We were in Tulsa for a work trip and stumbled upon Mr. Kim's and we're so happy we did. The restaurant has super chill vibes. The food was delicious--we had the marinated pork belly, boneless short rib and ribeye. Also added the Taiwanese clams and bone marrow milk toast which was phenomenal. To supplement, we ordered the kimchi fried rice and egg butter rice. Both were great sides. Hosea and Dylan were great and gave amazing service and recommendations. We made reservations for an anniversary dinner on a Friday night. It's pretty small inside and very dark. Our server was really nice, but she flew through the explanations of everything, so I really couldn't even tell you what meats I ate. But it was delicious. We did the $75 each omakase menu, but I don't think it was really worth it. The add ons are the best part like the kimchi fried rice. If I went back, which is not likely, I'd just order from the grill maybe 1 or 2 meat options. It's overpriced for what it is. We had reservations for 5 PM. We spoke with a server saying we were trying to find a place to park. I passed the restaurant but there was no place to park so I sought a right hand turn to drop off my out of town party. There was a baseball game and an event at the PAC and the surface lot was blocked. All the right turns were blocked for construction so I had to drive three miles to the east and three miles back. I finally found a parking place and was walking the two blocks to the restaurant when the manager called to say my reservation had been terminated. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Halloween with a hip vibe to it. We opted for the power hour because we weren't too hungry, but we heard great things about Mr. Kim's so we wanted to try. First came the side dishes: cucumber salad and red cabbage salad. Both had great flavor, but the cucumber salad was way too salty. The same was true of the house salad--too salty. Then came the meats - galbi and the pork were both delicious. Even though I don't use the lettuce wrap with the bean dip, I can tell the fermented bean was high quality. The broccolini was great too. The staff was very nice and the waitress even treated us with a ginger sorbet with honey that was quite a good palette cleanser! Although we had a pleasant time, it wasn't as good as the traditional KBBQ places I'm used to going. You come here for the vibe and I'm sure the omakase is great, but you'll be paying a premium for it. That said, you are limited to KBBQ choices in Tulsa, so I would recommend trying Mr. Kim's in this current market. read more

Can I just say that I have apparently been living under a rock and Mr. Kim's was not even on my radar. Thanks to my better half for taking me on a surprise date! Loved everything about the experience. Our server, Christian, was great and explained everything. He answered all of our questions (even about the chili crisp pickles). If this is your first time, I would definitely order one of the pre-fix meals. We did the smaller one and it was so much food. Our appetizers (chef's choice) were outstanding---one tuna, one oyster, and one scallop--three appetizers (bites) total. The meats were totally tender and delicious and I loved the truffle/egg dipping sauce. Our dessert was included in the meal and was a small dip of Rose Rock chocolate/peppermint ice cream (the creamiest ever) and a small yuzu bar (with gold leaf). Please note that dessert off the menu can be quite spectacular. Our table neighbors ordered it and it could cause some embarrassment for some. It was a huge stick of cotton candy (lit up) with the desserts on the bottom serving plate. P.S. We ordered the fried kimchi rice as a side. Also so good. I would order that again in a heart beat along with the pork bulgogi but all the meats were delicious. Also, this is a relaxing place to be. Posh and delicious, what an awesome spot. The staff is really friendly, the black walnut old fashioned is fantastic, the food selection superb. Love the decor, and enjoyed the whole meal. Having spent a while in Tulsa, I understand why this gets such good reviews: the asian food scene is very weak overall. That said, if you are from out of town, and have had KBBQ in a major city, your expectations will likely not be met. For us, this was a puzzling experience. Some aspects of our meal (we ordered the house omakase), were excellent, and others were perplexingly...wrong. Banchan - Banchan (complimentary side dishes) are a staple of KBBQ and traditional Korean dining in general. Many go so far as to judge an entire restaurant by the banchan alone. By that metric, Mr. Kim's would not be a good restaurant. The brined micro-radish slices were a hard pass. The kimchi was poorly balanced. The potato salad did not have a good texture. The menu stated the wraps included shiso leaves, but there were none. The ssamjang, however, was spot on. No white rice. The amuse-bouches. The omakase itself was punctuated by a series of amuse-bouches. Each of them were excellent in their own way. They were, for us, the highlight of the experience. If the rest of the food had been half as good as these, we would have been quite pleased. The meat itself was good, but the portions were small (4oz) in comparison to other high end KBBQ places we have visited. Overall, good, but not great. Improving the banchan would go a long way. read more

Ahhh the fabulous Mr Kim's. definitely a treat and experience visiting this "fancy" sister restaurant to Yokozuna. It did not disappoint! We made reservations three weeks prior and glad we did. The experience was all around, unique, positive, and flavorful! Everything from entering the restaurants to leaving the restaurant was fantastic. This location used to be that cool local shop with T-shirts and earrings and such, and I think it changed storefronts a bit, so it's nice to see this place done up like it is at Mr. Kim's. Drove to Tulsa to try Mr. Kim's. Another yelper actually told me about this place, and I was curious since I'm Korean. We came Sunday morning for "Dim Sunday's" which is something new they started offering. Dim sum is from 10-2pm every Sunday, and is walk-in only. We got here around 12:30, and it was not busy at all. I think it was just us and another table. Anyways, we were seated promptly and ordered the kimchi Bloody Mary which came out fast and was delicious! High recommend if you love bloody Mary's. For food my guy ordered the pork soup dumplings and pork dumplings. He loved the soup dumplings and didn't care for the regular pork potstickers. I don't eat pork so, I can't comment. I ordered the eggs & foie, shrimp har gow, house dim sum which was kimchi dumplings when we went (this item I'm assuming changes weekly), and egg drop. The eggs & foie was yummy, but I wished it was just kimchi flavored without the curry, shrimp har gow tasted like a shrimp shu mai. I have no idea what the difference is since, I'm Korean and not Chinese. The egg soup was delicious, and my absolute favorite was the house dim sum which was kimchi and it was so yummy! I hope they make this a permanent item in their dim sum menu. Overall, the service was super friendly, and this was the best dim sum I've had in all of Oklahoma. It is part of McNellie's Restaurant Group, which has eleven restaurant concepts in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Little Rock. Mr. Kim's is named after McNellie's Head of Culinary Operations. Benjamin Kim was also a 2023 James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Chef Southwest. The restaurant is a nice blend of modern design with Asian accents. I loved the dark vibe with the conversation-worthy photographs along the wall. Mr. Kim's features a Power Hour prix fixe menu every Tuesday between 4 and 6pm. The meal included the following: Mr. Kim's Fried Chicken For the Grill: Galbi (Beef Short Ribs), Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Broccolini Banchan: Potato Salad, Pickled Cucumber, Kimchi Steamed Rice, Ssamjang (Fermented Red Bean Paste), Lettuce Pineapple Whip from Rose Rock Microcreamery Lost Coz (frozen beverage made from Tito's, Soon Hari Citron Soju, Triple Sec, Cranberry, Key Lime, Hibiscus Syrup). The fried chicken was tasty, with its bold gochujang sauce with just enough crispiness. The banchan seemed a little limited in quantity and flavor. The pickled cucumber needed a little more pickling and the potato salad needed more seasoning. The kimchi was solid but not memorable. The pork bulgogi was well-marinated and the gochujang sauce was prominent. The broccolini was also well seasoned. Unfortunately, I did not taste the marinade on the short ribs. I appreciated having the option of lettuce wraps versus rice. The ssamjang was a tasty condiment. While refreshing, the flavors of the Lost Coz seemed muddled and I wanted more vodka included. Wow is all I can say, this kind of quality and flavor was not expected at a random spot in Tulsa!! I have been to quite a few Korean BBQ places in LA and Orange County...so I consider myself pretty well versed in KBBQ. Mr Kims is a phenomenal restaurant that takes KBBQ and elevates it into downtown esque vibes but leaves an authentic flavor profile. I went with the Galbi Bone In, Pork Belly, Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Prime Brisket and Kimchi Fried Rice. Galbi was the star of the show. A bit sweeter but a nicely cut Short Rib that was quite tender and flavorful hit the grill well. The grills here have a good temp and they give you a block of wagyu fat to coat the grill so it doesn't stick. Some of the best flavored Galbi I've had! Pork Bulgogi - Phenomenal flavor. Great slice level. Brisket - pretty standard for brisket, flavor was good. Pork Belly - Good marinated flavor and piece grilled well. Kimchi Fried Rice - Holy cow this was insanely good. Mr. Kim's is definitely an experience. It's a smaller restaurant so I recommend a reservation in advance to ensure you're able to get a table. The atmosphere is trendy but not well lit. If you have depth perception issues or trouble seeing in the dark, I don't recommend this restaurant, at least not at night. We had a 7:00 reservation for a table of 6. We were promptly greeted by our server but, as the night went on, the server became harder to track down for assistance. Other than that, the server was informative and helped prepare us for our first time experiencing Korean BBQ. The food portions are about 4 ounces per serving. Our table began with an appetizer of the dumplings (5 in the serving), then ordered a bowl of Kimchi fried rice and sour cream udon noodles. The noodles could probably be their own dish for someone who doesn't want to partake in the BBQ but the serving size of the rice was enough for those in the table to have repeat servings. We ordered brisket, boneless ribs, pork bulgogi, and eggplant as well. The ribs and pork were very flavorful! Eggplant seemed a little past its point of ripeness but not enough to significantly alter the flavor. We were treated to a cotton candy and sorbet dessert to finish off. The lemon sorbet is a very strong flavor resembling lemongrass more than citrusy like a lemon. It received mixed reviews from the table. Overall, it was enjoyable. While it's a smaller, more intimate restaurant, it doesn't really have many options for those who may not want to spend a lot of money so it's not encouraged for those who are hoping for a food experience on a budget. read more

Friday night reservations at 730. Seated on time, and ended up dining for two hours with my favorite. Mr. Kim's is a subtle entrance that doesn't scream here I am. Inside is moody and dark, a bit loud at times, and well appointed for the smaller sized place. Tables are placed at a good distance to not feel like you are on top of eachother, still a struggle to talk across the table at times due to the noise level. Our waiter, Christian, was very accommodating for us new comers and explained all of the food, drinks and experiences we would be going through. He shared tips and tricks to get us through the night. We chose to really engulf ourselves in the food, so between my hubs and I we got The House and The Baller which are chef selections for appetizers, meats, seafood, wagyu and deserts. With this we felt we would know what we would love to get the next time. 3 appetizers for The House and 4 for The Baller (which had the steak tartare - which was a main driver for me to go there in the first place). We shared the 4th app so we could both enjoy it. For all that was presented, the Tuna & Foie along side the Tartare were our favorites. The main meal had delicious House ssamjang & banchan (which means small side dishes to serve with the meat). And The House presented 5 2oz pieces of meat, The Baller presented 8 1oz pieces that included a slice of cod of the fish selection and two pieces of wagyu (one local sourced and one A5). Again my hubs and I shared the wagyu for tasting and he skipped the cod due to allergy. Between cooking all of the others slices of meat and the wagyu, Christian, our waiter, changed the grill out and then cooked them for us to our liking. The finish of the wagyu was superb. Rich, buttery, delicate but so flavorful. All of the food was amazing, and worth the experience of getting a full immersion of what can be offered there. We will return, just to now know what we will hone in on to order specific to our tastes. I'm a Mr. Kim's fan for sure. A nice change to just having a steak with typical sides. Simply incredible - and more innovative than your typical KBBQ joint because creative takes on standard fare you would find at a normal/standard KBBQ place abound. Take for example their crudo appetizer, which was exceptional. They side dishes or bonchon are also excellent. You can also choose combos of meat that give you just the right amount without feeling overly stuffed - I selected the wagyu steak (or maybe it was filet mignon), shrimp and larger mushrooms. They also gave me a complimentary dessert which was flavored like pumpkin spice which knocked my socks off. A definite must-visit in Tulsa. Hope they expand to OKC!!! read more
