During yesterday's weekly trip to BA, I landed at Sumo Sushi. TLDR: Bland sushi, wonderful people and decent prices. First let me preface that the sushi was NOT bad... it just wasn't good. At least not to me. I saw plenty of Yelp and Google reviews reflecting a 4 star level, so that was what decided me. But more on that in a second. First, the place is small. Seating for maybe 20 in a pinch. The people are out of this world friendly, and my server was absolutely great. In order to get a broad sample, I went with the 3 roll lunch special. I cross checked the menu to see what I was getting, which was the Tootsy Maki, Miami Heat and Angry Tuna rolls. I didn't pay as close attention as I should have ,as it turned out the Miami Heat and Angry Tuna rolls are pretty much the same thing. Be that as it may, my order arrived in pretty short order and to be honest, it looked outstanding. And that's where the wheels flew off the bus, at least for me. All three rolls were bland and almost devoid of flavor. At one point I started deconstructing a couple of pieces to see what was going on, and there was no flavor of any substance in any of the elements. The crab salad filler was warm and had hardly any flavor at all. The tempura didn't add anything to the rolls except making them harder to eat. Even the spicy mayo was bland. Looking back, I'm not totally convinced that I didn't get two if the Miami Heat rolls, because they seemed pretty much the same. All that said, I'm sure their food is generally regarded as good by other people, given their aforementioned ratings, but for me, it completely missed the mark. Again, I'm not saying it was bad, but if I lined up all the sushi places I've been to, Sumo would not be in the top 10. Total damages before tip was $16 and change.

We have been trying to get to this restaurant for a long time.. finally we made a trek to stop and eat. Waaaaatdya know?!! It hit the spot for the sushi and hibachi chicken and vegetables with fried rice. This was an enjoyable stop. It is a small spot, few tables and chairs... so get here early. Check out the drink specials, which they have sign to greet you.. we didn't get any special adult beverages. I ordered the Shaggy Dog Roll.. excellent layers of full-filling flavor. I'm not really into cream cheese rolls. This one didn't disappoint. My husband ordered the hibachi chicken lunch option. My son had fried rice. There were plentiful sized portions too. They didn't go skim on anything. We will be back.

The restaurant is small but the service was great and the food was yummy! I ordered the scallops hibachi dinner and my son ordered the chicken hibachi dinner. Both had great flavor and there was plenty for lunch the next day! We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

Stopped in for dinner on a Sunday evening, and got seated right away. It's a tiny little place inside with very limited seating, but lots of to-go orders were being picked up. Our waitress was great. The prices for the quality is really a good value. My sushi was a big portion where most rolls I get elsewhere are 6 pieces, these were 8! The spicy maki combo is a great deal. My husband got general tso's chicken, and it was delicious too.

Appetizers of salads, miso soup and crab wangoons are delish!

Sumo ended up being rather impressing! You walk in and are struck by the size of it, it is a smaller space so seating is limited. They do offer hibachi in the kitchen and sushi out front. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quickly! Prices were reasonable and our server did a wonderful job. To go is offered and would plan to go again in the future. Only marked it down one simply due to not enough seating.

Service was great and the food was delicious. The sushi tasted fresh. Even the batter on the tempura tasted fresh and clean. The dinner salad and miso are so-so, but the sushi rolls we got were amazing. The place itself is kind of small but the food is an excellent price and would be great for a good carryout meal.

Hawaiian Roll, Sunset Hollywood Roll, Spicy Couple roll

We frequent Sumo Sushi & Hibachi as we love Asian food and live in Broken Arrow, OK. Our favorite sushi rolls are the Sunset Hollywood and the Spicy Couple. If you're not into sushi, definitely try their hibachi dinners or the Chicken Yaki Soba. Everything we've ordered has been delicious so you can't really go wrong. We have never been disappointed with the service. I will say that the space is pretty small (only 5 to 6 tables) so this is not a great place for large groups unless you call ahead. We always dine-in but it seems they are always very busy with to-go orders as well.

Dinner date was awesome!!! Quick service, and food prepared fresh. Started with coconut shrimp had a nice crispy crust and sweet dipping sauce. The hibachi NY Strip was so tender and full of flavor, miso soup had nice onion taste and not bland. So much food for the price, love that! Grilled veggies were not over cooked and rice not mushy! Small dining room it got packed soon as we was seated. I know everyone goes to Sho-Gun for hibachi but this has 10x the flavor. I will definitely be back for sushi!!! So many delicious hot and cold options.

Came here for the second time but it wasn't as nice. Got the hibachi w steak and shrimp again, flavor was good but meat was tough. Got i fly sushi and something else and the sushis were meh. What happened? So disappointed this time. Also, they need to mop their floor. It was greasy and slippery and gross

absolutely horrible customer service. The food wasn't even that great, the experience from the front desk woman ruined our evening.

The chef and wait staff friendly and always a pleasure. However, the last take out order was not up to par for what we have always experienced with MoJ. We very frequently order the same thing: Sushi Regular and Shrimp Fried Rice, so this was not like a one-off. My husband said the shrimp was hard and when I plated it, it smelled like rancid oil. My sushi had cloudy salmon roe that I have never seen before, and my husband said the tuna tasted very fishy, and he could not eat it. The surf clam piece was chewy and when fresh, it is not chewy. I wish I had taken pictures but nothing _looked_ bad except for the salmon roe. Aside from the decline in quality, the wait staff is mostly new and not friendly. This will affect the ambience. I'm not concerned about decor. That can change. But with unfriendly staff, I am not inclined to dine in to see what else has changed. One guy was abrupt to my husband during a phone call. He said the guy had "a tone." This is not New York where no one should be offended by locals' rapid-fire conversations. This is Oklahoma where people are supposed to be more polite and patient, especially wait staff. While it may seem that I'm being overly critical, please bear in mind that after 20 years of consistent quality, suddenly we get poor quality and unhappy staff. I don't know if ownership has changed or if the previous owner has turned operations over to someone else, but I cannot give MoJ 5 stars anymore.

When going to Memories of Japan, I would recommend getting the Tulsa Fried Bean Curd appetizer (fried tofu). The soft tofu is coated with a thin layer of batter and is then deep fried. The end product is a crunchy coat and super soft silky tofu inside. This fried tofu dish is very different to any other fried tofu elsewhere and it was delicious. The sauce that came with the dish was bland and lacked flavors. The sushi at Memories of Japan were good. The special rolls, Alaska and Florida roll, were $8.95 each. Let me tell you, I haven't seen specialty rolls this cheap. Of course, there are more expensive rolls on the menu. In terms of sushi, Sushi Hana is better and so is Oishi. I liked the decorations inside the restaurant. Nothing extravagant but they made the place look more oriental. Service was excellent. I would say if you are looking for the best sushi, Memories of Japan is not that place. Go to Sushi Hana for that. If you want good sushi that does not cost you an arm or a leg, then you come to the right place. 4 stars plus an extra star for affordability factor.

I did get the American Honey roll as well which I've had before but unfortunately, I did it as takeout and I think it made it not as good or maybe they just didn't fry it long enough, but it just wasn't as good as it normally is.

The bill could have been under $20 without a hidden fee (possibly credit card fee). What's more amazing about Kofu is it's also on the list of restaurants on cash back apps for additional discounts. Their mushroom soup was only $2 and it tasted delicious. The Kani salad was only $4.50 and also delicious. The tuna & mango roll was large and only $11.50. They initially charged me $12.50 but I got them to lower it to $11.50 since that was the price on the menu. I felt bad for doing it since that roll definitely was worth more than $12.50. For that price, the roll tasted amazing. Now, just to be clear I did not say that it was the best. This restaurant is far from being considered fancy. There are only 9 tables or so in the entire restaurant's lobby. The building looks old and has signs of being worn out. But giving how the food tasted for the cheapest price in Tulsa, I would highly recommend. In fact it's going to be on my list of best Asian restaurants near Tulsa. I will definitely be back. I am hoping they won't update their prices on the menu.
