We go to The Tropical when we are having a late dinner. They close at 10pm which is later than most Thai restaurants. The prices are a little higher and we usually get our own dish instead of sharing when we are there. I like the tom kha and their fried fish (around $25). The ka prow today was really salty. Having been scarred by The Tropical on the first visit, I've decided to come back to give this establishment a second chance, and I am so glad I did. The Tropical is an excellent Thai restaurant as long as you avoid the Spaghetti Kee Mao. It might even get a 5 stars if I could completely erase the memory of the initial visit. The Tropical has excellent pad thai. Pad Thai is a stir-fried rice noodle dish commonly served as street food in Thailand. It is typically made with rice noodles, shrimp, peanuts, scrambled eggs, and bean sprouts. I love the flavorful sauce in the pad thai at The Tropical. It truly is wonderful. Tom kha or Thai coconut soup is a spicy and sour soup of coconut milk, galangal, kaffir, lime leaves, lemongrass, Thai chili, mushrooms, chicken, fish sauce, and lime juice. At The Tropical, I particularly love the inclusion of tomatoes in the soup to give it a richer taste than the traditional soup. It tastes like a creamy version of hot and sour soup with different ingredients. It's good at The Tropical, just not my cup of tea. It's a shame that I can't get over the injury of the initial visit. Had a great weeknight dinner here. Staff were very friendly and prompt. The restaurant was nearly empty around 7pm but it was great to have a quiet place to eat and talk. The food was really good. Amazing!! I was so pleasantly surprised by, everything! The ambiance is perfect, everything is so clean and nice. The staff is super friendly, helpful and patient. Went in for a to go 30 min before close and you'd think we were the first and most favored guests of the day. I can't wait to go back! Oh!! The best part! The food!!!!!! I give this place a 3 as an overall. This is my favorite place for Thai food. We were at this restaurant about a month ago. Moving from California is hard to find good restaurant food. The only thing was my husband notice we were being judged how tip was given due to his perception. I gave the waiter/waitress more than 18% tips. My daughter and I walked out first and while my husband used the restroom and came out he noticed the waitress picked up our tab and said something to the owner/manager but looks like the manager told her to "shhh". After reading all the rave 5 star reviews, our expectations were very high. I was disappointed with my L3 Kaprao lunch, which was tasteless and the portion was so small, I could barely see it on my plate. I ordered it because it contains basil, but it was pretty bland. Also, I chose beef. Chicken, tofu, or shrimp would have given the dish volume and flavor. The beef appeared to be the dried beef commonly used in Asian restaurants. It was thinly sliced and lacked flavor. It was sliced very thin and lacked flavor. The L3 was mostly bell pepper and thinly sliced beef. I would have left hungry if Dan had not been generous and shared his meal with me. We both asked for medium heat, but mine had no heat and Dan's was beyond medium. We wondered if someone in the kitchen accidentally put all the heat in one dish. In my opinion, the L3 with beef would rate 1 or 2 stars. I gave it 4 because Dan's dish was good and because sometimes bad things happen in good restaurants. Dan ordered L8, Nam Prik -Pao Fried Rice. This dish was on par with what we were expecting. It had ample portions and was full of flavor. He ordered it with tofu.I was surprised at how good the tofu was. It was braised with sauce which gave it a delicious flavor and delightful texture . This is an unusual dish with unexpected ingredients such as thinly sliced apple and thinly sliced omelette. We shared this dish and we were both full. We will go back. It's a good restaurant, but be advised that just because some or most dishes are outstanding doesn't mean everything on the menu is good.
