Yokozuna is by far my favorite place to get sushi in Tulsa. I've gotten something different almost every time I've been and have yet to get anything awful. The prices are reasonable for sushi, and awesome if you go to happy hour from 4-6 every day! Select rolls are half price, including the Hot Mess which is my favorite roll I've ever had. Tempura shrimp and spicy kani on top...yum! Also good is the Flaming Volcano! I enjoyed the Route 66 roll, wasn't a huge fan of the Golden Driller. It's got quite a bit of cream cheese, so if you don't like that I would steer clear. The only negatives are that there is often a wait on busy nights, so call ahead if you're on a schedule. The waitstaff is always friendly, the hostesses...not so much. All in all, this is one of my favorite Tulsa restaurants! Don't miss out! read more

My search for good sushi has taken to many great - and a few not so great - sushi bars all over this great land of ours. And, while Yokozuna may not be one of the great ones, it certainly is one of the solid ones! The sushi is quite good! Very fresh fish, good rice texture (not too dense, not to lose), a few interesting rolls, and very nice space in which to enjoy it. I heard mixed reviews before coming to Yokozuna, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's not an authentic sushi place by all means, but it's still a fun place to eat. I steered clear from the sushi, but my boyfriend did enjoy the rolls that he got. I ended up choosing the pork belly ramen with fried quail egg. Not the best ramen I've ever had, but it wasn't bad either. The broth was slightly bland and the pork had a lot of fat on it. I should temper this review with the idea that this IS Tulsa and not California, but I won't. Why should I let them off the hook just based on geography? First, I asked the server f What beer is not on the menu and he suggested Palm special ale, he called it a light ale (wrong), or some fruity something or other - pass. I chose the Palm (i like Amber ales). That took almost 10 minutes. Why? I ordered something called inexplicably, the New York roll and a spicy salmon hand roll. Not spicy, mushy salmon. The New York roll, boring. The avocado was almost as crunchy as the cucumber. Server asked how I was doing. Ok, I'm fine. I didn't bother to interrupt my meal to describe the less than adequate sushi. You know what, I think I did give them the benefit of an extra star because it is Tulsa after all... Won't be back, will not recommend. Edit: Martina, the manager, came over after I was finished. I had made a couple of comments to the server about the status of the food and I guess he decided she needed to know about it:. That's a good thing. We stopped at Yokozuna for lunch, because it was greatly recommended to us by a friend. Unfortunately, it did not match the level of food or service that our friend praised it with. We ordered the Flaming Volcano, Pick and Roll, and the eel roll. After a long 30 minutes wait, they finally brought out our food. All three came with meager portions. By far, the Flaming Volcano was the best out of the three. Nevertheless, the best of mediocre food is still mediocre, no matter which way you look at it. We left greatly disappointed and with a $43 bill. So if you are looking for expensive sub-par food, and the feeling of hunger even after eating, this is the place for you. Great atmosphere. Seriously. Random note: The restrooms weren't too hard to find themselves, but I did get confused by the stall doors! It really just looked like a wall but there were two handles on it. The lock was interesting too, but at least it works! :) Just thought I'd throw that bit in there. I wanted to have hot green tea, but was given three flavors of "green tea" which made me think I wouldn't like whatever I picked. So I played it safe and just had a Dr. Pepper. For dinner itself, I ended up just getting the Philly Roll as I wasn't wanting to be adventurous with my sushi. The problem was that I found the rice to be rather...slimy or gooey, so I didn't care for it. The fish also seemed off somehow and, by the luck of the draw, I found something that felt like bone in one of my pieces! I decided to be a little more adventurous and ordered green tea mochi as I've never had it before and I love green tea ice cream. The mochi was quite good, tasted exactly like the ice cream, but definitely different. There was a dough-ness to it, which was expected. Overall, I was pleased with dessert. The waitress gave us all fortune cookies with the receipts and I'm glad I opened mine! I received a free shot of sake! It ended up coming out to the table cold, but it ended up being fine. I've only had sake once before, and I didn't care for it then, but this stuff was actually good! I wish I had remembered to ask the waitress which one it was, but I forgot to. I'll have to search for it now! Oh, and by the way, if you have to park in a lot, just pay the $5. It's worth it. I was dumb and didn't understand how to do it so I didn't pay upfront and ended up receiving a fine. read more

Well being a Californian who would ever think about eating sushi in the Midwest? But when I asked a couple sitting next to me (at a different restaurant) what restaurants they recommend, they suggested Yokozuma once they learned I loved sushi. Of course I gave them the look of disbelief but they assured me I wouldn't be disappointed and I wasn't. Downtown Tulsa is currently being renovated and is becoming a great spot for dining and evening entertainment. Yokozuna is contemporary in design and was busy the night I ate there, which is always a good sign. I ate at the bar since I was alone on business travel. They had a nice selection of sake, and no not the yucky cheap hot sake. I asked for a cold dry sake and the server's suggestion was excellent. They served it in a wine glass which threw me off at first. The best way to test a sushi place is to order sashimi (you can't cover non fresh fish with sauces) and mine was fresh with lots of flavor. I ordered a few other items, which I can't remember what they were, but they were also very good. The orders were a bit heavy on the rice side and the rolls were a bit smaller than what we get at home, but that's understandable since deliveries are probably not numerous. read more

How to ruin a lovely and tasty dinner: have a hostess choose 6:30 pm, right during the dinner rush, as the prime time to stand on a chair, in the main walkway, and SPRAY PAINT a chalkboard in the quite-full dining area, mere feet away from customers eating their food. We happened to be the closest, about 4 feet away. And she not only did this once, but TWICE. The second time another customer got up and told her to stop immediately. The smell of the paint permeated the entire dining room and was literally sickening, not to mention ruining the dining experience and food taste. It was not our server's fault so adjusting the tip would have been wrong. She stopped but seemed quite oblivious to what she had done. I did not hear any apology, but perhaps I missed it. She did not apologize to me when I commented as we left. I don't know if other customers complained to the management. We didn't. But frankly the entire dining room should have been refunded for their meal. It was truly awful. We've always enjoyed Yokozuna in the past, but I tend to think we might be exploring other sushi options in the future. It only takes one bad employee to affect an entire business. Today I went there for the first time. I was impressed. The food was nicely rolled and presentable. We ordered the rising sun and the blue dome for sushi. They rolls came out prompt and delicious. We also ordered the pork belly ramen which was so yummy. The Pork was so tender it almost fell apart. Yummy!! The waitresses and manager were very nice and informative. Coconut Ice cream was surprisingly excellent until it melted and all you had was Coconut in your mouth. Kind of odd.... Green tee with a tea bag. The waitress was very pleasant and the service and atmosphere were nice. My favorite part of the entire meal was my fortune cookie (yes, you read that right). It was the wife-unit's birthday and while we were out touring Tulsa architecture, figured we would get some sushi. Neat looking place that was recommended by some locals, so we had our hopes up that it could deliver some good food, but we came away completely unimpressed. First thing that jumped out is that a surprising number of their specialty rolls are cooked. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but it struck us as strange. We placed an order for a spicy tuna and a "Golden driller" and anxiously waited. While it came out surprisingly fast, the spicy tuna lacked in both taste and visual appeal. Regarding the visual, we're not talking about toppings or presentation - we're talking the color of the fish and how the roll was put together. There was also a distinct lack of "spicy" in the spicy tuna. Unfortunately the Golden driller, despite having both jalapeno's and spicy mayo, was somehow even less spicy. read more

I go for the spicy mayo. Everyone has their favorite sushi places in Tulsa. I've tried a bunch of places. By no means all of them, but most of them in Tulsa. Yokozuna has the best spicy mayo out of all of them by far. It has just the right amount of chili powder added or something. It definitely stands out for me. The rolls themselves are very innovative and delicious. It is among some of the freshest I've tasted. Some days it's better than others. I like getting a spicy tuna hand roll and then splitting one of the larger rolls with someone. The Roll -n- Gift is my favorite. I haven't been disappointed by any of the other dishes either. The Pork Belly Ramen is great. The General Tso's chicken is excellent. The strip is very nice. But the sushi is the star at Yokozuna. read more

We had 14 people together for dinner. Our reservations were for 6:15 but the previous large party (who had been told about our reservation) stayed on and on so we weren't seated until 7:45. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place while visiting Tulsa, we stayed downtown and were looking for dinner. Since my boyfriend and I both love sushi, we thought we'd give it a try. We walked in on a Saturday night, the place was busy but we were sat right away. i ordered a Key Lime Daiquiri, which was disappointing, it was very small and not icy, but more like a melting slush. My boyfriend had water. We ordered 4 rolls, 2 simple rolls, 2 more complicated rolls, and miso soup to start. The service was okay, a bit on the slow side, but they were busy, so I'll give them that. The miso soup was awesome,it was both hot and loaded with flavor! Our rolls came out in an acceptable amount of time, but we found them small and not satisfying. Our rolls were all supposed to be cold rolls, but we found them on the warm side. I'm one who likes my cold sushi COLD. Our bill with tip came close to 70.00, a little overpriced for just okay sushi and one cocktail. I hope to return to Tulsa one day and try some other sushi joints, still looking for one who compares with my hometown sushi favorites in California. If your looking for ok sushi and you're good with paying too much, Yokozuna is for you, but if you are looking for the real deal and a reasonable value, I suggest moving on. read more

I was sad to see Tsunami Sushi go, but this is more than adequate as a replacement. There's a sushi happy hour weekdays 3-6 PM, and Friday-Saturday 10-midnight. I love the drinks here. The bartender recommended a ginger-pomegranate martini, which pairs very well with sushi. If you're out with some friends, try the rum punch. Served in an enormous glass that resembles a fishbowl, you'll need 2-3 people to conquer this one. When I'm by myself or with a couple of friends, I fill up on drinks, appetizers, and sushi. I've been on a couple of dates at this restaurant, and each time I found the experience quite enjoyable. The service has always been great, and I've never ordered anything I didn't like. After you're done eating, head to Dwelling Spaces next door to browse quirky, locally made gifts and jewelry, and grab some espresso from Joe Bot's. read more

I was just in Tulsa for a weekend with my husband, and we ate here TWICE during that time, once for supper and once for brunch with family. The food is still wonderful, the service friendly and professional, the atmosphere friendly and fun. For the evening, I had a rainbow roll and the chocolate cake. I also tried the "white samurai" cocktail, which was delicious! For brunch, I went with the lemony dilly roll, a salmon and cream-cheese and asparagus roll with dill and a lemon aioli that was perfectly fresh and tasty. My cousins had the eggs Benedict and were pleased as well. My husband ordered the grilled salmon both times and loved it. My cousin and I even "won" sake shots in our fortune cookies! I have been to Yokozuna a few times now and have had several different items on the menu. So far there has not been one thing I didn't like. My favorite right now is the flaming volcano sushi roll. This thing comes to your table on fire. It's a great little show and the flavors are outstanding. My wife had the blackened tuna burger and it wasn't quit what we thought it would be, it's very reminiscent of a salmon patty. It was good, the only thing I would like to see added to it would be more sauce. It had a little bit but the patty was dry. The service at the bar and at our table was great and their drink selection fits their menu. If your looking for a great place to eat in downtown Tulsa I would highly recommend Yokozuna. I will say, it does take about an hour or little longer but we knew that going in and planned accordingly. I also don't mind a place that takes their time to send out great food. read more

All of these people ordering Ramen and complaining about it need to grow a pair and order something more adventurous. Order some sushi, they have an excellent selection and a good portion of it is decently priced (not cheap, but under $8 per roll). We showed up around lunch time (12:15) to find the place reasonably full. I ordered chicken pad Thai and split a Geisha roll. Sushi came out super quick, followed by fast service and our entres. The pad Thai was excellent and both of our lunch portions were gigantic. The total came out to around $12.50 a person + tip (lunch entre + 1/2 sushi roll). There aren't many options for Asian food when you're working in downtown Tulsa. While the food was a bit pricey, it's located a few blocks from work and had excellent service. read more

I usually go to the Yoko at 91st and memorial but I transferred jobs & decided to try the one downtown yesterday afternoon. I arrived around 340The host didn't say anything when I walked in. I "greeted" him. I was sat in the booth & no one spoke to me for about 10 minutes. The waitress came & took my drink order (a beer & a water) & my food order. 15 minuets later she explained that they didn't have the beer I wanted, another 20 minutes later I got my beer. I didn't get my food until 445 pm. I was there alone, and several tables who came in after me got their food before I did. It was not a pleasant experience. & I will not be returning. read more

While my daughter and I really enjoyed the "Hot Mess" sushi roll and the chocolate torte for dessert, the other rolls (Golden Driller and Dilly) were lackluster, the Ginger Spice cocktail was way too sweet, and the service was also pretty awful; only one soy sauce dish for the table, no concept of multi-tasking, and it took 15 minutes to get the check!
