning finger waving gestures speaking to him -we all just watched and said, "yep, she's talking about us." An hour and a half later we were seated to a table in the center of the back room. We passed the party of 2 seated comfortably in a roomy booth; while our party of 3 was seated in the middle of the room. We sat there and the waiter greeted us. I told him we waited for an hour and a half and were very hungry. He replied, "well hope it's worth the wait!" (Paraphrasing of course) but it was something of the sorts. We all ordered Sapporo's and a bottle of warm saki. The waiter informed us of how to order the best deal. Which was nice of him in an otherwise somber attitude he carried. I ordered the Route 66 roll (8 pieces)and the asparagus roll (6 pieces). It was decent. Not the best but it was decent. We carried on our conversation as it was very loud. Which is expected for a Saturday night. The manager walked by and overheard our conversation and chimed in on what we were talking about. He was friendly and asked how everything was. I said everything was fine and that we waited for an hour and a half to be seated. The manager just gave me this look and he replied, "Well then, you've definitely have paid your dues!" Then he walked away to a table that broke a glass. If you're wanting quality sushi and a much more trendier atmosphere as well as friendlier staff: I strongly suggest passing this place and heading to In The Raw. I will not be back. read more

My office took us to Yokozuna for lunch today. Normally, we've had good service, but not always quick at lunch. Our group chooses Yokozuna at least every 4-6 weeks for lunch, and we've enjoyed it. That was not the case today. I'm not someone who usually write poor reviews of establishments, because everyone has off days. This is different. Today's service was awful! We had a long wait to receive our orders (so long that a group the same size that was seated after us received their food before we'd placed our order), but that's not the issue here. They made an error on my order. Usually, this isn't a big deal. They correct the order, and you get your food. That is not what happened here. This time the server argued with me that the tofu was indeed chicken, after I explained the fish sauce on the tofu made me ill. He brought the exact same dish back to me in a to-go container, and said he was pretty sure it was chicken. He asked if I wanted him to place a new order, and told me he was pretty sure the chicken would look the same as the tofu if he put in a new order. For the second time, I told him that it didn't matter what the chicken looked like as long as it was chicken and not tofu with the fish sauce. The sauce makes me ill. My group has now been here over an hour for lunch. We arrived at 11:30, and by 1:00 I still hadn't received my food. I asked how much longer it would be before my corrected order was ready, and he said it would be a few more minutes. My boss and another colleague offered to stay, so the rest of us could make it back to the office before the rain began. After another 10 minutes, they came back to the office with my order. was relieved chicken pad thai, was clearly chicken and not tofu, just as I asked. My relief was short-lived. My chicken pad thai had been soaked in the very fish sauce I told them made me ill. It was inedible. Everyone has bad days, and everyone makes mistakes from time to time. When it happens, just fix it. I tried to be kind and polite about it, and I was met with denials, excuses, and a meal that was intentionally rendered inedible. My colleagues and I will not be returning. This used to be one of my go-to restaurants for out-of-town visitors, lunch meetings, and birthdays, but I can't in good conscience recommend or take guests to an establishment that treats their customers this way. read more

Yokozuna is a hip, tasty restaurant in Downtown Tulsa. The waiters are always great, the drinks are delish and it's always hoppin'. Unfortunately, a lot of the sushi is fried, and it's not as great as competitors. I recommend the squid salad, the Catalina wine mixer with sparkling wine and the Rising Sun Roll. This is a great place for sushi beginners. I am not a huge sushi fan, but the rising sun roll has been my first step into the sushi world. It is probably not as authentic as it could be with its cream cheese and fried shrimp... But it's delicious so I don't have a problem with it. The drinks are a little weak for my liking. And a little overpriced. Don't order the big fishbowl if you're trying to get a buzz on because it is mainly comprised of juice. read more

One of my absolute favorites of Tulsa. Love the food. Love the environment. Love it. The sushi is always delicious and fresh and there are specials every night of the week. There is a separate bar area but I wouldn't recommend eating at the bar since it seems to take longer to get your order. The staff is always knowledge and courteous. I love Yokozuna! The sushi is so fresh. This is going to sound crazy and maybe I just didn't know where to go, but I am from Dallas and wasn't totally in love with a sushi place til Yoko because of this freshness. It tasted so different and had fluffy rice. There are a lot of rolls that I think a lot of people would enjoy- even people who think they don't like sushi. PLUS there are other options. This is a life saver as my bff and bf don't eat sushi. The other options are good too! I love their pad thai. I prefer the downtown location because of the awesome view of the skyline and fun layout. Came here for the sushi. Had opentable reservation and was greeted by a happy and energetic hostess. Waitress was helpful and provided good info/insight about the menu. Had a couple of rolls including the "chef's choice". Was pretty good. Friendly staff and good food. Perhaps I've been to too many sushi joints though. I say this because although everything was good, nothing seemed amazingly excellent. I'd actually go 3.5 stars but not an option here. The prices were fair and they have a HH. Yokozuna is truly one of a kind. I have not been to another Asian-Fusion restaurant quite like it. The staff is amazing. I want to say you won't find a staff quite like it anywhere else, but while that might now be true, it's still valid. The atmosphere here is top notch. From the moment you walk in to the moment you pay your bill and leave, you know that you are going to be taken care of and will leave with a full stomach and I'm sure a want to come back again. We have a creative menu, from drinks you haven't had anywhere else to tasteful appetizers, wholesome entrees, creative sushi that the sushi chefs put a lot of effort into, to even a dessert menu with options you haven't tried before, like a banana split made with coconut ice cream and delicious cashew brittle crumbles. Everything about this place is unique and enjoyable. I promise that it is worth your time going, and I promise you'll have a good time, whether it be for a date night, work luncheon, birthday dinner, bachelorette party, family dinner, you name it and Yokozuna will make it happen. Sushi in landlocked Tulsa? Yes! I've lived in the NYC and Boston areas and this place competes just fine. I order the salmon sashimi at each place to test the freshness and richness of the fish. Is there a Clorox/chlorine flavor? Not here, not tonight! Meaty and relatively fresh, it was. We ordered the Blue Dome, Hot Mess, and Nutty Thai (something) rolls. All good, spicy, and delicious. I had two different cocktails. Both were very nice. If I lived here, I'd make it a semi-regular stop. The combination of flavors in the coconut shrimp, mango and avocado was spectacular. The shrimp, peanut butter and jalapeño was a delightful sweet and spicy pleasure. As much as I would prefer to give more than a 2 star review because I've eaten here before, I'm struggling to come up with reasons why it's deserved and based on this experience they only deserve 1 STAR, BUT 2 IT IS.... I'll start with I eat sushi A LOT! I travel A LOT! I try sushi restaurants in each city I travel to and try to be fair in my reviews. I've eaten here before and remember it being pretty good. Not great, but good. I ordered take-out tonight, and my experience was less than expected and absolutely less than the last time, I assure you. Tonight I placed a take-out order after 8 pm, it's sushi, it really shouldn't matter. I picked up my order within the allotted 15-20 time frame, as advised by the person who took my order. I ordered a California roll, a Rising Sun roll and edamame. I like that the Cali Roll had the option of sesame seeds or masago on the roll. I couldn't decide, so let them do it for me (I got masago... score!). When I walked in, I went to the bar, my order was ready right away. The bartender was pleasant to deal with. Now to the food.... I was very disappointed this time. The California roll was very bland, not that there is a ton of flavor in a Cali roll typically, but it has some flavor. Not this time. Also, it fell completely apart and I was happy that a fork and spoon were included in the bag, because it was needed to eat this "roll". ((It HAS been Monday all day.... *sigh*)) Eh, I'll skip that next time... The Rising Sun roll is described as "Coconut shrimp, imitation crab, cream cheese, mango and avocado, rolled in soy paper and served with pineapple rum sauce". This roll at least stayed together, kinda. I was able to pick it up with chopsticks, but no piece ever made it to my mouth without me putting my hand under it to keep it from falling in my lap or rushing to cram it in my mouth before it fell. This roll is wrapped on the outside in soy paper, so I expected that it would stay together, but.... The flavor was decent if you like cream cheese, because that is ALL you could taste, and despite seeing the shrimp in the roll, I'm still doubting that it actually existed. The shrimp tempura (oh wait, wasn't it suppose to be coconut shrimp??) was mostly breading with a microscopic piece of shrimp visible in each piece. This roll was not made as described on the menu. If coconut shrimp was used, it was most certainly not detectable in the flavors and an absolute disappointment. There was no mango or avocado on or with my roll The menu says it's served with a pineapple rum sauce, which was not provided with my order. Just overall disappointing and again. These are some of my favorite flavors which is why I ordered this roll. Edamame... oh edamame, you'd think that this wouldn't be lame and flavorless, but guess again.... No salt or seasoning of any kind...and cold, cold, cold when I got it. I could have used it to chill my drink. I really was hopeful, but after this experience I doubt that I go back. :( read more

I have ate at Yokozuna a couple of times... because I could not get to my usual sushi house. With that being said, their service there is less than what should be expected. The waiters are snobby and they are too busy in the back area. The food the first time I ate their was not all it was hyped up to be. The second time, I actually found a roll I enjoyed.
