Gluten Free review - This Yokozuna used to be one of my favorite places to eat. They had a dedicated GF fryer (not any more) so I and other GFers had more options and could even order appetizers. Their GF sweet potato fries were and I'm sure still are DELICIOUS. (I just cannot have them now.) Many of their sushi rolls can be made GF. They've changed their menu and no longer provide a separate gluten free menu so a lot of questions need to be asked. I appreciate the fact that they use clean knives and mats to ensure there is no cross contamination. I usually order the Golden Driller roll and change the shrimp from tempura to regular shrimp. They also have a tasty GF sweet chili sauce - don't skip that whatever you do! Definitely give it a try if you are craving sushi! read more

I have always loved this place, especially the happy hour. However, this time, unfortunately the sushi rolls were just OK. They just didn't taste the same as they used to. As well as I got the steamed dumplings and the first ones that came out were cold and even the second ones they brought out or just a little bit warm, but they were not cooked how they used to be cooked when I'd get them steamed and they just were not great. Yokozuna is one of our family favorite stops. Our table server did let me know that they can downsize the bites for the Hot Mess. Which I did not know.... That could be done. We have been here several times now and there is a reason why this place is so popular. The wait staff are great and very attentive to your needs. They have a dining room big enough for individuals or large groups, as well as a private dining area for parties as well. This time we tried the miso soup and it is absolutely amazing with fresh sliced shiitake mushrooms and green onions on top. The star of the show is the sushi, with so many options and variations to choose from. They have traditional, Oklahoma style, Sashimi and Nigiri. They are rolled right there at the station in the dining area. They're quick, accurate and very fresh with so much to love. She can whip you up a really good sushi from scratch and the ones on the menu are great too. Super fast with her chef skills and excellent patron. First time today, the food was good. The sushi was mid. We tried the samurai roll and also the dill roll. I would love to learn when happy hour is so I can go eat the sushi during happy hour for full price, not sure if the sushi is really worth it. Family ate here for a birthday dinner. I ordered the gyoza and spring rolls. Both were very disappointing. The gyoza barely had any filling and what was there was pretty flavorless and an odd texture. The spring rolls had a decent amount of filling but it seemed to be the same flavorless filling as the gyoza - just more of it. The dipping sauce was (some kind of chili sauce) was basically soy sauce with extremely strong, mouth-burning chilies. The rest of the table had sushi and a couple of bowls. They said their food was passable but nothing that will bring us back to eat there. Service was ok - did have to wait kind of long for a napkin/utensil set-up. Food got a little cold during the wait. So many other good places offering much better Chinese dishes (at more reasonable prices) in the city - would not recommend this one. read more

Second time here this week. I enjoy the swift service and the delicious food. The Pad Thai with the tofu (squeezed in lime) was phenomenal! The sweet potato fries with the wasabi mayo and chili soy, and a nice glass of rose - was a perfect starter to wind down from life! We came back and had the Thai Green Curry, and that was oh-Kay. We were attended to by several people, it was very nice to experience a team effort! Great job wait staff!. The food experience was terrific. We ordered the Bye-Bye Summer Sushi Special. It was an incredible explosion of delicious flavors. Next up, we found ourselves elbows deep in a "chef's special" sashimi platter that exceeded our wildest expectations. Seared tuna, salmon, octopus, albacore with a centerpiece of needle-diameter shredded carrots. All were champions in their field, although the octopus turned out to be more trouble than it was worth. By now my husband had developed a bit of a "racehorse" approach to dinner and decided to murder another round of hamachi (yellowtail) sashimi. He appeared dizzy but blissful. First of all, the restaurant itself is stunning with modern decor and a beautifully designed menu. The staff is super friendly and quick, and the selection of sushi and entrees was amazing! I had the Hot Mess and Route 66 rolls, which were both delicious and so beautifully prepared! The food was very fresh, and honestly I haven't had sushi since I moved here from Florida about a year ago and this set the bar very high. My friends and family love Yokozuna. They have excellent sushi and appetizers. My daughter loves the California roll and one of my favorite rolls is the Golden Driller. They are great for indoor seating or outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. The sangria is pretty good and I'm not usually a sangria fan. Yokozuna's wait staff is speedy and knowledgeable. This was our first time to try this location. I like the modern decor. It has a nice clean look. We had a couple of sushi rolls and edamame for appetizers. I didn't try the California roll because my granddaughter was enjoying it so much, I let her have my share. The spider roll was nice and crispy. They served the sushi with white ginger, which is more expensive than pink. When I see white ginger, I know the restaurant cares about quality. I ordered Tofu Pad Thai. It was different than most Pad Thai. It didn't have peanut sauce and it was crisper. I have to say that I prefer the usual peanut sauce, but I can see an advantage to leaving it off. The dish is lower in calories and you can see all the colorful foods in it. It has a much better presentation without the peanut sauce. The peanut sauce not only covers up the other ingredients making this colorful dish a big brown glob of noodles, but it also overwhelms the various flavors. I enjoyed focusing on the various and subtle flavors and the crispy texture. I don't usually order tofu, but I wanted to see how they prepare tofu. (I'm a curious diner). It was delicious. They fried it tender crisp on the outside. Very pleasing texture and flavor. My granddaughter had been craving noodles and enjoyed her pork belly ramen. No complaints from her. Dan ordered the ahi poke. He said it was good but complained that the fish hadn't been trimmed well enough. My daughter ordered fish tacos. I tasted one. I did not love the flavor of the fish. Fish is unpredictable. You can't count on 2 fish, even of the same species, tasting exactly the same. It came with tempura fried sweet potatoes. I did love that. Something I really like about the menu is that instead of a separate lunch menu, they have lunch and dinner prices beside each item. I assume you can choose smaller portions no matter what time of day it is. I don't like leftovers. I'd rather be able to order what I can eat and go to restaurants more often. The service was excellent, bathrooms were clean, and there is ample parking. They have installed plexiglass between the booths for Covid protection. Yokozuna not only has Happy Hour everyday but also Sapporo and Sake Sunday. On Sunday 5 to close, draft Sapporo's are $3 and large sake carafes are $5. It was a fun lunch. Two weeks ago I was one of two couples that had reservations at the Yale location on a Saturday night at 5:45 for a pre concert meal. We ordered drinks and a couple apps and then dinner, well the drinks and the apps came but an hour later dinner still wasn't out. We flagged down the waitress and she said that they were slammed and that it would be another 20 minutes. We had to go to the concert and told her to close out the bill which she did. I also talked to the manager Mike and explained that we had to leave without dinner. He was very sorry and comped our drinks and apps and then gave each couple a "Make it Right" dinner for two card. So even though we weren't able to have dinner the management took care of the problem the best and really the only way they could. So last night, Monday, we went and had our "Make it Right" dinner. As always the quality of fish was terrific, the sushi presentation was very nice, and the service was great. I eat at sugar fish a lot in LA as well sushi restaurants around the country. We had just had sushi a couple of days ago so we opted to share a couple of buns and then I got the chicken pad thai and hubs got the general tso chicken but subbed beef. The buns were really delicious and if we lived in town we might come back on a Monday after 5 when they are $1 and make a whole meal out of them. Happy hour at Yokozuna has become a biweekly ritual for me. It's such a deal on delicious sushi. They have select rolls that are half off from 2-5pm everyday. My favorites are the Golden Driller, Route 66, New York, and Hot Mess rolls. I get over 30 pieces of sushi for about $20. What a deal! And I've come here so much that I've got to know a waiter named Ivan personally. Ivan takes very good care of me & my clan every time we come in. He definitely deserves the tip he receives.
