Wanted to grab a bite on the road before heading to the hotel and this place hit the spot. Was solo dining so skipped the packed hibachi line and went into the open bar for table service. Was helped quickly with a drink and had the veggie tempura to start. Was well cooked veggies but was a thicker batter than I am accustomed to. The chicken and steak had great flavor while the noodles were a nice touch I normally do not see on the plates of other places. Will have to try the sushi next time. What I saw coming out of the kitchen looked tasty.

A long delayed date night saw us at Tokyo Garden in midtown Tulsa. My first adventure to a Japanese restaurant did not disappoint. The onion soup was an excellent appetizer on a cold night. We ordered shrimp Tempura as a shared course. It lived up to the description I had heard of Tempura shrimp made by Alton Brown. It was light, crispy and not at all greasy or gummy. I ordered the Sakura. It included filet mignon and chicken. The steak was very tender as it should be. The chicken was also tender and coated in the best tasting Asian sauce I have ever had on chicken. The noodles were also excellent and I ate all of mine (a rarity for me) The show was quite enjoyable and the atmosphere relaxed and cordial. I do highly recommend Tokyo Garden for a special date night or just a fun meal.

The place was completely packed, the wife and I were seated right away in the sushi bar area since we didn't need the flare from the chefs. If you want a show, make sure to have reservations. The food was really good and the service was excellent. The restaurant was clean and well run.

Love this habachi restaurant! Food is very good and service is fantastic! I ordered the lobster and it was very buttery and delicious! I also recommend the Hawaiian sushi roll! Unfortunately I ate my food so fast I was unable to get a picture :( but I did manage to get a pic of my sons chicken! And the sherbet ice cream at the end of your meal is a huge plus! P.s you must get the mustard sauce!

    Sushi was really good!

I used to really love this restaurant but it's gone down quite a bit. If you go in knowing you're paying for more the experience rather than service then you shouldn't be disappointed. Pros: you get a lot of food, the chef is comical and entertaining and you get a good experience. Very friendly Cons: They appear to be super understaffed, and I think my complaints last night stem from this because all my complaints are related to service. MAKE a reservation!!!!! They were incredibly busy for a week night which led to super slow service. I didn't have a fork so I didn't get to eat my salad until everyone else was done because there was no one around to check on our group since they're so understaffed. There wasn't a hostess for 10 minutes since anyone there was super busy running around. It took 35 min to be seated and then about an hour before it was over. So you're there for a long time which I wouldn't mind if I had service. Ran out of our mixed drinks which took a very long time before we could get a refill. Edamame was very overcooked, unless you like mushy soggy edamame. Which we couldn't even eat and no one ever asked us if everything was good so again my complaints are all related to service.

When I lived in the armpit of Oklahoma otherwise known as Tulsa, I used to go to this place all the time. Now it's just when I'm in the neighborhood every so often. It tends to be more often than I care for, but that's just because I of my horrible experience in Oklahoma. Tokyo Garden was the first place I ever had Hibachi food AND Sushi. Yes, in this ever expanding fish bowl we live in the most luxurious place I had ever been too was Red Lobster. Now this wasn't because I lacked the intelligence to know these places existed, I grew up and still am dirt poor, so that is just my lot in life. Luckily I found Tokyo Garden, and it gave me a bit of extravagance in an otherwise dull existence. The ambiance is very traditionally hibachi, you are seated around a grill where a very skillful chef cooks your food for you. When you first sit you will have the opportunity to order appetizers or Sushi though you really don't need too because there will be plenty of food. You will get a salad and a soup to get started on while the chef gets ready. Remember, this is a dinner and a show, so you should be watching while they are "performing" in order to no disrespect your chef. They will cut the vegetables in ways you wish you could, and so fast. The chef will build a onion volcano for you as well that is magnificent. The flames jump high so be forewarned it is warm! You will get your rice, noodles and vegetables first followed by your protein choice and one or two shrimps if you're lucky. Then finally it is followed by a small scoop of ice cream to calm everything down. The food tastes fresh and delicious. So along with the amazing show makes this worth the cost. I've found that those who don't enjoy it basically have lived a life where they've never been denied joy(in other words, spoiled). If it's boring to you, then you've had too much in life already and should just go eat at McDonald's and call it a night. If you don't like the atmosphere you should re-evaluate your life and learn how to be more cultured. Believe me, it's worth the change in perspective. You will not be disappointed with Tokyo Garden.

Food tastes as bland as it looks. Ordered med rare received fully cooked steak. Salad dressing taste like mayonnaise. Noodles are stuck together. Rice is hard and food is not any good.

The chef and wait staff friendly and always a pleasure. However, the last take out order was not up to par for what we have always experienced with MoJ. We very frequently order the same thing: Sushi Regular and Shrimp Fried Rice, so this was not like a one-off. My husband said the shrimp was hard and when I plated it, it smelled like rancid oil. My sushi had cloudy salmon roe that I have never seen before, and my husband said the tuna tasted very fishy, and he could not eat it. The surf clam piece was chewy and when fresh, it is not chewy. I wish I had taken pictures but nothing _looked_ bad except for the salmon roe. Aside from the decline in quality, the wait staff is mostly new and not friendly. This will affect the ambience. I'm not concerned about decor. That can change. But with unfriendly staff, I am not inclined to dine in to see what else has changed. One guy was abrupt to my husband during a phone call. He said the guy had "a tone." This is not New York where no one should be offended by locals' rapid-fire conversations. This is Oklahoma where people are supposed to be more polite and patient, especially wait staff. While it may seem that I'm being overly critical, please bear in mind that after 20 years of consistent quality, suddenly we get poor quality and unhappy staff. I don't know if ownership has changed or if the previous owner has turned operations over to someone else, but I cannot give MoJ 5 stars anymore.

When going to Memories of Japan, I would recommend getting the Tulsa Fried Bean Curd appetizer (fried tofu). The soft tofu is coated with a thin layer of batter and is then deep fried. The end product is a crunchy coat and super soft silky tofu inside. This fried tofu dish is very different to any other fried tofu elsewhere and it was delicious. The sauce that came with the dish was bland and lacked flavors. The sushi at Memories of Japan were good. The special rolls, Alaska and Florida roll, were $8.95 each. Let me tell you, I haven't seen specialty rolls this cheap. Of course, there are more expensive rolls on the menu. In terms of sushi, Sushi Hana is better and so is Oishi. I liked the decorations inside the restaurant. Nothing extravagant but they made the place look more oriental. Service was excellent. I would say if you are looking for the best sushi, Memories of Japan is not that place. Go to Sushi Hana for that. If you want good sushi that does not cost you an arm or a leg, then you come to the right place. 4 stars plus an extra star for affordability factor.
